It is thrilling, engaging and fun to play with your friends.
Gameplay is simple yet challenging, mechanics are easy to wrap around but hard to master.
One of the best Roguelike/Roguelite games in the market at the moment.
Give it a try.
Great build variety. Awesome Combat. Local Coop ist awesome in this game
Fun combat, upgrades, and flow. Great in co-op.
This one isn’t so good.
In some rogue-like games, the focus is on sustain – the most important thing is maintaining health points, and thus not being hit. Ember Knights takes this idea to an extreme: the first, weakest enemy we meet in the game does 5 damage, while our characters have 40 health points. The result is that avoiding hits becomes the center of the game, which may be fun to some people, but is not really for me.
The game has a few progression systems, but they work through mutually exclusive upgrades. For example, there’s a line with three options for health upgrades, each requiring currency to be unlocked and evolved: one option increases maximum health, the other heals, and the last increases maximum health when killing bosses. The thing is that only one of those options may be active at any given time, so the resources we have spent at the other ones feel like they have been wasted.
To make it worse, most upgrades feel very weak. For example, there’s one upgrade that (after reaching maximum rank) heals 5 health points when entering a room… But remember that one of the weakest enemies in the first area of the game hits for 5 damage? The maximum rank of this upgrade isn’t enough to heal a single hit from most enemies. There are other upgrades that allow us to reroll options a couple times per run – not per choice, not per world, but per run. This feels incredibly underwhelming.
Combat is average, area design is bland, graphics are ok, the soundtrack is forgettable. There’s nothing here really worth it. If you want to play a fun rogue-like, I suggest Hades (of course), or Dead Cells, or Astral Ascent.
Solo player here. This game's been a blast. The pixel art and animations are fantastic. Solid rogue progression. Nice collection of weapons, skills and upgrades to vary your runs and your playstyle each game. Really cool looking bosses. I can see how this would be a great time to play co-op as well but I'm still glad doing solo campaigns is still a lot of fun.
One of my favorite rouge likes to play at the moment. Once you put in the work and get new weapons and skills, it adds a lot of replay ability to each run. And i really like how when you start a run and pick your skills and relics, the game will start giving you new upgrades that compliment your current build! Nothing random and then in the end doesn't feel like your build is coming along. Co op with a friend or friends is great of course. I had a fire build while my buddy had an ice build, and our skills compliment us well. he froze enemies in place and i brought the pain with my fire, and completed our first run! Lots to still do and upgrade really enjoying my time with Ember Knights.
P.S. if you have fire attacks, you can cook the food items to heal you for more! And with a blade cut some foods to share with the squad! We found this out by surprise!
10/10
Ember Knights is a pretty cool guy, eh kills enemies and doesn't afraid of anything
I think this game tries too hard to be both a Souls-like and a rogue-like at the same time. Because of this, in my opinion, it doesn’t do either one well. Some mechanics feel unpolished, making the gameplay feel unfair at times and not very smooth.
My final verdict: the game isn’t hard, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it needs to be fun to make it work—and this game doesn’t achieve that very well.
3.5/10 - Not fun, too expensive, and poorly polished.

Local and online multiplayer Hades-style gameplay. What more can you ask for? Grab a buddy or three, and get going.
fun game solo but more fun with friends
An extremely fun roguelite that you can have endless hours of playtime either alone or with friends. I would absolutely recommend this game. It is loaded with different weapons, skills, and upgrades that can make every run feel unique and fun.
9/10 play the game
Its a very well done roguelike, if you want a fun game that easy to get into this game is for you
Ember Knights is so well made I can’t think of anything negative about it, the 2D animation alongside its pixelated graphics are beyond some of the cleanest I’ve ever seen. All of the worlds that you travel through feature so many unique enemy, boss and character designs I can’t even count all of them. The game is also amazingly well balanced and features familiar systems from other games but they are also different and work well. It’s a very enjoyable game and I wish I purchased this early, I would highly recommend you should.
This game is great. Very fun rogue lite game that can be done Co-op which is also fantastic. Tons of cool power ups and fun bosses.
Amazing Game play, there is so much to do, while still keeping a good story line.
very solid rouge like highly recommend. lots of items and upgrades, an endless mode, good music and skins
É bem maneiro e a variedade de itens e builds e armas é alta.
Great balance. Solid game. Very fun for solo play too
If you love rougelikes and games like Castle Crashers, play this game. The gameplay is tight, style is beautiful, and it's nearly replayable. The games works amazing on the Steam Deck with little to no problems. The only problem I encounter was a tiny stuttering when loading to a new world (which isn't a killer downside). DLC is neat too if you really love the game. 10/10
what we assumed would be an hour or 2 of coop and forget turned into several days of screaming and button mashing.
probably one of the closest things to coop hades weve found.
This and Seed Hunter are my go-to roguelikes. Fun Gauntlet feeling arcade game. Feels good to play.
Incredible top down roguelike. They nailed both combat and progression. Coop is flawless.
Excellent game. Played it with my 3 teenage sons for almost 8 hours straight and we are still all eager to play it more tomorrow. Beautiful graphics and entertaining game-play with a great variety in weapons skills and classes. Very fun game and perfect for co-op. Well-designed rouge-lite.
Be one with fire. Become fire. Fight as fire. What more to ask for
Very fun boss fights and its pretty challenging. The variants of the bosses change throughout runs so it prevents a lot of the repetitive feel. 20 hours and i still don't have every perk or skill. Super fun i recommend it!!
The game is awesome, I've been playing with my brother and we've been having an absolute blast!
It has all the cool things of the classical coop arcade games we used to play as kids but it has modernized the formula and has included several modern twists that i've seen in other modern games like Hades and such, I've only playied it coop, but if you have someone to share this experience with, I 100% recommend.
Good game but too much repetitive, get boring soon after test all weapon
Had really great time roasting everything and everyone during the stream with everyone and bomb some bosses.
Legit the most fun multiplayer Rougelite game I've had the pleasure of playing in a long time. Highly recommend.
I wanted to play this game on SteamDeck, but the game immediately drops to 0 frames every time you get hit during a run, effectively killing you. Seems like a nice game if it'd work 🤷♂️
Best RougeLite I have played in a while. It captures all the essence I like, tons of power ups, different play styles, replay-ability, changing bosses, etc. This is a perfect game for me, 10/10!
Ember Knights is an awesome game with responsive combat, fun co-op, and a charming pixel-art style. It’s easy to pick up, hard to master, and endlessly addictive.
What I loved:
The combat is smooth and satisfying. Each weapon feels unique, and there’s a ton of synergy to discover with different skills and builds. Experimenting keeps every run exciting.
Co-op makes it even better. Whether you’re playing locally or online with friends, the chaos and teamwork add a whole new layer of fun.
The pixel art is gorgeous, and the animations are fluid and full of personality. Combined with the dynamic soundtrack, the game creates an awesome atmosphere that pulls you in.
What could be better:
It would be nice to see more enemy types and variety in the environments. After a while, things can feel a bit repetitive.
Online matchmaking would make it easier to find others to play with if friends aren’t available.
If you like fast-paced action and challenging games, this is definitely worth picking up. It’s polished, fun, and has great replay value.
Rating: 8/10
Beat this at 2 AM with my friends, The Praxis had nothing on us, 10/10 fun experience.
Better game play flow than Hades 2 or Windblown. Straight to the point about upgrading ur stuff. Its not perfect, but its a damn good addicting game.
Surprisingly deep, and coming from someone who drops a game as soon as he's beat it, this has immense replayability (the game truly starts after you get to the "end"). Local and online co-op, tons of variation in builds, and great visual design.
What a fun rouge-lite. Easy to play with friends, and your character build saves across single or multi - so no efforts wasted. Fun builds and enemies, cute little features all the time. Good challenges!
Extremely fun game. Smooth gameplay, excellent rogue-like elements. It's a multi-player version of Hades lite. Great combination of super easy to play for a little bit of time and super addicting to progress.
Ember Knights is like a lot of games, but there are not a lot of games like Ember Knights. Not because it's the best at any one thing, but because it does so many things well.
If you want a game you can play with a partner or with friends that's challenging, exciting, and allows for tons of unique, distinct builds and playstyles, pick this one up. You won't be disappointed. Or maybe you will. I don't know you. Unless I do, in which case, sorry we don't talk more.
Great game with fun mechanics, but it gets repetitive after a few runs. While playing with friends can still be enjoyable, the lack of variety in powers and abilities makes it feel stale over time
To be honest, the game doesn’t feel like it’s worth its full price considering how little content there is. Adding more diverse skills and deeper synergies could really elevate the experience.
If you’re 100% sure about getting this game, then go for it—otherwise don’t
Really fun rogue-lite.
Once you unlock some meta progression it gets a lot deeper and faster, with weapon mods, etc.
In co-op, the screen can get a little busy and cluttered with effects, but is fun. It also has 'remote play together', so only one needs to buy the game to invite friends.
If you enjoy Hades, you're gonna like Ember Knights' weapon variety and fast-paced combat with diverse skills to choose from.
There isn't much to the story, though.
Definitely worth 20 bucks and a no-brainer on sale. I regret not getting it sooner than December 2024.
Makes you happy to play multiple runs trying different builds and ways to alter the rules during endgame. Getting there is worth it forth a strong learning curve, although allowing you to find your own way to conquer a first run with different weapons and colour options to compliment. Stronger with friends!!
This game was first introduced to me by a friend whom we are still somewhat in contact with but still play it when we can
This was back before the full release of the game and DLC. As i just finished completing the game, i'd like to express how much fun this game is via multiplayer, you can definitely go at it solo but preferably with friends. The amount of work this game has been through is simply amazing, i'm also a sucker for pixel animated games and an addictive gameplay like this one. Go buy it now! Gift it to friends to while you're at it when it goes on sale to make the experience more worth it!
This game has a lot of depth with the different weapons, the buffs you can choose for your run, and now with the DLC, alternate versions of the worlds and enemies that you can face.
It plays well, and better with friends. Highly recommend.
This game is extremely fun, specially in couch coop with friends. Fast-paced roguelike, somewhat random but a good strategy really pays off, and excelent progress feeling. I strongly recommend. 10/10.
Awesome game that is worth way more than what the dev asks for it. Fun couch coop or even solo. Not very difficult (at least for me but I play a lot of roguelites/roguelikes) but you certainly can make it more challenging if you wish. The daily dungeons is where it's at if you want some raw challenge cooked by the devs. Great game, play it and enjoy!
This is pretty great! A well made, good looking roguelike that feels really great to play, The controls are snappy and the visuals nice and clear so you can see what you're doing. It's a very generous game too, each time you think you've seen everything, it'll show you something new. There are multiple upgrades for each weapon and you get to choose them, therefor making a build that feels more unique to yourself. I play this in online co-op and we've had absolutely zero problems, no de-sync, nobody dropping out unexpectedly.
There's pretty much nothing wrong with this, easy to recommend! Lovely game.
The closest game I've found to Hades that supports co-op w/ my friends. Tough but fair, lots to unlock and improve, and overall a very fun game!
main game 9/10
DLC 8/10 - point deduction for lazy map- & story-making and lack of content (only two new knights) - this might change in future updates, in which case I'd gladly give it a 9 or 10
Gives me a ton of d1 & d2 vibes, which is very refreshing at an age where most games seem to be shameless cash-grabs.
- you can play this game over and over again (even takes some runs to really get into it)
- you can play co-op as up to 4
- simple but not stale
- micro-transaction free, no loot-chests (except Mimic King I guess)
Some tweaks (e.g. boss mechanics, randomization of the worlds...) and this game would be a 10.
This game is a great rogue light. It has tight controls and reactive gameplay. There is plenty of variety in weapons and skills. Each run can be different when presented with different relics and skills though there are my certain few I hope pop up. There seems to be a lot of content as well. The meta progression comes in the form of upgrades bought by ember that do things like grant permanent max health or allow skill rerolls. The enemies are varied for each world and the DLC adds even more variations. The bosses are fun and challenging. There is also a daily challenge run. Much of my time in this game was spent in coop and the game is still balanced and challenging with a friend. We did local coop with 2 controllers and never had an issue.
I think the only minor complaint that I have is you can sometimes get stuck on some of the environments which usually leads to taking some damage.
