Homeworld Remastered Collection

(F) While playing the game keeps crashing with an "Access Violation" error. I can't rate the game anything other than a complete fail if I can't get past the second mission of the campaign. Tragic as I loved the original one of my favorite games.

I loved in the orginal version on Amiga & PC, I still love it now :)

It’s easily one of the strongest remasters available, and a must-own for any fan of space-based strategy.

Quite intriguing and captivating

The original Homeworld from 1999 is in my top ten favorite games of all time. It should be in anyone's hall of fame. Unfortunately, the remastered version loads the campaigns from the original game into the HomeWorld 2 engine, which I didn't like as much. So I still play the OG HomeWorld and it runs great on any modern computer in a window.

In the first 6h, I've played HW1 up to Mission 10 (Supernova). The game has some interesting moments, but overall, it feels monotonous. I've appreciated the story thus far, and was hoping to continue, but every mission gets increasingly tedious, and after attempting this mission three times, it is just not worth the time investment to continue. The UI and 3D positioning are very clunky; every task in the game seems to take an eternity to complete.

I love RTS and 4X strategy games. Growing up, I played hundreds of hours of Warcraft 1-3, Starcraft 1-2, MOO 1-3, and Warlords 1-3. I've also logged over 150 hours on both Dwarf Fortress and Stellaris in the last 2 years. I'll probably try out HW2 at some point, but so far, I cannot recommend this; skip this one.

Homeworld, a game with a story of trial, endurance and a bit of providential destiny.

A jewel of RTS , brought back in a masterfully remastered game. Or would argue a complete remake, with visuals that are an eye candy.

Story wise the game is giving the player bits and pieces of the tragedy that befell the Hiigaran, and later Kushan people , and is delivered in a very simple , linear format, with deeper lore that can be read online.

Voice acting is impactful , and well adjusted to the scenes.
Considering the trial of a hopeful and close to be extinct species in their quest to recover their Homeworld , after the burning of Kharak does show the composure of the character, that struggle to keep their despair in check, with music to add to an already emotional setting , and well delivered.
'Kharak is burning ... everything is gone..'

Gameplay is definitely refined, and the levels presenting a real challenge, with each victory being a hardly earned one. (good thing you can actually steal ships)

You are in the void, a Pariah, being hunted by the Taiidan Imperial fleet, with few resources and a ragtag fleet, and the stakes are victory or extiction .
Probably one of the best space RTS games out there.

How have I never played this before?! This game is incredibly addictive with great levels and high paced action mixed with somehow calming after action to gather resources. Anyone that is a fan of star trek, the Columbus Day books or bobiverse would love this as much as I do.

I have required a comically large Banana Mothership after I started this game for the first time.

This game is the single greatest space RTS ever created.

The OG, epic storyline, music and atmosphere. No other game has done RTS space combat better on this scale.

A great retro RTS. It took my brain a while to understand and utilize the 3D Space. Once that clicked, the game really came to life. Recommend this to any fan of RTS games.

First time played this game at the times when it was easily fit into a 700mb CD disk.
Now, more than two decades after - this game still rocks in all its 3 dimentions: gameplay, visuals, sounds.
Didn't face any bugs that people are buzzing here. At least during full campaign everything was buttery smooth, and played on a mid-range cheap ultrabook with integrated gpu.

Definitely highly valued for people who loves RTS, space, deep tactics.

its homeworld ofc i recommend it. wild enough that after 25+ years i expect it to be controlled using WASD but that aside it still has all its charm, and tbf, not being a teen anymore it's a bit easier. i suck with the controls now but it's easier anyway.

Classic RTS with a good story and simple-to-learn, yet somewhat-difficult-to-master gameplay.

It can be quite challenging if you want it to be, and a bit infuriating at times because the AI isn't the brightest.

It doesn't overstay its welcome in terms of length, and the gameplay has just enough depth while being simple and straightforward.

Definitely a no brainer to get this if you're into space/sci fi related and like strategy games.

I'll try to keep it short and clear.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING THIS REMASTERED COLLECTION. BUT...

Cons:

Tactical groups:
They break. For example, you assign 10 units to group 1, then in a new mission you press 1 — and not all of them respond, even though they all still show the group number.

Stances (Intents):
They reset every mission and generally work poorly. For example, in the defensive stance, your ships spot enemies light-years away and charge straight at them. Why?! And why do all cruisers and battleships always default to passive stance?

Formations:
They’re basically useless and constantly reset to default.

Sensors:
Sometimes the sensor screen bugs out and won’t open with the hotkey.

Cursor:
It randomly disappears or freezes… In a tactical game, Carl!

Fleet issues:
Sometimes half your fighters and corvettes just vanish when a new mission starts. Why?

Difficulty:
Completely unbalanced scaling of enemy fleets compared to yours. In several Homeworld 2 missions, I faced swarms of enemy fighters and corvettes that shredded my forces into dust. There's just no way to counter that nonsense...

Classic Homeworld 1:
Also broken. Ships can’t refuel — docking just doesn’t work. And fuel mechanics were one of the core gameplay features!

Pros:

They slapped updated graphics on the first Homeworld, changed the HUD… maybe did a few other tweaks.

Conclusion:

...BUT the game still hits. It brought back childhood memories.
The remaster though? It’s insultingly bad. Don’t buy it. Go play the original versions instead.

Great game! Very fit for people who want to have some space battle experiences

Fun campaign until you get to mission 7. You have to survive for 8 minutes against an indestructible capital ship that magically spawns like 50 ships a minute and can teleport anywhere randomly. The game also caps you off at 70 small fighter/corvette ships while the enemy gets like 200 in this mission... Also you need mods to fix broken ship formation commands. If you get this I would stick to skirmish mode but ignore the campaign it gets kinda lame.

Awesome retro title, the HW is pretty buggy unfortunately but HW2 still rocks and is one of the coolest space realtime strategy game out there now with improved unit graphics, sweet

The originals work, you can crank them up too without mods and they do play and have a much more immersive atmosphere that the quality-of-life changes kind of remove or nerf a bit in the remake.

The bad, its dead and my opinion is because it's a niche within a genre. While probably one of the few RTS games to really try something utilizing 3d graphics as PART of the gameplay (omni-direction) because you are in space this is literally a part of the game. The moment you open your Radar you figure this out quickly!

It wasn't well known yet still had a dedicated following!

Gameplay will wear on you over time, and it is definitely limited in scope by its own design (there's only so much you can do with a fleet). That's not a reason to pass it because the experience is well worth the adventure. You will quickly feel bad about losing anybody after the first few missions too during combat or even running out of fuel is a thing in the original version which again the remastered takes away COMPLETELY!!!!

Stop doing this crap, gamers aren't dumb it's an RTS quit letting people with no talent touch these IPs!
Quality of Life ruins games, swear!

That and this also fell into the dumb RTS is a SPORT fad that wear off and imploded, honestly this trend kind of almost killed of the genre entirely due to huge amounts of burnout and games like this being tailored for competitive play ONLY, this is not a good thing and clearly it failed.

Bought for a fiver on sale. Definitely worth the money. The game is easy until you get to the last level where suddenly it's solid. I do want to play HW3 now but I've heard negative things.

I love some of the updates to how the game handles and others not so much, but I still love the game.

Complete Garbage. Someone has released this knowing that you will think its that great old game you loved except it is remastered. No this is a quick and dirty re-release in which no one has ensured it actually works. Good luck getting the launcher to start, It will probably just do nothing forever and never load. If you go into the files you can find the exe files for the games and get them to start but they crash often. If you really like this old game then I would get Homeworld2 and just enjoy that. Unless you really enjoy fixing games and finding workarounds avoid this cash grab.

this game is timeless the fact that because its space it brings a whole new world of tatics with having to think of defence and offence is up and down as well. i have purchased this game no less than 5 times through out the years.
