Death Road is built for replay value. Everything is randomized: locations, events, survivor appearances and personalities. There's a different story every time you play, set in a world that doesn't take itself too seriously.
Death Features:
- Up to 500 zombies can hunt you down at a time. Fight them, try to squirm past, or run.
- Use the character creator to put yourself, friends, and family in the game. Have them show up at random to get eaten!
- Find special and rare events, weapons, and characters with strange abilities.
- Make tough choices in Interactive Fiction events. Get different options and results based on the traits of your party members.
- Teach a dog how to drive a car.
- Throw chairs. Get your characters strong enough to throw large sofas.
- Most family friendly zombie apocalypse game on the market! Any gore explosion is in a cute style. We censor the word d*ngus once.
- Tell people to "Cool it."
- 4 player local same screen co-op where you control up to 4 characters!

i've played this game for 6 years. probably never getting sick of it
Great dialogue, puns/jokes, and stereotypes. Simple enough game play and enough variety to keep trying new runs.
My only peeves having played this on switch and pc for hundreds of hours is, weapon stats aren't shown.
You will learn with time what weapons are like but it would be nice for newer players to understand the differences of weapon stats. That and a better description of stats would be nice for new comers.
Death Road to Canada is like a cozy road trip with friends: chaotic, unpredictable, and often hilarious. It’s got that charm where every run feels like an improv session, and you’re just along for the ride, smashing zombies and making absurd decisions. The pixel art style? Simple but sweet. The humor? Solid, like a cup of tea with just the right amount of sugar.
But then again... it’s also like that one friend who’s fun but doesn’t quite plan ahead. The randomness can be a bit much at times—like, why does my strongest character get wrecked by tripping over a twig? Some mechanics could use a little more depth, and while the replayability is strong, the novelty starts to wear off after a few too many runs.
Don’t get me wrong—it’s a good time. Perfect for zoning out and embracing the chaos. But could it have been more balanced or a touch more refined? Yeah, probably. Still, for what it is, Death Road to Canada is a quirky, fun way to spend a few hours. Just don’t expect enlightenment—this road is all about the detours.
a fun lil ol game!
FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN the comedy of this game is so up my ally I've had a lot of fun trying to get to Canada and dying over and over again lmfao I hope more people play this game
Worked for 30 minutes, then completely stopped. wouldn't even launch unless i played without achievements. tried everything i could find in the discussion tab to try and fix it with no results. I don't want to waste my time looking through 300 programs like steam suggested to see if something was preventing me from playing.
Very fun
masters and harde i love it
Crazy chaotic arcade action. Fun stuff, play it with friends.
I really like how challenging this game is. Despite how long I've played, I still encounter new events. I also really love how the game is getting updated still with new content in each update.
This game is just so stupidly fun. It has so much replay value. I'm pretty big into gaming and this is in my top 10 list... I would highly recommend it!
I have 20 hours on switch. It's a fun zombie apocalypse survival game with great humor and enough difficulty that I somehow never beat a run. Some day.
very good arcade styled game. would recommend if you got the spare money, even if you dont have spare money, you should still buy the game.
Very simple yet replayable game. I love the character customization and funny quips and convos throughout the journey. I've made it to Canada exactly twice but every journey I failed was equally as fun as the successful ones.
It is a really fun game but extremely hard I would like to see some DLC
So the gameplay itself it fun, the mechanics are interesting. There's not much in terms of plotline, but there's surprising depth in all the little hidden features or easter eggs to come across. Fairly decent replay-ability
Worth giving it a shot IMHO.
very fun, addictive rogue-like. I remember playing this when I was younger and being very angry about the level of difficulty, didn't give the game a real chance. Now that I'm older and more familiar with video games, I find it to be a lot of fun, difficulty is perfect. Perfect game for self imposed challenge runs. The flavor text is the quintessence of the sort of humor prevalent on the internet during 2013-2017. 'Thanks Obama'. Some might find it charmingly ironic and nostalgic, others might find it grating and cheesy (pun intended).
The gameplay is fast paced and engaging, killing zombies is very satisfying, guns and chainsaws feel so good to use. Cutting down hoards of zombies quickly becomes your M.O for most interactions, though you always wanna be moving, else you get completely overwhelmed. The game rewards you for taking risks, but these risks can also very easily be the death of your run if you don't play your cards right. The perk system is fun to tinker with, and making unique characters adds another level of flavor to the game.
The only thing I don't like about the game is that the music can get a bit annoying after a while when played on a loop over and over, so I just muted the music and played my own over it.
"He eats the gun and proceeds to eat everyone elses weapons"
"Everyone is confused"
"I was very hungry"
A great couch co-op game, I love that you can make custom characters. I feel like after a few runs you run out of content (the unlockables are some special characters and additional traits)
The only thing i hate about this game is how easy it is.
What do you mean i have 155 hours?
Oh.
fun game, but oh my god do i suck at this game
I put all my friends in the game and they constantly get killed in horrific ways.
10/10
Fun game shame I’m too bad to ever make it to Canada.
Hey , they mentioned the fictional country of Canada , Thats were Terrance and Philip takes place
This is a very amazing game with great replay ability long and lasting game play. It can be a casual game or a grind game. the best part and my Favourite part is every game and person you meet is different so it dosent get to repetitive. 9/10
I love this one. Every adventure feels fresh with all the different characters and occurances, I never get bored of it. Highly recommend if you love Oregon Trail type stories and zombies :)
I really want to like this game, but the random RNG bs that can take an amazing run to a literal dead run in 1 or 2 turns is just unreal. This game conceptually is really fun, but in practice it just feels like an annoying slog.
A game full of stupidly joyful stereotypes
Half RNG based Oregon Trail (with a zombie apocalypse setting), half side-scrolling hack-n-slash zombie survival game.
Insanely underrated and addicting, doesn't take itself too seriously and has the perfect blend of combat and rpg. The small bits of dialogue is always entertaining and silly (and pretty much never goes on too long), while also giving each and every customizable character so much personality and charm. Each run gets me so invested in the crew, and I find myself comparing it to an interactive TV show. Somewhat heavy on the resource management, but the inventory aspect of the game gives it a ton of depth and a relatively high skill ceiling. DRTC bleeds with love and passion at every turn, and offers a fantastic, replayable experience every time you revisit--both solo and multiplayer.
9.6/10
(pls add some extra loyalty to the nurturing trait)
living the apocalyptic dream
b+
Fantastic Game, excellent soundtrack and visuals to go alongside the cartoony horrors. Wish they'd update the phone version to the most recent pc patch though.
This is game is just so fun, especially with friends. My only wish is that it had online multiplayer, but oh well. Can't recommend enough.
the game is like 30x harder when i play with my friend
A game I haven't opened since 2018 because it was hard I think? I don't remember, but I also had fun with it, so maybe give it a go. Maybe I should give it a go again...
It's a lot of fun but remote play is buggy and doesn't work.
This game is almost as replayable as The Binding of Isaac, and I have a ton of hours into that game. Really fun to make a few characters and go for a quick run for an hour or so. There are tons of different unlockable traits and game modes too, adding to the replayability. It's really hard to actually make it to Canada until you get used to the game's mechanics, but with every run you learn a little more and figure out the best ways to move forward. If you like roguelites/roguelikes, then you'll most likely get a lot out of this game.
Still holds up as a great title. Fun blend of roguelite elements and adventure game feeling with arcadey beat-em-up gameplay. Much potential for variation between each run, for both in-game events and user play-style. Packed with character and evident passion from the dev team, supported by the continued updates as of 2024. Incredible replayability; nearly effortless to pick up and play again whenever. Cheap as you like during Steam sales. Grabbit.
the peaceful road to the united states
they put in my favorite character ever dont sh*t your pants guy 10/10
My first brainrot experience as a youngster, would recommend
Got betrayed by a dog with a shotgun
Honestly one the best games I have ever played. Have owned on cosole and now PC endlessly fun. Pick up and play with a buddy or your significant other especially if on sale.
This is what good gaming is.
I have no complaints, only praise.
There's so much RNG to the actual gameplay and also just for funny.
You only get stronger as your run count increases which is great.
There is always a sense of accomplishment and progress on each run, no matter how short (maybe unless REALLY short).
I've had Santa Claus and Jason (the murderer with the mask) on my team. Santa was nice, Jason.. well people started disappearing and he was getting huge moral boosts every time that happened... Sus.
It goes on sale frequently for like 4$, def worth it at a low price.
Death Road to Canada is an excellent blend of pixel art charm and intense, zombie action. The gritty, pixelated visuals perfectly match the game's atmosphere, creating a chaotic yet satisfying experience in every zombie encounter. The pixelated gore adds a unique touch—there's a strangely rewarding feeling in stepping on organs and watching them squish underfoot.
The combat, while straightforward, offers a surprising level of depth. The game demands careful dodging, stamina conservation, and the right weapon for each situation. This blend of skill and simplicity ensures that each encounter is engaging. The game's unique blend of "Oregon Trail" elements with zombies feels fresh, and the variety of weapons, locations, and survivors guarantees that each run is a new experience.
The music and sound design are also standouts for me. The game nails its audio, from the fantastic title screen music to the tracks that play during gameplay. The zombie growls and crunches of your weapons really immerse you in the experience, and hearing that buzzing noise when losing a survivor is ingrained into my brain at this point and it will be for you as well.
The couch co-op feature adds a whole layer of fun. It's one of those games that's even more enjoyable with friends, especially when you start creating in-game versions of yourself, family members, or even wild, random characters like Rick Harrison from Pawn Stars. Losing someone to a horde of zombies feels personal, adding an emotional weight to each decision you make.
What I loved most was the balance between lighthearted humor and moments of genuine tension. The game doesn't take itself seriously, with its funny dialogue and random situations, but the siege events are seriously no joke. Running low on supplies, weapons, or survivors during these moments feels terrifying, making them some of the most memorable parts of the game for me.
The randomness of each playthrough is punishing but equally rewarding. You never know if your run to Canada is doomed, only to have an unexpected event save you—like a Jason Voorhees lookalike named "Mason" showing up to turn the tide in your favor with his overpowered machete. That unpredictability keeps the game fresh and addicting.
Overall, Death Road to Canada is a unique and endlessly replayable experience. It's worth every penny with challenging gameplay, fun co-op, and hilarious yet tense scenarios. If you're a fan of zombies, pixel art, and roguelike mechanics mixed with Oregon Trail, this one's hard to pass up.
The best man! The moment I saw the Gnome and heard the Punch Quest sound effects I bought it instantly. This game is great! Awesome game developers! Thanks for this :)
I died almost immdeiatly but my buddy John and a witch made it to the border
10/10 would die on the road to canada again
Really great game! you have to manage your resources and make good decisions, and the game is challenging but not impossible
Unlock lots of fun features and game modes!
It's a very silly game and will keep you entertained all the way through the run :)
A quirky game that is super fun, replayability is strong and love the amount of customisation you are offered.
The controls of this game are awful! You cannot even configure it in the settings. Unless they fix everything with the controls (joysticks), it is not worth the spending the money!!
A very fun roguelike that keeps things fresh and interesting!
