Master of the game design and more than a solid proof that you don't need gazillion dollar budget to make an awesome game. And it is awesome! :)
One of the best S.W.A.T games
Not enough variety, gets boring quickly.
This game is a bit difficult at times; it constantly has me revising plans, sorting through equipment, and trying for completion. It's good at having me think out solutions instead of straight brute forcing the game all the time, this could potentially be due to the nature of RTS games, but this is my first, do I don't really know.
Do you like the planning part of Rainbow Six games, but hate actually participating in the FPS part? This is the game for you.

At full price, I don't find Door Kickers to be all that outstanding. Yet you can buy it for a couple of bucks when it's on a deep sale and get literally hundreds of missions, community-made maps, and even your own level editor, all packaged into a top-down strategy SWAT game where you can either pre-plan every move your SWAT team makes or painstakingly move every individual member by yourself. And while I don't think there is enough gameplay diversity or depth to keep me invested for more than about half a dozen / a dozen hours, I'd still recommend spending a couple of bucks and trying it out if it looks like a game you might enjoy.
5/10
WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CANT CLEAR A ROOM WITH 4 ARMED ROBBERS TERRRORISTS ALONE?!
Tactical errors were made a plenty.
Good 7/10
10/10 would kick doors again
Amazing and entertaining game. For this game, you have to go to the roster and switch to assault, instead of using the default pointman. The assault type can use MP5 guns which take down bad guys quicker. Using assault the game becomes easier and more fun, as you can take down the bad guys better. And I don't plan at one go, as the position of the enemies will change. I clear the areas step by step, pausing in between, and watching the action.
Bought to play on mac and then they remove mac ability WTF. Installed on mac and played fine, reinstalled and not launching. The store said it worked on mac but now doesnt. WASTE!
Door Kickers is probably a great primer/demo for its sequel.
Notes
I am not a professional tactician and do not play strategy games.
Pros
- It's a phenomenal idea that does what it needs to
- Lots of customization and micro-management possible
- Lots of missions and ability to progress
- Side-challenges reward persistence and experimentation
Cons
- Units will think that they cant have their weapon drawn when they can. This results in a lot of situations where you think you should be able to have your weapon out but you can't (resulting in failure)
- It is incredibly hard to get units to swing/pie a doorway without manually controlling them while they swing; it's incredibly unintuitive. Like I know what I want to do but I have no clue how to get that to happen
- Navigation isn't phenomenal and doing tight manuevers doesn't always work the way you'd hope them to
- Having to unlock more powerful guns by playing more missions is stupid in this case. I'm encountering an issue where my shield operator is significantly behind the rest of the squad because his pistol is really shitty and has poor stopping power.
- Game is slightly unintuitive; it doesn't feel like stuff is really explained to me directly. I would've appreciated a more direct tutorial that holds your hand through actions rather than just a "How to Play" button
[*] I honestly don't think grading off of time is a fun concept. A lot of whether you win a fight sometimes can feel like total luck and playing safely is playing SLOW. You do better working slowly rather than speeding through a level.
Overall, Door Kickers is a alright game that has been made obsolete since Door Kickers 2 exists. I have not played DK2, but from watching gameplay of it, it seems that all the cons I've listed here are gone in the next game. And since DK2 appears to be just DK1 but Better, there's not much point in buying this game. HOWEVER, since this game goes on deep sales relatively often, it can still be a fun time-waster or a good demo to see if you would like the much more expensive, rarely-and-barely-on-sale DK2. So buy this on sale if you want to get a taste of what Door Kickers is like, but probably buy DK2 if this game really strikes a chord with you.
awesome game! you should try it
boom
Lots of fun. Sometimes the ally-AI is a bit lacking. You think you are behind cover but the baddies still get some shots off while you're behind cover with crazy accuracy.
good
tactigasm
Simple yet challenging. I appreciate the game play as it lets try a bunch of different approaches. This is game is a winner!
Cool beans man, love this game.
I have played for 12 hours straight.
I'm discovering so many ways that highly trained SWAT officers who look in the most nonsensical directions can get killed by idiot gangsters with guns who camp the doors of their hideouts for no reason and I'm loving it.
shit
Fun brain thinky time
This is a very novel and interesting strategy game.
Kicking door, walk in, shoot, check around then kicking door again xd
My mexican homie played this game with me, he got to play as ICE for once instead of being the one arrested
Great tactical game can spend hrs playing it.
Pretty fun

good game
Really fun and interesting top-down strategy game. 6 campaigns, 90+ single missions, and a random mission generator that allows for a good amount of playtime. Not much like this type of game out there and scratched an itch I didn't know I had. Easy to pick up and understand, but provides a good challenge throughout the missions/campaigns. Although I had played Door Kickers 2 prior to picking this one up, it was well worth it.
In comparison to Door Kickers 2; DK1 it is just a more simple version with smaller maps, less utilities, and no destructible environments. The difference in gameplay from DK1 to DK2, is like the difference from Halo Wars 1 to Halo Wars 2. DK2 is undoubtedly an improvement on the foundation of the previous installment.
With DK2s 1.0 release sometime this year, I don't see myself playing any more of this game. However, I believe it is still worth a play, even at full price. Definitely on sale.
100% in less than 45hrs.
nice
I was just playing for the second time and trying to remember why I never played much the first time when I bought it. After playing for about 10 minutes I remembered... here are some reasons:
1. I often set it to go somewhere and at a certain point walk looking the other way, but it doesn't do that.
2. Still about walking and looking, you set it to walk and when you get to a point look one way, but if you encounter enemies along the way, it kills the enemy, goes to the point you marked, but doesn't look in the direction it was supposed to look.
3. It often throws grenades at the wall hitting its own allies.
4. Sometimes it bugs and the character stops moving
Door Kickers transcends the realm of mere entertainment; it is an exemplary tactical simulation, a veritable tour de force in the domain of digital strategy, that unequivocally merits a privileged position in the compendium of any discerning strategy connoisseur. This top-down, real-time tactics game, a paragon of its genre, casts you as the orchestrator of a SWAT contingent, entrusting you with the meticulous delineation and execution of incursions upon a diverse panoply of clandestine criminal havens, each teeming with peril and fraught with uncertainty. From the preliminary briefing, where the gravity of the situation is laid bare, to the culminating dénouement of a successful operation, where the sweet taste of victory is savored, Door Kickers proffers an immersive and profoundly gratifying gameplay experience that will leave an indelible mark on your gaming psyche.
The game's apotheosis, the very zenith of its brilliance, lies in its unparalleled strategic profundity. The pause-and-play mechanic, an ingenious innovation that lies at the heart of the gameplay experience, constitutes the quintessence of this strategic depth, affording you the capacity to meticulously choreograph your team's every maneuver with balletic precision, transforming the chaotic theater of urban combat into a meticulously orchestrated ballet of tactical brilliance. Judicious deliberation, a hallmark of any astute commander, must be accorded to myriad factors: entry points, fields of vision, the judicious allocation of weaponry to maximize effectiveness, and the potential adversaries ensconced within each chamber, their motives shrouded in darkness and their actions unpredictable. A precipitous breach, born of haste and impatience, or an ill-conceived maneuver, a product of flawed judgment, can precipitate calamitous consequences, jeopardizing the mission and the lives of your team, rendering each decision a calculated gamble with potentially dire ramifications. This echelon of control and strategic planning, where every action is imbued with consequence, engenders an ineffable sense of satisfaction, particularly when a flawlessly executed operation, a testament to your tactical acumen, culminates in the apprehension of suspects without incurring casualties, a resounding victory against the forces of chaos.
Furthermore, Door Kickers boasts a veritable cornucopia of missions, each a unique and intricate puzzle to solve, designed to perpetuate engagement and forestall any semblance of ennui. You'll encounter a heterogeneous array of scenarios, encompassing the liberation of hostages from the clutches of malevolent captors, the neutralization of insidious explosive devices ticking inexorably towards detonation, high-stakes apprehensions of elusive targets who flit through the shadows like phantoms, and fervent drug busts aimed at dismantling the nefarious narcotics trade that poisons our streets. Each mission presents idiosyncratic challenges, a tapestry of obstacles and threats that demand adaptability and ingenuity, necessitating the adroit adaptation of your tactics to the prevailing circumstances. Whether you're methodically clearing a claustrophobic apartment complex, each room a potential death trap, or audaciously storming a sprawling mansion, its opulent façade concealing a den of iniquity, the game perpetually introduces novel and exhilarating situations, ensuring that monotony remains a distant spectre, forever banished from the realm of Door Kickers.
Augmenting its inherent allure, its irresistible siren song that beckons you into the heart of tactical combat, Door Kickers proffers a plethora of customization options with granular control, allowing you to mold your SWAT team into an instrument of precision. You can meticulously outfit your squad with a panoply of weapons, each with its own unique characteristics and capabilities, gear to enhance their survivability and effectiveness, and armor to shield them from the hail of enemy fire, facilitating the tailoring of your approach to each mission with bespoke precision. Experimentation with diverse loadouts, breaching techniques that can turn doors into splinters, and squad formations that maximize tactical advantage enables the discovery of optimal strategies commensurate with your distinctive playstyle, a reflection of your own tactical philosophy. This stratum of customization imbues the game with an additional layer of depth and replayability, ensuring that its allure remains undiminished through countless hours of gameplay, a testament to its enduring appeal.
Should the copious base game content, a veritable feast for tactical minds, prove insufficient to satiate your insatiable appetite for strategic challenges, Door Kickers also benefits from a flourishing modding community, a testament to its enduring appeal and a vibrant ecosystem of creativity. Adept modders, veritable virtuosos of the digital realm, have engendered a plethora of bespoke missions, campaigns that weave intricate narratives of crime and justice, and even total conversions that reimagine the game in bold and unexpected ways, dramatically augmenting the game's longevity and ensuring that it remains a fertile ground for tactical exploration. You can immerse yourself in verisimilar scenarios meticulously modeled after authentic SWAT operations, drawing inspiration from real-world events and the heroic actions of those who serve on the front lines of law enforcement; explore wholly novel environments that stretch the boundaries of imagination, from the gritty urban landscapes to the exotic locales, each with its own unique challenges and atmosphere; and even command disparate units possessing unique capabilities, further expanding the strategic possibilities and allowing you to experiment with unconventional tactics.
In summation, Door Kickers is an undisputed paragon of tactical gameplay, a veritable magnum opus in the realm of digital strategy, a shining example of what can be achieved when meticulous design meets unbridled creativity. It impeccably encapsulates the palpable tension and electrifying intensity of SWAT operations, transporting you to the heart of the action, where split-second decisions can mean the difference between life and death, while concurrently providing an abundance of control and strategic latitude, empowering players to orchestrate their own symphony of tactical brilliance. With its formidable missions, each a unique challenge to overcome; exhaustive customization options, allowing for unparalleled personalization; and dynamic modding community, a testament to its enduring legacy, Door Kickers delivers an immensely rewarding and replayable experience that will enthrall strategy enthusiasts, aficionados of tactical gameplay, and connoisseurs of digital entertainment for countless hours, leaving an indelible mark on their gaming repertoire and solidifying its place as a true classic in the annals of gaming history.

the skill curve is immense. i constantly tap into my insane cag larp mindset to try and beat a level but still end up failing many times. 10/10, i hate eastridge woods cabin.
FBI OPEN UP!
tactical game
Amazing casual top down tactical sandbox / puzzle game.
Perfect if you like tactics games but do not dedicate enough time to gaming to get stuck into deep tactical games like X-COM and Jagged Alliance 2.
My favourite way to play is to make a plan at the start of a mission when the game is paused, hit play to see how it plays out, then reset the level so that I can alter the plan if needed and then extend the plan.
This process repeats until I've made a complete plan right at the start of a mission for the little soldiers to follow:)
Very satisfying and brain engaging. Worth full price even.
.
I've taken on criminals with full auto machine pistols, drug dealers, suspected terror cells, yet I still can't beat fire station north.
