Lazy.
I really loved the classic point and click adventure game! Really nice story and very charming animation, and puzzles that were challenging enough to actually have to think.
I'm honestly a little biased because this was the first game play-through I experienced so playing it myself was super nostalgic. Still, for anyone who enjoys point and click adventure games I would recommend. Visuals are beautiful, characters are funky & the story line/ twists are relatively good. One of my favourites :)
Great story and art work; had great time trying to guess the next plot twist but was greatly surprised by the way it went. Enjoyed it greatly.
this game is great tons of story and good for anyone who likes point and click adventure games

A solid and enjoyable adventure game, but not on a par with other classics of the genre. Play this only if you are a fan of adventure games, especially the old Lucas Arts classics.
Oh boy here goes….
Let’s get one thing clear, has Broken Age got things going for it? Well yes, but in many places it falls down and falls down hard. That’s the reason for the negative review.
So when the kickstarter way back, and I do mean way back was launched (and remember that it was sold just as a new “Point and click” adventure, with little to utterly zero about the game itself, boy you can’t do that on Kickstarter now) it was promised in a way to be a return to the quality of the golden era of LucasArts games. High production quality and well thought out puzzles. A rebirth of the genre after years in the post 90’s doldrums.
Well they nailed the first part, the animation and graphics (aside from some occasional glitches) are great, The score is fantastic along with the celebrity voice work.
That’s where the $3.4 Million of kickstarter cash went clearly. It didn’t go into the puzzles or story much at all.
Overall the puzzles are a mixed bag. The first half is fine but it all feels a bit easy and running on autopilot at times (Vella’s first part in particular). It’s also possible to play through both parts totally independently of each other.
The second half (and noted to be the worst bit by others), isn’t. Some say that it’s due to it being rushed, which I disagree with it feels as thought out. The issue really comes from a gameplay switch up after the first act. Now rather than being able to play each kids story as a separate thing, you utterly NEED to switch between both stories to beat them. This is due to clues for one story being in the other. It’s not bad and there is a logic to the puzzles, but the switch up with gameplay is, well bad.
Oh and there are a few moments that are all very timing based as well.
Oh and you will have to take some notes as well in order to beat some of the final puzzles. Oh and if you don’t its very easy to wind up in a ‘soft locked’ situation. More so with the final puzzle of the game (I am saying this as that happened to me and I had to replay the last 15 or so mins because I forgot to make a note of a certain pattern that *isn’t* reshown or repeated).
Oh and Shay’s second story is mostly an extended version of ‘fixing the bike’ bit in full throttle.
Then then there is the story. Its an interesting premise about two teenagers in two very different situations but yet share a connected story. The mystery is fine to start with, but the games second half and explanation of everything is a bit of a let down. More so the ending.
This part is the element that feels a bit rushed. All explanations needing quick and not overly satisfying resolves.
Broken age, is very much a game of two haves by design. Two central characters, two different situations and two parts of the game that differ in terms of quality.
Steam thumbs down

The art style, the story telling, and the charming dialogue made me really want to love this game. Ultimately, it is the puzzles that form the backbone of Broken Age's gameplay and regrettably I found them infuriating instead of clever. Often they involve nothing more than guesswork and dumb luck to complete and seldom puzzle-solving skills. It got to the point where I was relying heavily on walkthroughs just to progress through the game. The infamous knot puzzle was the final straw and with a heavy heart I made the decision to put the game down and walk away. I would only recommend the game to those people that don't mind relying on walkthroughs to complete games.
Lovely.
One of my favourite games of all time, highly recommend to anyone who is a fan of point and click adventure games, this one is a must play!!
Such a wholesome game overall but even though I only got 71% achievements in my first playthrough I highly doubt I'll play it again to get the rest. I would definitely recommend playing this game, though.
👍
Tbh I don't really understand wtf I just played - but I enjoyed it
An excellently crafted point and click game, rivaling the likes of Monkey Island. It has a really good story with multiple twists, lots of dialogue between characters and for interactions with items that may or may not work as you expect. I really enjoy the characters, none of them are written like NPCs that you are only meant to talk to once. Each character is written with a unique personality and story that gives them a sense of authenticity.
I played this a long time ago, but I never got past act 2 so I never knew how it ended. I would love to see more point and click games from these people!
Broken Age is a quirky adventure filled with clever puzzles, charming characters, and surprising plot twists. The mysterious Mother AI adds intrigue, while unexpected discoveries keep things exciting. With its lighthearted tone and witty dialogue, the game is a fun and engaging experience that keeps players hooked from start to finish.
absolutely enamoured by this game. the graphics are stunning, plot captivating, and the puzzles sufficiently challenging to feel rewarding yet simple enough to understand. everything comes beautifully together from sound to story to create a cozy yet engrossing atmosphere.
TLDR; 10/10 would play again
good game but whoever invented those wire puzzles that generate different for every player... i hate u
This is an amazing adventure game, with interesting plot and tricky riddles.
A fun, "childish" point-and-click adventure. Generally cute and mellow.
This game was a lot of fun. I enjoyed the puzzles, the art style, the banter, and the overall story.
Sometimes navigation got a bit annoying when there was a lot of backtracking. I also wish I could have skipped lines in the dialogue, as the only option was to skip the whole conversation or let the voices play out.
The visual part of the game is very nice, but the gameplay and the plot of Act 2 are just awful. It's a slap in the face of adventure games fans.
Broken Age: Part I, the game that Double Fine released somewhat apologetically for the first part of fulfilling their big Kickstarter dreams, is a pretty spectacular piece of work, doing the adventure genre proud by completely avoiding utter trash puzzles of the making-you-want-to-uninstall-immediately variety in favor of fascinating world-building, spectacular voice acting and sound design overall, and a great mixture of comedy and intrigue. When I finished the first part I almost regretted having checked a walkthrough, as I was having enough fun that spending a little longer exploring the world not entirely sure what to do probably would have been a good time.
But fortunately Adventure Gaming Writ Large then reared its malignantly hideous head in Part II and breathed sewage all over my good mood. Make no mistake, I was still having a good time for the first hour or so. But then I hit a puzzle so confusing that I literally had to check four different walkthroughs in order to try to understand what was going on--and I still did not know after that. Only a random message forum post spelling out the basic building block on which the puzzle was based ever got me into the proper headspace to understand how to proceed. And this is why no matter how many good times I have, I will always knee-jerk say I hate adventure games if someone asks my feelings on them.
But again, back to the positives--lots to love here, and once I got that one specific puzzle figured out I personally found all the other derivative versions of it later in the game to be simple, contrary to many accounts I read suggesting that the later puzzles were even worse. So I have to give Double Fine credit for, in my view, at least keeping the rest of the game's big puzzles in the same realm, rather than inventing another new type of maliciously random solution specifically intended to ruin your day.
Also I had no idea Jack Black was involved and his character ruled. Really the voice acting overall was just so great, as I mentioned--it particularly stands out as I just played Thimbleweed Park, and you can really tell the difference in budget between these two titles in sound quality alone. Certainly not in many other ways, as Thimbleweed Park is the superior game in my mind even if Broken Age palpably shows you exactly where those millions of dollars went.
Definitely hard, but I disagree on people who claim you need a guide to complete the game, there are hints everywhere. Act 2 throws random "twists" in the story, but aside from Act 2 being weird Act 1 and 3 were pretty good.
I’m only just getting around to playing this, a decade after its release. It’s a point-and-click masterpiece.
- Incredible art amidst captivating worlds
- Likeable characters and great character development
- Excellent dialogue writing and AAA quality voice acting
- Great story arc with a shockingly awesome twist to conclude Act 1
[*]Logical puzzles cleverly wound into context of narrative
I particularly love how the characters reactions and feedback to your interactions are clues unto themselves, gently nudging you in the direction of progress with action suggestion or affirmation of intent where that would be helpful. Broken Age does this better than anny other game in the genre that I can recall. In large, there’s ann absence of obtuse ‘moon logic’ in Broken Age, which is most welcome. With few exceptions, the game is devoid of frustration - solutions to problems typically make good sense.
Despite Act 2, the second half of the game, being notable weaker than the first, I’m delighted that adventure titles of this calibre are still being produced so long after the glory days of the 90s. Broken Age nudges close to Adventure Game royalty. While not quite achieving that status, for me it sits pretty close to the likes of Secret of Monkey Island, Broken Sword, and Blade Runner. In many ways, it is in fact a much better put together game than all of those. Incredibly thoughtful game design choices are abundantly apparent. And similarly to Monkey Island, it’s light hearted enough to play with kids, while still being thoroughly enjoyable for adults.
Here’s hoping we see even more modern point-and-click releases from Tim Schafer and Double Fine! 🤞
Great little gem of a game. didn't expect the depth of the story, characters, humor and puzzles. great voice acting and I loved the wacky characters.
Enjoyed it throughout! Really interesting worldbuilding.
Awesome story, awesome dubbing, awesome puzzles.
Really liked the game.
A disappointment, compared to Psychonauts games and so on.
Nice and funny PaC quest. Dunno about the difficulty and lack of logic of puzzles that many talk about. If you listen what characters say you wont have any troubles
Love everything about this game. Would love a sequel or something that grasps the feel. I replay it almost every year :)
Awesome classic adventure.
Played this after recently watching the Double Fine Adventure doc. I don't have previous experience with adventure games, but I'm so glad I gave this a shot! Loved the progression of difficulty, the humor, and the aesthetic! Some of the voice acting was a little stilted, but I loved every weird character. Bravo :)
it is a good game just took me forvever to figure out what to do sometimes
Don't expect a sweeping adventure like Psychonauts. This is a small point and click adventure game like old Sierra types. You play as two different people who seem to have no relation until the middle. Is this the complete game? Did I ever finish this one? I should reinstall it and play it again, it's been so long.
Good game, lot of creativity and beautiful art.
Some puzzles are a bit too cryptic, but nothing impossible.
Something i do complain is the final act and ending. Both feel rushed and leaves a lot of plot holes.
good
And so we wonder this: the divide which has flustered, will it ever settle? Will our world have peace again? I bid a goodbye today to the woes of the past and declare onto you all this: I see a future more alike the past than the present. I see a future where the bridge we cast between us will secure peace and harmony. I see a future where we cherish tradition but do not allow it to hedge our minds from running their natural inquiry. Do you see this future too? I know it must be difficult to imagine; yes, frankly I, too, am outraged by recent discoveries. But once we cleansed the tree of the rot – and that goes for all of us! Yes, once we have cleansed this world of corruption we can become one. No more lies. No more oppression. No more pecking order. A world united.
I have heard a great many things these few weeks. Faith has been lost, I understand! We sit in a world which is so familiar, but we have opened our eyes to colour for the first time and all has been warped! I have heard stories of the zealous, collecting faith and betraying their flocks. I gather word of coercion and scandal and seclusion. This age has ended. I hear by mark the end of the secrets, the lies and the wickedness. Our faith cannot be blind, our minds cannot be ignorant. This is why we gather here today in Meriloft. I think you all know what I propose, and I hope you know why. I also hope you know to consider what I say carefully, else I am wasting my time.
The old regime is gone! It comes time now that we instigate a new world order! I propose a united front. A union between our communities. Meriloft, Sugar Bunting, Shellmound and Loruna – one nation, one people. Settle down and hear me out – yes, I know. You feel betrayed by tradition, which is exactly what I am telling you. Tradition has supplanted us our families and our freedom. A war will but trigger another later down the line. What I propose is that we put behind blame, for I can assure you that your differences are outnumbered by your similarities. We can change the world as one, and settle the actions of the present. The gates of oppression have been destroyed. Do not let them return.
So, if you have my backing I beckon you to consider the future once more: an age of prosper, of peace, of security! If we unite, if we create the nation I propose, well… the horrors we have discovered will soon be behind us. And don’t you worry, the oppressive minority will pay their dues! No more secrets. No more lies. Unity. Yes, together we can say goodbye to this broken age.
A most outstanding game! I can't believe the female AI would just so neglectfully tolerant the dark fur, but we all know why the female AI watches British television. The old warrior is a coward. His daughter is meat. Hail!
