Selected by the fickle finger of fate, Abe™, floor-waxer first class for RuptureFarms, was catapulted into a life of adventure when he overheard plans by his boss, Molluck the Glukkon™, to turn Abe and his fellow Mudokons into Tasty Treats as part of a last-ditch effort to rescue Molluck's failing meat-packing empire.
During his escape from RuptureFarms, Abe received a vision from the mysterious Big Face, showing Abe that he must not only rescue his fellow Mudokons, but also protect all of Oddworld's creatures from the predatory Magog Cartel.
After completing arduous Temple trials, and journeying across a wasteland with his friend Elum, Abe was granted the awesome power of the Shrykull. Returning to RuptureFarms, Abe destroyed the foul slaughterhouse, rescued his buddies, and brought down some righteous lightning on top of Molluck's pointy head.

its sigma game
Exactly like i remember it from PS from a was a kid!! ^^
Follow me!
I know its a classic, but this game is a unique kind of torture. Very trial-by-death gameplay that i just don't have the patience for. The world is interesting, and the characters are kind of funny, but I get the feeling this was a big hit at the time because of its graphics. Without that to wow you these days, you are left with a torturous experience of dying again and again and again...
(1) incredibly difficult but it doesnt feel difficult on purpose like some modern games, thats just what it was back in the day. the game does make you die without technically anything you can do about it sometimes but f it (5) it does have some savestate bugs here and there but nothing too bad. controls are weird to figure out, some like running roll x, holding space, run jumping, run jumping on ledges ect are needed to solve some things and for whatever reason the use button gets unbound everytime i boot the game so i had to set it everytime before playing. the start feels way too hard and unfair but you get the hang eventually and it becomes very very fun to figure out the stages. dont give up!! (0) music and visuals are beautiful and abe is charming, i love the menu in this game lol OK. i think this is one of those games that you want to complete twice and thats what im gonna go and do now, a second run and this time ill try to save all of them. goodbye (77777777777)
It's just as fun as I remember when it first came out
Great game!
One of the least fun games I've ever played. Apparently Exodus is better, but this one just actually sucks. It's trial and error gameplay that eats up a ton of time and it just drives you mad. The art is great, the story and characters are great, but the gameplay is genuinely terrible.
Abe's Oddyssee is awesome but frakking hard, completed on the playstation! 10/10
Still one of my favorite games, the game ran okay for me but there were times where the game did crashed on me. Also compared to the ps1 version I had to press the gamespeak commands longer for the game to register my inputs so it kinda messed with my muscle memory.
I didn’t use the relive mod but I’ll probably use that for my next playthrough when revisiting this game. Still highly recommend this game for a challenging experience.
Port has fucked controller support, not worth until there's native XB1 controller support
An idea that's been lost in modern game design is that obtuse controls are the key to the success of certain games. The obvious example is the once beelined tank controls of survival horror games. The balance of agency between player and enemy has never been more tense than Resident Evil. When the series abandoned tank controls it immediately led to a more action focused approach because the limitations in movement were integral to the fear. Beyond explicit horror games, some early sidescrollers like Castlevania are criticized for their stiffness and limitations. Paradoxically these limitations are what makes older games so compelling to me. As long as they're consistent, a strict set of rules can narrow the focus of a title to its core essence. Games like Castlevania proved early on that making progression feel more like a puzzle than strictly a test of twitch reflexes could yield interesting results. It's like a closed system, when options are limited mastery is feasible.
I think this principle is best seen in the niche Cinematic Platformer genre that followed in Castlevania’s cinematic ambitions. In these games stiff deliberate controls build character. Not only in how they narrow the focus of gameplay to its core elements, but also in how they present more detailed animations. A good example is a character like Abe from Abe's Odyssey. The deliberate nature of Abe's movement characterizes him as gentle. He requires a certain finesse and careful planning to make it through the screens. While Abe’s basic movement is limited to running, grabbing ledges, and jumping, he has 8 different communication abilities that can be used at any time using the number keys. Despite the limited movement options this sound bar brings its own unique sense of player expression, the game’s manual even encourages such creativity. In turn the player deduces that Abe is skilled at communicating, but physically sluggish and mostly defenseless. You could even tie this to the throughline of Abe being an unlikely hero. He brings the Mudokons together, but is no mightier than the creatures he saves.
The richness of unwieldy controls is part of why I gravitate towards older less polished titles. More control is not explicitly a positive trait, not every game needs to be Super Mario Bros. Instead of standardizing controls and conveniences between games I think developers should whittle down what the heart of their design actually is and evaluate how controls should feel accordingly.
Oddworld was in the right place at the right time. If we go back 5 years earlier games couldn't have look like this. The rich immersive details accomplished with pre-rendering had not yet developed, only now being perfected with the PS1 generation. If we travel 5 years later, besides the Resident Evil remake pre-rendering was discarded in pursue of real time effects. Games in general were striving to escape the trial and error approach of old school game design. Unfortunately the core traits which made Oddworld so special were on the way out. Fortunately this mix of 2D design principals, and 3D ambition makes Oddworld worth playing to this day. The game is a masterpiece.
I like the dark environment and the comedic scenes. That's what made the game good in the first place.
Will always love a classic like Oddworld. Grew up with this game the mechanics, difficulty, animations, secrets and art style blew me away and still do.
Back in a time where developers weren't afraid to have really nice challenging game.
9/10 only because you're limited to controlling Sligs this game. (I really loved being able to control all the different creatures in the sequel, that and being able to escort more than One Mudoken at a time)
If you need to scratch that 1997 itch, or at the least experience it, or if you just don't want to spend the money on New & Tasty, then get this game. Although it says otherwise, game will work with a controller. (Logitech)
Highly recommend New & Tasty as well.
Cinematics are stuttering and no wide screen.
Releasing a classic like this which was originally on Playstation 1 with such poor controller support is criminal.
a great port from the old 97 title, you play as the goofball of the floor waxer nobody called Abe, a worker for the Meat grinding Corperation known as "Rupture Farms" discovering the new but alarming new product that is upcoming our frightful hero desides to escape. unknown to him he will become something more with a up coming destiny!
a interesting take on a 2d puzzle action side scroller with fantastic FMV cutscenes of the time telling the story. beautiful background environments. action controlled music giving the sense of danger or wonder. save them or take out the fellow workers in random grim but hilarious ways. dealing with threats or dangers in more than one way. if a retro gamer then highly recommend this fantastic legend of a game!

SAVE THE MUDOKONS. ALSO ABE IS PEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The game doesn't work, whenever I press "up" in a specifically intense situation it doesn't work.
I'm terrible at sidescrollers and certainly terrible at Oddworld, but damn if I don't love this game. I tend to prefer Abe's Exoddus but this is such a classic for me.
Love this game, but this port is horrible. You cannot configure the controls, and it doesn't even support controllers. Very disappointed
such a lovely game. check for remaster also.
“Follow me.”
“Okay.”
My first ever game played. <3
I loved watching my dad play this as a kid and now love playing it myself!
this is a great platformer with a ton of TLC! the backgrounds and themes are iconic! the games take patience and good timing so don't play if your prone to rage quitting lol.
Best platformer ever made. The story, the sounds, the atmosphere, the vibes, the characters, everything about it is pure greatness. Made in the golden era of gaming.
I love this game, but having played the ps1 version and the pc version, I must say that the ps1 version is superior. This is especially true when used with emulators that allow quicksaving, as it makes for a much better experiance for newcomers. I do not recommend this, but only because you should be emulating the ps1 version, especially if you can use emudeck, it's amazing!
I've been playing this game since I got it with a Packard Bell computer a long time ago. It's one of my all time favorites.
6/10
the game is brilliant, always loved it going through it once again.
highly recommend it
Yes

such a classic!! my only caution is that the controls are very old. i wish they would update that part so its a little more modern. otherwise 9/10 game <3
Worst game and watch console
Loved this game when I was younger. Glad I can play it again. Lots of fun no matter how much I play :)
Graphics and game play are great even today.
An Oddworld for Oddpeeps...
Nostalgia hits hard... with a chair to the face. Didn't remember games use to be hard.
perfect game
This is such a good puzzle platformer! The controls are a little wonky, so if you don't like this genre this probably won't change your mind. But it's a great game for those that like this kind of thing
Seems cool at first but becomes really gruelling quickly. The controls are not responsive enough for what the game demands from the player. Pretty much unplayable.
One of the best puzzle platformers ever created; a game where challenges for the brain and challenges for the fingers seamlessly flow into each other to create a unique and incredibly engaging gameplay loop. Loads of rewarding secrets to find, diverse locations to explore and beautifully designed environments to look at.
The setting is highly unique as well: a sort of a half-dystopian, half-satirical allegory of extreme corporate exploitation, full of unusual creatures, memorable set pieces and thought-provoking analogies. The atmosphere is so thick you can cut it with a knife, and the way every new area continues to meaningfully develop the world is a real joy to see.
Even though a remake exists now, I think this game is worth experiencing in its original form regardless of what might be said about that remake’s quality. It really feels like a complete piece of art, lo-res and all. And the sequel is even better, so be sure to play that one too.
the controls are wonky sad cause i love this game
Great game with amazing visuals, characters and story. A timeless classic!
Frustrating that this game doesn't have controller support considering it is a port from console...
a Green (or Blue) guy asking me to Follow me . . . yeah sure why not xD everywhere is better then that place xD
Always be my Number 1 Childhood Game!! - Thank you!
It's not a completely perfect port: the controls are a little wonky compared to the Playstation version, and there are sometimes framerate issues when you go to the background of a screen from the foreground. There is a workaround for the issues with the FMV, though to be honest I've seen all these videos so many times I basically have them memorized anyway. Audio glitches can usually be fixed by pressing esc then returning to the game. These are all small problems at the end of the day however, Oddworld remains an all-time great platformer, and at this price you really can't go wrong!
The 90s had some seriously weird auteur stuff slip through the cracks, and thank god. Such a strange, unique world that holds up to this day, except for the really nasty controls, which pretty much on their own make the game really hard. If you're prepared for a frustrating puzzle platformer, the story and atmosphere takes care of the rest. I still quote the cutscenes to this 20 years after playing it
