while i got this a while ago, i am finally playing it. im playing obviously on pc, maybe the controls are better on console, but as it stands right now, the controls are very figity, maybe i need to adjust the controls of my mouse or something, but, playing it is very janky and messed up. makes it hard to play sometimes, but, i am trying to beat this game. is it worth it, maybe, when its 2 bucks on steam sales, its a 7 hour game, maybe its better with other players. cause it is multiplayer. would i recommend it, no. not right now, only buy out of curiousity, and wanting a gauntlet clone.
We have two pieces of news, one of them is good, but the other is not.
The good news is that you can configure video resolution on Windows 10.
The bad thing about the game is that it is poor, flat, and very easy.
P.S. But you can still play with this artifact.
I had a lot of fun with this game. It's basically a linear Diablo clone with an above-average story, great controls, and action-packed gameplay. This is one of the more fun Diablo inspired games that I've played.
Reminds me of those old school dungeon crawler games like Dungeon Seige 1 and 2!
for 5 bucks this is one of the best games under 10 you can find here on steam. quality is about the same as Van Hellsing. but for 5 bucks. Focus Entertainment is my fav publisher and was shocked to see this for so cheep.
"R.A.W. Realms of Ancient War" is an older game from 2012. It's a venerable 12 years old at the time of this review. It's basically a poor man's ripoff of Diablo, painfully generic, mildly dark fantasy theme, generic classes.
There's a lack of quality of life features in the game, the interface is clunky and a bit tiresome to use. Hitboxing is pretty bad, too, and this is an action RPG so it should be better.
The visuals don't look terrible despite the age of the game, and it does "work", although you'd be better off with Diablo or Path of Exile etc.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts.
Another defect in the game caused by the console-peasant-centric design is the intolerably bad camera controls. There's no effective mouselook, and control of the viewing angles is deliberately outside of reasonable control from the user, which I guess might be okay except some of the bigger bosses and enemies can hit you from offscreen, so that's bad.
This defect springs from the limitations of inferior console peasant children's toy gamepads, but on PC we don't have this limitation due to KB+M controls... however, the developer deliberately chose to arrogantly foist this handicap onto PC gamers. Out of spite, or laziness, it's unclear, regardless, once more console peasants and console devs have made gaming worse for everyone.
Because this is designed for consoles, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the inferior console gaming appliances that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate compromises and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was a second thought for the console-centric developers. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for consoles forces upon a game.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?
"R.A.W. Realms of Ancient War" is a little overpriced at around $5 USD. Unfortunately Steam reviewers aren't presented with a "Maybe" option... if they did, that's what I'd choose. This isn't a completely bad game, but it's also not one of the best. As always, if you read my review and you can overlook the negatives I've called out, or they just aren't important to you, then by all means go ahead and buy this.
