It's harder than it looks
THEYRE GETTING RID OF THE DOPE
I've spent way too much time on this game. Would still recommend
No co-op campaign
If you’re a planner and perfectionist this game will draw you in. There are multiple subtle layers to feed your “plan well executed” endorphins. 1st layer is the pathing and strategy around pie-ing doorways, timed movements, and checking corners. The 2nd is the gun loadouts, use of flash bangs, and other equipment. The third is going back once you feel you have a good strategy and trying to put it all together in one flawless run. When it all gels it feels great. I bought the War on Doors bundle and decided to try Doorkickers before Doorkickers 2. I’m glad I did. This is a solid game and I’m already looking forward to DK2.
very fun planning and executing a plan
Fun idea, bad execution. Frustrating that they use the same right-click action to select breach options AND change your operator's field of view / strafe. Some levels have enemies that open fake doors on the edge of a map and your operator that's standing next to them will lose the draw and gunfight.
Very frustrating game when these feel like easy fixes to make a positive experioence.
Very tacticool and strategic and sometimes hard
GOOD GAME
I have a lot of fun playing it. You can turn the gore settings up and down which is fantastic. Lots of fun challenges.
Great balance of complexity and fun game.
Avoid at all costs. Devs and moderators behind this game are extremely unprofessional and biased. They do not respond properly to constructive criticisms of their games and will ban you if you leave honest feedback or point out issues. The community for the DK games is extremely toxic also, when it has no place to be considering how small it is. Doorkickers was apparently abandoned for the second game(see review for that). It still has a ‘Coming Soon’ section in the campaign that they decided to never finish.
If you really must play it… sail the high seas for this one.
Its good. Quick pick up and go game. I want to thumbs this up but it forces me to add a review as well so...
You're moving people around and telling them where to look. That's the game. And you're trying to puzzle out how to clear rooms when they have unusual shapes or inconvenient door arrangements.
Lots of fun. Starts out boring. Good once you can afford better equipment. There are levels that you literally cannot beat until you buy certain things. You HAVE TO LOSE and come back later and that's dumb. The campaigns are really good.
Master of the game design and more than a solid proof that you don't need gazillion dollar budget to make an awesome game. And it is awesome! :)
One of the best S.W.A.T games
Not enough variety, gets boring quickly.
This game is a bit difficult at times; it constantly has me revising plans, sorting through equipment, and trying for completion. It's good at having me think out solutions instead of straight brute forcing the game all the time, this could potentially be due to the nature of RTS games, but this is my first, do I don't really know.
Do you like the planning part of Rainbow Six games, but hate actually participating in the FPS part? This is the game for you.

At full price, I don't find Door Kickers to be all that outstanding. Yet you can buy it for a couple of bucks when it's on a deep sale and get literally hundreds of missions, community-made maps, and even your own level editor, all packaged into a top-down strategy SWAT game where you can either pre-plan every move your SWAT team makes or painstakingly move every individual member by yourself. And while I don't think there is enough gameplay diversity or depth to keep me invested for more than about half a dozen / a dozen hours, I'd still recommend spending a couple of bucks and trying it out if it looks like a game you might enjoy.
5/10
WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CANT CLEAR A ROOM WITH 4 ARMED ROBBERS TERRRORISTS ALONE?!
Tactical errors were made a plenty.
Good 7/10
10/10 would kick doors again
Amazing and entertaining game. For this game, you have to go to the roster and switch to assault, instead of using the default pointman. The assault type can use MP5 guns which take down bad guys quicker. Using assault the game becomes easier and more fun, as you can take down the bad guys better. And I don't plan at one go, as the position of the enemies will change. I clear the areas step by step, pausing in between, and watching the action.
Bought to play on mac and then they remove mac ability WTF. Installed on mac and played fine, reinstalled and not launching. The store said it worked on mac but now doesnt. WASTE!
Door Kickers is probably a great primer/demo for its sequel.
Notes
I am not a professional tactician and do not play strategy games.
Pros
- It's a phenomenal idea that does what it needs to
- Lots of customization and micro-management possible
- Lots of missions and ability to progress
- Side-challenges reward persistence and experimentation
Cons
- Units will think that they cant have their weapon drawn when they can. This results in a lot of situations where you think you should be able to have your weapon out but you can't (resulting in failure)
- It is incredibly hard to get units to swing/pie a doorway without manually controlling them while they swing; it's incredibly unintuitive. Like I know what I want to do but I have no clue how to get that to happen
- Navigation isn't phenomenal and doing tight manuevers doesn't always work the way you'd hope them to
- Having to unlock more powerful guns by playing more missions is stupid in this case. I'm encountering an issue where my shield operator is significantly behind the rest of the squad because his pistol is really shitty and has poor stopping power.
- Game is slightly unintuitive; it doesn't feel like stuff is really explained to me directly. I would've appreciated a more direct tutorial that holds your hand through actions rather than just a "How to Play" button
[*] I honestly don't think grading off of time is a fun concept. A lot of whether you win a fight sometimes can feel like total luck and playing safely is playing SLOW. You do better working slowly rather than speeding through a level.
Overall, Door Kickers is a alright game that has been made obsolete since Door Kickers 2 exists. I have not played DK2, but from watching gameplay of it, it seems that all the cons I've listed here are gone in the next game. And since DK2 appears to be just DK1 but Better, there's not much point in buying this game. HOWEVER, since this game goes on deep sales relatively often, it can still be a fun time-waster or a good demo to see if you would like the much more expensive, rarely-and-barely-on-sale DK2. So buy this on sale if you want to get a taste of what Door Kickers is like, but probably buy DK2 if this game really strikes a chord with you.
awesome game! you should try it
boom
Lots of fun. Sometimes the ally-AI is a bit lacking. You think you are behind cover but the baddies still get some shots off while you're behind cover with crazy accuracy.
good
tactigasm
Simple yet challenging. I appreciate the game play as it lets try a bunch of different approaches. This is game is a winner!
Cool beans man, love this game.
I have played for 12 hours straight.
I'm discovering so many ways that highly trained SWAT officers who look in the most nonsensical directions can get killed by idiot gangsters with guns who camp the doors of their hideouts for no reason and I'm loving it.
shit
Fun brain thinky time
This is a very novel and interesting strategy game.
Kicking door, walk in, shoot, check around then kicking door again xd
My mexican homie played this game with me, he got to play as ICE for once instead of being the one arrested
Great tactical game can spend hrs playing it.
Pretty fun
peak
good game
Really fun and interesting top-down strategy game. 6 campaigns, 90+ single missions, and a random mission generator that allows for a good amount of playtime. Not much like this type of game out there and scratched an itch I didn't know I had. Easy to pick up and understand, but provides a good challenge throughout the missions/campaigns. Although I had played Door Kickers 2 prior to picking this one up, it was well worth it.
In comparison to Door Kickers 2; DK1 it is just a more simple version with smaller maps, less utilities, and no destructible environments. The difference in gameplay from DK1 to DK2, is like the difference from Halo Wars 1 to Halo Wars 2. DK2 is undoubtedly an improvement on the foundation of the previous installment.
With DK2s 1.0 release sometime this year, I don't see myself playing any more of this game. However, I believe it is still worth a play, even at full price. Definitely on sale.
100% in less than 45hrs.
nice
I was just playing for the second time and trying to remember why I never played much the first time when I bought it. After playing for about 10 minutes I remembered... here are some reasons:
1. I often set it to go somewhere and at a certain point walk looking the other way, but it doesn't do that.
2. Still about walking and looking, you set it to walk and when you get to a point look one way, but if you encounter enemies along the way, it kills the enemy, goes to the point you marked, but doesn't look in the direction it was supposed to look.
3. It often throws grenades at the wall hitting its own allies.
4. Sometimes it bugs and the character stops moving
