About the Game
One of the most short-lived electric locomotives for the Northeast Corridor – the Amtrak HHP-8 comes to Train Simulator for the stunning new NEC: New York-New Haven route.The 8,000hp, twin-cab electric HHP-8 (‘High Horse Power 8000’) was manufactured by a consortium of Bombardier Transportation and Alstom for use by Amtrak and the Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) system. Ordered in 1999, 15 locomotives were produced for Amtrak and six for MARC.
Similar in external style to the Acela, the HHP-8 was designed to operate as a true locomotive to haul conventional passenger cars, as a replacement for Amtrak’s GE E60s and supplement the ageing EMD AEM-7s. Ironically, their lack of reliability and high maintenance costs meant the fleet was phased out just 10 years later, being replaced by the more modern and efficient ACS-64.
The locomotive is capable of running on three different power supplies seen on the Northeast Corridor from dual pantographs, picking up power from 12.5Kv 25 Hz AC catenary, 12.5Kv 60Hz AC catenary and 25 kV 60Hz AC catenary. It also has a top design speed of 135mph (217 km/h) but is actually limited in service to FRA Tier 1 standards, operating up to 125mph (201 km/h).
The HHP-8 for Train Simulator is available in Amtrak’s renowned blue and silver livery, and features cruise control, in-cab signalling display with driver vigilance, switchable display screens, cab lights, flashing ditch lights and pantograph select. Also included are Amfleet I passenger cars.
The locomotive is also Quick Drive compatible, giving you the freedom to drive the Amtrak HHP-8 on any Quick Drive enabled route for Train Simulator, such as those available through Steam. Also included are scenarios specifically for the NEC: New York-New Haven route (available separately and required to play these scenarios).

Updating my review on this DLC.
This comes with some ups and some downs. I want to start with the positives.
First of all, everything about this locomotive is amazing. The horn is awesome, the train is very detailed, the passenger cars have an interior compared to the normal Amfleets, the sounds are accurate, and so much more. It's definitely my favorite American add-on in the game so far.
But then there are the downsides.
Want to play with this locomotive outside of the New York-New Haven route? Too bad. You can't. Why you ask? There's a bug in the safety system that sounds the alerter every second and you can't disable it. The alerter will then apply the emergency brakes and thereby making you unable to play with the DLC. That's the only problem I have with this DLC and it truly sucks how I can't use it in the New York-Philadelphia route but I still definitely recommend it for people to play on the New Haven route, it's just amazing.
The locomotive is nice and all, but if you’re using a RailDriver and so much as touch the engine with any mods, the throttle will stop working.
It's a really cool train. It's just... only 2 career scenarios and 2 short training scenarios, it's like no more than an hour and a half of content. Probably best to wait for a sale.

Disabling the Alerts –
If the player does not want ALERTER functionality, they can press CTRL-F to toggle ACSES
Cut-out, this will actually toggle the alerter. This was used as there is UI on the cab signalling
to remind the user what the setting is.
If the player does not want ALERTER OR ATC alarm and penalty brake functionality then they
can press CTRL-D to toggle ATC Cut-out. In this case the cab signalling will still function, it
just won't pester you with alarms or brake applications.
To quickly get to the SUPPRESSION notch on the brakes, the engineer can press SHIFT-‘
One of my all time favorites, especially since I used to and still occasionally railfan them. It looks really good too and the scenarios were fun. The only problem is the alerter constantly going off and stopping the train, but it can easily be stopped by pressing CTRL + D when starting the session
It has the close to the same cab as the Acela but made to pull railcars and replace the now old AEM-7s though its ironic that it lasted only 10 years before being replace by the ACS-64
Looks like A spaceship takes off like A rocket then it stops dead because of the stupid alerter if this gets fixed 10 of 10 if not 5 of 10 sorry about that but the alerter hurts this loco that bad I have to drive it in simple mode because of the alarm going off every ten seconds or so and I hate simple mode I think I will try pushing the ctrl + d keys to see if I can get the alarm not to sound and still drive it in expert mode like the FL9.
Great add on Amtrak HHP-8 maybe gone and in storage.

Sounds: Nice motor sounds, although they do sound the same as the Acela Express sounds; Braking sounds nice on the inside, although coming to a stop outside is just terrible (same sound as the SWT Desiro models); bell is nice, horn has a slight problem with looping but is otherwise fine; interestingly an aws alert sound has been used as a vigilance device, but other alerts appear realistic; levers have a nice “clunk” noise to them, the switches “click” into place really well and the screen has a fun beep when you click on it. Overall 8.5/10.
Systems: All in-cab systems work as they should: in-cab signalling is easy to use; vigilance system is simple but stops you leaving the cab for too long; speed limit increase has an accurate “pinging” sound; the overspeed system (name long gone from memory) is realistic and easy to figure out, so long as you read the manual. In comparison to the Acela Express, the cruise control actually works in this locomotive and is very useful on long, boring stretches of track.Overall 9/10.
Exterior modelling: Textures are high-resolution and detailed; the vents are 3D; windows are see-through; has accurate branding and livery; pantograph is highly detailed, as is the bogies, etc. Coaches are standard unbranded Northeast Regional coaches (Amtrak branding is included but NE Regional branding is not); the textures are good enough, windows see-through and detailing done nicely. Overall 9.5/10.
Interior modelling: Cab textures are high-resolution; cab seems identical to the Acela Express although this may just be how it is IRL; most of the switches, buttons and levers are functional and the ones that aren’t don’t seem to have much of an effect on operations (excluding the non-functional TMS). All interactable controls have some sort of sound complement; unfortunately it is impossible to look around the cab in a full 360° vision. Glass is clear and easy to see through. I haven’t switched cabs yet so I do not know if the other cab is in any way different, although having changed cabs in both the ACS-64 and Acela Express I’m assuming it’s not. The coaches have only one seating position and no view in the cafe car - they are populated though. Overall 9/10.
Gameplay: At the time of writing, I have driven one and a half scenarios, which have been done incredibly well to a realistic standard (having never travelled on this service I don’t actually have an irl standard for them but they seem realistic enough.) It would be nice if the extra “scenario packs” (a separate purchase) came with scenarios for this train though, so that M8 and P32 stock could be used for AI traffic. The train is very easy to drive after getting used to it and, as a bonus, the Y and C keys can be used to change the cruise control setting. Acceleration, while normally hindered by slow speed limits off the mark, is not especially remarkable, although once above about 30mph it gets up to speed pretty quickly. Braking with the train brake is excellent, I haven’t tried the independent or dynamic brakes yet, although the automatic braking from the cruise control is prone to cause wheel slip, so if attempting to lose more than 10-15 mph I would recommend braking manually. Overall 9/10.

Awesome locomotive and great effort that Dovetail put to make this look and sound more realastic. Real horn and bell sounds are included. Only if Dovetail could have made this same horn and bell sounds to make the Acela Express to sound more realastic.

1: Alerter goes off right away, and this is my first DLC so I did not know it does.

I love this DLC, I really do. Its just the alerter randomly turns on when you're doing everything correctly and won't shut off. I passed at danger, it was approved, I was under speed limit, et cetera. Once the alerter turns on, you cant turn it off, and it turns on within a mile of departing. I love the cruise control, but the alerter glitch just ruins it .
Man, you gotta love the engine. ALL of the sounds are accurate to what they sound like in real life, including the horn and bell. I totally recommend this without a doubt.
I can't believe it! DTG MADE A GOOD DLC?!? Well yes, they have. But mind you, this is 2 years old.

Cons:
-Just like the FL9, you need to turn off cab signalling while on other routes besides NY-NH.
-Amfleets have HORRIBLE slack, but can be easily fixed by Fan Railer's HHP-8 Physics Mod.
Overall, 9.5/10, a really nice addition to the NEC.
A very nice and pleasant to drive engine with planty of power and a good to speed. She have working *AFB* features like german locomotive. The cab is great with dual screen and the sound is far better than usual DTG/RSC standard. The light are powerfull so night runs are fine. HHP-8 is the best US engine for EU railroad fans. I really love the HHP-8, she is so endearing! I dream of a MARC repaint...
Sad to see these things retired and put into storage by the Sprinters, but it does have a nice horn that, even though it may not be the actual horn, it's good enough.
I give it a 15/17.
The train puts an emergency braking on every 5 seonds, and is impossible to turn off. The only good thing is it allows a passenger view in the amfleet coaches.... I want my money back!
this locomovie even though it retired. is still great to use. new haven is a good route, but it does not satisfy my speed demon standards. so i run it along the nec to get the thrill of speed.
This locomotive is an excellent addition to the New York New Haven route. It has Amfleet coaches and a few scenarios. The engine itself is designed great and sounds good. It has similar shape to the Acela.
If you are keen about trains, and just want a train which likes to cruise and make life that little bit easier, look no further, this train is perfect for the job. Its also got the power.. hense the name, High HorsePower-8 locomotive. 8,000hp to be exact. However, if you are looking for horsepower, the locos which replace the known to be unreliable HHP-8, the ACS-64 has 8,500hp. I am not suggesting that the HHP-8 is a bad DLC, it is just at the end of the day, the HHP-8 is still a great locomotive to start off with, when you ignore most of the reality facts.
This is a good model overall, but:
Horn and bell sounds are kind of off,
and,
the in-cab levers (throttle, reverser, etc." and most of the other inside sounds are aliased to the KUJU class 166...
thats just, like, no...
