low key, great game for just building homes! do recommend fro people with a MASSIVE IMAGINATION

Although it isn't perfect, as some things are limited and placement of items can be restrictive, this is a really good game to play. I've only played sandbox mode so far, but I'm hoping to try career mode next. I like that for most of the items, you can customise the appearance - whether that's the material, colour, orientation, etc, it means I can design rooms to my personal taste.

Laggy, and looks horrible. It's bad.

Slow to adapt implementations...

It's pretty reasonable priced, especially if you're in the early stages of remodeling your house and want to mess around with ideas before taking it to a contractor.

I dont like this game because it doesn't support macOS chromeOS and steamOS and I didnt get to play it and stuck on the loading screen for fifty five minutes and I found out only supports Windows.

i feel like i have some notes. so far i love the game. very easy to understand the gameplay, graphics are solid, and is a good start. the game is in beta now but it has been awhile since the last update has come out. here are my ideas for the nest one
1. more things should be customizable. there is a very good start. most placeable items in the game you can change all or most of colors and patterns. things like windows wallpapers or specific portions of the item cannot be changed. it might seems silly, but if the marketing is how amazing how much you are able to do and should play this game over a game like the sims because of it, i think it should be true. also some of the colors of preset items can be a little off and throw off the color scheme of the whole room.
2. eye dropper tool. there needs to be an eyedropper tool instead of just a duplicate tool. duplicate is incredibly helpful. if you want to place something like dining chairs, you would only have to customize one and copy the rest. however if you want to place something like a gallery wall or matching sofa and loveseat you have to dig through each one of the pages trying to find each one f the swatches used.
3. more. lastly there needs to be more. i understand that the game is still in beta, but seems relatively finished and has gone through several iterations already. there really just needs to be more "stuff" in game. more clutter, more stuff to put on the walls, more diverse terrain, just more things. i understand that a new game like this would take time to get to a level of a game like the sims, but if your marketing is "play this one over that one because its better and you dont even need any packs" i believe it should be true.
i do like the game and have already recommended it to my fellow sims players. i give it a solid 8\10 with changes easy 9.5\10.

If anywhere you can build a dream home in sandbox mode with full freedom and possibilities, this is the game for you.

So much for '4 years of development', this game has had the least effort put into a game out of all games i've ever played. It's so poorly designed that I will be on the verge of tears just from trying to create a corner on a house's roof - The devs must've somehow (when researching real houses to make the game realistic) not seen that most houses do in fact have corners in their roofs. So instead of doing this easily, you have to stare at snap grid spasms until you can (maybe) build a corner. Not to mention the terrible optimisation, my PC starts to melt just from building one house and saving? It's like these devs were recruited from the street and don't live in a house themselves, you can't even build a diagonal or curved wall. Genuinely, Sims 4 has had 10x more effort put into it, and is a better house building sim than this game.

So glitchy. Lags a lot. Minimal options

Won't load or freezes every time I try to open. Refund denied because I tried to open it for longer than 2 hours meaning total play time was over 2 hours. It sounded like exactly what I was looking for but turns out it wasted not just my time but unfortunately my money as well. I'm still trying to troubleshoot but I would suggest looking for something not so glitched.

We appreciate the regular updates but there needs to be better priorities like putting basic home building game mechanics in the game first before things are done to the UI, adding pools, Christmas trees, etc. Things like diagonal positioning or really any angled positioning, basement building, roof structures with actual roof joists, attics, different roof pitches, the ability to type in measurements for walls, actual foundation building not some random wood looking squares... the list goes on. This is child's play and in no way a serious home building game like advertised. I can appreciate what people like about it buts its not even at Sims 4 home building levels or anything even close let alone something that's directed toward ONLY home building.

This is in fact a good tool for designing affordable homes.

Other features like Career mode are planned, but right now you can use this very easy to use "game" to build houses and test some ideas that you have for personal use or when dreaming of your future house.

You can't build round walls or complex geometric architecture, but these features cost a lot if you want to build a house in real life, so "affordable" is the key word.

Maybe I am in a minority, but I would prefer for the devs to add o lot of plants and means for designing a garden (and not a career mode), as they've already added some very beautiful lots for us to build on.

Pros:
- very easy to use tool for building affordable houses
- many choices to furnish and decorate
- many beautiful lots to build on
- you can have an idea for a house, open the game, build it in half an hour and get some clues about how a real house would look like, that is in a very short time

Cons:
- the proportions are all over the place, i.e. one sq. meter is more like half of that, but the furniture respects the real proportions (it's the same problem like in SIms 4)

i'm super enjoying getting accustomed to building in this, it's close enough to the sims to be intuitive to me. it's very straight-forward in its interface, and although it has some quirks that i hope advance in the future (the way walls on different floors, as well as roofs, interact could be better for getting certain visual effects), it's a very visually satisfying game. i like it a lot!

Paid for it...can't play it on any android or PC...worthless

I genuinely love this game. I was looking for a game that's like sims but without the legitimate gameplay, and this hit that spot. My only suggestion is adding more clutter items. There's a lot of great furniture and building choices, but I love to clutter my builds and it's lacking a lot to be desired.

It's good with heaps of potential but far out the roofing is so frustrating! every time everything is going smoothly i get this glitch with pitched roofs where a small section of wall shows through that cant even be selected or edited.

Anyone know a way around this?

This game has been brutaly murdered and is a shell of its former self. I stoped playing June 2024, and when i came back i saw bad reviews. I was confused, but now i see. THEY REMOVED CAREER MODE AND OTHER STUFF TO!!!! this game is back at sqaur 1 and there pretending that they just started. this. is. crimanal.

The game sure looks cool in all the influencer videos they paid to have made.

So many fun-looking videos of doing jobs and making money to build up your portfolio.

It's all fake, they lied in every single one of them. There is no career mode, even now years later. They never added any of it to the actual game they're selling.

I have only a few minutes of playtime, because the game tells you right from the main menu that it's all a lie and there is no game.

And what can we assume when even the developers of the game feel like they have to blatantly lie and have gone so far out of their way to deceive gamers?

It tells us that they know what they're actually capable of making won't sell.

Really enjoy it. As TS fan - and mostly the home building part - this is some improvement in many aspects. My main wish rn would be: PLEASE add the auto-complete feature for flooring and walls. It is a pain in the a__ having to color tile by tile everytime.

I may try it again if you add some key features like diagonal walls and a way to grab chunks of building (rooms or plots) and duplicate it/move it somewhere else.

Just as the description for the game states, I am someone who primarily played SIMS to build houses, and this game, Hometopia, is a fantastic way to build, customize, and create homes. I can tell through a few glitches that it's still in introductory stages, but with a few changes and with all the upcoming plans, I have no doubt that this game will become a favorite for many!

really love this game ! after reading the tutorial it was pretty easy to navigate. im real excited to see what the newer updates have in store !!

I bought this game and i haven't been able to play in career mode. On my screen my career mode says coming soon. only mode i am able to play in is sandbox. I see people online playing career mode. so am i doing something wrong or is the game not ready yet??

I wanted to like the game, I really did. Unfortunately after painstakingly reading through the TOS I found many clauses were repeated, some conflicted with one-another, some were completely unrelated to the game altogether, and the clause about them being allowed to use our voice and likeness for anything they want felt predatory at best. Still, I gave the game a chance and unfortunately wasn't able to go past the tutorial: why? because I can't change the keybinds to accomodate for my AZERTY keyboard, so I suppose if you're european you don't get to play this game. It's truly a shame, because this is exactly the type of game I was looking for, too.

It's still early access, but currently this it is very far away from what I'd hope for in a game like this. At the moment, it's basically the home editor from any Sims game, but without any other gameplay elements (yet) - it's basically a game for people who want to design their own cool-looking homes right now.

The disappointing part about this is that for a game that's basically a "build your own house" game, there are severe limitations in the game in terms of how creative you can be. All walls are squared off and must conform to a grid, meaning you cannot make any walls connect at an angle other than 90 degrees. And forget about making cool curved sections in order to make crazy-looking modern houses. As another example, pools exist in the game, but they're fixed size and fixed design. Decades ago in Sims games you could create your own pool areas and customize them, and this game does not yet match this feature. It's tough to play the game and come up with all sorts of ideas, only to find that you cannot actually execute those ideas in the game itself.

There are also a lot of rough edges in the game (to be expected) that I'd hope to be cleaned up eventually - sometimes the game won't let you change walls or furniture if it's too close to another element, as if the collision detection is off. The scale of some of the items in game also feels completely off, especially between the two hot tubs. I'd expect a much better level of precision around measurements and square footage; the measurements just feel completely off at times, where you'll make a room that's allegedly the size of a whole studio apartment and one couch and table will fill the entire thing. Customizable ceiling heights, being able to change floor heights, etc. are all sorely needed.

Overall this is a game that I'll check in on from time to time in hopes of major gameplay updates since the idea is promising, but I was hoping for a blank canvas that would let me do anything I wanted without limitations, and the game is not there yet.

It is a great game and is really fun. I f you are a fan of The Sims then you will definitely like this game.

Great house-building simulator. Amazing graphics and endless possibilities.

Game is Early Access so I can understand a couple bugs but this game is littered with bugs, loading issues, and will just destroy your save data out of nowhere. If you want to get this games, I would wait until the full game releases in hopes that all the bugs and issues have been patched by then. That being said, the game is really fun just super duper buggy.

Awesome game, hope there will be some updates with triangle blocks to build not only straight walls and it would be nice to build on different heights per room. Also a basement option would be good.

Ignore the bad reviews and read MINE! People who think this is a SIMS clone are very mistaken. This is a house builder game. Not any old house builder but one that you can actually build a house with other people together and it runs well! There is some performance issues with tress and grass I noticed so I just turned grass off and that fixed the issues. This game reminds me of playing minecraft in the middle of the night just building little homes for hours. This is the perfect relaxation time waster game! I have been wanting a smooth running house building game for ages! For it being early access there is a lot to do. All there is, is the sandbox for now but that is all that there needs to be in order to have fun. And you heard me right, you can have your friends hop on and build the same home together at the same time!!

I recommend this game, even in its early access state.

Please improve the roofing and add more varieties of roofs. I would also like you to add the different types of roofs (overlaps etc.) so that you can build real roofs.

Nevertheless, I can highly recommend this simulator, it's very relaxing

Decided to give this a try when it went on sale. It looks like a perfectly valid Sims builder clone, but that appears to be all.
I would have loved to give it a few hours of play to explore it some more but I don't want to risk exceeding the refund window.

This is my first review on steam but I wanted to say I absolutely adore this game. It lets you freely build and customize and decorate homes, gardens and some really imaginative stuff too. and the more time you spend with the game, the more youre able to figure out how to do some really impressive building tricks. Theres a lot of hidden depth.

I know its still in early access but I have a few gripes with it that Ill list here:
-the way roofs work is pretty bad. you have to have a floor attached to each roof piece so you cant make a vaulted ceiling, etc. I hope they fix this soon.
-I would like more options for making neighborhood type stuff
-I'd really like to be able to customize my character. We can customize buildings, why not the characters?
-certain items are kind of hard to move around

What I love:
- tons of furniture optuions that you can re-surface however you want
- tons of surface options
-Great kitchen things
- all the plants, though some of the trees look kinda meh
- all the different locations
- that they let you build whatever you want and make a portfolio of your collectyion

So far im really impressed with this game and Im really happy its getting regular updates. Cant wait to see how it develops and what the final game will look like.

This game is a lot of fun, especially for a game still in early access. I love the features that tell you how much square footage is each room has and the attention to detail. I just hope that a future update allows for more custom square footage. Being confined to 11sqft takes away my ability to also plan for future builds in real life which this game totally has that capability of becoming

Overall a very good game concept and I love some of the special aspects this has compared to other building sims, especially the first person mode! I think the game has great potential but is just lacking some very basic functionality which can sometimes make it hard to play. Just to list a few:

- HOTKEYS! Why are there no hotkeys (f. e. demolish, pick item...). Simple feature with great impact
- Picking an item with all its properties: There is a feature to find all of the attributes (item, material, paint) separately but not to copy an item other than to click the duplicate button but that is very inaccessible in my opinion.
- Mass placing objects: When placing objects with attributes/properties like paint/material you CAN hold ctrl but that wont keep you customization
- Moving structures: You cannot select a group of items and move them together. Making a mistake while building is fatal this way since you will have to move every object individually.

Some ideas which are not severely reducing the fun I am currently having while playing:
- Custom Prop designer and marketplace
- Working cars (even though that would be better for the city mode)

I just fell like the game is very unfinished as of right now which is obvious seeing the game is in early access. I feel like the features I mentioned first would not be too complicated to implement but provide great change. Overall still recommend giving the game a chance since the price is pretty reasonable :)

OK, so I didn't play much but i do have a lot to say so buckle up

1. I feel like demolish feature is very VERY uncomfortable to use in the sense that it's TIRING to realise that the build I was making did not suit to my liking and that now i have to manually peak each tile of my building instead of being able to quickly get rid of the whole build or at the very least be able to scale the area i want to demolish the same way i can scale the area i wanna place my walls/ceilings/foundation on. I feel like adding option to sort of "bulldoze" your whole build, and to choose the area of demolishing like you choose the area of walls/ceiling/etc would make this feature much more useful and making mistakes as a player wouldn't be as frustrating
2. The way stairs work is honestly very enraging, I really don't know if it's a bug or an actual feature, but I cannot place neither ceilings or foundations near the end of the stairs, and when i loaded one of the pre saved houses it also had this issue which really made it confusing for me. I hope you guys can look into this possible issue in the future because it makes building for me very infuriating instead of relaxing
3. It would have been nice to have more controls over the objects and even rooms you are working with. I think being able to have a diagonally/arch like built floors/walls would give more opportunities to the players. I think being able to choose the height of the walls or foundation, doors and windows would all be very good features. Perhaps these features already exist but I will be honest I simply couldn't find any information about them in manual or the game itself

I sincerely believe this game has a lot of potential, and as artist having a game which could help me envision interior or exterior of the setting could really help me in the future, and I think this is one of the best games to help me with that, however, lack of ability to fix my mistakes, certain bugs, and limitations are not helping me right now. I don't think I will be refunding the game, because again, I really like it, and I see A LOT of potential it could have as both reference material and a simple cozy game, but I do hope that the developers will pay attention to these issues and fix and improve the aforementioned features.

As an artist and user of Sims 4 to help draw backgrounds, this is a great program! It's very easy to use and works very similar to the Sims. The free camera/POV is very much appreciated for taking detailed photos as reference.

Some suggestions that could enhance the customization (from what I've seen, these haven't been implemented *yet* unless I'm blind, if they have, I apologize!):
- Resizing feature for furniture/assets
- Selecting groups of objects (whether to move together and/or paint)

Other than that, it's a great game! Of course, it's in early access but I just love it <3

My first steam review, I really wanted to enjoy this. It compares itself to the sims, but the building element of the sims.
But its a miss for me and here's why:
No basements
Very bad roofing line ups,
There are 3 types of roofs, steep, medium and low pitch. But they don't line up well. No way to do correct dormers, a 2nd story with a half wall is out. Angled walls is out because of that.
Even their model home had a hole in the ceiling. and its 2nd story was just full of wall pieces because you cant just do a roof for some reason it adds walls when you add a roof making the upstairs rooms useless.
So disappointed I was looking forward to this so bad.

I hope they fix this, but for me 40 mins in, i knew I wanted out.

So far its a very fun game. Other than a couple of clientside issues that resolved themselves. Would be nice to be able to put basements in though.

I really, REALLY want to like this game, and I might in the future when it's done cooking, but right now, it's far from where it needs to be. The controls can be awkward at best and other times, they're obnoxiously annoying. Controls aren't very intuitive, at least for me, nor would I call them user friendly. I realize many options aren't available at this time so I'll check back when it's updated. For now, I kept getting frustrated with the lack of fine detail control, *hate* how it toggles between the walk/fly mode - to the point of wanting to actually scream in frustration - because scrolling in and out had me flying out of the house when I just wanted to back up and see the entire wall/room after viewing paint and wallpaper options to compliment the floor tile. OR, if I was flying and wanted to zoom in on something in particular, I might find myself under the house instead of on the deck looking at the window features up close. Just UGH!!!

Didn't like that there are multiple types of materials but these same materials aren't available between items, like flooring for instance, where I wanted a specific type of wood for my decking but didn't have the same wood available for the deck stairs in order to have continuity of mats. Every other wood option looked horrible, meaning I had to rethink the decking completely, which threw off the whole design aesthetic I had in mind. Nor did I want to be left with cliché design options.

It was too easy to paint things by mistake or move something accidentally after you've spent time getting it placed exactly where you want it. I know, I can go back and paint over it with the correct color, but when I was first learning the controls, it wasn't fun. Having a feature to lock an item in place once you have it where you want it would be incredible and I'm not aware of another game that has this feature. I'd spend more time playing a game that had that because I wouldn't have to waste time trying to reset something for third or fortieth time.

Hometopia could be a really great game, and has a ton of potential to be just that. I'll be back when the game is updated with better controls and features. Will revise my review to a Yes if it gets better, or will keep the No if it's warranted. Curious to see where things go from here.

I really love this game. It's gorgeous and you can build pretty much anything you can think of. With a few more features this could become like a realistic bloxburg. Only thing I wish is that you could pick your own avatar for multiplayer.
