Risk of Rain 2 is a 3D action multiplayer rogue-lite that brings you back to the mysterious crash site of the Contact Light. No run will ever be the same with randomized stages, monsters, bosses, items, and more. Play solo or team up with friends online to fight your way through hordes of monsters and find a way to escape the planet.
About the Game
Risk of Rain is an action platformer with roguelike elements. With permanent death as a primary feature, players will have to play their best to get as far as possible. Fight on a mysterious planet with randomly spawning enemies and bosses, either alone or with 3 friends in online co-op. With over 100 items at your disposal, you will find the tools you need to find the teleporter back home. Discover a myriad of randomly chosen stages, from the desolate forest to the frozen tundra.The three main goals for our game are simple:
1. Design a game that is randomly generated every play-through, to keep replayability high and fresh.
2. Time = difficulty. The higher the in-game time gets, the harder the difficulty gets. Keeping a sense of urgency keeps the game exciting!
3. Be enjoyable, regardless of whether you win or lose. No more fussing with complex and non-intuitive gameplay patterns. Players should not blame the game for their loss!

Goated game
truly a gem, in terms of side scroller shooters, this was a masterpiece. the only flaw, and its a big one, is that the way the online multiplayer works.... sucks. what do i mean? well, ever have to open a port on your router and let a game through a firewall before? well, if you havent, youre gonna spend a few hours figuring it all out. still, this game doesnt have to be enjoyed in multiplayer, its good enough if that wasnt even a thing. just a little less good.

A must-play platformer game even after 11 years since the release
(the 0.5 is off due to the rapidly spawning monsters like dude let me breathe for a second :)
Good, but get ror: returns, its so much better
One of the best rogue-lites our generation will every see; this game has so much style and character, I fully believe that Risk of Rain: Returns is absolutely no replacement for this gem of a game. Featuring probably the single best soundtrack to ever be put into a video game, Risk of Rain is a must-have for any indie game fan

i tried to play with my friend and it's too complicated
the game is cool and kinda hard at the beginning, as an old game it has some problems but nothing that gonna messed up your gameplay, although if you are new at risk of rain and want one to start i think you should try the second one, not because its better just because its more receptive and it's easier to get by

It's a good solid 7/10. Great chunk of content to explore, really good soundtrack, lots of replayibility. However, I will say unless you don't have 15$ to spare, buy the games remake Risk of Rain Returns instead. This game has a ton of bugs and multiplayer is an absolute pain in the ass to set up. I'd recommend buying when it's on sale for 2$ or if you just can't buy the much more polished remake.

i was looking for cheap, replayable, single player games when i saw someone play this on a yt video. i was interested and bought the game, and its very fun. its also very chalenging and time consumeing.

I love becoming so powerful I crash the game by existing.
i really like the simplistic style, i actually prefer it to risk of rain returns. amazing game great replayability, and amazing lore. the soundtrack is great. the system of unlocking new characters, items, and lore as you play more and more keeps you coming back. despite the limited number of stages they never feel repetitive. the game does a great job of making you feel like a lone survivor, terrified and confused by the new world you are trapped in.

Still really fun. Only now in 2024 did I unlock all the characters for the first time and there are so many cool ideas there... but yeah this game is hard and everything is time-sensitive.
If you have too much anxiety dealing with timebased challenges, maybe just play it on easy difficulty i guess.
Also try playing it with a controller.
Directly from the indie golden years, the original got great replayability, not so steep learning curve (even with kinda stiff controls), special worldbuilding and athmosferic soundtrack; are we the baddies?. Solid 5/7, worth revisiting previous levels (+2 because it doesn't really rain).

second best game i ever played
very fun
After Hopoo Games recent closure, is a delight to dive into their old catalog and see how, even at their most amateurish. were able to create and develop such a fun and charming expirience. it is amazing that the same people that made this small, quirky, kinda ugly looking roguelike would later give us one of the the greatest games of all time.
Fly high, Hopoo Games. and i wish Paul and Duncan the best at VALVe.
I didnt have to buy it again to buy it
It's like eating a bowl of broken glass shards - but you get called bad and told to "git gud" when you say you're not really enjoying the experience and would rather try something else.
OST kicks ass though.
