Hitman: Contracts

It's fine. It's more classic hitman. Though in the remade levels, they removed as much as they added.

The game for me almost didnt work. The performance for some reason was bad even though it can easily run it. I had crashes, corrupt save files, bugs and audio problems. Half the game is reused content from hitman 1 which is good for people that havent played it due to being very dated but for me since i have already played it felt kinda cheap. Especially since this is the shortest hitman game.

The game doesn't work properly and freezes from time to time, which makes it not even interesting to continue even though the game is certainly great.

Best game. The graphics are very good and everything is very new. I had Hitman in OG.

In total, this is my favorite games after playing Codename47, Silent Assassin, and Contracts. This is because it starts to have some stories that can be found interesting. The only problem was that there are 2 locations and series of missions that are exactly the same as Codename 47. Somehow their just a remake.

When a game silences me in utter disgust and shock by literally the first fucking cutscene, and continues to keep me in such a state throughout the whole game, that's how you know this is good. I knew this game was the "dark and griddy" Hitman game from the beginning but like... damn, I didn't think it'd go that far. This game is gross. This game is grimy. This game is disgusting. It constantly puts a bad taste in your mouth, you feel vile playing it at times, and I LOVE IT!!

Hitman: Contracts is the first of the Hitman games that I would confidently recommend to a newbie. So much of the jank from the previous two games has been fixed and the result is a stealth game that is actually really enjoyable. Most of the missions from Hitman: Codename 47 have been remastered in this title, and now they are far more enjoyable with more story-telling and tactical stealth opportunities, and with less labyrinthian level design and less unnecessarily long walking sequences. The biggest issue from Hitman: Silent Assassin is also resolved here; guards will not start mag-dumping you for running slightly near them for 0.001 seconds and Agent 47's sneak speed is also increased so stealthing is actually a possibility. Overall, Hitman: Contracts is a great game, so if you want to get into Hitman, but don't know which game to start with, then this wouldn't be a bad first impression.

GAME BROKEN

Great nostalgic stealth assassination game

Second game in the franchise that I could not bring myself to replay up to the end again.

I finished this game years ago, shortly after its release, but trying to get into it again honestly feels like a chore, unlike the previous title which had its flaws, this one's mission design feels much more linear and restrictive, for example: in the previous title I could tolerate the fact that the AI is psychotic because you could approach the missions multiple ways, in all of them you could avoid killing anyone except for the target, in this one, however; You are almost always forced to either kill or drug someone, in some instances the game forces you actively to kill an innocent which doesn't make any sense because why on earth would you implement a silent assassin rating that grants you weapons you can't use unless you achieve it and yet force the player to act in a certain way that will inevitability take away their silent assassin?

Don't get me wrong, though, I finished this game and spent lots of hours on it when it came out for a reason, the game is extremely
atmospheric and everything aesthetically in it is top notch (According to its time and technology) I liked the gore in it, the sexualized vibes and the obscenity, they made it truly interesting.
I have to also mention to the mechanics are overall an improvement over the previous title, which is mentioned in details in other reviews.

I can't however praise the story in this one, the pace is fucked, the story is basically non-existent, the Diana sections before every mention are not there, videos as well, you have to press "B" to get a briefing and you are usually lost, aside from being forced to act in a linear line in certain missions and kill or drug certain people.

I would say play this game only if it's its first time for you, so you can at least experience the great vibes and gore that were there, but afterwards there's really no need for replayability, its value does no exist and its improvements are not worth the replayability time.

I only had to cap the fps for the game to work properly. It's a lot better than Hitman 2 silent assassin in that there aren't levels that are large and empty to the point where i can run around for minutes without getting to my objective, it also has more ways to complete a level with a silent assassin rank unlike in hitman 2 where you had 1 or 2 at most. Overall i'd say it's a great game it still holds up today but it's nowhere near hitman blood money. And best of all the enemy AI is a LOT better, there won't be times where you'll question "how or why did they see through my disguise?".

No matter how I approached the game, it was not much fun, and in many ways this might be the worst Hitman game I've played so far.

Combat (when you just go guns blazing instead of doing stealth) is the least fun of the first three games, enemies do not even have bullet holes in them. Weapon variety is very poor.

Stealth. Now, I've fully stealthed most missions in this game, did not go guns blazing except for only 2 or 3 missions. Stealth in this game is not good. For one, it is super repetitive. You inject someone with a syringe/strangle someone, exchange clothes, infiltrate the area, kill the target, escape. And every mission is more or less the same in that order and gameplay. Sure, there are multiple ways to kill your targets, but it still feels lacking and underutilised in concept. Another problem with stealth is that sometimes A.I. is broken. For instance there was a time when I strangled someone, and even though it was dark and raining, someone saw me from very far away while standing sideways. Even if I pretended that he somehow saw me, there is another problem – the witness does not do anything about it. He does not draw out his gun and start shooting at me or run for help; no, he just keeps standing sideways. And only when I come very close to him, he only then begins to run. Then there are also times when I am alone in the closed room and assassinate someone and somehow someone saw me or heard me from 2 rooms away even though I used cold weapons. It is annoying and it does not happen only rarely. There is also another problem with stealth, when I am wearing a disguise it is unpredictable when enemies will see me through, sometimes I just walk a few meters away and they become hostile to me, the other times I run directly into them, do all types of nonsense like crawl or sneak around them and they do not even suspect me. It is super inconsistent. The only positive I can say about this is that the A.I. is working properly 60%-70% of the time which makes it significantly more playable than Hitman 2 Silent Assassin in that regard, but even then, the very first Hitman game was somehow more playable when it comes to stealth. And do not get me started on the conveniences and nonsense like that in the final mission in which there is a bunch of people a few meters behind you yet you can kill the target and none of them react or that you free a hostage and he just runs though the guards without them reacting to that at all.

Another problem with the game is that more than half of the missions are remakes of the missions from the first game and most of them are now worse... Some vitals elements were changed or removed, or some new redundancies added. Atmosphere changed for the worse. So, there are 8 remade missions (the first mission is not a "remake" per say, but it is in the same location as in the mission in the first Hitman game and you just go from the opposite side this time to the other side from what you did in the original game, therefore it is almost identical; and one mission was a remake of two different missions from the original game, so 7 in Contracts, 8 in the original) and only 2 of the 8 remade missions felt like overall improvements, but the others were ruined.

Yet another problem with the game is that it removes many great features that even the original game had. For instance there are no videos in the briefings. There is no shop... It would be perfectly fitting for this game to have a shop between missions as you only do contracts... No inventory management and unlike the first game you cannot dual wield any pair of handguns together... There is a default dual wield pair, but in the first game you could wield and single hand firearms together like Uzi and silenced pistol together. You start every mission with more or less the same inventory, the only difference being that sometimes you also get a suitcase with a sniper rifle and the other times you do not. It feels so mundane and lazy. Also, for some reason guards do not question your syringes or wire when they frisk you! They let you keep them... Even if you were going into a hotel and carried a sniper rifle and a few hand guns, they just take them away, they do not question why you carry so many deadly weapons with you. It is ridiculous, even the original game somehow done this a lot more realistically.

Lastly, everything in this game feels scuffed and cheap. There are no cutscenes in between most missions. Most of the game feels far from an official game and more like a poor quality mission pack made by an amateur modder, not even a 3rd party hired company. Half the time some of the sounds are missing. Scripted explosions often have no sound. Exploded objects like cars half the time disappear after a few seconds for some reason, even though in other missions the debris stay. The story does not make sense and I have a strong feeling that some content was planned but removed, because in the final mission, for some reason, my objectives show two targets killed whom I have never killed... The whole game just feels very low budget and plain unfinished. It may be more playable than Hitman 2 Silent Assassin, but at least that game had interesting mission concepts, here, almost everything is a dull and boring, very few of the new missions I would call interesting. Overall, a pretty bad stealth game.

Very good!

Good stealth game. The threat detection system or the alert system is a bit janky. I mean I get close to a guard and they immediately start riddling me with bullets. If you can overlook this, it's a great Hitman game and you should go for it.

PS: Some of the missions (mainly the later ones) are remakes of missions from Hitman Codename 47.

Atmospphere, music....everything connected together....it's so beautil. I remember playing this game as a kid in father's office on his pc. So dark so cool. It felt like that, Now it feels like that too, Nothing changed.
It will be always masterpiece and it will be.

Unfortunately, my experience with Hitman: Contracts on PC has been riddled with frustrating technical issues that make the game nearly unplayable. Despite the game itself being a classic entry in the Hitman series, the PC port is terribly flawed. Even with an RTX 3090 graphics card, the game intermittently freezes my PC, causing black screens followed by the game closing. I’ve tried every potential fix, including installing the unofficial patch from ModDB and applying community-recommended tweaks, but none have resolved these persistent crashes.

While the game’s core mechanics and level design are still enjoyable, the constant technical issues make it impossible to enjoy for any extended period of time. The experience is marred by constant interruptions, making the game feel unfinished and unoptimized.

At this point, I’ve resorted to playing an emulated version of the game because the official PC port is simply too unreliable. If you're looking to play Hitman: Contracts on PC, I recommend exploring other options, as the official port is in dire need of improvement.

Final Verdict: 4/10 – Until the issues are resolved, I can't recommend this version of the game to anyone.

This shit doesn't even work on modern pc's. Even walking in the very first scene is impossible. the closer i got to the door, the slower 47 got, before stopping completely. Don't sell games that don't work.

It's no secret that Contracts is the rushed compromise of a game designed to reuse as many things as possible to hold our attention for the real Hitman sequel.

Still, in my humble opinion, this is the first game in the series that truly holds up today, and I absolutely love it. I judge Hitman games on how fun it is to figure out a Silent Assassin way through them; this is why I play the series. Contracts is the first one where it's fun all the way through, partly because they fixed the psychotic Hitman 2 AI. Never in this game did I ask myself, "What in the hеll did I ever do to them?" The rules were crystal clear almost every time. Another reason is that the level design is just way more consistent. The worst levels in this game are just okay; there are no unbelievable stinkers like the Rotterdam/Colombia levels from Codename 47 and Hidden Valley from Hitman 2. Moreover, for the first time in the series, around four levels made it to my favorites for one reason or another.

One of those is the "Traditions of the Trade" level, and thus we must talk about the elephant in the room. Yes, more than half of them are taken straight from Codename 47, but if you ask me, this is a blessing in disguise because the alternative is playing Codename 47. Seriously, have you tried to do that lately? They ported literally everything worth a dаmn from that game, and all of it plays way better. The Rotterdam boat mission even got a complete makeover and is no longer pure cancer.

Contracts has the most unique vibe in the series. It's dark, moody, and nightmarish, and I adore it. The game is absolutely gorgeous too. Here, I tried to capture it to the best of my ability:

Hitman: Contracts is another solid entry in the Hitman series. Serving as sort of a prelude to Blood Money and a remake of the first title, Contracts' story is more about providing backstory on Agent 47 instead of introducing anything new. However, this isn't necessarily a bad thing as Contracts has some of the best missions in the series up to this point. Moreover, some of the mechanics from Silent Assassin have been tweaked to be more fluid and less frustrating; you can sprint without being spotted instantly. With that being said, there are some missions that fall short. More specifically, the Codename 47 remakes. While they are improved in some ways, nearly all of the remade levels lack the charm and character present in the original. Still, even though Contracts has some lackluster missions, it's still a great game that brings some much-welcome changes to the series. For fans of Silent Assassin, I'd suggest giving Contracts a try.

Really nice game! My favourite levels were the last ones, which are the first Hitman CD 47 missions reimagined and they look really cool! The only downside is that it is the smallest game in the series, beaten in about 2-3 hours.

21 years after its release, I finally got around to playing Hitman: Contracts. Was it worth the wait? Well...

As a fan of the Hitman franchise since 2003, when I impulsively purchased Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, these games were a large part of my early gaming years, fostering a love (or maybe just a humble appreciation) for the stealth genre, alongside Splinter Cell, another impactful stealth action series. I'd heard plenty of things about Contracts and its darker, more moody atmosphere and tone - and boy, is that right. Contracts sets itself apart from its predecessor (Silent Assassin) and successor (Blood Money) by confidently leaning into a more gritty, quasi-realistic approach for its missions and targets, something future entries in the series would come to emulate. It's perhaps the darkest (tone-wise) of any game in the series, and it uses this to its benefit across the game's 12 missions.

Contracts is presented within a frame narrative, as the outside story is of Agent 47 recuperating in a squalid Paris hotel room after a botched job (later referenced as a playable mission in Blood Money), fading in and out of lucidity, and the inside stories are a series of flashbacks he experiences of previous missions - contracts that made him who he is. For the first half of the game these missions are fairly approachable and offer plenty of clear and outlined options for assassinating your targets, although for better or for worse this does change as the game nears its action-packed finale. Hitman veterans will likely quickly pick up on the game's mechanics, utilizing disguises, hiding bodies, and remaining relatively unseen as they work to complete their objectives. It's not the globe-trotting adventure of Silent Assassin, but it is a more focused, personal story, one that references past games while also setting up the franchise's future.

While the missions offer plenty of variety, this does begin to diminish as the game approaches its last few jobs. As well, issues that plagued the final third of Silent Assassin unfortunately rear their ugly heads again - chief among them being the unreliability of some disguises. In the first half of the game, just about any disguise offered you near-perfect concealment from suspicious or questioning eyes, but in the second half it becomes more of a toss-up; if in the first half of the game you could simply walk past an enemy without them batting an eye, the second half will have enemies catching a slight whiff of you from across a room and before you know it you're wondering why your disguise has 47 bullet-sized holes in it.

The presentation hold up quite well, even by 2004 standards, and even though every mission is soaked in rain (or snow, in the case of one) the graphics are quite sharp and give the aforementioned moody atmosphere a nice sheen. Jesper Kyd returns to compose and conduct the score, which has a more electronic feel this time around, perhaps echoing the more clinical approach you take in this game as opposed to its predecessors. It makes sense that this game was developed alongside Blood Money, because many features, mechanics, and even bits of music found their way into both games - although to much greater execution in the latter.

Overall, Hitman: Contracts may feel like a glorified expansion rather than a solid, standalone entry, but it does enough to set itself apart from its predecessors while simultaneously ushering in a new era for the franchise, one that would take it into the next generation and beyond.

Feels like the first proper hitman game in the series after playing Agent 47 and Silent Assassin. Reworks the Rotterdam and Hong Kong segments from Agent 47 and gives them new life. Since the former was the absolute worst part of that game it was amazing seeing how they made in actually enjoyable to play.

First ill start by saying IF YOU BUY THIS IT'S 20 YEARS OLD expect some issues you'll need to download patches for. Don't come crying because you're dumb with anything this old expect it to need to help getting out of bed before it's ready to go.

Genuinely amazing game, I've been playing through the old hit man's and having played some of the newer one's as well I loved how dark and gritty this game was. It felt like postal 2 and manhunt had a child, the music and the game play and the targets all really make you feel like you're the horror these people fear.

It's not working properly

Great ideas and atmosphere executed poorly. Some baffling design decisions, overly strict methods of completion and a bit of jank go a long way to butchering the gameplay experience. Not worth your time.

i played through this once and its the 2nd best Hitman game in my opinion

As missões são incríveis, o mapa é bem estruturado e as diferentes formas de concluir a missão faz com que o jogo tenha uma rejogabilidade insana, mas por toda missão ser basicamente a noite e na chuva acaba ficando maçante principalmente na parte de explorar, e eu entendi foi nada da história, mas isso da pra relevar porque é culpa minha ter começado pelo terceiro jogo da franquia.
