It's not open world like advertised. It's very linear and there is a cut scene for everything. I mean EVERYTHING. Die? Cut scene. Bar fight? Cut scene. Some lady being sassy? Cut scene. Also it makes no sense for the guy to almost assassins creed climb up nearly everything while everyone else is a clueless idiot. The Nazis are almost comicbook and the stereotypes are rampant.

I have played this game 30 hours. And have barly played the man story.

Its fantastic to run around in a Noir movie Paris, assasinate soliders and blow things up.

Its like a GTA game but you have soldiers and warmashines to attack every where. + you can climb every building. A fantastic game i rekomend to everyone.

AAA Gaming have a LONG way to go apparantly XD this old game, with mechanics, graphics and story are just so much better!

Playing an Irish mercenary, in Paris, killing Nazis. What more could you ask for? Super underrated open world game with similar gameplay as something like GTA, but set in WWII era France. Fun and engaging gameplay and mechanics, with an intriguing enough story. I like that the game doesn't take itself too seriously. The art style is super neat, and I like the morale gimmick with the occupied sections going from black and white to over-saturated color when liberated. Also, awesome parkour elements, and tons of explosions. I totally suggest this hidden gem to anybody. It's definitely one of a kind.

Loved this game first time around and love it again now, sure if it was made today some things would be better but still a great game and better than many open world new games.

Word of advice, don't rush through the missions, enjoy the freeplay targets.

Regards spec, seen some comments about flickering from some people, I had no issues played beautifully.

At first I thought it was too cartoon like, but the more I played it the more I discovered how much fun it is. Lots of missions, collections and free style things to do. Killing Nazis, blowing stuff up and liberating Paris makes for a compelling story. It was worth the price,

A hidden gem, that`s what this game is indeed.
The game mechanics let you drive and collect cars, race cars, even tanks, use a big variety of firearms and explosives, do a lot of parkour on every building, go undercover as an enemy soldier and you can also go to watch strip club shows.
There are a tone of open world activities that that make you really feel like a saboteur.
The story by itself is a classical revenge and being the knight in the shining armor that liberates a WWII Paris ocuppied by you know who...

THIS is how you make a historically inaccurate game with vague communist propaganda included, for all you commissars we call "game devs" nowadays.

Unplayable, looks horrible, settings are minimal. Looks like it could have been a good game on old Tvs but not for our current age.

If you can get this on sale then this is an open-world game worth playing through.

Pros:
There are a lot of free play targets and doing most of them gives you the feeling of helping the liberation efforts through eliminating guard outposts, towers, etc. Doing these side activities can even help the missions be even easier since there will be less enemies over all.

Great sound effects, you really feel the impact of the explosions and gunfire. Great music as well if you're into music from the 50s.

Gunplay holds up well, its a third person shooter so that's not saying much but the shooting feels solid and there are a sizable amount of guns to choose from.

The story is serviceable. The main character does bring the life through cliche one liners and quips. I wish there were more character interactions and quests though.

Cons:
The game is pretty buggy, none of it was game breaking but there were times where enemies will glitch through the wall if they're following you.

The car physics are a bit strange that it often bumps into the road when approaching a slightly elevated route.

The free-running is also a bit janky, I was trying to climb a certain building for about an hour and the jump to get there does not seem to be intended at all. It felt like doing one of those mario speed running jumps just to get the free running to register the terrain as climbable.

The radar installations are a death trap, too many times I tried placing explosives only to get stuck on the rotating blades and die in the resulting explosion. Stay away from moving objects in general, physics in this game is more dangerous than the Nazis.

There's not really a lot to explore, the map is just basically Paris.

Note:
If you only play the missions, even including the side missions, you can probably finish this in less than ten hours. I was pretty surprised to see that I was already in the endgame.

Overall its a pretty good game, although I would say its not a game to grind out in one play session, its more of a game to come back to weekly and play a couple of hours each time.

shows its age in mission variety but no worse than any gta or assassins creed from 2010. Great to play over a holiday season, fun to blow up nazis and the voice acting is superb.

An Assassin's creed game takes place in Nazi-occupied Paris. It's not a bad game even though it was released 15 years ago. Give it a try!

i love the gameplay, the characters and the tiddies.

It's an absolute tragedy that this was pandemics last game. It's amazing, and open world games have been missing pandemics flavor of destruction for awhile. We never got anything like mercenaries or destroy all humans ever since. They were way ahead of the game but were constantly fighting hardware limitations. Imagine what they'd make today. It's enough to make a grown man cry...

I really love this game. Played this on EA but don`t work on EA no more. game is not playable. keyboard stops working under game play, and get kicked back to desktop every time. Get a fix on this.

The Saboteur from EA is a masterpiece.
There – I said it.

This game is set in the 1940s, during WWII.

The protagonist is a cynical Irish mechanic turned racecar driver. Through bad luck, he becomes entangled in the cloak-and-dagger part of the war and is recruited as a member (or loose cannon) of the French Resistance.

This is a sandbox-style game with an engaging storyline that ties everything together very nicely. An interesting note: the developers included a great number of easily recognizable French landmarks in the game, complete with postcards that can be picked up during gameplay.

The appearance of the game changes as the player progresses: areas dominated by the Nazis are shown in black and white, but as the French Resistance grows stronger in those areas, they turn to full color.

So, don't be discouraged by the initial couple of minutes of gameplay, because it does get better. As you progress through the game, more and more of the gameplay area will be shown in full color.

The one thing I miss in this game is a way to download the original soundtrack, because the vintage music is very well done and greatly helps with immersion into the world of our grandparents as they experienced it.

I highly recommend it.

Graphics are dated but the gameplay is fun. The main questline isn't very long but it has a decent story. I could easily see putting in 60+ hours when completing all the side missions and freeplay objectives. The freeplay objectives get pretty repetitive and since there aren't any achievements I did not bother completing them all. From what I've read there's like 1400 of those objectives to destroy.

Pandemic Studios made some of the greatest games in its time, from Star Wars Battlefront to my all time favorite, Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction. It's too bad they fell victim to EA's corporate greed, getting bought out and then gutted like many other great studios did.

The Saboteur was one Pandemic game I never got to play back in the day because it was rated M and I wasn't old enough to buy it myself; my parents wouldn't buy it because of the nudity...

Now that I'm well into adulthood I can play whatever I want lol, but I don't mess with consoles and especially won't bother with retro hardware because it just takes up so much space. I never thought I'd be able to play Sabeteur, thinking it was going to be one of those games that just got away.

But then one day I randomly boot up steam and BAM! The Sabeteur is on the Steam Store's front page!
I instantly bought it and I have been enjoying every second of it. Pandemic games are so underappreciated and this is some of their finest work.

If EA can revive an old game like this by randomly bringing it to steam, they can easily do it for others. EA is sitting on so many great games. I beg you EA! Give us steam junkies the Pandemic Mercenaries games! I'll pay full price!



Edit: It's also worth noting that this game works fantastically well on steam deck. Having games from my childhood that needed to be played with a big, heavy, overheated console, plugged into a big, fat, heavy, overheated television now playable and running super well on a handheld device is super flipping cool.

This TPS plays in Paris, its neighboring villages and in the countryside, also has some areas in Germany too, and this all set in the WWII era, which is quite a unique setting especially for an open world game. You play as a racing car driver and mechanic named Sean Devlin, and in the game with his friend named Jules gets caught up with a German colonel named Dierker, and later the German executes Sean’s friend which he don’t want to let it go, he wants to take his revenge on him with the French Resistance in Paris. The story surprisingly has its own twists and characters, I didn’t expect to be this interested in the whole thing, but it is done right. The game has its own charm with the dialogues, most of the time the characters act casually to each other, but the game does have it’s serious tone, which is pretty good. Gameplay wise is also really surprising as The Saboteur is a mix of games basically: you have the GTA like mission lines, you have a parkour system from Assassin’s Creed, gunplay from Freedom Fighters and the atmosphere from Mafia 1-2. The shop system, missions to liberate the districts on the map and doing certain actions to get perks is well made. Getting the currency for the shop is also cool, because you either take out German objects or locations, get collectibles or do the missions to get the currency. You can drive around the map, but you can also parkour, climb building as well. The game gives you the option to do stealth and take uniforms from the enemy, you have multiple ways of engagement. The atmosphere is very good, also the visuals for occupied territories is iconic in this game. Difficulty is alright, although if you want it to have a decent challenge, you need to get the highest difficulty.

One tip before you start playing the game: when you downloaded it, go to the installation folder and start the Launcher first, because in it you can set up the graphics properly and the resolution, which can be even full HD or higher. You can’t set up these settings in the game normally.

However, for me it was difficult to get started in the game at first. After you have done the prologue and you are in Act 1 you start to do your first real missions, in which if you don’t realize how to deal with the Germans or what are the best strategies to do in certain cases, you are going to have a hard time. The beginning is quite hard until you don’t learn the game’s mechanics and you might lose interest if you can’t get over them. Also, the stealth could be finicky as the Germans like to detect you through walls or foliage and some of them can be paranoid as well and they can notice you from 30 meters, because why not. In the game it’s quite inconsistent when the character wants to catch a ledge or a ladder. Sometimes I can walk through them and will catch them but other times the character just ignores it and falls down to its death. I don’t want to forget about the driving, which is quite bad. It’s not unplayable, but basically when you drive it feels like that gravity is 20 times stronger and the cars get sucked to the asphalt, also making them a little bit slidey in some cases, it just feels weird, but you can get used to it. Not even mentioning that some props like certain lamp posts or bushes are not destroyable in the world and it can make your vehicle stop completely, which is funny when I can take out massive gates or radio towers even with my car, but not those. Difficulty can be varied, I have played through the game on the highest difficulty and certain missions can be painful, but not impossible to beat. And occasionally the engine sound can just get off randomly, although it’s not that big of a deal since they are mostly annoying to listen to anyway.

Most issues I have against this game are not that serious, it’s really done right and it’s fun after you learn how to get used to it and if you get into the game’s atmosphere. I can definitely recommend this game to get, even for 10€.

As others have said recently, this game has held up very well! Playing on Steam Deck, and so far having just as much fun as I did originally.

I didn't have too many platinum trophies on PS, but the PS3 version of this is one of them, and enjoyed every bit of it. IMO pretty much everything here is done incredibly well - great writing and really fun gameplay. Sean is probably my favorite character in any game - the plot is very dark, but they still manage to make him often hilarious. Whole plot too is quite interesting, WW II France is the setting, interesting use of color, returning it to regions as you liberate them.

Gameplay style like GTA and Assassin's Creed in ways - mix of missions and causing chaos in the open world by sabotaging stuff. For the most part, the open world stuff is pretty easy and relaxing, but the missions can be a challenge even on the easiest setting.

Playing on Steam Deck, only issue is you can't use the game's option to exit, you'll have to open the Steam menu and close the game that way. Otherwise, runs great.

Light on story, heavy on things to blow up. Simple open world Nazi killin fun. Lots of ways to approach missions gives the game plenty of variety.

An absolute old masterpiece, used to play it on xbox360. It's totally worth the money and should be considered a remake/remaster of the game.

Really good game, a few minor bugs, but I loved the game play and story. The voice actors were exceptional.

The Saboteur does a good job showcasing how messed up things were during WW2, despite that it has a charming feel of the 1940's which I really love.
It's a lot like Mafia 2 which is a series I really like as well, though like Mafia 2 it suffers from a lot of technical problems, the render distance seems completely broken at times, the AI is more A than I, and because of the poor render distance it becomes rather unimmersive at times.
It has a 60fps lock which I couldn't get rid of, still a pretty smooth 60fps so it could be worse.

The game feels like a rather lazy console port and deserves some love either with a patch or remaster, it's a hidden gem for sure, for the price go and get it!

This is a very fun & addicting game to play since it has a World War 2 & Grand Theft Auto vibe when playing in beautiful Paris. Also loving how there some parts in the game that are black & white of places you need to take over vs giving it full colors when you obtain those area's. Great game of saving Paris from the evil Nazi's. 9/10

The Saboteur was a massively underrated game back on its release, glad to see it back in steam after decades away.

It's a great game with great mechanics. The black-and-white sequences shine alongside the explosions and the fun arcade driving.

It is nowhere near a GTA clone, it is much more like an Assassin's Creed in occupied France during WW2.

This is the last game from Pandemic Studios, a must have.

A game where you play as an Irishman who fights Nazis because they messed with his racecar. It's like Fast & Furious, but with berets and baguettes.

First, the world starts in black and white, like someone forgot to pay the collour bill. But don’t worry—blow up a Nazi tower or two, and BOOM: Technicolor! It’s like giving Paris a mood ring, except the mood is “explosions.

Still one of the best games out there, shame EA bought the company and sacked them all, and closed the company down, typical tricks of EA, its not their game it's a Pandemic studios game.

I've played this so many times now, could do it backwards lol.

Better story & gameplay than most newer games.

The story picks up its pace at the last third. Dare I say I screamed at that last color change of the final cut scene. As an early AC fan, I appreciate the open world and the climbing all over, albeit the collectibles are a little too much even for me.

I played this game a lot on my PC when i was younger. Still had the ISO laying about. In this version I had to set my CPU to single core restart my pc, download a third party fullscreen program aaand ... it still wouldnt run well. The biggest issue was the map that was weirdly stretched in a way, where u couldnt put a marker on the map which made it totally unusable. I couldnt set my native resolution and it crashed A LOT! It was rly bad and i just gave up.

Well now i bought it again and it does work! I have a RX6800 and a Ryzen 5600x. I downloaded the game. After starting, it prompted me if i wanted to open the video settings. I did and set it to 2560x1440 (my native resolution), everything on and highest settings, but with 60 fps, cause i read there can be problems otherwise. Closed it and started the game. I didnt do anything else! (except set nudity to on xD)

I have played now 80 minutes without any crashes, it runs in my native resolution and its lookin pretty good (for a old game), the cutscenes look also very good and are as far as i can tell in native resolution. The only problem i had was when closing the game. It froze and i couldnt do anything other than open the task manager and ending the task. It is what it is, but it is playable! Edit: Well, second time it didnt freeze. Save game was still there. :)) Runs perfectly!

The game takes place in 1942 Paris, when Germany invaded France in the "Blitzkrieg". Im a german myself and i absolutely love/d this game. The german voiceacting was also very good, but im playin it in english now and the Irish accent is freakin awesome! Im pretty sure, Germany had a censored version, because i never saw the two scientist torturing a man after losing Jules before, so theres prob gonna be new stuff in there too.

In this game u are "The Saboteur". U have to kill Nazis, destroy their tanks, propaganda speakers and whatnot to clean out Paris of the "Nazi scum". U can earn perks which upgrades ur character or earn new weapons by doing different stuff, u can collect ALL the different cars in ur garage (which is one of my favourites) ... Theres a lot of stuff to do and the map is actually pretty big! Its a old GTA.

Very importantly, since most people played it on XBOX and with a controller.
I always played this game with a mouse and keyboard. I dont think it will work great with a controller, but never tried and never will! I rly like the shooting in this game, popping the head of a Nazi with a quick shot of a semi automatic rifle or a good gun. Thats how i like to play this game! U obv have the old german MP40 submachine gun, sniper rifles and ... too.

I would recommend this game to almost everyone. It runs well, the story is crazy good, the gameplay is simple, but works and theres a lot more to it, than u would think at first. I could write a whole essay about this game, but im just gonna list the rest.

-1920-1950 music is just so easy going and relaxed, even tho the living was so harsh with multiple wars going on through that time. I love old music and this game is a big part of why i do! I can sing along to every single song in this game!
-I had so much fun collection cars. As soon as u collected them, u can spawn them in ur garage. Sport cars are obv the best ones, but i just like to try out everything! The Renoir GS is also one of my favourite for normal city driving (its freakin fast xD). Later u have to collect monstrous fancy old german cars, war machinery like tanks, ... There are a lot!
-After doing certain main missions, the sad dark and blood red Paris gets coloured and is way more inviting. I think this is a beautiful way of showing the player progress!
-The ending is very satisfying! Cant rly remember the after game, but i can remember the last mission! Its worth it!
-The jumping while running is rly fun xD It actually makes u faster.
-ITS NOT EVEN 5 BUCKS!

-I dont like the climbing. Back in the day it was fine. But spamming "Space" is pretty annoying xD Maybe theres a mod were u can just hold it.
-The radius u have to flee from is exactly like the whole map of my older version. Its stretched in a weird way and when i zoom all out, theres only a red circle on the bottom right. I have a widescreen (2560x1440) which is prob the cause of that. I dont rly mind it, but its a little sad! If u dont have a widescreen u shouldnt have the problem. And if u have trouble with getting away, just RUN! xD Dont drive.

A vaery classic game! its like gta and a mix of assassin creed game its a good classic open world game that, it also reminds me the game Mafia, its also a good game but the saboteur is a classic! i recommend to buy it, i only bought it for like 4dollars i never regret my desicion.. Quirky custom Engine with odd bugs does not distract from the unique open world theme of The Saboteur.

For a swan song from Pandemic Studios, it has interesting ideas - fun game play and some nice characters.
Although the majority of the characters are fairly bland, story is semi-alright. It needed to be worked on more.

From playing for a while, the gameplay is the main focus and everything else took a backseat.

For lovers of Open World games, grab for an interesting fun time.

The way it portrays areas suppressed by the Germans or enlightened by the Resistance is a really cool concept. I wish a sequel to game was created. It was a game franchise that deserved more attention than it received after it was released.

Pretty fun game, I have to admit. Even if the game is very old, the visual art, the presentation, the setting, makes this game unique.
One major drawback of this title is that, there is no steam cloud and I often lost my save file.
But, the core gameplay is fun and enjoyable.

Always loved this game. Good story, good gameplay and good everything honestly. Its like Grand Theft Auto, Assassin's Creed and Tomb Raider had a beautiful perfect baby :D 🕊️

Underrated gem of a game. I would recommend playing this if your a fan of the Just Cause series. Buggy as hell but still a peak game. Absolute cinema.

Game is alright. Funny Irish man that doesn't sound like he is under the influence of alcohol.
Love the black and white filter when under German influence but showcase colours when liberating some sectors of a fictional country known as France.

My biggest complaint is the broken video setup. Forced to play the game at 30 FPS, low graphics and 800x-600x screen resolution. Tried some solutions online but they didn't seem to help not one bit.

1 hour in this game and I have heard "NAZI BASTARDS" at least 5 times, and that's good enough for me.

Picked it up on sale for about $5. Absolutely worth every penny. You will have to check with the discussions, and guides to fiddle with the config. Basically keep it 1920x1080 at 60hz and it will run just fine. I fiddled around for 10 minutes and got it running just fine.

Great little 3rd person shooter if skulking around and killing lots of Nazis is your thing. There are better looking games out there but this one is just plain fun.

This game had so much potential to be something truly special. The concept, the story, the ideas are the perfect recipe for a video game set during WW2. Troubled development and low budget really limited what it could've been.

As it is, still a charming fun game. I really wish this could get a from the ground up remake, but at the hands of EA, it will never happen. Can you imagine what Rockstar or Hanger 13 could do with this ip?
