Overall pretty good game. The repeating voice lines are quite annoying but the environment is nice to look at. The fighting can be monotonous sprinkled with a few special abilities each character has, but the use of vehicles with different weapon types can be entertaining. If you are a fan of the artwork you will definitely appreciate this game.
It's fun and of satisfying length without outstaying its welcome. One thing I would have liked would be a new game plus as there are several vehicles and entire weapon types you don't find until near the end or even in the post game section. it also comes across a little strange to me how the entire generated loot mechanic doesn't really show up until the final hours of the game.
I would recommend this under certain criteria. You have to really like the art style and appreciate the silliness it offers. Don't take anything to seriously and don't get bogged down in collections or side quests. Just let the weirdness of it all take you through it.
A very family friendly situation that warms the heart at times. The writing is pretty bad most of the time and the other reviews aren't lying when they say they repeat the same conversations over and over again during travels. It will get on your nerve.
I thought it was a fun game, but it overstays its welcome by about 10 hours.
Pretty fun game, has a nice vehicle variation and customization, does have too many or too little sidequests, and most of them help you grow your little town, which is always nice.
I really love Akira Toriyama's works, concept and art style~, what a treasure <3
Having a blast so far! It's a fun, laid-back game that’s easy to pick up and enjoy. Perfect for when you just want to relax and not overthink things. Definitely recommend!
Surprised by how pleasant of an experience this game is. It's just been fun existing and running around in this world.
Hand to hand combat is basic and mashy, but the vast majority of the game is about the vehicular combat. I don't know what was off about the demo's gameplay, but now that I'm playing this game for real, everything clicks and feels good to play. Also, sometimes dungeons drag on a little too long, but it's also just enjoyable to take in the sights along the way.
I really didn't expect to like the game this much, but here I am 20 hours in and still itching to get back to my next play session.
Pro
- Beautiful Art and Akira Toriyama designed character, Vehicles and World
- Customized Vehicles and different combats and traversal suited for different scenario
- Lovable Cast and main character can go Super Saiyan
- Overall a Fun Game
Con
- Ok Storyline
- Bad atmospheric Music
- Annoying and Repeatitive Dialogue
- Basic Combat Mechanic
- Copy and Past Level Design, Venue Layout and Enemies (Different in Color Sprite)
RIP TORIYAMA.
If you like his art style, and an action story driven JRPG, you will like this game.
A surprise gem. Tells a simple, but fun and interesting story. The characters are all great and the cast did a fantastic job bringing their personalities to life.
Combat can be rather simple and, even on hard, does not ever really pose a challenge. But it is still really fun.
Building up your vehicles is enjoyable, but the true loot doesnt start dropping until nearly the end of the game. At that point it adds an entire extra level of depth to the system.
The game is also much longer than the internet tells you it is. Every site claims you can finish it in 20 hours, with only 40 hours to 100%. I think those numbers are either AI generated or full of crap. I'm currently at 40 hours, have done a lot extra things (definitely not all), and am only about 65% through the main story.
I feel very 50/50 on this game.
I bought it for $30 and don’t think I’d recommend it for $60. I didn’t know the ties to Toriyama and that this was based on a manga/anime. It’s an exceptionally well-made game compared to other story-driven manga/anime-based games I’ve played.
I played on a ps5 controller.
Pros:
• Easily immersible open world that has a lot to explore similar to Borderlands 2’s wasteland that can be explored almost straight from the start.
• Fun vehicles that can be configured with different builds, paint colors, and weapons. A lot of customization options.
• Ability to trade materials for different materials/ease of access to certain things that can only be found by hunting specific mobs.
• Graphics are pretty enjoyable.
• Side quests fill in the NPC/world dweller's feelings about the current state of the world and how it has impacted different regions in different ways.
• The ongoing theme of “demons aren’t bad, just misunderstood” is fulfilling to see…although it does get repetitive.
• Open world exploration and ease of travel gives great quality of life and doesn’t feel like wasted time traveling from point A to point B.
• Slowly building out the town of Spino feels very rewarding to see the progression over time.
• Racing time trials.
Cons:
• There’s a lack of need for physical combat versus vehicle. It feels shallow to always be using a vehicle and I want more character combat.
• Even in hard mode, most characters or fights are easy to beat. You never really feel any threat.
• Level progression is 90% based on the main story, leaving side quests feeling hollow and mostly for money…much less killing random mobs you come across.
• The story is only mildly compelling. I felt more inclined to explore the open world that continues the story quests.
• Audio is pretty jank. Character dialogue is not always skippable and has weird pauses up to probably 10 seconds.
• Verbal cues in open-world exploring can get repetitive and the second you hear a new line or something meaningful it is almost always cut off by something like leaving your vehicle or entering a fight.
• Having your vehicle break is the same as dying with Game Over. I’d rather switch to another vehicle (since you can hold 5 at a time!) and keep playing.
• Many plot points overshadow Beelzebub’s strength or ability shown previously which breaks immersion and, for me, leaves me disinterested in continuing the story.
• Repetitive creatures that are just given a different color as the story progresses.
Thank you Toriyama for one last gift another masterpiece indeed
Really fun to play exciting story with likable characters and stunning visuals but a bit confusing where to go sometimes and upgrading your bot can be quite annoying also small issues occur like pillar boxes in super ultra wide when trying to change to an uncapped frame rate
overall its worth 60$ if you have nothing else to play but I would wait till its 30$ on sale and grab it
Solid 8/10 game recommend it to all anime loves
6/10
Pretty good. Kinda rushed the end, the end get's a bit dry. Definitely play on hard, super easy.
The core gameplay loop is pretty fun, at least in vehicles, which you're using 95% of the time. Other than some shader loading stutters which only appear to happen once that particular effect occurs, the game is well optimized and runs well. The open world banter is an obnoxious cacaphony of repeated voicelines over and over and over again which might drive you made.
Awful forced stealth sections that were just an absolute slog, but not so detrimental as to ruin the game. But good lord were they terrible.
runs like doo doo on a 4070 super no super ultra wide support, even though it has it built in ...
I had fun playing this game! It’s based on the first parts of the manga/anime, and Akira Toriyama’s creativity shines here. If you enjoy quirky designs for vehicles and characters, this game's got that charm to it. The whole world feels unique and fun, so if you’re into his style or just want something different, definitely worth the check it out!
I really wanted to like this. It seems like a great realization of a world created by Toriyama which you can freely explore. The graphics are gorgeous, the story is charming, the gameplay feels nice enough.
Unfortunately the content itself just seems like the same enemies scattered all over the place and minor loot chests sitting out in the open, just waiting to be grabbed. No challenge, no secrets, no platforming, no puzzles, no real mechanics to engage with. I couldn't get the sense of anything in the world being crafted by an actual game designer, it was just too basic and not engaging.
I know most modern players are more accepting of open world slop than me. Maybe one day I'll be in a tired enough mood to sit through more of it for the story and world, but right now I'm not feeling it.
Numerous minor annoyances combine into an experience that isn't making me want to stick it out until the game gets worthwhile. I'll give this more of a shot sometime in the future, but from the very beginning its user-hostile design is off-putting and I don't have the patience for it right now. Below is just going to be a series of complaints that may or may not turn you off to the game, but which made me stop in less than an hour. Your mileage may vary. I've heard there's a good game underneath, and I believe it. It seems to have charm, and oozes Akira Toriyama's style.
Dialogue auto-advances only on its own schedule, which is usually about 5-10 seconds after every audio line is finished. Yes, you can manually advance it with a button press, but during cutscenes I prefer to have the lines delivered with a natural flow. Here the options are manual intervention, or several extra seconds/minutes of silence added to every cutscene.
Sometimes you have to hold a button to interact with the world; sometimes you don't. It'd be easier to accept if a) it was consistent, and b) the hold time was shorter. As it stands, it's an obnoxious and arbitrary delay to some interactions.
I assume this next one isn't an issue if you're using a controller. For some inexplicable reason, the default key for backing out of menus is Backspace. (Alternatively, you can use right-mouse button, but this doesn't seem to be explained anywhere, nor does it appear to be rebindable to something sane, like Escape.) This means you have to either know the magical secret other key (RMB), or you have to take your hand off of WASD or the mouse every time you want to close a menu or dialog. A sane default key binding for common actions on mouse+keyboard is a must for a PC port.
I'll update my review after I regain the patience to put up with these annoyances, but the game doesn't make a good first impression.
I wasn't sure about this game but it had high praise so I got it while it was on sale. The graphics caught my eye as it was akin to Borderlands, which I loved. I played the entire game through before writing this and it was a long story with plenty of action and tons of side quests. I can say that the story and voice acting were for a <16 year old or folks that are into anime/manga with overly dramatic characters and acting. They tried to make it more immersive while you were traveling the open world with comments from the characters but I heard the same thing a billion times and it got annoying so I ignored them mostly. Overall it was a really fun game with lots of "bots" to tinker with/upgrade and multiple open world interactions (side to side classic, Wow-esque open exploring and random Mobs, multiple angle "events" inside quests, even some "mini games" where you piloted a bot through obstacles or yourself. I liked the variety of ways it played and the amount of unique voice acting. The story was "meh" and a different take on good/evil as you play the prince of demons who pretends to be bad but is really good. At the time of this review I also read they will make an anime based off of this, which could be fun for the age group mentioned, maybe old farts like me too.
I really like the open world and bot mechanic of the game, it feels fresh. Exploring and trying out the combat is great the during the first few hours.
However as the game progresses, it becomes stagnant and boring. I don't feel any incentive to explore places since the Loot system is underwhelming. Layout of every ruins feels copying one another which lacks complexity, and puzzles is more tedious than challenging. I especially hate the platforming sequences, so unnecessarily annoying.
I do like the city building and some bosses are great, but I feel like the developers can and should've provided more features into it than they already have. And I really wish they could've developed the very first gimmick introduced in the game, 'Water', as I'm fairly dissapointed in how lack in importance the mechanic is to the game, considering the premise of the whole story being cented around it
Quite easy to pickup and play. Graphics are good and run nicely on Steamdeck. But after the battle with Zeu, the story gets uninteresting. It becomes a chore to finish the game now.
This game is a solid 7/10, but I'll personally give it a 6/10 for how boring and annoyingly repetitive the in game banter is. I can't believe they allowed this game to be released with such a flaw. Wish I could turn it off! Other than that, the game is kinda funny, it looks good, the combat is okay and the music is kinda meh.
I get why some may not like it, the game is a slow burn, the first few hours feel like a shore, but the more vehicles you build the more the game opens up to better gameplay. It does take a while to get there tho.
Very unique, and has an awesome boyish charm. It's stringing me along.
Love the story and the bot combat.
Played this game for a little bit, so far its a fun entertaining game that reminds me of some of the older RPG's very good story so far!
A very nonstandard JRPG, the vehicles are a cool concept I wish we would see more of.
Great game, very nostalgic, runs like a dream on the Deck. Love it....
The characters will not shut the **** up, and I swear there are like ten lines of dialog. You can turn the voice volume down or off, but it includes every character noise, not just dialog. So if you turn it off, you don't get any sound effects for jumping or fighting, and its immersion-breaking. You also cannot turn off the subtitles. I wish we'd get an update to add more audio features, or someone would make a modding guide.
If you're like me and love this Anime, then don't hesitate on this game. It follows the story closely, while nicely padding it with side quests. One of the final creations of Akira Toriyama!
Expected a shallow anime-tie-in game, instead got a wonderfully crafted RPG with a surprising amount of customization and depth. An excellent sendoff and final farewell by Toriyama R.I.P.
This is a good game its fun plays well graphics are beautiful tbh im surprised cause didn't think id like it but its great .
cant get past jump bot quest. absolute waste of time and money
A nice change of pace of a game. Good for any age.
need to try this
This game has everything I love: many vehicles to ride and customize and huge world to explore! One of the best games this year.
Great Game!

A simple and awarding game all the way to the end.
Sand Land is my sit-back-and-relax game of the year. As one of Akira Toriyama's final projects—and a manga/anime I hadn’t explored before—it was both a thrilling and bittersweet experience to play through.
The characters are brought to life through exceptional voice acting and vibrant animation, making every cutscene a visual and emotional treat. The story itself feels like Toriyama's own spin on Mad Max, blending post-apocalyptic grit with his signature charm.
The gameplay is centered around vehicular combat, where you battle using an array of customizable rides found throughout the world. If combat’s not your thing, you can easily opt to avoid most fights and focus purely on exploration. The game also features simple platforming challenges, which require specific vehicles to complete, lending it a light Metroidvania vibe that rewards progression.
TL;DR: I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this game. The standout features for me were the imaginative character designs and the deeply satisfying vehicle upgrade system.
Openworld post-apocalyptic game with great characters a good story based on manga by Akira Toriyama. Game is focusing on vehicular combat and offers a lot of options for upgrading them.
good game
It's a very fun game, the melee combat controls can be clunky at times, but the vehicle combat and exploration is well done. I don't know the manga, but the story is interesting so far. If you don't mind the occasional sneaking mission and melee fight and want a great customizable vehicular combat game then I recommend it. The pacing can get slow at times, but I think it's worth it.
nails the feeling of how a Toriyama tank or mech looks like it should play as
This sure was a good long Anime RPG that I recommend playing, building and upgrading vehicles was Awesome!! Thank you Akira!!
Just a realy cool and unique game
An adorable little action exploration game. If you're a fan of Akira Toriyama then you owe it to yourself to play this.
tank battle + monsters
Flawed, charming, chill, must have for any Toriyama fan
Bought this game because I loved Dragonball, and I didn't even know he had written this.
Was nice to experience this story specially after Toriyama's death.
Wholesome game, though its a bit bloaty at times, If you want to experience the main story you can easily get through it fast, and hell I'd kinda suggest it since enemies scale with you which personally feels way to limiting. Glad I stuck with normal since the chunkiness of the enemies got on my nerves though that said, most boss battles are varied and layered enough that they are enjoyable. Honestly an encyclopedia of the monsters would have been great! The world is so vast and full of life that I'm curious how it all works together.
Good game and now I'll probably buy the Mangas for my kids to read
Its what you can expect the story author from dragonballz. game was simple and fun. story abit complicated in a strange way but not too much. had my fun thru the game and the story. wishing they expanded the story more and add more land. The customization is not that many its rlly simple. but still i manage to make damage over 60k damage single hit. and the boss fight.... is medium lvl. i play too much fromsoftware game that none of the boss actually giving me struggle. and had fun cheesing the first geji dragon at lvl 13.
I recommend this provisionally. If you enjoy the storytelling of Dragonball, and are not expecting to be challenged by gameplay, I would say this certainly has something to offer. Strafing and firing from the tank unit carries you throughout the entire game. I personally was bothered by the forced stealth sections since they didn't offer much challenge, and the difficulty curve. At one point, I encountered a soft lock off of a material requirement for level 11 when I was level 8. 6/10, probably wouldn't play again.
