I find myself sitting for what feels like 30 minutes attempting to construct the city of my dreams. Only to look at the clock on my desktop and realize I have been playing for 5 hours straight.. Needless to say, some of the best wasted time of my life.
I used top play these games when I was much much younger. This was so much fun! It's relaxing and I just love watching the city grow and change. Little difficult to get used to the systems but not a road block, lol, dad joke.
I absolutely love this game. I think it’s the best SimCity overall for me. I had a huge city and spawned a tornado, causing mass destruction. But overall, this game is super fun. I know some people encounter issues like crashing, which could be related to compatibility with certain hardware, but even with those issues, I still think the game is great. However, I’d recommend getting it when it’s on sale, as $20 for an older game like this can be hard to justify, especially with City Skylines 1 and City Skylines 2 out there.
Love this game, its very difficult to get it to run.
I've tried mods but I guess I'm just not good at installing them or what, but couldnt get anything to work.
I was able to get an autosave mod to work but eventually my save just randomly deleted and yeah that happened 2 times so that sucks.
I love this game, I do. I just cant recommend it when it's difficult to get to work. :(
Your game freezes up on me and I end up having to start over when this happens. This shouldn't happen on the cloud version of this game.
While it is quite charming to have personal messages from advisors the first few times, it gets unbearably annoying to get stopped every 5 seconds and distracted by some new issue.
The music is pretty funky, that's the best part for sure.
It feels a bit clunky and unintuitive. The streets get autoplaced so they mismatch easily and become a terrible mess.
Ok for any newer computer users, definitely use the advanced launch options and the game works normally without crashing.
Here's an advanced launch thingy I found off of reddit that worked for me
-d:soft -intro:off -CPUCount:1 -f -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -w
Best city builder sim game i've played....maybe it's the nostalgia but idc its amazin
Simply unmatched even after more than 20 years. Best city building sim out there, bar none.
The depth and complexity of this game make C:S & C:S2 feel like child's play by comparison.
Happy this was released on Steam. Played many hours over the years and found it to be easily the best of the sim city games, totally addictive.
Classic Sin City fun. Need to edit the exe file to play
After all of these years, this game is still better than any of the new city simulation games. Maxis was solid when it came to Sim City. I still play this game today. It would be awesome if a remastered version was created just to update the graphics to the new 4K abilities. The games economic engine in no way needs to be tinkered with. It functions very well.
I score this game 10 out of 10
Game is crashing constantly... and is not saving... played 22 hours, and reopened he game to a wiped out dsity and map.... Support has been garbage
I enjoy this game but it's too glitchy on this platform. I've tried on several computers and operating systems, and it crashes often. Now it won't even load on my computer. It starts then quits. So now I can't play it at all. If you want to play this game, look for it outside of Steam.
This game is peak sim city
Still holds up 20 years later.
I am very unhappy with stability of this game. I tried to play it couple of time and its crashing often. My total playtime is now like 5 hours and I am not gonna try it more. I asked for refund but Steam refused it because my playtime is more than 2 hours. Save your money - its a great game but obviously not for all "todays" computers.
A true classic. Plays well on Steam. The amazing mods created in the past couple of decades are plentiful and easy to install with the Steam version, for the most part. I wish more older games like this received Steam workshop integration, but it still works well.
To give you a sense of what people are doing in this game today: I found a city building journal on Simtropolis where someone recreated Gotham City complete with Arkham Island, Wayne Manor, and even a slum riddled with crime, named Crime Alley.
The Japanese city mods impress endlessly, as well.
If you haven't played this one before, the graphics are full of charm, and the sound is alive and vibrant. It's presentation is excellent. Check it out!
This is the OG of city builders after SimCity 3000 unlimited. Before Cities Sky;lines 1 and now 2.
We had THIS ONE. That was all we had in the early 2K's
I have a good gaming PC, and the game keeps crashing every 15 mins or so. not really worth it.
love building road connections between Big Chungus Town and Cuckistan
new concept: "Jeans City". more info to follow soon.
used to play on windows xp. but on my gaming computer of windows 11 had to uninstall it as it fails to save and crashes after 30 minutes and it doesn't save itself if it crashes I have this sort of problem with Theme hospital to, I wont add these older games now new tech dont like them and invariably crash and you lose everything, as it doesnt save auto like Transport tycoon 2 does. shame!!
I played SimCity since the first one came out. I've been away from SimCity 4 Deluxe for 2 decades and decided to crank it up.
An absolute classic, and the OST is actual fire
6/10
good throwback, very nostalgic...Very ahead of its time!
If you nerd out on road maps/road atlases like me...you'lll love it!
Honest review:
I really do like the challenge and the concept, but unfortunately it keeps crashing.
If it wasn't so prone to crashing, I'd give it a thumbs up.
If you like honest reviews, Hit that like button.
Have a great day!!!!
Had a craving for city building and after looking into it I determined to get this game as I've read cities skylines without paying for DLC lacks depth and content.
Not only did the nostalgia hit hard but I was a kid when I initially played this game, so to be in my 30s now I feel I am much better at building a successful city (although it took me 4 cities before I finally have one I'm happy with).
I haven't been able to get so addicted to a game in awhile, I played it for hours after I bought it and keep wanting to play more!
It's definitely aged graphics wise, but I don't mind it as the gameplay and other aspects are great. I'd say wait til it goes on sale for $5 or less and you can't go wrong.
Note: I play exclusively on steam deck since I only really have time to play when I'm traveling for work. It works well on the deck and after some tweaking the controls it's been a good experience.
I think I really liked the memory of the original SimCity and SimCity 2000 more than I like playing this. It's essentially the same game I guess, but it feels more clunky.
Great classic game to lose time with. I havent played in 24 years or so. Its way better now as a 40 year old.
Was one of my all-time favorite titles. Have played it and revisited it just about every year since it came out (I would have been like 7-10 years old). Whether you should play it today?:
Pros: This game has scale. Each city you found directly contributes to it's neighbors. You'll find that if you pick one huge tile to build your first city, you'll never quite get it to a skyscraper-lined metropolis without the surrounding support and infrastructure. You have to build wide before you can build tall.
Cons: Crashes and performance. It doesn't crash often, but it will close randomly without warning every few hours. Saving often is recommended. Some startup options help mitigate that. Also modern cards seem to sometimes have issues panning around the map, stuttering. Otherwise typically runs great. Finally, road options are limited and poorly balanced (excessive unavoidable traffic on certain types of roads). I find the Network Addon Mod (NAT) to be a near-requirement.
Wish I knew this was just going to be a way worse version of Cities Skylines before I bought it guess I should of looked into it more but this one wasn't for me
You're gonna want to turn off sticky keys.
I still remember buying Sim City 4 and been unable to run it on my Pentium 4 but 20 years later I'm still in awe that it can still run on modern hardware. But it stilI has a great balance between been fun and challenging the missions are fun and you can lose yourself by managing every little detail, I still like SC3000 visual style more but SC4 has a much more polished gameplay.
Bruh.....I rebought this 2004 game and played it on a 2024 computer, it really shows its age on graphics, and mechanics, yet its charm its still there!!! When I realized an whole hour passed like a minute....wish there was a 2024 one...
I am not able to open any option.
This version of the game consistently crashes.
An old game, has a few bugs, will crash semi-occasionally on newer systems after so long, only uses 4-bit alpha transparencies, and the base graphics are heavily pixelated, but here I am still playing it. There are TONS of mods to download from various modding sites to add both new buildings, higher-grade textures, cheats, and new functionality. Well worth burning a few (thousand) hours playing.
If you grew up on the original and Sim City 2000 then this is the game for you.
Still one of the best city build managers, looks fine!
One of the best city builders ever, only down side is it a bit hard to run on modern hardware. Would love to see a remaster, but being owned by EA the likely hood seems low.
its fun
this game is so fun i know that it was made over 20 years ago but there is so much content, even though it crashes occasionally it is great so charming all the missions are good i wish they would make a game very similar to this but with way more stuff now that computers are better than before i love this game so much so memeory megalopolis so fun explotation casino uh yeah 11/10 very recomending
old school fun
My first time playing after using the app version of the series. This is a cool game, takes some time to figure it out. It offers a good time for the price
The best game in the universe
forgot to do my review of simcity 4 how absolutely silly of me. first things first this is on par with crazy taxi as a classic experience, so for everyone who came here for that you can go . now for my in depth analysis which includes my feelings about the game. its pretty good i like to build my cities and connect my cities and i love my sims. um i wish that this game was just a wince bigger maps just a wince right, every sims 4 fan is agreeing with me it just needs to be like a hair or a wince bigger. god mode never use it, why does it have like save fuckery, let me have multiple saves. every other windows game knew to spam your hard drive with one trillion diferent .saves this game its like i cant egven use fuckin god mode cause then im ddestroying my citty noooo. anyway sims 4. gotta love it also ps why is education so hard to balance it costs so much fricken money what do i do guys how do i make my balanced agrarian society help
Great game, if only EA games could do a graphics upgrade would be phenomenal.
How do I suddenly come back to a game that's 20 years old and have put in 40+ hours in the span of a couple weeks? Is city planning this interesting? I have no idea!
Still the best city building sim on the market.
Sim City 4 is a good, straight forward city builder and it can be quite immersive (where did the day go?). I've played it for many years in all its variants from Sim City 2000 onwards and have no problem recommending it. One thing to watch out for though, it crashes, and there is no auto-save which is a pain, because you have to remember to save every fifteen minutes or so if you don't want to lose too much progress. A further word of caution: it doesn't necessarily crash often, and you can be lulled into a false sense of security, as I discovered one time when I lost about four hours of progress - the family heard some colourful language coming from my study that day.
