Age of Mythology: Extended Edition

Instead of posting "Check out the new Retold Edition" on this product page, they made the title picture black and white here... Since this generally tries to imply, that something is "outdated", I think this "statement" (even if it's a passive one) is a bit smug.

And then having game breaking bugs, that were fixed in the old version, and not being able to fix them in the new version until now.
And then LOCKING CONTENT behind a 25€ paywall and calling it premium edition or whatever (wtf??? why?)
And theeen not even half a year later announcing a DLC (*DLC*, not *update*) with content, that was already present in the final expansion of the old game.

Well, this grey version of a picture, that was on a box, that I held very dear in my childhood, tells me that the producers pretty sure don't have any respect for the work of other people and in conclusion also not for this game.
Get this somewhere else, if you can.

Buy this instead of Retold.

First of all, you're actually allowed to play it without an internet connection.
It's also cheaper, it's basically the same game, and it wasn't lazily filled with AI genslop because it was made by a team of devs who cared and not jaded, underqualified E-levels grinding every possible dollar out of our nostalgia with the minimum possible effort.

Oh, and it's got an awesome modding community!

Glad to see this didn't get ripped down from Steam despite the new release! Online didn't work very well but the game is solid otherwise

AOM is classic fun to play and easy to pick up RTS gold. 9 out of 10

definitely a golden oldie from way back when games were just maturing.

It was great to play again this game I used to play with my kids when they were little. A couple of things work a tad differently, still a great game. On windows the game was 'easier' to play as it is designed for windows. But having the opportunity to run it again on my Mac is great. Before I used Parallels and Windows on a Mac, but that is an expensive solution just to play a couple of games (and in my case, ChessBase for windows). In all a great strategy game.

I wish this game had continued on like AoE did. Still fun to play with lots of options to make each time different from the last. Recommended!

This game is a CLASSIC. Not sure if I love it for the nostalgia at this point, but I think it's fun.

Age of Mythology has been out for years now and still it is a "go-to" RTS for me. The way this game takes the best of AOE's game style and combines it with the classic mythologies is brilliant. It allows for a fun play through for both the RTS lover and the mythology buff alike.

One of the defining games of my childhood, Arkantos, holds a special place in my heart. I’ve played its campaign countless times, and with the recent release of a new version, it remains one of my all-time favorites. Although I’ve exhausted the campaign limits, the updated graphics offer a fresh experience worth revisiting. It truly stands as a masterpiece of its time.:Zeus:

It's a really good incarnation of the game in its glory days. I enjoyed playing it immensely.

I absolutely loved learning about the history of each civilization and not just getting to play as each one.

They state that you can never beat the classics, and this is a bonafide classic game. Having the entire collection together makes it that much more fun to play.

Still holds up well for an old game.

A game from my childhood that has aged well. Great mechanics like previous Age of games but with the slightly faster pace for attention holding gameplay.

THIS GAME ROCKS!!! Definitely recommend this game if you like strategy and war. I would say a good age to start playing would be about 9+ because of complicated scrolling and a lot of buttons. Mild violance, shouldn't be a problem. Great game. Should definitely play. ( :

I thought I'd try to play Retold as well, but after paying for it then installing it, it will not let me open it. Customer service is nonexistent.

Why did they feel the need to change the change the steam library art to black and white? Great game, remake is good but original is obviously also amazing!

I like Greek Myth, but am pretty slow at RTS games. This has enough variations to keep me interested. It's good for a couple of pounds, but at this point you should probably just buy the Remaster

The nostalgia of this game is immeasurable. It's still so much better than all the strategy games that have been released since. It's just perfect. Can't wait for a new release

I played this game many years ago. I will get back into it with this AoM EE, but I can surely recommend it based on what I remember of the gameplay.

Speaking of which, it's the gameplay that counts, after the graphics pass a certain level of satisfaction. AoM EE looks fine to me.

I looked at AoM Retold and guess what. The very first thing that it told me was my AMD Radeon Graphics driver was out of date. Which AMD insisted was not the case before and after I tried to update it.

Players of AoM Retold report the same circumstances, including crashes later in the game even if they could start it. When I saw that, I hit the refund button.

Look, you take your own chances, of course. I am only saying why, in addition to the gameplay, I recommend staying with AoM EE unless you are sure your machine can handle Retold.

Really good rts game with mythic lore

Base game is great, Dragon DLC is sad and anger inducing don't bother with it.

• Age of Mythology has my favorite RTS mechanics
• Rise of Nations has my favorite RTS soundtrack
Why does this have my favorite mechanics? Building a huge army and sending it into the enemies is extremely fun, kiting with bird cages is extremely fun, sending giant meteors, earthquakes, tornadoes, etc is extremely fun, filling the enemy base with beasts is extremely fun, Hersirs spam with Loki is fun, and much much more. So many game mechanics that made the game enjoyable are present in here make the game extremely enjoyable and it 100% should be something that you pick up if you haven't already.

Its a great game ive played for many years, even the campaign has a good story line which i had enjoyed when i was younger

There is no set path to take, you have plenty of choice without there being too many choices. The mechanics are good but not too complex so you dont need to spend 100 hours on the game before you can start enjoying everything the game has to offer. It is perfectly balanced and a game you can take the time to figure it out yourself and not have to spend hours on youtube. My only critique is the AI, it is great however if you want to take time to build up etc after about 30mins the AI has no tactics or initiative and after an hour they will just sit there troops at there base indefinitely, so just idle basically. This is what makes the game stale for me as i like a bigger challenge but the AI needs major work for longer battles etc.

In my opinion the game is absolutely without doubt the greatest RTS game ever made. The 5 civilizations requires different game play strategies to master each one of them.

I actually still enjoy the original version of this game, more than the remaster. Single player is great. They do a really good job of teaching you how to play before ramping up the difficulty. Which I would recommend before trying to play online. The challenges are fun to try for, the different skilltrees (gods you get access to as you level up your ages) can really make battles play out differently, and tryiing the different races really makes you try different strategies for victories.

Pretty stupid they made all the artwork for the game black and white now, it looks gross and ugly. You can edit them and add your own, but it's still pretty crappy of them to do something like that to make people think the game is old or unavailable so they can shill their new "updated" version.

The game is pretty good honestly, but the remaster is cheaper I think, so just get that one.
