Death Road is built for replay value. Everything is randomized: locations, events, survivor appearances and personalities. There's a different story every time you play, set in a world that doesn't take itself too seriously.
Death Features:
- Up to 500 zombies can hunt you down at a time. Fight them, try to squirm past, or run.
- Use the character creator to put yourself, friends, and family in the game. Have them show up at random to get eaten!
- Find special and rare events, weapons, and characters with strange abilities.
- Make tough choices in Interactive Fiction events. Get different options and results based on the traits of your party members.
- Teach a dog how to drive a car.
- Throw chairs. Get your characters strong enough to throw large sofas.
- Most family friendly zombie apocalypse game on the market! Any gore explosion is in a cute style. We censor the word d*ngus once.
- Tell people to "Cool it."
- 4 player local same screen co-op where you control up to 4 characters!

Very good indie game i just happened to come across and i am enjoy playing this games for hours, there are so many possibilites and choices to make and such unique characters. Its fun to play and very engaging game, Highly recommend to play.
This is an extremely fun and addicting game with plenty of replayability! It’s challenging, but there’s enough variety in the gameplay, locations, weapons, and characters to keep things fresh. The humor is a nice touch too—there are some genuinely funny moments throughout.
It’s the perfect game if you’ve got a few hours to spare and want something quick, fun, and a little challenging. The art style is also really appealing and adds to the overall charm.
Definitely worth trying—I’d highly recommend it!
one of my favorite games of all time and i only got it last month. everything is randomized so its new everytime u play which makes it even more fun
The Good:
Overflowing with wit, humor, and attention to detail
Gameplay is incredibly fun and innovative
The Bad:
HIDEOUS controls
UNREASONABLE and GRUELING unlock system
Rare events and characters are FAR too rare, you will likely never see half the game
Success depends entirely on how early you get a chainsaw
Cosmetics locked behind challenges in a single player game
The best game that's too hard for me to play.
An excellent snack sized game, the writing, sound track, and presentation along with being able to make your own characters (or add your favorite tv characters) face the pixel zombie apocalypse is truly an excellent treat. The only bad thing is I currently do not have the energy to play it.
If you have the desire for this humor style with excellent music that's moderately to incredibly difficult with rng that likes to remind you how good of a chance you'd have in a real zombie apocalypse, you'd be doing yourself a disservice not to check this out. It's great, and if you will want to refund it you'll know within 30 mins.
I mostly played this on my Switch but just can't stay away! I continue to come back and take another trip to Canada many times a year. It's so fun to just pick up a run and see what happens. So many updates and unlocks as the team just still showers this with so much love. Thank you for making such a fun Oregon Trail inspired zombie romp. Great humor, tons to discover, I just love it.
Super fun, you never know what's it gonna be next, colorful, it's always a pleasure to try to get to Canada. Fun rare characters, ability to make your own playable characters.
I'd adore some game mode where instead of fleeing and traveling, you try to build a base. But that would be too much to ask to an already addictive game. 130% recommend. Don't lose your car, recruit the wiz.
Can't press start to play the game, it is stuck in main menu, I can go to option and whatever, but I can't actually play the game. It's all because of the new update, devs haven't fixed that.
It's an okay game - fun for a couple runs with a friend. I'd say pick it up if its on sale for $4 or less - $15 full price is too steep.
A fun but incredibly brutal take on Oregon Trail. One minute you are sitting on food, gas, ammo, and enough survivors to make any location into a massacre for zombies. Next, bandits took all your supplies, a survivor left and stole half your food, car broke down so you're on foot, and fucking Jane wont shut the hell up and bringing down everyone's morale. Its a solid time waster but its incredibly unfair. Just like the Oregon Trail.
So about 2ish years ago, my gaming laptop's graphics card finally fizzled out, and I didn't play any pc games for about 6 months. This was one of the few games i discovered on my phone that kept me sane for those months; And, clearly, this game is so good i bought it again.
This is a bona fide arcade zombie game.
For a funny game with such a cool retro "arcadey" style, BANGING music, and references n jokes galore, if you are caught late at night, and you're not prepared, you WILL have 50 or more (no exaggeration) zombies just PILING through the door. They even "grab" you within a certain proximity, and you HAVE to either hit them away, or RUN away, because if they grab you for those 3 seconds, you will lose some health. If you happen to get caught in the worst-case scenario, your body WILL be swarmed, and eaten alive down to the bones, being reduced to a distraction for the rest of your crazy and... "eccentric" crew to slip through to an exit or the car.
You collect gas, food, medical supplies, and weapons, and do everything you can in a random neighborhood, full of rubble blocking the roads and some doorways, junk cars, and abandoned, zombie-filled buildings. Every weapon you grab will either be a jab, a swing, a BIG swing (i.e a sledge hammer, knocking multiple zombies down at once), or a *bang bang*, with different damage stats, stamina-usage, and durability. But you're not just limited to your golf clubs and shotguns, you can even pick up furniture, and throw it right at the rotten faces of your opponents! You WILL be doing this, and anything else you can, to hold them off or thin down their numbers just enough to slip through that doorway, survive a siege, and just simply survive.
Every character you find has a series of stats and traits, including but not limited to: Mechanical (for fixing your car), shooting, Strength, even "loyalty" - aka, how likely they are to NOT leave you behind or betray you when it's opportune for them (when their morale stat is so low they can't take the stress anymore). Along this, they can have 2 traits, they could be a paranoid shooter who has bonus shooting stats, and is always suspicious of people and situations, allowing them to "read a person's" stats before you uncover their stats the HARD way. You could have someone that wants to join your crew, CLAIM to be a mechanic, but your paranoid character reads that they actually have NO mechanical skill WHATSOEVER! You could be an athletic "BERSERKER!!" where you start off with INSANE strength stats, but are cranky, mean to people (which could even get you killed!!!) and DIE in 1 hit! You could have an irritating martial artist, a charming pyromaniac, a sharpshooting gungineer, you can be a dog...
You can be a dog :)
No but actually, you can be a dog. It's amazing, they can only carry ONE thing, in their mouth, but they can still loot, and have the highest speed, meaning you can use them to ZIP past zombies, loot a room, and run back out.
I didn't even get into all the possible outcomes you encounter while on the road (or while on foot), and the different possible zombie-riddled locations you can choose based on what materials you need most. For a 15 buck (and currently 3 dollar) roguelike arcade game, it has SO many amazing things packed into this title.
The music will always keep you hooked, every zombie has a very detailed and uniquely-grotesque or funny face, and so many upgrades, traits, perks, and other game modes to keep yourself preoccupied with this title for many, many hours and more.
My only complaint taking this game from a 10 to a 9/10 is that there is no online multiplayer support, only couch co-op, meaning your only online option is to use some sort of Remote Play, which is either a huge hit or total miss depending on your internet, hardware, and other weird little factors.
But if you DO happen to have some friends coming over, I don't care their level of skill when it comes to gaming, EVERYONE is going to have the time of their lives making their way to the grate maple gates of Canada, because I know I already have a blast playing on my own!
Generally a good game but its very short and it gets a bit repetitive. 6.5/10
This game will give you many, many hours of playtime.
and the fact that it supports windows, Mac and Linux is really good, because not many games support Mac and Linux. the game is also very light so almost any system can handle it.
in conclusion if you like Rouge likes, than I would recommend giving this game a try.
This game is very very fun. And infuriating. Hella trick moves by the games story but still cool. Get a dog and make sure he stays happy or else lol...
This game's humor is so good, I love how it's hard but so well made that whenever you beat it or die trying you can start a new run and everything is different, the characters, the circumstances, even the choices the player makes. I laughed when I died on my first run and it said "You Have died on the Death Road To Canada" and the only option you can click is a button that says "Dang It". My humor is weird.
This game is TOO SWOLE TO CONTROL, especially on Steam Deck. It's a modern day Oregon Trail meets action rogue-like with a ton of replay value and ongoing content updates. I can't say enough good things about this one. Creating a cast of your own custom characters makes the game interesting.
Great game with what feels like endless replayability. A lot of my time spent on this game is over parsec with some friends, still one of the best couch co-op experiences I've ever had
Strap in buddy. Next stop, Canada. Wait, are those zombies? RAMMING SPEED!
DRTC is really fun but more importantly its super unique, there really isnt anything like it that i have seen, so many (non-narrative) games focus on the worldbuilding but DRTC is more about telling a personal story that is different every time
Justin Trudeau officially welcomes Ryu, the pink Power Ranger, Elvis, and Rick Grimes into Canada after they team up with an army of beavers to protect the border. Truly one of the games of all time.
A very basic but fun game, especially with friends. I wish some of the more interesting events or locations appeared but otherwise I am quite satisfied with the purchase.
Your properties are taken away due to unreasonable bad luck and because you don't have enough properties you lose even more properties vicious cycle simulator
I hate the toilet genie. I really want to like this game. If they had better options for changing the gameplay difficulty I would love it. I keep coming back to this game thinking "Why did I stop playing this?" then after one or two runs I remember. The gameplay is too heavily RNG with random events that completely crash your run overly abundant. It feels like the game is designed by a person who finds deliberately irritating others to be funny. The persistent upgrades don't really seem to make enough of a difference in game play. Even with stats maxxed out it is still not enough to deal with the "Screw you in particular" events that can negate any strategy or skill. Then there is the frequency of which I have had team mates get stuck in a room with an open door, where if I leave I abandon them, but often trying to convince the AI to actually follow the group often leads to getting killed. Additionally, there is no straight forward way to alter the gameplay so that it might be more enjoyable for someone who doesn't find experiencing "Oops, RNG says game over." constantly an enjoyable gaming experience.
Good and sweet pixel-art game. There to much things to tell. Just play it
if you like zombies, death, roads, and canada, this is the game for you
Absolutely stunning zombie game (played it a ton on my switch before buying it here). My favorite by a long shot, the only thing i REALLY want for this game is online co-op functionality. I can put up with couch co-op remote play but it becomes a real bummer when trying to coordinate everything going on and i would much prefer if i can send a friend of mine to a place without a tether connecting us. Makes it very hard when you have to constantly run back and forth through doors to make sure they make it in. Other than this the game is very fun and worth the generous 15$ if you can afford to give it a shot. Canada awaits!
Very underrated, has a lot to do and is overall really good.
i've played this game for 6 years. probably never getting sick of it
Great dialogue, puns/jokes, and stereotypes. Simple enough game play and enough variety to keep trying new runs.
My only peeves having played this on switch and pc for hundreds of hours is, weapon stats aren't shown.
You will learn with time what weapons are like but it would be nice for newer players to understand the differences of weapon stats. That and a better description of stats would be nice for new comers.
Death Road to Canada is like a cozy road trip with friends: chaotic, unpredictable, and often hilarious. It’s got that charm where every run feels like an improv session, and you’re just along for the ride, smashing zombies and making absurd decisions. The pixel art style? Simple but sweet. The humor? Solid, like a cup of tea with just the right amount of sugar.
But then again... it’s also like that one friend who’s fun but doesn’t quite plan ahead. The randomness can be a bit much at times—like, why does my strongest character get wrecked by tripping over a twig? Some mechanics could use a little more depth, and while the replayability is strong, the novelty starts to wear off after a few too many runs.
Don’t get me wrong—it’s a good time. Perfect for zoning out and embracing the chaos. But could it have been more balanced or a touch more refined? Yeah, probably. Still, for what it is, Death Road to Canada is a quirky, fun way to spend a few hours. Just don’t expect enlightenment—this road is all about the detours.
a fun lil ol game!
FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN the comedy of this game is so up my ally I've had a lot of fun trying to get to Canada and dying over and over again lmfao I hope more people play this game
Worked for 30 minutes, then completely stopped. wouldn't even launch unless i played without achievements. tried everything i could find in the discussion tab to try and fix it with no results. I don't want to waste my time looking through 300 programs like steam suggested to see if something was preventing me from playing.
Very fun
masters and harde i love it
Crazy chaotic arcade action. Fun stuff, play it with friends.
I really like how challenging this game is. Despite how long I've played, I still encounter new events. I also really love how the game is getting updated still with new content in each update.
This game is just so stupidly fun. It has so much replay value. I'm pretty big into gaming and this is in my top 10 list... I would highly recommend it!
I have 20 hours on switch. It's a fun zombie apocalypse survival game with great humor and enough difficulty that I somehow never beat a run. Some day.
very good arcade styled game. would recommend if you got the spare money, even if you dont have spare money, you should still buy the game.
Very simple yet replayable game. I love the character customization and funny quips and convos throughout the journey. I've made it to Canada exactly twice but every journey I failed was equally as fun as the successful ones.
It is a really fun game but extremely hard I would like to see some DLC
So the gameplay itself it fun, the mechanics are interesting. There's not much in terms of plotline, but there's surprising depth in all the little hidden features or easter eggs to come across. Fairly decent replay-ability
Worth giving it a shot IMHO.
very fun, addictive rogue-like. I remember playing this when I was younger and being very angry about the level of difficulty, didn't give the game a real chance. Now that I'm older and more familiar with video games, I find it to be a lot of fun, difficulty is perfect. Perfect game for self imposed challenge runs. The flavor text is the quintessence of the sort of humor prevalent on the internet during 2013-2017. 'Thanks Obama'. Some might find it charmingly ironic and nostalgic, others might find it grating and cheesy (pun intended).
The gameplay is fast paced and engaging, killing zombies is very satisfying, guns and chainsaws feel so good to use. Cutting down hoards of zombies quickly becomes your M.O for most interactions, though you always wanna be moving, else you get completely overwhelmed. The game rewards you for taking risks, but these risks can also very easily be the death of your run if you don't play your cards right. The perk system is fun to tinker with, and making unique characters adds another level of flavor to the game.
The only thing I don't like about the game is that the music can get a bit annoying after a while when played on a loop over and over, so I just muted the music and played my own over it.
"He eats the gun and proceeds to eat everyone elses weapons"
"Everyone is confused"
"I was very hungry"
A great couch co-op game, I love that you can make custom characters. I feel like after a few runs you run out of content (the unlockables are some special characters and additional traits)
The only thing i hate about this game is how easy it is.
What do you mean i have 155 hours?
Oh.
fun game, but oh my god do i suck at this game
I put all my friends in the game and they constantly get killed in horrific ways.
10/10
Fun game shame I’m too bad to ever make it to Canada.
