This game is not really Steam Deck compatible. I ran into several issues trying to get this working on Steam Deck, concerning the controls. There was some input lag that got progressively worse as the game played. I attempted to boot this up on my PC and use a USB XBOX controller, but could never get the controller to be recognized by the game. It appears that this game has a major issue when it comes to trying to use any joystick system to play the game.
The game concept and game play seemed all great. I'm disappointed that I didn't get to the full experience.
Lots of fun. Great nostalgia trip. Does what it's trying to do with aplomb.
Well, its advertisized with full controller support for xbox controllers.
That's definitely not the case.
Tried a few work arounds, but everything points to the xbox one controller being not supported. Why the developer deemed it necessary to bring out a fix concerning the issue for evoland II, but not it's predecessor, leaves me utterly baffled.
Fun trip down memory lane. Shines best when using the time travel mechanic. Good for a few laughs. You can feel the love for the source material. Will definitely check out the sequel!
This game evolves, much like the transformation of RPG games over the years.
진화하는 게임.
Half-baked concept that traps you into playing a sucky version of Phantom Hourglass
oh and the controller support is fucked
Neat
Evoland starts as a pixelated blob simulator and ends up a "how many gaming clichés can we fit into 4 hours" extravaganza. You literally unlock graphics as you go-almost both hilarious and a little concerning. Gameplay-wise, it is a mashup of Zelda, Final Fantasy, and "let's poke fun at everything you love.
It’s short, sweet, and full of Easter eggs. Just don’t expect groundbreaking gameplay—this is more of a nostalgia trip than a serious adventure. If you’ve ever wanted to feel like an archaeologist of gaming tropes, Evoland is your ticket.
8-bit/10.
Great indie game. Really unique concept. Combat is meh tho. Didn't age well in 2024, but good to play one time.
a fun play of watching mechanics evolve through the ages but please buy the updated version that comes with 1 and 2
Just kinda meh stripped down versions of rpg types, cool concept but I think it's better to just watch a play through because the game play is just a slog
Buy Evoland Legendary Edition instead.
It's a great game, but it will refuse any all input from an Xbox One controller. It will also refuse any and all input from anything that pretends to be an Xbox One controller. It will also refuse input from an Xbox One controller if you use Steams Input remapping thing between.
I used to play this on my old PC with a wired Xbox 360 controller, and it worked great. My wired 360 controllers stopped working years ago. If you're thinking of buying Evoland, don't. But, from what I read online, Evoland Legendary Edition contains Evoland 1 and 2, and it works with the newer controllers.
It was good for it's time, but Evoland 2 exists now, and it is way more fun.
Fun idea, but very simple and short. I recommend Evoland 2 if you want to see the idea better executed.
Awesome game highly recommend
Fun nostalgic
1h de um jogo que conta a historia dos jogos de RPG e graficos.
a meta game that overstays its welcome/gimmick with secrets that are of-era that were only fun in games of the time due to there being nothing else to do but run into walls to find invisible secrets.
Controller support is wonky on modern systems requiring patches that only sort of fix it.
steamdeck users: the above means its a pain to get it working, just map WASD [SPACE] and esc/tab to keys.
Amazing adventure through art styles
Evoland is a small zelda-like RPG, the main feature of which is to make game look and feel better throughout whole playthrough.
This is an amazing and unique idea, which I've never met before. One thing I can compare it to is DLC Quest, but changes that happen there during the game cannot be compared to how this game transforms. You start the game with monochrome color palete, like in original gameboy and then you will slowly evolve in much more detailed art style, reaching low-poly 3D by the end. Besides, you also unlock different abilities which will help you solve puzzles and find secrets. The game stops evolving like in 1-2 hours before ending, I've found this really good, it does not throw every single upgrade at you in the first hour, it really tries to little by little give you new upgrades throughout the game.
In gameplay terms, this an og classic zelda as it is, same style dungeons, same abilities. If you've played any classic zelda, then you will immediately notice the similarities. Not saying that this is bad, with this amazing mechanic of evolution, it feels very fun to play. Game also feature some JRPG elements, specifically classic turn based battle, but they appear only while traveling on the big map. In general, this game takes a lot of good things from other games and combines them very good.
Story is basic, in the spirit of "Go kill the bad guy and save the world", nothing interesting to mention, it is just there.
Soundtrack is also made zelda style, goes well with this gameplay, but it seems too similar to zelda games, maybe something more original would be better.
Evoland is not big, finished it in 100% in about 5-6 hours. All achievements are nice, nothing insane. There are 52 collectibles in the game, 30 stars, which are useless, and 22 cards, which are used in a small card mini game. Some collectibles were too well hidden though, no idea how you must find them if you are not a developer, but those were minority.
What I didn't like are random encounters, which as mentioned, are only found while traveling on the big map. They are insanely common, it gets really frustrating in like 5 minutes after you reach this big map travels. You will fight with monsters every few steps. Fights are extremely easy, but they still take like minute or two to finish, it is absolutely annoying.
Despite random encounters, Evoland is an absolutely amazing and unique game, I would recommend it to everyone, especially to those who would like to try zelda-like games for the first time, it is like a breath of fresh air among such games.
Exactly what's advertised, though if you are hunting for achievements it can be really annoying.
