A cult classic, sometimes i prefer this over aoe 2, its almost as good!
This is an absolute classic. Art and soul was poured into this game by everyone involved. Do not purchase the new "Retold" edition, this will give you significantly more happiness and joy, to see how things used to be back in the day.
The graphics have been revamped too.
Age of Mythology has endured the ages. Released over two decades ago, this game is still challenging and a joy to play. Highly recommended.

-While it doesn't quite live up to Age of Empires for me, it still holds a special place in my heart. A fun title to check out if you're into the genre, with some cool mythological twists.
Not recommending because its not for me, it functions fine and I'm sure it'd be great for those who love this type.

Appealed to me because of mythology, and I've even enjoyed some RTS like games but maybe they were all lighter then this. It'll stick with Titan Quest for that fix.
There is the new enhanced version (which is also getting new DLC it seems, getting a very frustrating trend in gaming, all these games releasing 90% the same content for a shiny paint job but then adding new stuff so its buy that or be stuck with an incomplete version), which weirdly seems cheaper then the base price on this (only by 50p but still), so I guess if you want it you may as well look at that version.
Better quality than the original edition with the picture, animation, building cities and and unlimited selection of army units?
Nostalgia, when I was in college I used to play this every day with my roommate, I really enjoyed this, still enjoy the multiplayer mode.
I’m loving the new graphics, gameplay has improved so much! The god powers can be used multiple time, just the faith required increases after each use, I’m so grateful for that. I’ve replayed the original so many times over the years, it’s nice to see they have given it new life. Honestly, I hope they release more DLC for this.
With the mythology retold, I'm pretty sure they made it to where this game doesn't work anymore. The recent update caused this game to stop working. Now no one can play it unless someone is nice enough to fix it. L Microsoft. I used play this game alot, but then the idiots did something to it to force you to buy MYTHOLOGY RETOLD. Costs a lot, like what the hell man I already bought this game, I prefer the freaking classic music and the graphics compared to the shitty new one.
Plus this game doesn't FORCE YOU TO BE ONLINE....

This game just keeps giving, the original campaign is so good, i've played it multiple times. i love the myth units, they just make everything so fun and flavorful. you really feel like you're playing distinct races in this game, more like Starcraft than age of empires in that way (which i like). I could see some people not liking the autobuild functionality but to be honest it makes this game a lot easier to get into if you're new and sometimes it's nice to not have to constantly engage with building villagers while you're enjoying the huge battles! also huge points for the map editor, there's a lot of fun you can have building your own maps and campaigns if you're willing to learn the system

My favorie Age. AGE OF MYTHOLOGY. In all its glory! SO GRATEFUL FOR AGE OF EMPIRES.
Definitely my favourite of all the "Age of" series.
It's probably not worth the full price now that the "remake" has been released (even though it doesn't include everything here) and it's also not very nice being constantly reminded that your version is now "given up on."
Still, if this does go on sale (significantly), consider it.

Brings back memories from years ago when you could play any of the gods from all pantheons. I recommend this and the new version a try.
They ruined the game. It's nearly impossible to win a game unless its on easy. I've played this game for several years, they decided to give the NPC infinite resources even on "moderate". No longer even playable. No matter what you do you will not be able to produce resources as fast as the NPC player, completely destroyed the game. Don't waste your money or time, game has been rendered nearly unplayable.
Age of Mythology has always been a nice way to turn off your brains and just massacre the enemies' villages.
Made me pretty happy to have found it on steam, when you've only had the CD-ROM for it :)
I don't really care about the new packages you can purchase, or the updates whatsoever. I'm happy the old game is available to play! One of the best strategy games ever - better than Age of Empires, in my honest opinion.
You know what? It worked, it really worked. I was having fun playing an old game from my youth, then all of a sudden the UI went black and white. The game became "not recommended" literally because the developers told me it was, and I believed them. I went ahead and bought retold. I am a pushover with no backbone whatsoever, and I hate being alive.
At least the arena of the gods content in retold is something fun to do, and to be fair to them the Chinese campaign is buttcheeks to play
For anyone who's never known much about greek, egyptian or Norse Mythology this is a great game to get a surface level understanding of a variety of cultures in one go, game plays like Age of Empires 2 in terms of mechanics but instead of stone you get Favour. fun game to waste 30 hours on
This... This game is with me since I was a lil gnome... It has grown deeply into my heard and it shall never change. No game in this world can ever top Age of Mythology for me and it's first game I played where I never even get bored of it. It's simply the best game I've ever touched before. Is it cuz of nostalgia? perhaps. But it doesn't matter.
This is also the only game I know where the Editor Mode gives you with the Trigger modifications all the possibilities you want. Heck, you can even edit a map into a point and click game... or even an RPG game... Or even entirely something else!
Ps: The atlanteans are my favorites!
An extension of the most wonderful AoE2. Love this RTS game and if you are a lego lover, or a ANNO fan, or someone looking for a chess like game, this is for you.
The fun is in the multiplayer games where you either win or fail with your friends. The jokes that (inevitably) happen when you are trying to stem the attack of the computer enemies is priceless. Tons of fun but be prepared to lose hours of your day to this game.

As someone who played the original growing up and it became my favourite game. This version is such a let down. The models are clunky and occasionally glitch when moving or when spawning in. The worst to play unfortunately is the new Chinese options and campaign that I was looking forward to. But by far the worst thing about this version, is the colour. The original was easy on the eyes and felt real (as it could be in this style). This version the colour saturation is turned up and looks fake and gross. That increased saturation takes away from what beauty the game had. If I had a PC that could run the original disc version (plus titan expansion), I wouldn't bother about this version at all. Writing this review makes me so sad due to my love for AOM
I found this game years and years ago.When they redid it for newer computers I was all over it. strategy, combat and myth all in one.

An immeasurable classic, and my favorite of the Age series.
I'll admit that childhood nostalgia plays a role here. But in adulthood, it is a genuinely smart game.

A Classic one. A must-try for the ones who love strategy games. Not very complicated and fun to play. The campaign is interesting but the best way to enjoy this game in my opinion is the multiplayer online with friends.
I've been playing this game for longer than I can remember. I used to play this with my cousins when I was like 5 years old and even though I wasn't great at it then, I had a blast. Now in my late 20s I am so thrilled to get my hands on this game again and actually play through the campaign, learn the mechanics well, and just indulge in some good old fashioned nostalgia. It's not a masterpiece, but it's a darn good game.
Love the attention to detail and graphics. The gameplay is historically based but you don't have to be a history or mythology buff to win.
I still think this version is better than the newest retold edition. While the character models might not be as impressive now, there are so many little details that I find to be better in this version. The biggest one for me is the fact that when a character dies and sinks into the ground, they leave a little skeleton on the ground that stays for a while. Game is so good. I love the atmosphere, sound effects and the music.

Much better multiplayer functionality than the original version. Still a solid rts game.
Played fine for the first 50 hours, now I get lagspikes every 5-8 seconds. What on earth is Valve doing allowing 20 year old games to "update" as though it isn't suspicious bullshit? The last "update" obviously included a line to add lag to the game so I would stop playing it, and I have. Good job technocrats, you make hell jealous.
Age of Mythology is an inspiration for esports enthusiasts. The advanced tactics and military units in the strategy game let you destroy opponents and claim settlements to conquer maps. Pegasus can make map exploration more enjoyable. I'm eternally grateful to have taken part in the War of a Million esports tournament to beat the best players in the live LAN competition. Its mythical multiplayer experience has helped groom sportsmen for a fantastic future.

I only play the campaign missions. One of my favorite games, for its story and gameplay. Old but Gold. 10/10

Classic masterpiece retooled a bit. The engine is super smooth. TBF though I do run low end set ups all the time :)

Instead of posting "Check out the new Retold Edition" on this product page, they made the title picture black and white here... Since this generally tries to imply, that something is "outdated", I think this "statement" (even if it's a passive one) is a bit smug.
And then having game breaking bugs, that were fixed in the old version, and not being able to fix them in the new version until now.
And then LOCKING CONTENT behind a 25€ paywall and calling it premium edition or whatever (wtf??? why?)
And theeen not even half a year later announcing a DLC (*DLC*, not *update*) with content, that was already present in the final expansion of the old game.
Well, this grey version of a picture, that was on a box, that I held very dear in my childhood, tells me that the producers pretty sure don't have any respect for the work of other people and in conclusion also not for this game.
Get this somewhere else, if you can.
