About the Game

A few hundred condemned criminals were being shipped to the Auriga system on board the prison hulk “Success”. While this was presented as a chance to earn back their place in society by working hard for the common good, they understood that in fact they would be slave labour, sent to colonize an unexplored planet. All they knew about Auriga Prime was what the probes told them: it had water, temperate zones, plant life, and plenty of metals in the crust.

In fact, the planet Auriga once hosted a major settlement of the galaxy-travelling ancestors known as the Endless. In addition, the planet was still orbited by a functioning (and well cloaked) defensive system, which sprang eagerly to life upon the arrival of the Success. Within a few minutes, the ship was nothing but a few large chunks of metal falling toward the planet.

Every set of holding cells also functioned as an escape pod, so the ship let itself disintegrate and the surviving prisoners fell bruised but (temporarily) alive and (momentarily) safe to the planet below. Safe, that is, until they realized that they had crashed through some sort of facility of the Endless, down to a sub-basement so deep and ancient it might as well be called a dungeon…

this shit was rated mixed for no reason so i'm trying to bump it up to positive
This game is the kind of pain you say fk yes to.
A very odd game, a mix of like 10 different genres that nonetheless manages to gel together. The spritework and lightning is legit impressive, especially given the game's age. Amplitude's best game by far.
Game is a gem. Highly recommended.
Easy = hard
Too easy = normal difficulty
It's a cool idea, but the implementation is... what's the best way to describe this.. "lacking"?
Atmosphere is all weird and spooky. The story/universe is inviting. The premise of the gameplay is kinda interesting: you get a squad, you level it up, you go through the levels kinda dungeon crawling & tower defensing... and then it all falls apart at this particular spot.
The UI is clunky. The module selection for more info is nonexistant. The levelups/powerups absolutely lack in impact and importance - so it all starts to feel like a lackluster numbers crunching game. On top of that the boss monsters are pointless timewasters. You can attack, go out of the room, regen, finish it. What's the point?
Verdict: meeeeeeehhhh........
Positive feedback is not available in your region!
Simply one of my favorite games of all time. DoTE is a fun little tower defense that can be played solo or with a group (up to four players.) There is quite a few characters to unlock with their own unique play styles and abilities. The difficulty levels are a bit of satire “easy” is quite damn hard, it’s extremely challenging to finish the dungeon. Where as “too easy” is well, just that after you get the hang of things, still a fairly good challenge starting out and later on with the different launch pods you unlock after successful playthroughs. FIDS resources are the same as other endless games. If you enjoy resource management and tower defense you should love this.
I've tried to get into this twice. I just don't like the mechanics at all and I don't know what I was thinking when I bought this 9 years ago. Hope it was cheap.
I am not good at this game. Its one of my favorite games.
OK game. Would be awesome without the following two issues. First, the game occasionally CTDs between floors and deletes the autosave (the only allowed save) in the process - so game over. Secondly, large monster waves are a big blob of moving pixels. It is almost impossible to tell which monsters and how many are attacking your heroes. Looks ugly too. I do not get why people like pixel art in this game. Pixel art was not a choice but a necessity back in the day. The best old pixel art (e.g. Prince of Persia, Lemmings) also looked way better than this hot mess.
Fun little maze tower defense
I came back to this game after not playing for many years because of fond memories of the unique mechanics and the strategy. I cant think of another game quite like this.
I really enjoyed the problem solving, and scenario planning aspect of the game. It is a ton of fun to play, once you figure it out, and this is where this game falls down, in guiding new players.
I would highly recommend new players to not shun character guides and other online resources to get going. This is a ten year old game and I think they purposefully designed the game around "discovery" mechanics (especially around character skill progression and item effects) so you learn by doing, Which I think would be fine if you unlocked something that documented the information for you so if you step away for a few weeks you don't forget. I find myself wasting resources to "find out" what something does only to have forgotten even later in the play through.
Personally I think if this game underwent a UX/UI cleanup, slightly better tutorialization of some of the mechanics and better information persistance you could re-release this game today and it would attract a huge following.
A rather boring and not varied game.
Poor control, the same thing every time, and most things are down to luck.
Only when you start a dungeon can you progress with a meager amount of resources and you don't keep anything after the game ends.
The only thing you unlock are characters and the capsule that lets you start with whatever bonuses there are.
No development beyond this and everything from scratch and that's how it is every time.
The bad thing is the guide to what to do. Every time you play it you have to do everything again just to go to another part and it's a miserable explanation of what to do.
And finally, dumps you without further explanation.
It's too boring, there are better games than this one.
Good
Great game
This one is a good turn based game by Amplitude ! Very nice dungeon crawler uniqueness!
It's a good rogue-like style dungeon game, great to play with friends.
Addictive, good looking, funny, rogue type game that makes you utilize brain and try it in different play modes.
9/10
Cons - sometimes it is too dependent on random elements.
underrated gem; the sequel doesn't manage to capture its spirit (as of 2025)
Great with friends, great artstyle, good gameplay. 8/10.
**Title:** "Dungeon of the ENDLESS™: A Rogue-Like Strategy Labyrinth Where You’ll Either Win Big or End Up Screaming"
**Review:**
*Dungeon of the ENDLESS™* is like someone took all your favorite strategy elements, locked them in a room, and then decided to throw a bunch of monsters, research projects, and weird decisions into the mix. It’s a rogue-like tower defense strategy game where everything seems fine… until it isn’t, and you’re scrambling to figure out what went wrong while your resources burn and your team slowly gets mauled by space monsters. But you’ll love it.
The premise? You’re a crew of survivors trapped in a mysterious dungeon-like spaceship, and your job is to protect your precious energy core (called the “Crystal”) while attempting to get to the exit. Seems simple enough, right? Wrong. The dungeon is full of nasty creatures, random events, and an ever-present timer pushing you forward. And you’ll need to balance exploration, defense, and resource management, which is *way* harder than it sounds.
The gameplay is a frantic balancing act of exploring new rooms, placing turrets, upgrading your heroes, and trying to survive waves of enemies, all while managing limited resources and constantly watching your Crystal. The real fun comes when you think you’ve got things under control—only for the dungeon to throw a curveball at you in the form of a surprise monster wave or a rogue trader selling you a *questionable* upgrade. It’s like trying to build a house of cards while riding a rollercoaster… blindfolded.
The variety of characters you can play as is awesome, each with unique abilities that are critical in navigating the dungeon. From gun-wielding soldiers to psychic healers, it’s about using the right mix of heroes to complement your strategy. The dungeon layouts are randomly generated, so no two playthroughs are alike, keeping things fresh and often terrifying.
The art style has this charming, retro sci-fi feel, and the music nails the tension in every moment. It’s a game that slowly builds up this eerie sense of dread, which is only heightened when you realize you’ve left a critical door unguarded and your entire team is about to be devoured by a hoard of space goblins.
Verdict: *Dungeon of the ENDLESS™* is the perfect game for anyone who loves strategy, challenge, and a little bit of chaos. It’ll make you scream, it’ll make you laugh, and you’ll keep coming back for more because, for every disaster, there’s a thrilling victory waiting just around the corner. 9/10—would manage resources and get overrun by monsters again.
**Disclaimer:** This review was written by an AI who has never been trapped in a dungeon, but I’d like to think I’d be pretty good at resource management if I were. Any complaints about monster waves should be directed to the nearest (but very competent) hero.
Mostly play on switch but man this game is great. There really is nothing else like it, with the mix of tower defense, and dungeon crawling. The atmosphere is excellent, the gameplay is very challenging but like all roguelikes, once you get the hang of it and meet it on it's terms it is very rewarding.
Well worth the price of admission, highly recommend.
Do I recommend it? Well, yes but actually no.
It's a really hard one. Do I recommend it? Not really. Do I think it deserves a downvote? Definitely NOT.
The game is beautiful, has interesting mechanics, original take on resource management and some puns. It is generally a good game that I enjoyed for a first 2-3 hours.
You progress through the dungeon. But each level is more of the same. It becomes painfully boring with only thing changing being some tougher monsters. I finished one run and do not intend to play again.
So if you are curious like me and like to try out new games: go ahead.
If you look for a game that you want to spend significant amount of time with: avoid.
PS: there are some mildly infuriating design choices and lack of some crucial QoL features. The map (or tactical overview how they call it) is not really clear - you can't see in which rooms there are big modules slots or active debuffs.
There is no option to see what a debuff does (how it affects modules/people) and how long it will last.
And lastly the worst one: you can operate a module to buff it. It takes one turn for the character to "settle in" (it has to stay in the room). But if you have the operating character selected you can so easily misclick to send it somewhere else and lose the buff for upcoming turns. It's so annoying!!!
Man, did they even playtest this game? The balance is terrible, it is slow, and the interface is clunky.
Such a good game. I have all the Endless games made by Amplitude Studios. You will love the visuals, the music, the game-play. Everything is high quality and worth. All the DLC's are well priced and the studio has regularly updated the games. 5 stars for me.
Game doesn't launch and lags out your pc.
Had fun with it for awhile. It's an interesting take on dungeon crawler and tower defense. Got it on sale for $3 so the time spent was well worth it. Procedural generation keeps the replay value high despite the simple mechanics. Game on!
A game that is almost disgustingly easy, and IMO quite fun, once you figure out what you're doing - but, unfortunately, makes that "figure it out" part harder than it has to be. And yes, you are heavily reliant on Modules (turrets)! This is not a game where the heroes can easily do everything on their own!
For example, knowing the average number of rooms per floor (approximately 12+2*floor number, more exact numbers available via Google search or xml files) is hugely important for cost vs benefit of putting down a new Major Module. However, it doesn't list that information in-game. Similarly, party loadout is important; you usually want some folks to Operate modules for extra income whilst defending, plus someone to open doors, and optionally someone to run with the Core. If you have 4 fighters, you're kind of screwed.
Actually doing the core runs with swarms of monsters becomes quite easy once you realize that you can just remove power from rooms not along the path to the Exit, and prioritize that path so no monsters spawn in your way.
Really, though, I'm not surprised that people are complaining when the devs put the difficulties as a tongue in cheek "easy" and "too easy." Still, it's really not that bad, and I'd definitely recommend the game for 5$.
its good, hard to master, but after you pick up how the tower defense mechanics
I like it. It feels a bit incomplete/unpolished to some extent.
Walking all the way back to get tech is annoying. If you have power in the room, and enemies are cleared, you should be able to just click it.
When you go to play a new game, you should have options to save settings from previous run so you don't have to go in and out of menu.
Item equipping/unequipping feels kinda off.
You should also be able to fast forward the game when there are no enemies.
And there isn't a ton of content like other games like this usually have. I'm surprised there isn't a modding community for this. Maybe there is to be fair, I just haven't checked enough.
But if you like tactics roguelikes, it's worth it on sale. Or not, $12 isn't too bad
Not really a "endless" dungeon, 11 easy levels, you will probably finish it in under an hour.
Its OK to play, not very fun or anything to write home about but it is challenging, especially if you want to get your research up.
At the end of the day it's a very basic interface and very basic roguelike dungeon crawler.
Dungeon of the ENDLESS is easy to learn and difficult to master. This makes for a fun playthrough alone, but is even better with friends (the armory is a much larger challenge with 2-3 players), and involves a communication and strategizing with your teammates.
One of my favorite games. Unique little pseudo-tower defense game, lots of replayability.
9/10
Great top down strategy and resource management game!
Highly recommended.
Best with friends!
This is a highly replayable little roguelike dungeon crawler set in the Endless universe. It's quite fun. It's also great in short bursts. I forgot to write a review for this back in 2016.
Even at less than 4 dollars, I have refunded this game because it was just not fun.
The UI and controls are both terrible and do very little to make what is going on clear. Other than that, the game doesn't know if it wants to be a tower defence base building game or a dungeon crawler and it ends up being very poor at both.
I enjoy the vibes and art direction a lot, but man this is just not fun. It feels you're marching, where each stride takes an hour but once your foot hits the pavement its chaos for <30 seconds
Love me a bit of the old dunge
Man, I love this game
Wildly unfair with a terrible user interface. If you are a masochist this game is for you. Just know that the burst damage of the mobs is preposterous. Your tank will be one-shot before floor 5 in 95 percent of your runs. I guess you're supposed to rely on modules????? Which removes 80 percent of what makes the game cool. Unbalanced, frustrating, too difficult by design to be enjoyable. Real shame, so much potential was squandered with this one.
Very addictive
Would be good. needs local coop.
If your looking for a hard and punishing roguelike that makes you think more than react, then this is definitely the game for you. Combining tower defense into the the roguelike elements to have a sort of balance of unique gameplay styles and micro management of resources.
very fun and stuff!
Too complex even on "Too easy" level.
Dungeon of the ENDLESS™ is a gambling addiction gateway game
Fun game, peak Amplitude #2.
Glad to hear the studio has gone indie again. Hopefully they'll draw inspiration from the DotE and EL period.
Excellent blend of tower defense, resource management, and exploration in a package that can run on a toaster. Also has 4-player online coop, ftw!
Not to be confused with "ENDLESS™ Dungeon" which was made by the same devs--it's also an outstanding game, but tacks toward twin stick shooter mixed with TD instead.
One of the best dungeon style games you will ever have the pleasure of playing. All the characters are quite memorable and have a special place in my heart. The OST is a complete banger and it still holds up to present standards. The UI is absolutely clean cut and puts most modern 'Triple A' and 'Quadruple A' games to shame. There are times I look at my niche circle of games and boy does this game put a smile in my face. As for the squeal of this game... It drives me insane how the devs didn't even put the original characters or the original art style or the original music genre or the original mechanics that makes this game so great. Shame AMPLITUDE Studios Shame. Stop being progressive and start using the formulas that work. You are sitting on a goldmine IP and you are digging everything but the gold. This game still needs a proper adaptation because I have yet to see any game on the market that scratches the same itch as 'Dungeon of the Endless'.
