Lost Planet 3 introduces Jim Peyton, a rig pilot who leaves Earth to take on a hazardous but lucrative contract on E.D.N. III. Working for Neo-Venus Construction (NEVEC) who are preparing the planet for colonisation, Jim joins his fellow pioneers at the Coronis base and begins surveying the uncharted terrain and obtaining samples of the planet’s energy supply – Thermal Energy.
With NEVEC’s existing Thermal Energy reserve running low the fate of the Coronis mission depends on the natural source of the energy supply being located. Realising that this is a great opportunity for a huge pay-off and early ticket home to his family, Jim braves the risk of the treacherous environment and threat of the indigenous Akrid.
Acting as a home away from home and boasting an array of tools that can assist Jim on the field, the utility rig provides Jim’s safety and is essential not only for his contract work but also his protection against the ever-changing climate.
Lost Planet 3 will deliver a diverse range of gameplay including on-foot battles and intense first person action. With a number of multiplayer modes and a compelling single player experience, Lost Planet 3 will delve deeper into the Lost Planet universe, uncovering hidden truths within the unique and dynamic environment of E.D.N. III.

There is a bug in the system that involved the rig you ride and the grabber arm. I try to Press the A button that it tells me to tell my grabber arm to turn the valves in parts of the game but it doesn't not work. I watch how to turn the valves in this game it tells me to rotate the left joystick but even that doesn't work well because I try doing it and the grabber arm only turns the valves slowly it might be just my computer or controller. but I feel the game seem to have a problem with me use the the grabber arm turn valves. but have got pass the parts in the game by pressing the F key that seem to work but prefer to do it with my controller all in all the game is awesome. I do apologize if did not show respect to this game but I real do it just that that mechanic got me frustrating and I took it out on the game Developers of this game and that was not right and I want to apologize for that I just hope we can get along with each other and maybe sometime in the future we maybe get this grabber arm valve mechanic of the game fix.
it was very fun
Well, let's get into the controversial games now shall we? Did Lost Planet 3 kill off the franchise before it had a chance to really get going? Well, much like the actual game its a mixed bag. So lets, get into the pros and cons
Pros-
- Graphics- The weather effects, lighting, outdoor stage design etc. is even now 12 years later still awesome to see and look at. Character models while not terrible are very much running on Unreal 3 and you can see it, but they are by no means terrible.
-Sound- The voice acting is fairly well done, appropriate kind of music, gun sound effects are mostly punchy.
-Gameplay- 1v1 Monster vs Mech or Mech vs Mech fights, what is not to love about it. Dodge, rolls shoot, melee, are all fine and functional.
-Story - There is actually a pretty good solid story in here in the serious B movie Sci-Fi kinda way.
Cons -
- Mission structure- If you hate fetch quests, kill x number of monsters, go here get this thing, and comeback. You will detest this game
-Multiplayer- So two parts to this 1. it's dead (unsurprising given the games age) 2. multiplayer feels very tacked on, The thing that made the say two so interesting was the Co-op. and in the first one multiplayer felt fresh and new. This feels like a product of its time.
- Detection boxes- So say you have to over lapping things that you have to interact with the hit detection boxes for them dont always trigger or will keep bringing up the thing one but not the other adjacent item you are trying to interact with. and since there is A LOT of fetch quests that can make it very annoying.
Overall, really I think what makes this game such a mixed bag for most fans off the series is that it feels like Capcom couldnt figure out what it wanted to be. So instead we get a middling product, with tons of potential, that ends up being lost because its aimless overall development. @ 24.99 I would NOT get it at all, but at the $2.99 to $4.99 I usually see it go to its not terrible at all a solid 33/50.
I think this game shot itself in the foot by calling it Lost plant 3, it is not a 3rd lost planet game its an entirly different genre to the much loved arcade like shooter to play with your friends fighting massive bosses that can eat you whole and goofing about.
Think of it like a spinoff budget adventure game instead, not a great one either. You have to have a constant internet connection or launch steam in offline mode in order to play the SINGLEPLAYER campaign or it ends up booting you out midplay because a millisecond disruption with steam even though you arnt playing online anyway, and really basic stuff is overlooked like the controls showing you the wrong buttons to press for doing actions all the time. Even the correct buttons to press are really counter intuitive, like P? is to pick items up and backspace opens the log which are on the complete opposite side of the keyboard you are playing on. with limited options to rebind them as you can't use duplicates.
The story itself is just boring, like a walking simulator and combat mechanics leave a lot to be desired, the only thing it has going for it is that the akrid are interesting foes but there aren't any new ones it was just reused designs from before which is why still good.
TLDR, dissapointingly its not LP3, we want an actual third lost planet game with massive co-op boss fights again
The best way to describe this game is 'Mash F to watch Capcom desecrate the corpse of Lost Planet, for 5 hours'. If you're someone who has never played the first two games before playing this one, you might think Lost Planet was just a generic Gears of War clone with too many quick time events. This game sucks, don't buy it, watch it on YouTube and you'll get to experience about as much gameplay as the person playing it
I think this game is a perfect 8. It's the quintessential example of a bygone era in gaming. I liked allot the metroidvania structure of the maps or you could also say the HUB area structure of the world. the gameplay with the mech and on foot is very immersive and entertaining. I really appreciate the presentation of a the story, it's pretty basic stuff, but it complements the game pretty well, Some of the QTEs were a little frustrating. I would call it the good Dead Space 3 game that we never got. Also I know it's cliched to say this, but they don't make games like this anymore. :D
This a weird one to recommend, but it is still a yes from me overall.
I can see how it obviously does not match the previous games, but if it wasn't associated by name I think it could have it's own vibe going for it. I like the idea of colonists fighting nature on a new frontier, an extremely dangerous planet where everything sucks. The game functions, I don't even have any strong criticisms.
It isn't exactly the most special or interesting game, though. I think that in combination with the massive tone and gameplay shift really puts this one in a weird spot for a lot of people. So yeah, I think it's fine, but probably most people won't care too much about it.
HEY, LETS TAKE THAT FUN SOMEWHAT OPEN-ENDED SANDBOX GAME ABOUT MECHS AND SNOW PIRATES ON AN ICE PLANET AND TURN IT INTO A SHITTY MOODY LINEAR CORRIDOR SHOOTER!!!
FUCK THIS SHIT!
Lost Planet 3 is the third entry in the Lost Planet series that continues to carry it's legacy of completely swapping genres with each game. The first Lost Planet was a mission-based arcade shooter with light mech elements akin to the earlier Armored Core games. The second game leans heavier into the arcade elements and incorporates co-op as it was becoming the staple during this time. Then the third game ultimately scraps everything and resets the series once again to instead focus on a serious narrative using a third person perspective to deliver this story.
Doing any ounce of research into this game franchise reveals that the community ultimately thinks this is the worst game out of the franchise, deviating too far from it's roots to chase the third person action adventure trend that Uncharted and The Last of Us was pioneering at the time. However, while looking at the series as a whole might reveal this to be the weakest out of the three, this doesn't necessarily make it a bad game. It can be seen wearing it's influences clearly on display, but it's not some shameless ripoff, instead trying to incorporate a multitude of other different mechanics to meaningfully differentiate itself from the crowd. While I applaud it for trying these things and not taking the easy way out, I also recognize that at times these mechanics can feel really cheap and not fully thought out. Making a playthrough of this game feel more so like wasted potential instead of what it was aiming for.
As mentioned earlier, Lost Planet 3 was an attempt to reground the series after the big bombastic second entry. The story is a prequel to the events of the first game, using a small cast of characters to tell a more interpersonal story about the environment, the energy crisis, and the morals consequences that come with sacrificing one planet/environment for another. It's clear that these themes were considered and are present within the story, yet they aren't fully given the time they deserve as a lot of the interesting dialogue that can be drawn from these story beats is drowned out in the moment-to-moment gameplay.
The core of this game is a third person shooter, yet it's not necessarily a good one. There is a decent variety of guns at your disposal, yet a majority of them feel very weak in comparison to the main stay assault rife and shotgun. There is an interesting crossbow type weapon that would be fun to use if it's damage wasn't equivalent to using a pea shooter. There's a three round burst rifle that would be an interesting variety to help break up using the basic assault rifle, but once again the damage output pails in comparison to the assault rifle there's not reason to use it. It's a shame because there is diversity in these weapons, but the balancing really deters a player from experimenting. This issue could be alleviated if enemies weren't such bullet sponges. Now, to play devil's advocate, I was playing on the highest difficulty so maybe the base difficulty doesn't have this problem. But once again, your game should be balanced around all difficulties you decide to include. These bullet sponge enemies compound with the other issue of enemy density. Early on the game isn't too bad with the amount of enemies they throw at you at once, however towards the back half they're slinging so many enemies that it feel extremely overwhelming. There's cover in the game, but some areas don't have cover and a lot of enemies ignore this mechanic to completely rush you. It all feels a little iffy, like at a base level, guns feel and sound good to shoot with it generally being pretty fun, but there are these little quirks that deter the experience from reaching it's fullest potential, and this isn't contained to just the combat.
With Lost Planet 3 being a third person action adventure game, there are a multitude of linear levels that you must traverse. Where it tries to differentiate itself is instead of moving from one shooting gallery to the next, it instead opts for this semi open world type situation where you're encouraged to backtrack. I actually think this idea is pretty cool and the times where it clicked, I really enjoyed it. However, the main form of transportation between these areas is your mech, and it is extremely slow. So slow that most players will become annoyed and bored that they won't bother with this element and just completely B-Line the story. On top of this, the game world is split up into these different areas that are connected via a loading screen, and this just makes everything feel so tedious. You're often moving between multiple areas to try and find a collectible or complete a side quest, but the experience is bogged down by 10 minutes of slowly walking, then a loading screen. Then another 6 minutes of walking and another loading screen. It's so aggravating that it completely takes you out of the game. An easy fix would be have an upgrade to increase the mech speed, that way instead of say 10 minutes, it turns into 2-3. Sure would it still be annoying, but at least it would actually be tolerable. The game does provide the solution of fast travel, which is very nice. Except it doesn't work like every other fast travel where you can just pick a area and teleport, you instead have to walk to a loading screen transition and then teleport. It completely baffles me that they made fast travel so situational when there is no reason at all. It doesn't improve the flow of the game, but instead is just another needless obstruction. But the issues don't stop there, as once you finally get to where you're trying to go, you have to fight all the enemies you previously fought as they've respawned, and this happens every time. This honestly isn't the worst idea, respawning different enemies in different positions with varying amounts would keep the game fresh and interesting. But it's all the exact same enemies, and for what. A lot of backtracking is done to find missing collectibles or the occasional mech skill point/T-energy, but these rewards don't justify the hassle of having to deal with everything all over again. It's a shame because these areas can be interesting to revisit once you gain more equipment to see the different rooms and subsections you might've missed or couldn't reach prior, but a lot of people aren't going to deal with all this jank to experience it.
The one area where I think the game does excel in is it's story. The game opens up at the end of the story and you're essentially playing one long flashback. This flashback isn't contained to just a few days, but more so a few years as we jump to all these different important events that give us much needed context for what's happening. The main character is a pretty likable individual who is torn between doing the right thing, and protecting his family. All the side characters are fairly interesting, and the plot twist half-way through the story really enticed me to keep going. Everything felt like it leads into one another nicely and I'm glad that the risk they took on focusing more on the story paid off.
The last area of the game I wanted to cover was the pc port, as it's not horrendously bad, but more so an annoyance. The game for the most part runs fine, I never had any crashes or stutters, but the key bindings/mappings are all out of whack. Text prompts will appear telling you to use a specific key only for them to be lying and it's a completely different key, along with that, even if you change the key the text prompt will sometimes not change to reflect that different key. It's bearable as you just have to do a little guessing, but it will halt progress a few times if you run into it. The other issue is the audio mixing is completely off. I had turned all sliders to the lowest setting and the game was still extremely loud.
It's not your traditional Lost Planet game, Westerner Story focused. The story is better than the last 2 lost planet games, game play is average. It does have a multiplayer & i heard its fun but it's dead. RIG cockpit music sucks, NPC's are actually interesting. The characters in this game are interesting, less akrid overall.
It's a much more GROUNDED Lost Planet game, worth a play through. LP2 is still my favorite LP!
Get it on sale. not the most amazing game and defo a victim of its era in gaming 2012 ish games. but it has enjoyable enough characters and some neat gameplay and story ideas.
not as good as lost planet 1
Lost Planet is like a beautiful quirky Anime OVA and Lost Planet 3 is the tropey western netflix adaption.
Great game, Dead Space style. Still a good gaming experience beyond its years.
Fun adventure. Works great on my Legion Ho
Not the best out of the LO series but still enjoyed it :D
RIGHTS
Awesome.
fREAKING COULD NOT ASK FOR A BETTER STORY LINE GOOD FREAKING JOB EXPLOERED SO MANY ASPECTS I WANTED TO SEE do it grab it play it I cant wait for a 4th game
As far as action and rpg element goes its not bad... story is a little iffy especially since this is a prequel to 1... where did the characters go after main game? some new characters show up but were never in the first one....
So dislike for this game is threefold,
1. The 3 in the title is nonsense, they take a game very multiplayer oriented and turn it into a single player only story. The mechs they use in this feel disjointed from the other games too, the only real relation between it and the predecessors its built on is plot...kinda?
2. The game feels glacially slow. It almost feels like it was meant to be a "visual novel" type game with how little exploring the map does at least in the early game.
3. The controls are just awful, the scene in the advert videos with the blast doors had a moment where you had to interact with the consoles, and the listed button is WRONG! Not a remapping issue, not 100% sure if it was even remappable to begin with. But I remember the last time I quit this game I spent half an hour trying to get past that part and it burnt me out on the game.
Liked it better than the Callisto protocol
I come and play this game without any expectations, and hopes.
The only game i compare this is Dead Space 3, which is odd consider these 2 games don't have a large amount of owners on steam.
Or at least they are having mixed reviews.
And yet, i still prefer Dead Space 3 more, this game?
It's just a waste of your time, doing the same action over and over again, Pressing "V" to "Repair" items, for pointless 8 second.
Doing the same action over and over again, for like 6 times, or more.
Fighting the same enemies, with same weapons, over and over again.
Walking from one point to another, for 50k meters away !
Squad down, and move for another 10 seconds across the cave...
The Map/ area/ "Unbeaten Path"? Are Total POINTLESS ! Sometimes, they have Secrets/ Loot for you, but MOST OF THE TIME? THEY ARE EMPTY....
The shooting? It's not even fun...I will prefer Dead Space as you can have fun with different weapons, loadout.
If you want to buy this one? You can skip this, or you don't need this...why do you want to buy a game that... You Might as well go and Watch Youtube for the cinemactis.... (Gamerplayground Cinematics)...for real.
2/10
The Gunplay are...fine, i liked to shoot from hip....
It's fairly linear in the story and game play department but it's a good sequel to the series. I like it.
0/10
Literally Dead Space 3 at home
if i reviewed this game when it came out i give it 6/10.
in the year 2024 i give this game 4/10. too little, too late !
===
i started playing this game expecting an abysmal game, but it's better than abysmal.
if you never played any lost planet game, don't buy this or any other lost planet game.
if you already own it, do play it to get some closure. it's better than what you expect.
if you player other lost planet games but don't own this one, buy it on sale for less than 10$.
===
i recently played lost planet 1 & 2 and gave them 3/10 and 2/10 in 2024 !
i played lost planet 1 as a kid and enjoyed it back then, but in 2024 it is not good at all.
i expected the worst from this game but it is better than what you think but too little, too late!
the game is 3rd person but it is almost as if it were 1st person.
lost planet 1 has TINY story, lost planet 2 is just a bunch of multiplayer matches taped together NO STORY!
lost planet 3 ACTUALLY HAS some story, very normal OK story, nothing special.
the game has bugs and flaws that a game of this class really should not.
the first 3 missions is really intro, the game starts at mission 4 and is 8 missions total.

if you read this until here i made a game for iOS called "FatHatBoy" please check it out <3
I don't get the bad reviews, the game is not a goty but also not bad and the story is ok. I enjoyed it
Amazing game. Simply don't understand the negative reviews.
its alright
Good game
Simple, good old games
many issues with this game.. first up there was the incorrect indication to use wasd instead of F to manipulate a control.. but this game constantly uses other keys to do something as simple as picking something up.. instead of just e or a mouse click! this has to originally be a console game..because then all the stupidity makes sense!
but the stupidity continues... with a camera angle which BLOCKS you from seeing your target.. and when a mob dies.. some of the dead bodies either block you in.. or prevent you you collecting stuff.. then if you fail at a fight you have to endure the LONG winded speeches instead of just restarting at the fight.. and these pathetic devs use "ckpit locked for your own safety".. I do not like 'artificial means' to lock game play because the devs think you'll 'take advantage'! or some rubbish.. let the player decide what they will or will not do! if they die.. then that is a consequence! but these pathetic mechanisms they use.. just shows they are extremely unimaginative when it comes to 'workarounds'
far too many issues with this game.. I got to a point where I spent half an hour trying to kill a crab.. after killing 3 of them successfully.. this one would not die! stupid game
I didn't play PvP so I can't say anything about that,
but this one was such a disappointment, I played two so many times that I can dream it so when I saw there was a third one coming I jumped on it, and boy did that teach me a lesson about pre-orders not that the game was terrible, it just didn't feel like lost planet.
I wouldn't say it was the worst game, but it was the worst of the franchise and I played 1 and 2 on a crappy laptop.
If you just want some lore get it heavily discounted but full price I can't recommend.
This was a surprisingly entertaining little game. Sure, it's a bit wack at times, rushed towards the end, and mouse and keyboard sucks (using a controller is a must). But it had a bunch of quirky, well written dialogue, and had more charm than many tripple, or quadruple A titles from modern times.
One of the worst games I have ever played.
if you wanna beat all the lost planets and for some lore for lost planet. make sure its on sale tho cant imagine spend 25 on this game. now as a game itself i feel it doesnt respect your time and you could spend your money on something better easily, so many slow crawling sections, and what feel like unnecessary padding for time, the cut scenes are nice at least. you cant 100% unless you have people to make a online lobby. The mech fights were bad, basically a bunch of QTE. the only mech v mech was neat, but final boss sucked. the mech just doesnt feel good so slow which i guess is accurate but also you dont feel weight in the attacks. it has some sparks of good like i like some of the dialog, story is cool and probably something else im forgetting but
its a game not terrible but just just decent
