Took 20 minutes to get to the point where I realized this game is unplayable.
Worst settings and options of any game I've ever played
Lovely game.
Years ago I took a clown workshop on how to improvise gibberish that sounds like real language. Because of that, the brand of Simlish this game uses kind of annoyed me. Too many words are short and end in vowels, so it all sounds more like baby babble instead of a real tongue.
That and a few visual bugs are basically my only nit-picks in this otherwise wonderful game. It's so clever, so well considered. The fantasy elements and non-verbal storytelling are inspired. It's very affecting, with story that ties in beautifully with mechanics: Brothers is just the kind of gaming experience I love. I bought it way back when TotalBiscuit was always bringing it up, and I'm so glad I finally pulled it out of the backlog and gave it a go. Great game.
A nice, quick point-and-click with a cute but simple main plot.
As I write this, I see a notice below that the game requires a controller, and though it's been some years I definitely didn't need one when I played it.
charming game with very pretty level design
To be fair this is a well written game, I enjoyed the story telling and the manner in which it was told. However, as a far as game play goes, and particularly on keyboard this was annoying. Also speaking of controls that thing in the epilogue where they switch the keybinds on you, not intuitive at all.

I would call this game the videogame-equivalent of a "short story" (and a damn good one at that in my books): It focuses on a single aspect which it tries to express and then solely focuses on that and cuts away all the extraneous bits. And I am very impressed with
a) how far they took their central feature and
b) how well they used the specific opportunities of videogames as a medium to make this point (and chose to forego medium non-specific avenues).
I'd also be remiss if I didn't point out how well that game still looks more than 10 years later! Moreover, the way the game guided you through the levels without waypoints etc. was maybe not mind-blowing, but consistent and consistently good.
So for people who are generally up for story-based games - or maybe 'atmospheric' - and who do not mind games with a short runtime (I finished in less than 3 hours), I can recommend this wholeheartedly. I absolutely felt like I got my money's worth. Even more so, for people who have a knack for exploring innovative approaches to videogames as a medium, this is a must!

One of THE BEST emotional story games ever created.
You have to play with someone else on the same computer for the game to be played as intended, but you also are able to play it solo, just that it is a bit hard on some parts of the game.
Brothers has a simple, yet insanely deep story in a setting of a small village, which turns out to be more.
Linear gameplay with lots of puzzles, great music, great style, emotional situations. Graphics are a bit blocky and look old, but that doesn't matter.

I have sat on this game in my library since 2013.
It is now 2024, Oct 21st.
I finally sat down to play it. It took me three and a half hours to beat.
I guess I sat on it for so long because this was TB's game that he recommended to everyone as an example of what a good video game should be. I wanted to play it out of respect for his memory but at the same time I felt like if I did play it I would have one less thing to wonder about. I mean how could the stories about this game match my expectations.
Well, It did not disappoint. I needed something that was good because video games have been lacking in the past few years. This game truly demonstrates how video games as a medium for art can surpass our expectations. Especially considering, at the time of writing this, that the vast majority of games are striving for dollars through mediocrity.
It's best played in co-op but I played it alone.
It is atmospherically designed: Scenery, atmosphere - really nice and coherent.
The story, on the other hand, was my biggest disappointment. After all the hype about the game and how emotional and sad it's supposed to be, I wanted to give it a try because I actually really like games like this.
Without spoiling too much, I found the story very, very predictable, especially the ending could have been guessed after 45min-1h of gameplay. I also found the characters very flat and uninteresting, you could never really build a connection with them. Due to the lack of connection, the emotional moments weren't really gripping for me, I almost didn't care about them.
So if you expect anything from the story... DON'T, don't buy it and save your money and time.

I played this game twice, first time by myself, second time with my friend, and I enjoyed this game twice.

Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons was amazing. I'm playing in 2024, almost 11 years after it's release, and it's clear how many games were inspired by this style of gameplay. Atmospheric puzzle story game? Yes please! I enjoyed my 3 or so hours through the storyline and would highly recommend for the story, atmosphere, and gameplay.
Play: You enjoy puzzles (they're very light), like atmospheric games, or you have a sibling.
Pass: Story means nothing to you, you get your left and right confused easily, or you're not into puzzles.

This game will mess you up. Who knew you could do such story-telling without a single word of dialogue. And not even dialogue, but communicating it through game play. You can play it single-player or co-op, and it's not too long.

Great game! I've played this a couple times now and just came back to it recently to get some achievements. The story and cinematics are super worth it. The entire game has a sad theme to it and does a great job in its story telling. This might be an old game but it's worth a playthrough.
The puzzles aren't difficult at all and fairly straightforward. It's mainly about the journey, story, and cinematic. I definitely recommend playing this or the remake.
