🟊🟊☆ - Everytime I come back to Scoregasm, I like it a little bit more. That might be because the twin-stick arcade is an easy genre to mess up; only one in five really do it for me, and Scoregasm arouses deep sensual vibes within me. ((Ok. That's enough of that.))
Basically, Scoregasm knows what it's here to do and achieves it competently. That's not a ringing endorsement, but once in a while, you just want to shoot [stuff] up with some brainless fireworks and tawdry, raunchy sound effects. What you see is what you get. The courses are limited, but well sculpted. If you're on the fence, you should get it. I'm ready to bet you'll get more than your five bucks worth. Only thing I'd like to see added is a random/marathon mode.
This is a fun game all around. If you liked Twin Stick shooters, you should like this one! It is better than 'Son of Scoregasm'.
GAMEPLAY
Thanks in no small part to the seminal 1980s classics like Robotron and Asteroids, we now have more twin-stick shooters than we can swing a twin-stick at. The principle is the same as it's always been: kill tons of enemies and avoid bazillions of missiles. Screens are confined by boundaries so the action is tight and restricted and incredibly intense. Its main gimmick, like Waves, is a slightly overpowered special attack which kills anything within a small radius around your ship. Each level lasts about 40-60 seconds. Most enemies have one hit-point but with power-ups aplenty the usual sight is to see a monumental stream of bullets issuing forth from your ship and swarms of enemies exploding into smithereens.
PRESENTATION & DESIGN
The start-screen doubles as the level-select screen so moving your ship to the right scrolls through and uncovers the map of levels. Be warned though, it's a badly designed mess with no explanation or description given as to how navigating through the game actually works. Sound is a mixed bag as well; pumping, trance-like tunes get you into the zone but while in the menus the peculiar soundtrack coughs and splutters like a badly distorted fart. Graphics are fine, comparing similarly to the game's closest competitor, Mutant Storm Reloaded. The progression system in Scoregasm is disorientating to say the least. You get a score at the end but this gets lost to a broken online connection. However the high-score, best combo score and rank (S, A, B, C, D, E and F) for each individual level, if beaten, are stored and can be viewed on the stats page afterwards.
CONCLUSION
Scoregasm still remains one of the most intense Asteroids-inspired / twin-stick shoot ‘em ups of all time. Clearing tricky levels by a split second through skill and dexterity is always greeted with satisfying relief. Although it may not have the polish and class of a Geometry Wars it gets a lot more things right than other games of this ilk such as Bullet Candy, Gran Vitreous or Death Ray Manta. On the other hand it would benefit from giving the player the option to play individual levels (like in Mutant Storm Reloaded). The alternative Challenge levels are also too ridiculously tough for casual players. Still, the sheer enjoyment gained from the main part of the game is immense and largely makes up for these minor quibbles.
3/5

Very fun twin-stick shooter, amongst the best I've played.
The goal is to survive long enough, all while trying to get the best score, hence the name. If you've gotten enough points, you can enter some Frenzy mode, where enemies go all out and further increase your score. Depending on your performance, you unlock paths to new levels, categorized by difficulties.
The big twist in the controls is the Close Range Pulse Attack, an explosion that destroys enemy ships and bullets, which uses your energy bar that can only be replenished by letting it recharge or blasting away enough bullets, absorbing their energy. This explosive attack is of utmost importance in your success, as it can get really tense when enemies start cornering you as you desperately try to manage your energy, and there's an heavy risk/reward factor, which helps boosting your score further. It's a very fun mechanic.
There are 43 levels, all of which are set on 3 lanes, ranging from easy, normal, and hard. Each of them has a Combo Medal to get and a Challenge with a specific objective, like leading an enemy mouse through a maze for cheese. You can also unlock Expert Mode, where enemies leave an explosion of bullets upon death, making things much harder. The game keeps your best scores for each levels, so part of the fun is trying to do even better in each one of those. There's a massive amount of replay value. An issue though is that the online leaderboards doesn't work anymore, and there's little sign that it'll ever come back, but I honestly paid little to no mind to it, and Holy Christ Challenge 2B is one of my worst experiences in my gaming life.
The presentation is stellar. The use of bright colors, reflective surfaces, intricate patterns of flashy bullets (such as big waves-like motions), and a varied array of strange enemies like DNAs and happy faces, gives the game a great art style and an unique identity, it's fun to just look at the action going onscreen. The electronic soundtrack also is fantastic, sporting a variety of styles; the main menu has this ominous feeling to it, and "Tower Of One" feels like shit's about to go down, but then "The Revenge Theme" has this much more upbeat vibe.
I'm very glad I got the chance to try this game out, it even made me interested in Charlie's Games' other works. It's very fun in short sessions, give it a go.
Scoregasm! It will spiral you into world of colors and pointless shooting! Perfect arcade game to blast the holy hell out of everything!!
A good game to kill few minutes.
Scoregasm's time has passed. There are so many twin stick games of a vastly superior quality now available on Steam that there's really no reason to recommend it and many reasons to ignore it altogether...
Visually it's aged terribly and looked awful to begin with.
The stage unlock targets are false. I thought it was simply broke in places but after a bit of investigation it turns out this was an annoying and totally unnecessary design decision by the developer. His link to the real targets is down so what these actually are is anybody's guess...
Bomb refills(which are pretty essential) are a random drop and often fail to spawn when needed, when they do they are easily lost amongst the thousands of similar coloured projectiles.
Luck's a big factor, add this to the overly harsh difficulty and the game can feel unfair!
The score tables have been down for many years, I suspect they still are and always will be...?
A substandard twin stick bullet hell game that any fan would do well to avoid!
I rate the game Scoregasm 3/5. OK
This is a fairly basic dual stick style arcade shooter with mediocre sound, mediocre music, basic graphics and yet, is somewhat fun (for short periods of time) and quite challenging. Perhaps the best things about this game is the unusual menu and the fact that it's fairly cheap and gives you a lot of fun for the same price as the cost of a few candy bars. I got it for 50% off so it cost me about 2.50 cents (about the price of two candy bars in my case).
+Adequate graphics
+Challenging but not frustrating
+Good, innovative menu design
+Good, highly responsive controls
+Automatically saves your progress
+Very low system requirements
+Fairly intense (but not dramatic) gameplay
+This game's default price is 5.00
-Mediocre sound (with some stupid ooh! and moaning sounds thrown in for absolutely no good reason.
-Mediocre music (at best)
-This game has a stupid, gimmicky name.
-The multiple endings consist of nonsensical text about eating cookies and other deserts (or that's what I got for beating the game on normal difficulty) as a reward
-Pretty much no story.
I can't say I'm an expert at or on SHMUP games, but this is one I can say I had alot of fun with. As opposed to your standard scrolling SHMUP game, this follows cloer to the gameplay style of Geometry wars in facing waves of enemies. The difference here is while Geometry Wars is a endless wave SHMUP game, in Scoregasm each of the levels is with a set wave of enemies and attacks. But the gameplay is fast paced and action heavy, and it's really fun to play. I can't say that I found anything negative abou the game and for $5 it's not a bad price. This is a game I'd definitley recommend for anyone looking for some action heavy shooting, and is really fun.
If you'd like to see the gamplay in action, I did a let's play on this game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ehz6VVN7Mk
So much fun to be had with such a simple yet addicting game. Just one question why the hell is there no actual restart button for when you screw up? It just restarts you on the same level with the same number of lives that you have after you screw up. Thats not a restart. Would have much more fun on this game if I didnt have to quit and reload the level everytime I mess up. Still its only a minor flaw in such an epic game.
Awesome game, loads of level variety and lots of very interesting challanges, excellent difficulty progression, very nice controles.
I Do recommend this game!
This satisfies the crave for wacky Shmups gamers -
Pros:
- Very Responsive controls and intuitive play style.
- Levels and difficulty unlocked by how good the player performs on the previous stage.
- Very Creative set of level themes and boss designs.
- That music gets stuck in your head.
- Plenty of levels to go through including bonus difficulty sets (Unlockable by.....)
- A clear feeling of scoregasm when the target hit is achieved (You'll see in the video)
Cons (Mostly Nitpick):
- At times very hard to see what hits you (Especially during the target hit moment)
- Wishing for more power ups
- Could have gone further with the witty messages from the commander.
- Leaves me wanting more music tracks.
The game can give you a vibe close to Every Extend Extra crossed with a Tohou game but slicker in graphic and level design.
Ive done a quick title check of this game at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eI8K2GLEiGc
Definitely worth a shot for maximum Shmup scoregasm !
An enjoyable bullet hell experience for people who are horrible at bullet hell games.
It's tons of fun and challenges add tons of replay value. A pretty solid twin stick shooter.
Scoregasm - A bullet hell shooter packed with lots of incredibly fun levels and fast, fluid gameplay. Playing well in this game is guaranteed to give you lots of orga-... score and potentially hours of fun. It's pretty much the modern day Polybius - minus all of the apparent brain washing subliminal messages, I hope.
Scoregasm looks to be fun but I wouldn't know. Tried to create a profile...says I wasn't connected to the internet (I am...) and to try again when I'm connected.
Made it through the How To Play and the first act of level 1, only to be met with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error and the game terminates. Restarted and the same thing happened again when I started up Level 1.
Did a web search and apparently this is a known issue with JAVA and users of Windows 7 or Vista. I'm running Win7. Be warned if you buy this game and are running one of those two systems.
Do you like Robotron? Do you like asteroids? Do you like modern interpretations of your favorite games? Lots of fun in with arcade joystick and mouse.
A Twin-Stick Bullet Hell style game.
Ahh, Bullet Hell games, how much I love you... Or atleast love screaming at you. This game is more of a Bullet Hell Lite though, Still great fun but with none of the insane difficulty of a screen full of things really trying to kill you.
Gameplay-wise, this game handles with all the grace and maneuverability of a twin-stick shooter... So, depending on how good you are at them great to middling. I always manage to lose my grip on one of the control sticks whenever I play, but I still manage to suvive somehow.
Graphically, the screen-shots speak for themselves. Bright, vibrant colours, varied enemies and stages, a third thing... I think this is one of the prettiest games that I own.
The music in this game matches the gameplay perfectly, so much so that I forget sometimes that the sound effects and the musical score are seperated.
I may be somewhat biased in this review, because I have always been a sucker for games like this, but I do fully recommend this game if you enjoy pretty colours with a laid-back feel... Well, as laid back as a Bullet Hell game can be.
A small bit of self promotion now, I have a Youtube channel where I do Let's Plays, and this game just happens to be one of the games that I have done on it. Who would've thought it? Anyway, if you want to see some gameplay footage of this game, please check out my Let's Play of it here:

Honestly, it's the best twin stick shooter of all time. I love twin stick shooters, this game tops them all for me. I challenge you to find a better one, you won't be able to. See comment for more information, but if you like twin stick, this game is a must.
It's a shame this game is low on the popularity radar. Scoregasm, a colorful twin stick shooter with a focus on chaining large amount of kills without dying using simple twin stick controls and a close range bomb like Waves - my all time favorite twin stick shooter. Semi-nonlinear level progression gives players a slightly different experience depending on their difficulty choice, and all levels seem to uninque from others, in the way you have to dodge enemies, bullets, spawns and how to attack them. The challenge levels are quite challenge and well varied, some which require collecting items in time or moving through a deadly maze. This game is HIGHLY recommended.
You are a dude in a ship and, quoting from Vissarion's review, "the objective is not just to beat the level, but to beat it so hard that it has an orgasm." So if you want to give software constructs orgasms with your Xbox 360 controller, this is your game.
72 / 100
Your not going to get 100s of hours of gameplay out of Scoregasm but it has enough levels and variety to keep you challenged for a while. There is quite a bit to unlock and explore.
Gorgeous graphics that pop out of the screen along, classic arcade style audio with some intense close quarter 'bullet hell' gameplay makes this a fun twin-stick shooter. If you can grab it at a good price its worth adding to the collection.
Queue sound byte .. "Ooooh Yeeah!"
