About the Game
Chroma Squad is a tactical RPG about five stunt actors who decide to quit their jobs and start their own Power Rangers-inspired TV show! Cast actors, purchase equipment and upgrades for your studio, craft weapons and giant Mechas out of cardboard and duct tape. A fun as hell turn based game themed after tokusatsu media. A bit preachy in a small handful of sections, but overall I have no complaints, and the workshop content can help extend the playtime.
This is one of those games that requires a "maybe" recommend imo. It's really good and fun! Good music, fun writing and story, enjoyable characters and a lot of tasty sentai cheese for the fans.
But for the love of god don't play on the higher difficulties. This is definitely a "more enemies means more difficulty, right?" type of game. The final mission in particular feels very much like you're just not allowed to win if you're playing on higher difficulties, and frankly idk that I can recommend playing the last mission. Maybe look up a LP of it or something because it is a complete nightmare of cruel design decisions. I managed to get to the third fight of the last mission only to die because the boss did multiple aoes in a row that I couldn't prevent because there was just too many adds to deal with while also trying to juggle damaging the boss and preventing his strongest attacks.
So like, yeah you should play it. But play on lower difficulties if you don't want to tear your hair out. Really fun squad strategy game for people who like stuff like XCOM (though a fair bit simpler)
Vibrant retro pixel fun, wrapped up in great tactical package. The story was fun and lighthearted, thoroughly entertaining and provides plenty of strategic options.
Fun game! Can be a slog to replay the first levels for all the achievements, but all of the endings are really fun!

I felt like a child playing this game! I thought it would be just a turn-based RPG inspired by Power Rangers, but everything is so good! The story, the puns, the characters—you can tell that every pixel and word has a bit of love in this game. 10/10, I’ll probably play it again, changing the characters and upgrades to make it feel like a whole new experience <3
Mighty Morphing srpg.
Tbh in terms of gameplay wise its not the best, its simplsitic and the levels are gimmicky and the story is silly and not always in a good way, but dam if it doesnt do a good job catching the power rangers feel. In terms of charm this is probably the most charming game I have ever played other than Pokemon and why I have so many gameplay hours. Also the music ranges from good to great, Threat to Us All and Dance to The Beating is some of the best map music i've heard in an srpg.
Also a user Benderboyboy pirated the game because Saban wouldn't let the game be avalible in his region but wanted someone to post his review so hear you go

What an absolute love letter to the Tokusatsu genre. All the little easter eggs and nods to the all the great series that came before was beautiful. I played it late because my region was one of those caught up in Saban's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ lawsuit and I didn't even know this existed. That man is such a prick.
But with the power imagination (through imaginative use of Steam keys) and friendship (fellow fans who told me about this game), I was able to play it. And I loved every second of it. It's such an achievement for a small indie studio to accomplish.
The pixel art style is perfect and childlike to capture the imagination. The absurdity of the lore is wonderfully comedic. And you can really feel the love for the shows and fans the creators had while making this game. The gameplay itself was also deep enough to have layers, while not drowning us in UI like most RPGs. And the music is incredibly chill to listen to.
By the way, the creators recently showcased a beta of Chroma Squad 2 on their social medias, so go and let them know we want one. And together, we too can show Dr. Saba- I mean Dr. Soap the power of indie creativity!

it's a fresh take on the turn-based, tactics rpg genre. feels slower with the mechanics (you're not getting new equipment for purchase after every battle), but the actual combat holds up. a couple of things require trial and error to learn. i like it.
Pretty nice game, sound track is goated, funky quirky story to boot, only bad thing I can say is that this game gets kinda repetitive but besides that a good choice for a first time strategy rpg to play!
Good on the Deck, just had difficulty with changing names with the digital keyboard.
Very good tactical rpg, interesting upgrades and customization, but I'm not a big fan of the themes so I can't really talk about story and dialogues, I ended up skipping most of it. Not the game's fault.
It can get repetitive but it's not very long so I was okay with it. Different endings that depend on early stuff so some replayability if you're up for it. All in all, a solid game for the price I paid ($2), and even better if you like Sentai stuff I guess.

Great game for anyone that is a fan of Power Rangers or loves turn-based tactics and off the wall humor.
There is a slow roll out of mechanics and specialized gear behind the seasons, so season 2 is where the game really pics up.
Fond memories of playing this game. Even at regular price it was fantastic. If you aren't into campy parody, probably not for you. If you enjoy tactical rpg's, grew up watching "sentai" shows, and think Adam West was the most amusing Batman. This is the game for you. Came to see if it was up on the new Turn Based sell and was surprised to see it was, and that it's overwhelmingly positive.. so here's my review to help keep it that way.
This game is very good! And i enjoyed my time with it. Very funny, and the premise is great.
However; replay value is meh. I think it does have alternate paths with different storylines, but I never really bothered to play more than once due to the combats sluggish pacing and lack of variety in objectives and enemies in later segments. Mech battles were also boring as hell.
but still; I enjoyed my time with it. and is 100% worth at least 1 playthrough. Give it a go!
