The great PS3 classic is back! Still love it.

Still one of the best Tower Defense games on the market.
10/10
Charming tower defense that will become challenging after a while
Monsters Ultimate is the definition of an "easy to pick up, hard to master" game. The cartoonish graphics may sell the impression that the game will be casual, and at first it is, but completing all achievements is a great challenge. The core gameplay is really enjoyable and moving the character around to perfom all actions is a fun challenge, although I wish its walking was less slippery.
I enjoy games that allow me to easily pick them up and play in short bursts, especially ones that play well with a controller, and Monsters Ultimate made me want to come back again and again, even when it got frustratingly hard. I'll admit, I had to use guides to get a perfect score on a bunch of stages.
If the gameplay looks interesting to you, try it out. Just keep in mind that in order to complete this game fully, you will eventually need to understand monster types, their weakenesses and resistances, and get a solid grasp on the timing and choice of your actions, as well as the positioning of your towers.
Fun classic tower defence.
Not much to say honestly, it was amazing back when it released.
Not fantastic, but has its strong parts and once you get the hang of it, it's generally fun to play.
Still the best tower defense I have ever played
One of my favorite tower defense games. Even more fun when you have a friend to co-op with.
i love these little fucks
tons of childhood memories with this game. From PSP, to PS Vita, and of course I needed to have it on Steam as well. I love how playful it is.
I've played this game multiple times over the years on PS3. Only recently picked it up on Steam. The ultimate edition is a nice touch as it packages all the DLC and feature upgrades the PS Vita version of the game received, and packages it here on Steam.
I've been greatly enjoying this game on Steam Deck, as well as playing some local coop with my brother recently. It performs flawlessly, is an extremely beautiful game to look at (despite coming out in 2007!) thanks to it's timeless art style, and is easy to pick up and put down.
Despite this, it is rather challenging, so expect to replay levels multiple times.
It's "old school" in the sense that it lacks what modern games typically will incorporate to alleviate the pain of failing something by having some type of experience or leveling system where at least you came away with SOMETHING at the end of the mission if you didn't pass it.
The only thing you come away with here is gaining insight in to what you might need to do differently the next time you try. This way you can slowly evolve your strategy over time until you finally nail it and get that pesky "Rainbow", which is to complete the level without letting any enemies in to your Tiki Hut.
Cooperative play is a nice addition, though doesn't necessarily make the game any easier. An addition of a second player essentially divides your resources in half. Unless you're actively communicating about your strategy, it can make for a frustrating time very quickly. With that said, it's extremely rewarding to get it right, and despite being challenging, still very much worth the experience with a friend. The game has separate paths for solo and cooperative play, as well. So if you want to truly 100% the game you will need to do both (or plug in a second controller and let one player just sit around ha!).
Overall, I would highly recommend this game to any person who enjoys tower defense games. As a previous console only player, this was actually my first experience with the tower defense genre back in 2007. It is as good now as it was back then. Truly a timeless game.
I barely played it, but I already see that I wont like it that much.
Some core elements are tedious.
You need to pick up money, if you dont do it after a certain while the money disappears. It can be tedious, as your character will get hurt and lose money if he touches enemies so you need to wait until its clear.
The enemies move slow and there is no way to speed things up.
Its hard to say what exactly the range is of your towers is as they seem to act differently to the indicator.
I havent gotten to those stages yet, but based on other reviews there seems to be questionable balancing where elements of grinding are required and that the game is more balanced towards co op play.
Art style and music are more reminiscent of a flash game, but considering this came out originally in 2007 on a console, I guess I cant fault it too much.
Its not bad. It works. But it seems to rely on hassle work more than planning and its going to be repetitive and monotonous.
