The game is great! It can sometimes get a little dull but it's still a fun and good game.
I used to play this on my grandpas computer, he and i really enjoyed this game.
Its a classic dungeon delving ARPG! Plenty of ways to upgrade your character and being able to pass down an heirloom which grows in power is awesome.
It may not be as epic as Diablo 2 or PoE, but it has an (int limit I believe) infinite dungeon and truely random enchants on gear. No balancing of prefixes and suffixes, just simple "there is always more room for enchants" assuming you can afford to try and enchant the item, or the enchanter doesn't wipe your item back to base condition, or even curse it with 9% less strength!
Beat this game years ago and decided to pick it up on steam only to find out they disabled the console! wtf way to ruin someones fun. I feel like if we have beat the game and there isnt online access then we should be allowed to access console and do what we want within reason
Just a classic old school dungeon crawler.
It's fun... especially when you feed fish to your pet.
The found memories I have of this game also reminds me of my first computer booting up Windows media center edition and seeing this game installed with so many others was a fun time! Never then did I think about finding this so many years later on steam and playing it again. No regrets!
I absolutely love returning to these classics of the dungeon-crawling genre. They still hold up with their relatively simple design and straightforward gameplay loop. The music and visual design is a nostalgic blast to a previous era of games. I also never realized how heavily the rest of the genre would borrow from FATE, particularly Torchlight.
FATE has a few technical flaws and balance flaws. You have to dig into the config files to run in a window. The volume sliders don't go to 0, so same thing there. The engine is horribly optimized, so, even on modern hardware, the game struggles to keep up with a modest number of monsters on screens.
To fix the balance issues, I made some minor changes to the spell.dat file to improve the summoner playstyle. In the base game, your summons don't scale hard enough with Charm Spells. I tweaked the numbers, and let them benefit from some Defensive Buff Spells, and the game became so much more fun.
Can't wait to see what the rest of this series has to offer. The series allows you to move your character across games, but I'd rather get a fresh start. The heirloom system fits perfectly here, allowing me to "retire" my summoner and gift a powerful item to my next adventurer.
I played this game as a kid on my parents old computer a lot, but going back to it now, in comparison to other offers in the similar genre, it just doesn't hold it's weight. For it's age, it's not bad at all. I personally just find it very repetitive. Especially because your character does not scale as fast as they should, and so you end up having to go back and redo dungeon levels to stay afloat. This game will still always have nostalgia for me though.
I have some serious nostalgia for this game. It's real easy to play and get into. I used to play it as a 9-10 year old. There are different things to do and so much to do. It's really hard to get bored.
Just like I remember it, fun dungeon crawler.
I came back to check this game out!!! Played it like 7 years ago, it's been fun to play again got to Lvl 17 about to be Lvl 18 and on floor 27, it's been nice n chill.
Step 1) buy fishing pole
Step 2) become a fishing game.
Step 3) Fish... Fish.. Fish..
Step 4) Sell fish
Step 5) repeat step 3 and 4 till you fish up some gear and enough gear to use on your dungeon crawl.
Step 6) Save perm fish for your pet to transform into.
Step 7) double check that this is fate and not a fishing simulator.
Classic. Always go back every once in a while to this game. This game is the reason I love Path Of Exile 2
it is a fun retro game that brings back a lot of fun memories from childhood.
what's not to like about it, it's a classic from our childhoods
For a downright archaic game of this genre for the modern standard it's actually really fun, especially considering I don't usually like dungeon crawlers save for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. The dungeon crawler Roguelike for people who don't like dungeon crawler Roguelikes.
I have played this dungeon RPG for literal years and have never once turned my back on fate. i love this game beyond words.
I used to play this game as a kid and playing it now just brings back the nostalgia. If you like dungeon crawlers id highly recommend
must be an early version of Torchlight.
fun game.
This game was so good when I was a kid, felt revolutionary at the time.
Its SO loud when you first boot and hard to figure out what youre doing for a solid minute if you dont read anything.
I highly recommend it though, Especially if you're looking for something that might make you laugh at how bad it is while still being half decent.
This was my first computer RPG many years ago and it remains one of favorites. I've only just gotten back into the game with Steam, since I had used it years ago with a disc, and it's just as good and satisfying as I remember. It has simple mechanics, a fierce, loyal, and undying pet, and endless character builds options. It's a classic.
Glad to finish out my childhood.
Loved this game when I was 8 Love it as a 24 year old if they ever make a modern fate game I'll lose my mind!
a lovely throwback, was playing for 4 1/2 hours and didn't even realize it. Great to just mindlessly get lost in.
played the game since long before it came to steam xD so 10/10 pretty solid game least imo
A classic dungeon crawler. I spent more time fishing in the game then I did killing monsters. The amount of things you can feed to your pet is disgusting.
I retired as an adventurer at level 50 with legendary renown. The only hint I will leave to the new ones is "Fishing is op" 8/10
This is an easily digestible Diablo-like ARPG. Fun and exciting without being boring. Been a fan of this series for almost 2 decades.
Game is Fun if you like dungeon divers the build system being so open allows you to play in multiple ways and the NG+ system it has is really unique
A classic RPG with a fun random-generation system. With an infinite number of dungeon levels, and tons of monsters and ways to kill them, this game is worth some of your time.
Also it's cheap and takes 5 min to get the hang of because it was made in like 3-months.
It was an addictive game as a kid, and its still just as fun now!
After all this year; I've finally beat the game. It's still fun now.
A true classic! Such an oldie, but timeless play <3 This was my childhood, and now, it is my consistent go-to when I get on Steam :))
I thought I wouldn't like this game, too dark. The more I play it the more I like it.
Fate was a nostalgia game I played as a kid on the old Windows XP computer. Now, I can revisit those memories and finally beat the game.
fun game, easy to pick up and put down when you have limited time.
good passive game to play. don't got to think to much just a good old school dungeon crawler
Fate is a classic arpg. It has aged well imo compared to some games that have come out recently.
I really enjoy the simplistic nature of the game. Get a side quest, dive in the dungeon, get rewards and rinse and repeat until you get to the end. The loot and fighting is decent for today's era as well. You can't go wrong with this one in my opinion.
For gameplay check this video out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oR4RkJT_w0
Nostalgic and fun, that's all i have to say
nostalgic, one of the first games I ever played on a computer. good and fun
I play the crap out of this when I'm bored at work this game is timeless and gets grindy if you don't spend your points wisely but the grind is usually worth it I adore this game
Simple but Great Dungeon crawler
Boring and clunky.
The least engaging ARPG I've ever played.
after playing Fate, i now see pieces of it in modern crawlers.. absolutely love this series now, cant wait to play them all when the remaster comes out!
One of the best dungeon crawlers ever made. Fishing is nice and relaxing. The difficulty on dungeon levels is challenging enough to keep the player entertained 10/10 would recommend.
Fate has always been a game I looked forward to playing ever since day one. When I first played this it was on my very first computer my family was able to finally afford. I wanted a dungeon slasher game that had magical animals along with demons of all kinds. It was like fate that i found this game. After years of searching across the internet for it I finally stumbled across steams version of it and let me tell you reader. I had the same feeling and fun that i first had like all those years ago. I definitely recommend buying this game and giving it a shot because modern gases are extreme with detail and keybinding like no other but this game is perfect when you get off of a long day at work, Such simple adventures at ones finger tips.
Way long ago in the far off year of... 2006 I believe, it was Christmas time and a young nerdy child had but one desire for Old Saint Nick to bring, a laptop computer. Didn't matter what kind, what brand, what spec, just a laptop computer to call his own. Well one certainly came, a Compaq 15 inch grey sleek laptop and free trials of games never before seen. Suddenly he was a pioneer on the Oregon Trail, or a seafarer surfing the sleek blue waves and skies of the Trade Winds, or... or a young adventurer taking his first steps into a deep and twisted never ending dungeon that was different every time, a young adventurer about to meet his Fate. Hours spent testing the waters and his metal against the creatures of the dark and spent as the savior of the town and even just fishing, only to find a more sudden end telling to buy the full version! So he did and it still sits on my shelf in its cardboard box today. Yessir, this is one of the games I think of when I think of classic computer games, and I was incredibly surprised to find it on steam, especially on sale, and immediately bought all editions. Before I ever read an Elder Scroll, became dragon born, found how Dark the Soul can be or even found Kingdom Hearts, it was all Fate.
Better than anything released in the last 14 years.
an old classic
brings back so many childhood memories
I first played this game in 2009. I couldn't get very far back then, but when I found this game on Steam years later I just had to get it and the whole collection. I love this game as much as I loved it when I was a kid.
