- Build your castle. Find a good place to place your keep and build defenses around it. You can place walls, gates and towers. Position your archers on them to shoot enemies at night.
- Gather resources. You will have to manage the economy of your city. Gather resources to build new buildings and to maintain your workers and army.
- Train an army. Train your troops so that you will be ready to meet the enemy at night. You can also upgrade your troops with a new shining armor in the armory.
- Expand your city. Capture more territories to get access to new resources. Build more houses to have a place for new people. More workers will be able to create a better economy and sustain a bigger army. There are some production chains. All of that will making you busy during the day
- Siege engines. Trebuchets and ballistas can help to protect your castle. You can place them on top of towers. Make sure you have enough ammo for them to shoot.
- Survive a siege. Each night you are being attacked by moon monsters, the more your play the more powerful is their attack. How long can you survive? Enemies can have rams or siege towers to break through walls.

great and fun game with a load of content
it was fun for a bit but updates are slow and no workshop so just get it on sale
its a fun game
great game, but it need some serious optimization
i love
its very fun and relaxing but it would be cool to see steam workshop with this game, there could be some very cool ideas with the steam workshop.
ive played for a little bit but when i tried to load in my world it keeps zooming in and out a lot and i cant do anything. if this would stop then it would definitely be a good game.
Fun game to play when you wanna just chill and build a civilization.
I JUST LIKE IT
Lotta fun very stress relieving love this game for a good relaxation from high stress games
This is a brilliant little game. It took a few games to work out the optimal strategy, and learning from my mistakes, with each run becoming better and I could last longer and longer. I am now in to the end game, and have some big armies attacking my fortress of a castle; and it's brilliant, and epic. I can't wait to see how else this game will expand.
the game is a blast to play i enjoy it very much. biggest problem i keep having with it is unit pathing really aggravating when they do not path right on walls and towers, and when it happens you pretty much lost the map.
This game has no warnings that the second you hit winter you are fucked without a charcoal maker. Even if you build one the day of the game bugs out and no people want to work the charcoal maker. Its a serious issue and it killed a fun run i had going. :(
Great game, everything you want from a single player RTS that has a nightly defense mode. Keep you on your toes and the progression is paced nicely.
Really buggy - The longer you play the worse the performance gets, suggesting poor memory management - the game will frequently crash if too many events occur at once, and upon reload, the state of certain walls and buildings doesn't match the original save point.
Had fun
This game deserves way more attention than it gets. there's a lot of neat little things in this game that really ties it all together, and can be quite a challenge.
i finished the game in 2 hours, its good
Fun simple game with a fun building mechanic, maybe more weapons we can use on towers?
great game for a refresher
yes
very calming and a good break from the loud shooters of most games
List of things that would possibly make this way more entertaining for those of us with Castle like fantasies.
1) Custom Map editor that is easy to use, can easily adjust terrain creating Valley like pathing and open fields for easy housing and industrialization areas that will not prohibit pathing of army movement, as well as being able to over populate resources so we aren't struggling endlessly with the inflation market purchasing masses of stone/iron/food in droves to feed our continuous advancement of size/Quantity of village and or army/blacksmith needs.
2) being able to place excess stone/iron mines onto the map for random map pretty sure it caps both at 4... can we get like 10? lol seriously all of us are thinking the same thing. possibly having them in clusters to boot so they aren't in the 4 corners of the world would actually be really nice.
3) after Level 5 of units they should be able to advance to level 6 giving them "heroic abilities" - Archer 5x range snipe, knight - shockwave cleave, sword&shield - Unity (all nearby melee units share damage mitigation equally within range) Spearman - Sundering thrust Straight line aoe hit similar to shockwave going in a line rather than to left and right of strike.
- Limit 1 per stack of 100. as that'd be OP if there were more.
4) Monster spawning seems to have lag later in the period? as in they spawn and don't move under fire of archers, because of all the commands going on in the back ground(my guess-based on all RTS styled games command flow is limited computation ability in many of the base engines used to make them isn't entirely dependent on PC specs FYI I can plan sc2 on high quality while maintaining 50 FPS minimum).
Basically to my understanding there's to much pathing of civilians in background causing command stuttering in the games command diagnostic system creating a serious lag that isn't a screen stutter but a command/action stutter. - Recommendation -
(make workers automated placement on everything that isn't a resource search for example - ranch, wheat field, iron/stone/gold mines, butchers, fishermen, herbalist. Make them upon night/date teleport to and from work station and maintain a static position to reduce command overflow/Unit animation for game optimization. - Note it does look nice and cool but it's breaking the game unfortunately reducing the difficulty of later game play hindering the experience offered.
Only needed animations would be for hunter hut/ Sawmill as those two are an active resource searching production facility. Would try to reduce pathing for non combat orientated units as much as possible as they are just an economic representative hindering game play in late stage.
- Note, also Issue with units mounting wall locations and Tower positions as once a unit gets into position its deemed an impassible object by remaining units looking for positioning. Very unfriendly for large army management that is essentially required as difficulty ramps up from days passing. Also can be fought against by making as many "stairs" as possible but the units pathing when sending them in the group identifies the shortest location trying to allocate all the movement to a single point, which in turn creates a blockade inside the "ramparts" in Towers and blocks movement on the "stairs"
Overall game is pretty entertaining, and gets my Inner Castle Junkie fix for defensable location positioning and army composition. If fixes can be made for pathing/command stuttering I'd give it a solid 8 out of 10. Previous suggestions are simply my inner nerd screaming I want to make LOTR based Castles and Historical based Castles in this game. If it does go up for map editor I'd love to see workshop introduced onto your store page for everyone to share their love for LORE and challenges! But please put in an update earlier spawning in more RSS nodes before working on a big project XD - I beg ya
Very charming and enjoyable experience with surprising depth. Can't beat the price. If you enjoy city builders with a healthy dose of combat, this is your pick.
An excellent little castle defense game.
Similar to Kingdoms and Castles but with a bit more emphasis on battle and wave survival, but lighter on the city-building options. That said I was pleasantly surprised by the city building aspect since I expected little to none.
It's very fun to watch your little castle on a hill build up and get stronger while fending off enemies that scale at a challenging but manageable rate.
It still has its issues.
-A lot of the interface feels like it's missing information and tooltips are terribly written so it's confusing when starting out.
-It's hard to understand basic stats for units like ammo for siege weapons or the level/status of troops. I was left wishing that there was more granularity on troop control; an true RTS this is not.
-It also has some pretty bad individual soldier AI, where lots of times swordsman will just be standing there in the heat of battle or sometimes randomly withdraw back to the lines despite having an enemy in their face.
Nevertheless a strong recommend overall.
I see a ton of potential to grow here, where you could add a whole 'nother layer of magic-imbued structures/defense (like some magic stone fourth-tier wall) and weaponry to match. But devs should definitely focus on fixing some of the annoying issues mentioned above first.
Fun!
Civ + Castle Story-style RTS
Very fun!
It's a fun game and a fun concept. However, there are several bugs especially with troop movement that makes it hard to play sometimes.
Hello devs i want to say sisns 2021 this game is so fun and a bit confusing at the start and i have played this game what 46 hours its like manner lords and a very simple have a baby and is still my favorite chiby strategy defend strategy game
good game
Really like this game, looks great on high settings. My laptop isn’t struggling at all, but recently the game seems to randomly crash after night 1, or when placing walls.
This should totally be made for MacOS too / AppStore.
.
wont save
I came back to this game because I liked it so much in its early days. I poured 57 hours into it. But now it crashes on day four without fail.
Me likey shooty guys <:)
Value - $9 (USD 2024)
It's a game that screams "portfolio piece number 5."
It's a great game for a college team with no budget. There are glitches with walls, towers, explosions, and lightning.
Game itself is great for early access, but development has stopped so its never going to get a simple bugfix, or new features. Its barebones on a great foundation. Shame the developers stopped making a game with so much promise. It's worth the money IF the game were ever to leave beta. As is it's a waste of money.
Amazing castle-builder!
What I like:
- Cool art style
- Super easy to learn
- Very convenient (good QoL)
- No annoyances like resources running out or difficulty placing walls due to crowding or stuff like that. In this game the resources just repawn, which I like!
Where there is room for improvement:
- When you build buildings too close to cliffs, your soldiers can get stuck there
- When I want to scroll down on the menu that lets me assign villagers to certain tasks, it keeps scrolling me up
- Manually having to rebuild destroyed ruins is annoying. Just let the building guild do that just like they do with the regular repairs
- Enemy pathing can be a bit annoying; sometimes they want to run a kilometer around my castle because they see a weak spot, so you are chasing them down for 2 minutes...
- I couldn't really get enough stone for the first 5 hours of my game, but other than that, the game is very well balanced!
What I would like to see:
- The castle walls look a bit minimalistic, which makes them seem kind of artificial if you have a lot of them, so let plants grow up the walls and towers here and there as these structures get older.
I got the game then didnt like it asked for a refund and i only got three dollars back.steam?
Although this is not radically different from many castle building games, this sonehow has me hooked. Could do with a mini-map though.
Awesome game! Build that castle, raise those towers, and destroy your enemies! Worth it!
game is good but it gets boring and repetitive, building unlock fast and after that nothing. I will buy it again after devs implament more things to do, balance other things etc. 6/10
Honestly, a really cool game, but the developers for one reason or another, have stopped updating the game despite many bugs still being prevalent and content that was previously teased not being released. I don't know for certain, but I think this has to do with the Ukraine war since the developers were based there. I hope they are doing well and get around to working on this fun little game again.
Super fun and simple city builder, with enough depth to make multiple runs alot of fun with how buildings and upgrades interact with eachother
Overall fun. Pathing issues detract from the mid-late game.
Its a little like false advertising, as you dont get to customize your castle, Its a put and place.
When it comes to castle defense games, Becastled stands out from all the others. I originally found the game through RCE, 3 YEARS AGO, and it has been my turn to game when ever classes start getting a bit too stressful.
All in all a really good and fun turn based strategy game, this game as per most has many pros and cons. Its really good fun for a few hours and does genuinely get harder with each difficulty and terrain variant, however any late game stages are still quite buggy when you get past day 20 or so and have a massive siege force and defence force troops and defences start breaking and the game kinda just dies. Aside from that though the game concept and style is incredible, graphics are really well put together and the devs do really seem to try to be bettering the game, ive had the game since it was first out and a lot has changed and been improved since then and it is only getting better! (trust me those early days were insanely buggy and hilarious with some units dying for no reason, taverns happiness was not range dependant, villagers would just refuse to work etc etc, twas dark times, however as i say the game has come a long way since then with the main bug now being late game everything else has been fixed and there's so much more going on these days in game).
So if you love turn based simulation games this game in my opinion is ideal for a good bit of fun and on higher difficulty to really put your strategy skills to the test!
Simple straight forward economy that doesn't get in the way of the real star: building castle walls and putting as many archers on them as you can. Every night is helms deep as you defend you ever growing pallisades.
Looking forward to more from the devs as they flesh out the core systems and add options to castle construction and trap design. All the foundations are here for a wonderful classic.
