why does it stops working mid mission? need to restart it all.. why is it happening?
!
what a fucking shit game. Honestly the fact that this has the same name as Mass Effect 3 is a fucking disgrace. Are you fucking kidding me? i'm stuck with an adept run on therum with this armature because the only trained weapon i have is the pistol? do you expect me to fight this thing for 30 minutes? Absolute shit gameplay, it's a shame that i have to go through this game to get the full trilogy experience.
The start of a legendary sci-fi trilogy. If you like space then play this game.
Nice old school
Mass Effect remains a masterclass in emotional manipulation—convincing players they're experiencing agency while funneling them through predetermined narrative chokepoints. Its enduring popularity exposes our collective willingness to overlook technical obsolescence and corporate control mechanisms for the comfort of familiar storytelling. You don't play Mass Effect; you submit to it, granting it system privileges, and personal data, all for the privilege of reliving the same decisions you made 16 years ago.
I play these games to much for how old they are.
Crashes constantly. Was made for 32 bit OS's and cannot handle a large HDD/SSD.
So after all these years of hearing people praise this game, I finally played it. Here’s my short take:
- Great story that got me hooked and made me want to read everything in the Codex to understand it.
- Characters were good, and so was the voice acting (Garrus is my favorite to have in the party).
- Graphics were fairly good considering when it was released, but you can enhance them using the MEUITM mod.
- I appreciate the little details—for example, if you have a certain character in the party, they react differently to some missions and open up new dialogue. The planet scanning was a nice feature, with each planet having its own explanation.
- Combat aged badly. I hated it at first, but then I got used to it.
- Some minor technical problems, but the worst for me was the black blob glitch.
Overall, I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to continuing the series. 9/10
The 1st Effect is but the beginning. During the 'Early Seeking of Space Games', it was called The Final Frontier. Alas, you find yourself in the grips of space.
Pay attention and hang on, or you'll float off into the void.
Prepare for the 'flight / fight' of your life ... There are Effects on the horizon
When I first started playing Mass Effect, I was hesitant. The story didn't immediately grip me, and I was a bit bored running around the Citadel, Noveria, etc. back in 2008. Then I reached the 3rd act of the game, and I realized what a treat I was in for, and why I should care about all the lore and places. I replayed several times before Mass Effect 2 came out, which became my favorite game of all time. This whole trilogy ended up being my favorite franchise of all time.
TL;DR: Don't let the first hours fool you if you're new to Mass Effect. The game gets more and more exciting the more you learn about it.
best rpg games
You could say this game left a "Mass"-ive "Effect" on me XD!
- The story is well-paced and action-packed. Was pretty much hooked from start to finish. The choices you have to make in this game can also aid in story investment as they can be really intense and game-changing, which is awesome and terrifying!
- The dialogue is not as deep as I'd like, but it definitely serves its purpose to deliver the story
- The voice acting is fairly good, with sprinkles of voices that are downright phenomenal, or just fit the characters/setting really well.
- Downsides: how stiff the characters are during interactive scenes, which I hope the next game can hopefully deliver more fluidly. Another is how choosing nicer or meaner choices during interactions is like Russian Roulette, and you'll never know until you choose if the dialogue will come off as kind, or mean, even if you feel in your gut that the text is one or the other.
- If you want to build on the relationships with your crew, make sure to check-up on them after every mission. I was so invested in the story, that I foolishly blazed my way through the plot, and didn't talk to my crew enough, missing out on romantic options and more cohesive dialogue between members during missions, which blows (I think I even got a member killed because I didn't know them well enough to get certain dialogue to reason with them, and I'm just NOW realizing this!!) :..( .
One of the first Bioware games I've ever played. I've allways wondered why people keep saying "Bioware! Bioware!" when it comes to RPGs. So far, this game is a solid presentation of Bioware's done, and what they're other titles have in store for me. And in the eternal words of "Sonic Boom" Knuckles, "Game..Recommended!!"
Makes me weep for what has happened to the gaming industry over the last 15-20 years. We thought it could only get better.
absolutely fantastic game (ı hate planet scanning)
...sadly u cant romance the big bug turrian man in this one but jokes aside the game is absolute sinema with fantastic graphics for its time (ngl it still look absolute delicious)
id say its better to buy the legendary edition one cause it helps with a lot of little problems and bugs what this edition of the game has here
6/10 - Can't romance Garrus
overall great game
I was a little skeptical of all the praise it gets when I first started, but after the first 2 hours had passed, I was in for a pleasant surprise. This game is truly a masterpiece in storytelling. The slightly janky combat can be a turn-off for some, but the ambience and lore kept me going for the next 18 hours.
Really looking forward to playing the rest of the trilogy.
classic
This game could have been all about exploring other planets and surveying for minerals and artifacts and I would have been happy. The roleplaying and main story were a bonus.
It might be a little long in the tooth, but this game is one of the all-time greats. I'm playing it through again trying to do everything I can before moving on to the second one. I played all three games when they came out, but I'm on a quest to take the same character through all 3 games for the first time. It's so immersive and fun.
Better than people remember and a certified Bioware classic. The combat and classes are very unique, and a lot of that uniqueness gets stripped away in later entries. I adored the soldier abilities as the heat reduction + invincibility makes you feel like a walking tank that just destroys everything in it's path.
Game's not 100 gigs and doesn't require you to download EA's shitty service to launch the game that you just spent 2 hours downloading. No controller support, but that's okay. It's a lil more buggy than the Legendary Edition though. That's about the only reason I'd recommend that version over this one.
Game itself is just KOTOR but actually fun.
Very good game to escape life and remember there is more. Use Flawless Widescreen.
Tried to get the LE version but due to region ban, I got this and it did not disappoint. Some glitches are there but this game held its place through time.
Back when this series was an RPG.
So, I probably hold a minority opinion, but I find this game to be the best of this entire series.
Sure, it definitely has its flaws, and I am not defending those. Compared to what came after though, there is just so much more game here.
It's primarily a loot game - think Diablo but a third person shooter. And it is much more linear than Diablo. Also, the further you progress, the better loot ya find.
The gunplay in this game is satisfying for what it is. It is a tad on the clunky side, but I do like the rechargeable ammo mechanic. It gets really goofy later on when you get High Explosive Rounds. It's hilarious to just watch enemies get blasted into the air from a shotgun blast.
Which brings up another fun aspect to this game - gear customization. You can equip certain upgrades to your weapons and armor to assist during combat. Some make your guns have less cool down on recharge, some make your shields recharge super fast, some make your guns fire freezing, fire, or disintegrating rounds, some make your health super buffed, etc. There's a lot of customization and builds you can try that can compliment the class you choose.
I will say this though, while the game gives you the illusion of playing with biotic powers... you're better off just using guns. The biotic powers in this game just aren't fun to use. However, they do each have their own independent cooldown, so that's nice.
Speaking of negatives, there is the Mako driving segments. As others have highlighted, these can be a drag. A lot of the planets you land on will require you to drive this clunky brick through some odd landscapes that the Mako isn't really build to traverse. You'll find yourself Skyrimming up a mountain a few times.
If the Mako was more of a hovercraft and less of a rover, these segments would be more bearable. If would also help if there was more on the planets to actually explore.
People also like to pick on the Elevator loading screens in this game... I don't really mind them. They offer a moment of rest in between exploration or combat segments. Can some of them be a bit long? Eh. I guess. I never went to an elevator and thought "Jesus! This is way too slow!"
The combat works. Is it the best third-person-shooter you'll ever play. No. Pick RE4 or Vanquish for that.
Is it fun to customize your guns and blast enemies away? Oh yeah.
I also like for every enemy you kill, every objective you complete, you get XP. Really feels like your character is progressing the more you do. The leveling system is also pretty nice and decently balanced with each skill point you put in. I wouldn't say it is hard, but it does suffer from the common video gamey issue where if you play on higher difficulties, the more tanky enemies become. A lot of fights on Insanity are just wars of attrition and can make the combat really boring.
I hold the opinion that due to the Mass Effect series being more narrative focused, they honestly should not even have a difficulty select. There isn't Devil May Cry levels of depth here. It's shoot enemies, get XP, talk to person, complete quest, level up. Nothing bigger or greater.
With this series being narrative heavy, the one here is a solid set up: big evil thing coming to destroy all life in galaxy, and you need to stop it. It's simplistic, but it is engaging with how you can choose certain scenarios to play out. Characters can die. Friendships can be ruined. Monumental events can be decided by you. It's just a shame the sequels didn't really do a good job of using these decisions.
Many people praise the characters in this game and I will say there is a lot to love there. Garrus is always great as is Wrex. Tali is an enjoyable crewmate as well. Everything is well voice acted and it's mostly enjoyable to just listen to characters speak with each other. The arguments they have, the choices you can make - it's charming and endearing. You actually feel for what's going on.
This is an all around good RPG. It has its goofy quirks, but you could do so much worse (like turning the sequels into boring cover-based shooters that derail the story into stupidity).
I don't know what BioWare has planned for the future of Mass Effect, but I doubt it will ever get back to its heights here. Especially with most of the devs no longer being at BioWare anymore.
If you want a classic and goofy RPG to play in your spare time, try this game out. If this game is too arcadey for you and you desire a more streamlined experience, the sequels might be more for ya, but don't expect a lot of narrative significance there. The second game might as well be a spin off with ass-pulled relevance to the main plot here.
You might be interested in picking up the Legacy Collection they produced a few years ago - it has some QoL enhancements to this game and the modding scene also helps a lot too.
Amazing story and world building. Combat was a bit rough in the original and inventory management was a nightmare but you should still play it. ME2 is a worthy follow up. ME3 was a let down. There are no other mass effect games after that. Just Mass Effect husks.
Ranking: ME2 > ME > ME3
A fantastically built sci-fi experience, very good for its time. Can't believe I haven't played till now.
good game
I love this game, has a lot of playablity and backstory. My only gripe in there's no autosave(bad if any) and its not more popular.
Happy can finish this Game finally.
of course its good
Aside from a couple of cheese moments in the storyline, this sci-fi tale was an awesome ride. Having only just played this through for the first time, in late 2024, I was concerned that it would be too dated. Sure, the controls, graphics and camera is a little rigid, but they are all adequate enough to allow you to experience the thrilling 'choose-your-story' type of game that BioWare became fondly known for. Every line is voiced, mo-capped and valuable to the enjoyment of the game. Really high quality stuff, and there are no barriers from playing it through. No launchers, no online only, no accounts, no obtrusive EULAs. Just a fantastically made game.
17 hours to complete, and I am looking forward to playing through Mass Effect 2 following on from this. It is rare you find a game that makes you want to carry on.
10/10
I'm gonna have to downvote this game. Because by now it aged badly. lol
Trying to replay it to get another save game for the series, I found out the game isn't able to reach current day resolutions, so I'm forced to play this in a tiny window.
I suppose there's a mod for this somewhere.
It also seems to have a memory leak, or rather, can't seem to allocate the memory it requires, and crashes often due to that. This can be worked around with a program called "Large Address Aware", but obviously it seems this game is just old and done with for the devs since issues like these weren't patched.
So in terms of functionality, I guess it's just better to buy the Legendary edition, since it's released more recently and more likely to work properly on a modern PC.
It's Dec 2024 and I ran into a sale for Mass Effect 1, 2, & 3 all in a new remastered package. I never played Mass Effect before so I thought I'd check it out, but I'm using an older PC so it didn't look like it would run well. I went ahead and got Mass Effect 1. It was about $4.50 (the whole remastered package was the same price) and so far it's been a lot of fun. I'll definitely be finishing the game, at least once, and would recommend it as a great bargain.

I am only three hours in, but the game has captivated my attention with a compelling story line. I am sure that in 2007 the graphics would have seemed amazing. So far, very intriguing and I look forward to completing mky play through!
Still is awesome even in 2024
Looks good for now.
It is as good as the 2nd one which I actually played first.
One of my all-time favourites!
1 of 3 greatest games ever made!
I have completed the game only once and from that I can tell you I will return again...Game has decent graphic's for 2007. I love this franchise now. Recommend it if you like space travel and if you want to try something new.
those effects really were mass
Best Mass Effect game.
9/10
Yes.
A classic that really got me into sci-fi games back in in the day, and will always have a place in my heart. The age on ME1 really shows as far as the graphics go, but the morality system, overall story, and the characters are absolutely worth it every time. A must play for anyone who enjoys RPGs as far as I'm concerned, though the Legendary Edition might be a better way to experience the whole trilogy now =))
Though the game is old, which shows in the graphics and gameplay, it is still playable mechanic wise, and has a really amazing story, as well as character set.
Though I could gush over the two dialogue options of Renegade and Paragon, I won't, I will instead insist, that if you are looking for a fun and entertaining game, (which is actually complete and not a bug filled mess like modern games, with a lack of story or character in fact if there is any) than Mass effect 1 might be a game for you.
good game
30 Minutes in and we got our first crash. Rather poor mechanics but gotta give it some slack as its from 2007, still probably wont return to this
Игры похожие на Mass Effect (2007)
