honestly, im almost clocking at 1 hour into this game and it's really really fun! I think the only issue is that it won't launch unless you have a manhunt fixer. overall it's a fun game would 100% speedrun this soon

To play it on Windows 11, it is enough to apply the patch explained in PCGaming Wiki, and there are no problems.

The game is very cool, gameplay,killings, but there is a huge drawback. All the gates. doors tha are in the game do not open, so it is imposibe to pass through. Only if you download some mod or something like that.

Game blocks you from playing it, they are literally selling an unauthentic copy that is no different than a pirated one. I tried fixing it through community patches but it does not even launch anymore.

After 1 hour of repeated crashes during the tutorial, and trying to fix it, I found a guide by "ermaccer" on how to solve the problems that I had.

The other reviews are true. Don't buy this version. The game crashes at the 1st gate in the 1st level. Unplayable.

Best Steath Game I Have Ever Played

Alright well this game has a lot more depth than I initially thought. I heard of Manhunt, but I never watched any gameplay. I assumed it was some weird torture p0rn game about simply inflicting pain onto people. While that is somewhat true, there is a bit more nuance. The best way to describe this game is Max Payne with stealth elements. The first half of the game is basically a stealth game and its honestly pretty fun. It can be a bit repetitive, but I think the devs made a good attempt at increasing level variety. However, the second half of the game turns into a third person shooter, but with more stealth elements. I compared it to Max Payne because the gameplay in this game is very similar. Basically you can hide in shadows and try to pick people off or you can complete the level Rambo style. I didn't even know there were guns in this game lol. The later levels are also HARD as fvckk. This game was a lot better than I expected and if you liked Max Payne and can handle gore than this is something you should buy. However, you do need to install custom patches, but it shouldn't be that hard so long as you're not a lobotomized homunculus. I installed all the necessary patches with no problems and I only had this game crash once.

TL;DR A surprisingly fun shooter game with stealth elements and pretty fun combat, but this port sucks and requires a lot of custom tweaking.

Manhunt 1 is one of those games that hits you hard. It’s dark, brutal, and the stealth mechanics are perfect for the twisted world it creates. The sense of tension as you silently take out enemies is seriously gripping, and the atmosphere is thick with discomfort, which makes the whole experience unforgettable. It’s a cult classic for a reason, when it works, it’s pure gold.

But here’s the catch: the PC port is a f*cking mess. It’s buggy af, with crashes, weird graphical glitches, and control issues that make it a pain in the ass to play. The camera is wonky, and even basic things like mouse sensitivity feel off. It’s like the game’s potential is constantly being held back by its broken tech, and it’s honestly frustrating. You’ll probably spend more time dealing with these issues than actually enjoying the game.

If you can get through the technical nightmare, Manhunt 1 is still an awesome experience. But fair warning—the PC version is more trouble than it’s worth for a lot of players.

Rating: 6/10. The game is brilliant, but the PC port is a broken sh*t.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME

this game is not a real game it is instead a pirated copy that is still being sold on the steam store. in the first scene of the game you need to wait for an enemy to pass through a gate and then you kill them, but in this version the game is stuck and will not open not allowing you to progress. or in my case after you kill that enemy the game crashes. which is a shame because this is a really good game and i would recommend it other wise so if you want to play it i would advise you to just play the console versions. sure you could search the internet for a patch to crack the game but no one wants to do that you should just be able to buy a game and not have to relay on fan mods to buy a game you paid for.

I have two hours on this game and have not even got past the first enemy it is a shitty buggy mess i downloaded a fixer mod but that just made the game not start im stuck

Great game, sucks that rockstar won't patch a game ending bug and you have to do it yourself, but all in all great game, holds up very well, quite difficult especially that damn train level.

I humbly apologize for pirating your game by purchasing it from the steam store. I've learned my lesson.
Anyway it took just under a minute to patch but it's a shame this is even an issue considering how big R* is, this is just shameful. I'm sure all of the legitimate buyers have been punished accordingly, but for real shame on you for treating your games like this.

This game is bugged and doesn't work, im gonna ask for a refund, it gets stuck on the gate of the tutorial.

I don't even know where to begin with this game.

First of all the Steam version of the game triggers rockstar's anti piracy measures (for some reason) and doesn't allow you to progress through THE FIRST GATE unless you install COMMUNITY mods to fix it, and all the other issues with this game. Game breaking bugs aside, this game's AI is extremely broken and unpredictable. They don't function in any logical way that even remotely resembles real human behavior. For example, when you bait and lure enemies to you, there's about a 50% chance on whether they will fully go to the location you lured them to or whether they'll just stop halfway, bug out, and then turn around. In a game where the main goal is to kill people by hiding in the shadows, this is damn near a deal breaker. The AI will also sometimes refuse to leave certain rooms even if you try to lure them out by making noise or FIRING A GUN. They will wonder what the noise is and indicate that they're gonna go investigate, but then say some shit like "oh, nothings here". YES THERE'S SOMETHING THERE, IT WAS TOTALLY SILENT AND NOW SOMEONE IS FIRING A GUN OUTSIDE YOUR DOOR. Sometimes the AI will also not compute how to enter a certain room or turn into another corridor so that results in enemies stacking up next to each other for 15 seconds before they eventually give up and turn around. I get it, this is an old game but in a stealth game where you cannot use guns without giving away your position, this is a major issue. It's also very hard to tell when someone is going to turn around in this game, which again, is a massive problem.

The story in this game is lackluster at best and nonexistent at worst. The story essentially has as much presence as a side scroller Mario game. Now you might wonder "oh, so surely the gameplay must make up for the lack of story, right? No. The game revolves around essentially hiding in a dark corner, luring an enemy to you or sneaking up behind them, killing them with a "brutal" execution, and then rinsing and repeating that until you've reached the end of the level. The gameplay loop is extremely boring and repetitive. "This game came out when games were much more primitive!" some might be saying as an excuse for the way the game plays. Keep in mind that there were PLENTY of other great stealth games that came out BEFORE manhunt such as Metal Gear Solid or Splinter Cell or even Hitman. Essentially every aspect of this game except the executions can be replicated in a better and funner way in any other stealth game from the time.

Why have I been using the word brutal with quotation marks? Because this game's gore really isn't that groundbreaking in today's world. This game's main selling point is the gore and I assure you that you have likely seen worse gore in other video games or movies, ESPECIALLY if you've seen the terrifier movies (which I wouldn't recommend btw, those movies are for psychopaths and sadists). Back in 2004 I'm sure this was some pretty intense gore for a video game but in today's world, it really doesn't even come close.

I will say though that the soundtrack is pretty fitting and cool though. It's by no means a masterpiece of a soundtrack but it's still a good soundtrack. It has this synthy slasher movie kinda vibe and it fits.

For those who still aren't turned away by this game based off what I've said so far, just know that halfway through this game, it goes from being a stealth game to essentially a cover shooter where you take too long to peek out from cover, your bullets go from doing full damage to no damage after a certain range (for some reason), and enemies will shoot you 0 milliseconds after you peek from cover with perfect accuracy. I'm not exaggerating btw, enemies in this game do have almost 100% perfect accuracy. They basically always hit their target and to compensate for this, the damage they deal is random so that basically makes the shooter parts of this game very RNG. You're going to be loading back to the last checkpoint A LOT in this game.

I originally thought that this game was so difficult because I was playing on the highest difficulty. I was wrong. Turns out that EVERY difficulty in this game is hard, you just take like 15% more damage on the harder difficulty (negligible) and don't have a mini map. I like difficult games but when your game's mechanics can't decide whether to be totally realistic or extremely gamey, that makes this game very difficult to get the hang of. Sometimes the way to progress through a certain situation is by doing exactly what one would do in real life, other times you progress by doing something that only an idiot would do in real life.

If you want to play a dark and creepy stealth game with a good soundtrack that gives you the vibe that you are a violent apex predator, just play Hitman: Contracts instead. For those of you who want a taste of what that game is like, here's the trailer

I grew up playing on the original Xbox and I LOVE games from the sixth generation. This one just ain't it though chief.


P.S. whoever wrote the dialogue for the skins gang is an idiot. They're this Neo Nazi/Confederate gang which exists in this game for some reason and they always taunt you about being genetically inferior mutt WHICH MAKES NO SENSE BECAUSE YOU LITERALLY PLAY AS A WHITE MAN WITH A GERMANIC LAST NAME. Confederate and Nazi ideology are literally exact opposites btw. They're about as different as communism and medieval feudalism are in terms of their beliefs. Literally the only thing these ideologies have in common is racism.
Also, if your group only exists because of the group's ideology, then wouldn't it make more sense to try to spread your ideology instead of being a violent, low level street gang? This game just has cartoonishly bad writing sometimes.

The PC version is BROKEN, you can't even get past the first stage because apparently there's a well known glitch where swinging fences are broken and two minutes into it guess what you have to walk past... a FREAKING physics based gate.

like it looks good and i want to play it but i cant because the Ai in this game sucks SO BAD that they take 50 minutes turning around a corner and i know this was likely a problem when the game 1st came out but this is no excuse because half life 1 had really good ai systems when it came out it 1998 but it just is so painful to watch them get stuck behind a tiny corner of a bench.

The fact that Rockstar is selling a pirated copy of their own game that won't play by default is kind of sad and also funny. The patch installation takes only a minute and then the game will give you no issues and plays perfect with very few glitches. This is a difficult, frustrating game that starts out seeming overly simplistic but has nuance to the game play that requires many hours to truly master.

The plot of the game in itself is kind of brilliant, as it's about a murderer on death row who is set free only to be forced to be part of a snuff film for a wealthy executive. The game takes place in Carcer City, which is the city near Liberty City in Grand Theft Auto, so it's fair to say that this is GTA game to some extent, even though you don't use any vehicles except a crane at one point. It's overall very well designed and feels kind of like a horror game just because the premise is so disturbing. Whenever the game play starts to get repetitive the scenery and objectives change enough to make it feel different. The whole game takes place across a single night and a lot of the sequences are "one hit kill" scenarios that will force you to restart over and over until you figure out the enemy placements.

Normally in a game like this the "glory kills" get repetitive as they're fixed cutscenes, but in this game they're so brutal and disturbing that I still felt myself wincing many hours after playing. You're supposed to hide in the shadows and pick off targets for most of the game. The stealth is easy but the combat is difficult. There is a cover system that you are supposed to use but it occasionally gets buggy. There's a lot of nuance to this as you have to use the weapon you have to your advantage. If you have a shotgun you want to lure the enemy into close range and pop out and shoot. If the enemy has a double barrel shotgun, you can dodge to get them to force to reload and move into their cover and take them out. Certain weapons like the uzi and AR are instakill so you must use stealth to evade them. It's really well designed and while the graphics aren't great they have that "early 2000s" game charm that makes it really feel like you're playing an old GTA game. In fact, this whole game feels like one of the side chain missions you'd pick up in Grand Theft Auto. The only thing I wish the game did differently was provide the player with some kind of explosive weapon. You often have a whole room of enemies clustered together and it would be really satisfying to throw a grenade in or plant C4, but you can't do that. Once you beat the game there's actually many more hours of potential game play if you want to get five stars in each mission.

To do this you have to get a certain number of grotesque kills (Stalk the enemy until the reticle turns red) and beat the level in a certain amount of time. It's suprisingly hard and took me about 15 hours to actually complete because some of the requirements are ridiculous and you have to manage speed in a game that requires stealth. There are no achievements, as this was just a lazy cash grab by Rockstar to put this on Steam without any effort, but the core game is so much fun I stopped caring about the poor method it was put on Steam and just focused on enjoying a great game that holds up very well 20 years after its release.

fix the goddamn game, Rockstar. it does not work without backdoor fixes. Just google "manhunt fixer" and follow the directions to install. this game should NOT be sold for money.
