- Organized into 3x3 battle squads to fight in combat.
- Fused with other souls to boost a creature’s XP.
- Devoured by the Soul Reaper himself to advance his own stats.
- Smithed into loot pieces that both the Soul Reaper and his troops can wear.
- Slotted into equipment to add or enhance attributes.
With many ways to divvy up your souls, it’s up to you to decide how best to utilize this vital resource. Scour the land in search for treasure to help you on your journey, and unlock new abilities on the overworld by bringing bosses to their knees. Regain your emotions by slaying the sentient Reaper Fragments, and defeat The Midnight Council before The Vault comes crashing down with you inside it.
Soul Reaper draws inspiration from both classic and contemporary RPG titles. Some games you might be reminded of while playing are:
- Pokemon: Once you're hooked on collecting souls, you'll wanna reap 'em all.
- Diablo: Loot with more stats than you can shake a '+50% stick-shaking' stick at.
- Final Fantasy: Side view turn-based combat, just like the old days!
- Castlevania: Aria/Dawn of Sorrow: Slay monsters, get souls. Repeat.
Features
- 80+ Creatures to Reap and Collect. Encounter unique and expressive monsters throughout The Vault. Arrange your creatures in up to nine squads, or slot them into loot pieces for extra bonuses. Have a few souls you don’t want? Smith them into items, or devour them for quick XP!
- Explore Vast Landscapes for Treasure. The Vault is comprised of three layers: Volcanheim, Elysium, and Polarus. Each component presents a drastically different climate, with treasure chests scattered throughout each zone.
- Addictive Turn-Based Combat With Deep Strategy. Exploit type advantages, unit arrangement, and more to turn the tide in your favor. Slot souls into the Soul Reaper’s equipment to unlock more attacks, and command your squads to victory.
- Fight at Your Own Pace. Accelerate the game’s battle speed up to x3, or outmaneuver enemies on the overworld to avoid combat entirely.
- Different Fragments, Different Outcomes. The Soul Reaper’s behavior changes based on which Fragment the player selects. Interactions with NPCs are influenced by the shift in ego, and the story will unfold differently depending on how many Fragments the player has acquired.
- Fearsome Bosses With Exciting Powers. Besting the boss monsters in combat will grant unique abilities in return. Smash rocky terrain with the Balboa, and extinguish flaming geysers with the Elephount! Return to former areas to explore new paths, and overcome obstacles previously blocking your way.
- Blood-Pumping Soundtrack. Tracks are crafted to fit the style of each region, and the boss theme presents a climactic overhaul of the already adrenaline-fueled battle music.

i really enjoy this game and its mechanics it has a lot of mechanics you would not even think about when your first playing like i did not even think about equip equipment to souls them selves and feels like the game has many ways to play
I really wanted to enjoy this game but the lack of controller support sucks. I kept getting stuck in menus and couldnt get the speed up to work with a controller. Did a refund but if they ever fix these issues i would try it since the game itself seems worth a try but if it doesnt work not much else to do
i kinda like it how it has potencial for a huuuge grind + most of the negative reviews are little cry babies but im kinda scared if its abandoned
Terrible! Graphic are bad, music is annoying, explanations are not good...
The game has a great concept. From the story I have seen, it is interesting enough to play and fuse some cool creatures. The game still has some bugs, overlay issues with menus, items and monsters disappearing and item values not stacking properly.
this game is fucking lame. bought it for 90% off and im still refunding it. some scenes have no skip feature and ive played flash games with more work put into it. STAY AWAY
It's a okay game but I wouldn't recommend it.
Pros:
-Nice animations, going into it I was expecting it just being sprites with a bit of animations but no it has a good array of animations for attacks, damage, etc.
-enemies aren't recolored skins of each other, there are a few but just in the beginning area alone I was met with a wide array of enemies
Cons:
-The grind is real, I'm only in the begging area so far but each battle only awards 1-4 xp per battle that can be used to level up your monsters individually, as in you got a team of 4 and only 6 xp well that 6 xp doesn't go fort the whole team you have to decide how to distribute that xp for me I put all the xp into Soul Reaper himself
-Which leads to another point if Soul Reaper dies in battle its an automatic game over, this is annoying especially in the begging when you only have 2 monsters to start out with and Soul Reaper is one of them
-UI, sometimes the UI is straightforward and other times its a game of point and click adventure as you hunt down the thing you need to click
-In my experience the map was useless I could barely get any real useful info from it
I can see some real effort went into making this game but I can't recommend it as I found myself bored at times while playing this
It's a fun game in the style of Shin Megami Tensei with your army https://store.steampowered.com/app/1163660/Soul_Reaper/#of souls to manage. It should not retire from Steam.
I'm just going to make this short and sweet the game has some great qualities and is a nice addition to the monster collecting genre but at this time the UI and menu's are a joke things like the mouse pointer dropping and then keyboard starts a convo with another npc which then overrides you trying to exit the menu so many little frustrations i gave up in the end. When or if they finally roll out a update to address these would i part with your hard earned cash.
Bit of odd maps, but lots of captured souls to group and level up in differing battle mashups, which are quite fun and have a good customisation of skills and combination of types of captured souls to use. All have different skills to fight with which can be altered as to how they hit depending on positioning of opponents group. Also you do not level by exp, you level yourself and captured souls by absorbing other souls you gather. Good game with much replay ability.
This might be the absolute most jankiest game I've ever played. The only controller buttons that do what they're supposed to do is the left analog stick, navigating the menu is an absolute pain whether using controller or keyboard and I ended up getting stuck in a menu and couldn't back out of it at all. The concept is solid, the story is kinda weak (Darksiders meets Pokemon but not as cool as it sounds), the art is awesome but by god, mechanically, this game barely functions.
Refunded, don't recommend buying.
Within 60 seconds of being able to walk on the overworld I just walked off the edge of the terrain and then was unable to get back on or progress the game. If a bug as simple as this exists in terrain collision I dread to think what the rest of the game is like.
Hidden gem on Steam, it reminds me of Siralim a bit which is good because I love Siralim. I had to get this because I love Monster Taming games and the darker theme with it was very appealing. The monster fusion mechanic is great and so is the art and music. So far it's a lot of fun and not a regret purchase like much of my steam library.
Some features I would like to see are key remapping, ability to play entirely (or as much as possible) with mouse only, and speed up as a toggle. The latter two would really make this an even greater experience for me. These things aren't deal breakers as they are now just personal preference.
Back in March a reviewer said they recently revamped the interface and in a few months it would be smoothed out. It is now January, 10 months later. In my brief experience with this game that interface have made me seriously contemplate suicide. That interface is an affront to all that is good and right in this world. That interface is perhaps the most abominable thing mankind has ever created. That interface surely once nested in Hell, however Satan himself kicked it out as it was simply too vile. It seems that interface will have an article about it added to the Geneva Conventions before the devs will fix it.
Can I recommend this game? No, no I cannot. The game itself seems that it might be decent (besides the horror that is the overworld map where you walk around), but it is sadly held captive by that interface. If you are thinking about getting this game, then I urge you to flee as fast as you can before that interface gets to you.
A very fun game and an interesting concept, where souls function as xp, currency, materials and even as monsters to help you in combat. I love the variety of monsters and the way they can be strung together to form intricate strategies, and the story is pleasantly goofy at times. I hope this game keeps getting updates, and if you like monster taming games and turn based combat, this game is definitely worth a try!
I will admit that I didn't give the game much of a chance, but I felt cheated really quick. The game seemed awkward (a little buggy) and combat wasn't strategic like I expected. No movement. You just stand there and click. Maybe it gets better, but it wasn't for me.
Absolutely loving my experience. Soul Reaper feels like a love letter to the style of games I love. Soul Nomad and the world eaters, Disgaea, Cross Edge, Chaos Wars. I am currently working my way into New Game+ and plan to return to this Review with a more comprehensive take, until then Soul Reaper has my Stamp of Approval.
Fun and addictive game. The concept is interesting in that the same resource (souls) is used for everything. You accumulate hundreds (maybe thousands) of them very quickly through battling.
You can slot them into your party where they appear as creatures to help you in battle. Or you can slot them into the sockets in your gear where they’ll add stats and abilities for you to use in combat.
Battles are fast and plentiful, but no matter how many you win, you and your creatures don’t gain xp or level up in a traditional sense. That’s where another use for souls comes into play. You can have your character eat them for xp, or you can fuse them with an existing creature, which gives that creature xp.
There are also row bonuses, equipment to fuse together, socketed soul combos, and probably more I’m forgetting. It’s just a great game for people that like to to collect a large party and tinker with things. Almost like a Disgaea vibe, though not that level of polish, and very different gameplay.
It’s seems a little pricey to me, but that’s subjective and I've been spoiled by cheap game prices. It’s clear a lot of work went into this, and it's sort of a niche genre, so it probably wouldn't make sense to make it cheaper. All in all, I’m happy to support a project like this. I don’t know of anything else quite like it.
Really nice, and fast paced; monster-catching strategy RPG. The game has aspects of idle-game style gameplay, however the strategy comes from squad optimisation, gear socketing, and order placement (there are 'row bonuses' available, but those're kinda beyond me at the current time of writing, lol).
I made a fairly in-depth, but still very early, impressions video; available here:

Really looking forward to discovering more monsters, and more strategic optimisation in the hours and days to follow.
Gotta Reap 'em All!!
