I was addicted to The Last Stand series of games back when they were on Flash. This is such a great call-back to those. Expect to die a lot at first.
Great game!!! Super addictive!
it is a fun little game. good for passing time.
I like Roguelite games but I hate it when the games like this rushes you to hurry up by using a infection meter as you're timer. if you waist too much time then you die.
9.5/10
Quite a fun roguelike once you can understand its mechanics.
Pretty fun, has not had content or any other kinds of update since 2022 and the news tab on the steam page says nothing about any other plans. The game does have a pretty lengthy "story" and a decent amount of progression.
It is a good game, but i would recommend getting it on sale.
A stain to the series.
Pro (?):
- The name
Okay:
- Okay gameplay
- Okay ambient
- Okay gun sound
Bad:
- Gameplay loop is too punishing, lots of my death are due to stupid accident rather than "not strong enough"
- After each death, you have to start from the start, artificially increasing the difficulty for no reason
- Lack of story. The series isn't strong in story, but this one give you a huge premise that lead no where, it would be much better if they stick to the basic story instead of this underwhelm conspiracy
Highly Recommend.
Adds Unique Mechanics to a zombie roguelite, where the infection progresses and as it does it enhances your abilities each time but if it hits the max you die. Which is original aspect to the infection mechanic where you get perks and theres cons.
The weapons are vast and the environments are both eerie grotesque, but beautiful with the graphics shown.
theres times i have fun mowing down zombies like john wick, but then also sneaking around to scavenge for loot.
This is one of my ALL time favorite zombie games.
Recommending this one...with an Asterisk. It's buggy. 'Oh, there's a shop in the next map!' 1/10 times, there isn't. And the plateaus are annoying. Zombie on high, but you have LoS? You have to bring them to the same plain as you to hit them, on occasion. Oh, and lobby explosives needs work. I'm at the end of the game (no spoilers) and I toss an explosive. It goes into orbit, and isn't seen again...until it's magically in front of me and bomb end of run. Get it on sale. A fun weekend run.
A decent, atmospheric survival game for what it costs. And unlike other zombie survival games, makes guns just as viable as melee weapons. A unique perspective also that you're playing as an infected person, who is destined to die no matter what you do.
Combat is a bit janky outside of flat terrain, and I still don't like that there's no mode to start with no infection at all, but overall, its very Last Stand like the old Flash games.
actual great rougelike, it does the old flash games justice. it can be all or nothing in a single run so be prepared to rage.
Its fun but the end of the campaign has a really BS boss fight that has frankly made me not want to play again. I still think it's worth it but that segment is really Fking annoying not gonna lie so if you're the kind of person that can't handle unfair feeling boss fights then take that into consideration.
A good game if you're willing to put up with some jank. Still fun tho.
Very enjoyable.
Some areas you can get stuck(a lot more in the water areas) & walking up stairs is wonky, please fix!
It's so smple, yet so complicated that it's entertaining. I'll play this game fir a while lmao, plainning on 100% it
It's nothing like Dead Zone. They're trying to sell you on the nostalgia for Dead Zone but this is soooooooooooooooo much worse.
Would give a mixed recommendation if I could. Decent enough for $10, wouldn't pay a cent more than that. Plays like a more serious-toned Death Road to Canada. Unity Store asset flip aesthetic. Poor UI text, bad grammar and incomplete sentences everywhere. Weird design decisions, like re-introducing quest objectives later as run-killing traps with no indication that they are now bad. Weight system makes absolutely no sense. Janky BamHam melee combat that can get you killed by focusing on dead bodies instead of enemies actually hitting you. Terrain generation is awful. Some impassable-looking terrain can be crossed over no problem, certain waist-high fences can be mantled, some can't. Plenty of random ditches to fall into that you can't get out of with no unstuck feature. Shooting is only directly ahead of your character, so anyone on a gentle incline is immune to bullets. Will give you compass directions to find quest objectives with no indication of north. Really, was having a bit of fun despite all this until the gas can I needed to progress was completely unable to be interacted with because it spawned halfway inside of a gentle slope. Then proceeded to get stuck, and the only option is to quit to menu and start the map over. Quit to menu and uninstalled instead.
I remember playing through Last Stand Union City countless times in the computer lab back in high school. In my opinion it was one of the greatest flash games ever. This game took everything great about that game and cranked it to another level. Great job Con Artist on delivering another awesome game!
Only recommended on sale. It's a great top-down zombie rougelite survival with decent replayability for the price.
You just have to be careful not to get stuck. From stuff like stilts that are designed too close to the wall, infection traps in corridors.
Controls require some getting used to, you attack at the direct your mouse click against your survivors' position. Not too difficult.
You can only do bodyshots, so if you aim for a headshot, your survivor will actually aim at the space next to the zombie.
Crafting usefulness is limited after a few "rounds". Crafting a makeshift gun only to find a proper one in the next map makes it redundant very quickly.
Decent for the price if on sale
a good rogue-like in zombie survival setting. (almost) randomly generated maps and routes, good balance between loot, time crunch and zombie pressure.
I've sunk 22 hours in first 2 days, would recommend.
Been a fan of the series since the begginning. It's a very addictive game that could make you play it non-stop.
Would love a DLC or more content added, I feel it has a lot of potential
I'm not really into roguelikes and mostly played this because I played the originals from the flash era but it was still pretty enjoyable. Some minor bugs here and there but nothing serious. 7/10
Would be good but the game mechanics are absolutely garbage none of your skills feel like they are going anything. Zombies spawn in the air and attack you and can damage you, you can go 6 areas without food water infection resistance ammo or weapons. What are you doing with your RNG guys, its so trash needs a complete rework..... then maybe the game will be enjoyable but rn just feels like Im wasting my time not even enjoying a finish game. GARBAGE.
Update: Even worst then I thought got into a bunker area of the map "part of the campaign" and had to fight an armored tank. Never got a grenade launcher so im trying to use grenades and the game mechanic that allows you to throw grenades doesn't recognize the inside of the bunker as part of the game and thinks your trying to throw the grenade outside of the map! In the process of doing this I glitch through the map and the zombies as well and while the game is spazzing out and glitching the zombies are killing me. I some how kill them all just to realize that some of the zombies glitched through the ground and inhibits from continuing the campaign because it wants me to kill all the zombies............ REMOVE THE GAME FULL RELEASE ITS CLEARLY STILL IN ALPHA.
If you like zombies, and roguelites/run based games whatever it's a good game
A solid zombie shooter. Reasonably intuitive. Immersive world. Fun grind. Recommended.
Honestly not bad overall but just would've been better as a co op game.
I recommend if you are okay with what you are getting with this game. Overall, I disliked rogue lites, so I don't like the repetitiveness of the game. But, in spite of that, it's interesting enough that it kept my attention for around 10 hours before I had enough. There are some annoy things about the games that other reviews cover very well, but overall I think it does enough right for me to recommend. 6.5/10
The game is worth playing for the achievements, it's pretty challenging and is worth a lot of game hours for a SP game. I wish there was multiplayer as after completing the game and getting all the achievements there's not much else in the store for the game.
Obliterates almost 600 zeds including special one, proceeds to get killed by a trap,TWICE
peak comedy
good
will leave the cat here, so that everybody who passes by can pet it and give it a thumbs up and awards

This game is a combination of States of Decay and Hades, but with a time limit. States of Decay for scavenging, crafting, ammo management and highly optional "stealth". Hades for the type of roguelike. So, if you want Hades with zombies, this is it. I have many complaints about the game, but minor enough to still find it enjoyable.
"Stealth":
Since the game has a soft time limit, you don't have the luxury of taking your time with stealth. Ammo and meds are plentiful, there's no point in avoiding conflicts. More so because you gain xp from it. Also, there's no stealth kills. Not that it matters since zombies spawn in groups. So, if you expect stealth to be a core mechanic, be disappointed. It's more gun and run.
Melee combat:
Pre-upgrades, you will find yourself targeting and charging the backlines quite often. This will very likely leave you vulnerable in the middle of a small horde of sprinters with no more stamina. So you will find melee useless. Post-upgrades, you will still target backlines, but you have better stamina, better damage (100%), better weapons and can one shot enemies. So, melee turns from desperation to mandatory especially in the final zone.
Something very curious is that melee actually cancels out zombies' melee. To understand what I mean, sprinters will sprint towards you, make a wind-up attack so it hits you right after approaching you. However, if you queue a melee attack first, they will sprint and stop in front of you to get hit. This makes two-handed weapons with long-windup superior at crowd clearing.
Ranged combat:
The game is noticeably designed for controllers, since aiming is extremely lenient and bullets will auto traject itself into the closest enemy. This compensates for the fact it's an isometric game and it's hard to know where to aim. 90% of the time, it's extremely useful. 10% of the time, you will aim for a backline zombie, but the bullets redirect themselves into an armored zombie which does nothing. Also, the game handles elevation very poorly. If the enemy is higher or lower than you, better pray you hit their head or feet. This is especially funny if you aim for hunters which have a small stature, you will miss most of the time.
Fire:
Fire is worthless. Molotovs have a small range and will affect only 2-3 zombies, the alcohol is better used for medkits. Flare guns are hazardous to yourself if you fire at melee range, somehow. And you do not want to be set on fire. But if you do, you can roll 3 times to put it out. But you will easily run out of stamina without upgrades so just avoid fire. Still, it's rarely worth the risk even if fire strips armor. It's just better to run past or melee them(Even juggernauts).
Explosive:
Grenades and can bombs are decent if you want to save some ammo. But avoid grenade launchers like the plague, it takes a few shots to kill juggernauts, only one to deplete your entire full healthbar. There's a lot of terrain and actually threatening zombies will sprint towards you, so it's extremely easy to blow yourself up. There's no upgrades to negate explosive damage, but there are upgrades to kill yourself easier. So yes, it's less dangerous to attack a juggernaut with a butter knife than using grenade launchers.
Meta progression:
XP is something you gain while looting and killing zombies. This is important since weapon drops are tied to your level, not region. So, in your first run, you can only find revolvers, grenade launchers and terrible melee weapons no matter what you do. It allows you to unlock certain recipes which make melee combat viable.
Upgrades are mandatory if you are playing the game non-competitively. For instance, backpack capacity allows you to carry better guns, more ammo and improvised melee weapons(They can be extremely good but weighs a lot). Stamina upgrades allow you to swing your weapons a lot more, run across the map and will virtually never run out of stamina. Damage and durability upgrades turn melee from useless to overpowered. 100% more chance to find ammo and better damage allows you to one shot zombies and rarely run out of ammo.
What I'm trying to say is, this comparison makes Hades objectively better than this game as a roguelike. Upgrades in Hades will never make your character overpowered, it is the knowledge (attack patterns and synergies) and skill that makes you good at the game. This game however, relies heavily on meta progression. Then again, it doesn't matter that much to me since the game is still fun.
is this game good? yes, is it as good as deadzone? NO!
.
It's fine. Was hoping for more depth, but I think something like State of Decay 2 does just about everything here better.
I've taken a leisurely 26 hours to 100% this game. Its fun, the game play loop is solid and addicting, and the reward/upgrading system is well built and satisfying. The only small downside is melee combat. Critical hits are satisfying and the gun-play is decent, but the melee combat felt a little clunky, enemies phase through your hits and the player turns a completely different direction to try and hit a targeted enemy. If you can look past that, its well worth the money, especially on sale.
Just started to playing it i will give some inputs and edit them as i go:
I feel that sprinting while crouching is needed for immersion, foi a quick switch when you about to be spotted;
When you vault something while crouching you should stay crouch, after that;
Should be able to stomp zombies when they are on the ground;
Very interesting game, if only they could open the workshop so that people can make mods for it, I believe that would even make the game better
this game is a lot of fun. it's difficult at the beginning, but once you collect some knowledge and learn some skills (which pass on to your next players), the runs start getting easier. just be wise with how you use your knowledge and supplies
Meh
Big fan of last stand 1, 2 and Union City. Remember trying the demo during a steam next fest and had a lot of fun. Like two years later, I finally got around to playing the full version. Played a good enough amount to have formed some opinions. I've played mostly on pc and a bit on deck. For some reason this game as always been listed as "unsupported", even though it is playable. However, it does not perform as well as I'd expect a game of this nature or visual quality to run.
Overall:
Very addictive and defo worth a play. BUT, there is a lot of jank/lack-of-polish could cost you a run or two.
Pros:
- Highly addictive rogue-like gameplay. It's dangerous how many hours I want to actually clock-in on this game. I've got to the point where My longest run is about 1:40 hours and I felt like I wanted to keep playing. Scavenging for stuff, filling up fuel, getting supply boxes and fending off hordes from HERC buildings just gives me a hefty dopamine hit.
- The mutation system is actually pretty great. It can lead to scenarios where you either deliberately reduce your health bar and take the perks that come if that, or you try to make a run as clean as possible so that you have a good amount of health for the final area's. It allows for some additional tactics on a run. However, it can be pretty tense when you only have one or two bars of health left because of the mutations.
- The plot is fairly light, but I'm finding the world building quite interesting.
Cons:
-Collision sometimes sucks. For some reason I can't walk through certain doorways or gaps because the collision decides so. This can occasionally lead to taking unnecessary damage.
-The gunplay seems to freak out when enemies are on a different elevation to you such as jumpers who are constantly crouched down, or zombies on slopes/hills. Shots will just miss more frequently with these enemies, and it can leave the gun combat feeling unreliable.
-To whoever decided that the barely visible insta-kill shotguns were a good idea: I hate you. I wish they would remove them, but it seems like the devs haven't updated the game in a while.
-The game is pretty ugly at points. I remember noting in the demo that the character models and portraits are absolutely hideous, and it seems like that hasn't been fixed. Additionally there are a fair few visual bugs such as floating zombies or the character model clipping through the car.
Highly recommend this game, for those who played the old games from the Con Artist and for those who are new to this game.
The game feels easy and challenging to play,at lower levels and first 2 locations everything seems to be relatively easy, after unlocking new location the game will slowly get more intense and harder, every new location will require good feeling of the game and fast reaction,as well as good planning.
The death in this game is a ordinary thing, the death is imminent and it's mostly a matter of time and skill until you will have to start a new run with a new survivor.
The base where you start every run have a variety of NPC's which stories are crossed with the main character of the old games,in this game is actually explained through dialogs what happened after ending of the "The Last Stand: Union City".
Every new run will gives us a pool of survivor we can choose from.
The game now have skills that are beneficial addon to the gameplay.
Now we can also buy new items and survivor classes.
By bringing more supplies to the car we drive every run we are making point that will be useful every new run.
The game have new enemies types in comparison to the old games, and every enemy have variations,Tank gets armor and some infected are getting faster and harder to kill
The have bad sides tho, sometimes the enemies can be invisible,at first locations it's not a huge deal, but dying at almost the end by an invisible tank feels unfair and frustrating.
After unlocking the last location the game feels super repetitive, and after boss fight the game is basically grinding to the the needed achievements.
I had a really great time playing this game and was glad to see there was more to explore after I (just!) beat the main quest line. The sense of progression and learning as I played was really refreshing. By the end, I felt comfortable making strategic decisions about runs and experimenting with different loadouts to handle what my previous volunteers discovered. Losing runs is just the right amount of frustrating to never make me feel like I want to quit completely. The art and music are just great. Random sounds and music from the game pop into my head lol. Aside from a few rare issues around movement (especially on stairs), the core mechanics are solid including the . Nothing feels unfair (once you learn about it :), don't be afraid of starting new runs! Volunteers help volunteers. You'll do it faster and better next time). It's a natural extension of the previous games (which I also highly recommend). If you like roguelites, zombies, and exploration, give it a go!
Very fun and addicting game. It's deceptively simple, it can get pretty difficult at times. Traps are annoying though and achievements have been buggy, so beware!
6/10. Fun but repetitive. would be 10/10 if they added a grappling hook and gambling
ez game
Fun rogue-like experience. Can hope in and lose endless hours. Great time killer knowing it saves automatically after every new location I reach.
I like how varied each run can be and that there's usually a strategy for each situation.
I dislike how it's not a 100% finished game (but it's definitely close). There's issues like grenades sometimes exiting the map ceiling when thrown indoors and how the character sometimes gets stuck trying to go up stairways.
Great game
