Played through GZDoom.
It's more Hexen. That's it, really.
As is customary of the times, this expansion adds new levels, but no new enemies or weapons.
The reason I'm not recommending it is because of the spawn mechanic: the base game would just spawn one weak enemy from time to time, like an Ettin or an Afrit. The expansion spawns in entire groups, including strong enemies like the Slaughtaurs, centaurs that can raise their shields to become invincible and reflect projectiles, and Wendigos.
This makes the expansion a massive slog to play through. Buy it only if you're an hardcore Hexen player.
3/10 playable on default configuration. still awful...
Technically a dlc to Hexen, but the steam version has no music.
Traps that are impossible to see and avoid kill you instantly so if you don't save often it becomes a drag.
No new things, just the same enemies and biomes.
great sh!t! better than main game
As I understand it, this is a direct continuation... Without a story, like there is a story, but it is short and gives the feeling that it should not be here at all...
And I have exactly the same opinion about this game as about the first one... Boredom!!! I don't see anything that could tell me that this one is worth playing... Although okay, the game is from the 90s, so who cares
Hexen in the original 320x240 is to pixelated but if you play in window format 1280x720 it's much better.
The controls with wasd and arrowkeys works fine for me.
But it's a very difficult game with this configuration and enemies keep coming back.
I play this for the nostalgia and nothing more.
I hope there's coming an enhanced like in DooM with some achievements.
Playing with GZDooM and Brutal Hexen is awesome indeed, but I prefer now at the moment the good old vanilla version.
It's acceptable, but the Steam port isn't. Download GZDoom and copy/paste the HEXDD.WAD file into the GZDoom folder if you buy this. GZDoom is safe, free, and doesn't even require installation. It even works with Heretic and Classic Doom.
Though, there's no music due to a bug. It may be possible to fix in the Steam port, but probably not for GZDoom. Keep that in mind.
