gameplay is fine. The story would be mid, but the ending makes it a total nonsense. Didn't manage to force myself finish the epiloge or whatever that was.
best point and click adventure game in 2025 so far. The game is so polished. it has an interesting premise, not too difficult puzzles and well written dialogues with lots of humor, plus a unique art style. This is what a point click adventure game should be in 2025.
Yes.
I thought the game is well done in terms of graphics, voice acting, pacing, and puzzles. Overall, it was very fun for about 4-5 hours. The last 30 mins - 1 hour of the game didn't sit great with me. Decide for yourself, but for me they had the chance to close it out well and chose to change the atmosphere, feel, and direction. I am big on closing games out well. I would still recommend the game, but prepare yourself for an ending that may fall flat for you (some/most may like it). 7/10.
A fun but short game that I would recommend to anyone who wants a a simple puzzle game. The only thing that was not good, in my opinion, was the ending. It felt rushed and abrupt.
So I feel bad giving this game a thumb’s down, but in the end Story is key with a point and click adventure game and unfortunately Slender Threads just drops the ball in the regard. The longer the game goes the worse the story gets, with the ending just going over like an incredible loud liquidy fart in church, followed by the epilogue being even worse. They were enough to suck the enjoyment out that I felt for parts of the game like the voice acting, some puzzles and the visual style. If you want an adventure game that pulls a proper dark ending off, go for something like The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow, Dark Fall or the like.
It’s hard to pull off a combination of comedy-horror. I get that. Unfortunately Slender Threads tries to be a balancing act of both leaving you not unsatisfied with either.
Now I enjoy other games this company has put out. Kelvin and the Nobodies series are examples of other games I own from them that I enjoyed. But man, the longer this went, the less I enjoyed the experience.
As I said, the music was fun, some of the puzzles, like the hallucination one, brought a smile to my face, and the voice acting was well done. The plot, the horrible amounts of backtracking (even for a point and click game), and the other puzzles just left this game with a slight negative feeling in my heart.
There are better point and click options out there, and I’m usually pretty forgiving to the genre. Do I regret the purchase? No, I’m happy to give money to a talented indie company like Blyts, because I want to see them make more games. This just happens to be their weakest offering and I’m disappointed by my experience. That’s all.
Nice, short point and click with commendable voice acting and decent presentation/mechanics. If you're the type with a soft spot for Monkey Island etc. then you can't go too wrong.
Great game! I really enjoyed it. Visually, it's amazing and the characters were charming. I think what makes this game stand out from other point and click games is the mature and horror aspect, though I do wish it had 10% more gore to make the horror parts stand out.
There's also a very helpful hint system for when things get tough, and you will get stumped quite a lot. There was only one time it did not help out the 7 hours of my play time.
Now as for the ending I wouldn't say that "it was all in your head" like the other reviewer, but I would say that the game's ending suffers from an unreliable narrator. I believe that might be because the developer wanted the twist to be a surprise that no one would figure out but the issue is that no wants the rug pulled out from under them without warning. By doing a replay of the game, you could see hints of whats really going on, but not to the extend of what the ending would actually be.
The game discusses the idea of fate and how it can't be changed, I believe that the people that hate the ending hate it because of how abrupt it is and looking at it from the outside looking in, when in reality, you have to look at the ending as (major spoiler) what if we are also beings in a play that's destined to never change their outcomes, such as the same for the characters in the game. In every multiverse, we are just destined to do the same, or die the same, with only little variation and no willpower to change it. I think the epilogue really cements this idea and without it, I would have hated it.
At first, I hated the ending but after thinking about the ending for a while, it made me really like it. It reminded me of something like The Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits.
If you're interested in the game, I highly recommend it, especially during spooky season. The ending is controversial but it shouldn't deter you from buying and playing it, you should come up with your conclusion with how you feel about it because the journey getting there is amazing.
Plays great on steam deck!

Cool
Very engaging. Loved the art style, voice acting and music.
This game is an incredible modernization of the point and click adventure genre. Absolutely excellent storytelling with a great blend of humor and horror and existentialism. The voice acting is impeccable and dripping with LucasArts-like charm, and the quality of life feels like a natural progression of the genre. For instance, fast travel is very granular and works very intuitively with the map, and the only time I got stuck on a puzzle was when I returned to this game after a week or so, and I probably could have figured even that out by examining the items in my inventory. Overall exactly what I wanted from a dark, modern, light horror take on one of my favorite genres.
If you enjoy indie point and click mystery games this is a game you will enjoy, the only con I can think of is that it is a short experience. It took me a little under 8 hours to 100% the game on two playthroughs, but I feel I got my money's worth.
A super nice treat for point and click lovers. The aesthetics, vibes, music, and story got me totally hooked from the demo, so much that I bought it and kept on playing right after the demo ended. Shorter than I expected and maybe the final arc felt a bit rushed, but I still had lots of fun. Zero regrets.
I loved this, the puzzles were a little off the wall but not difficult. the pacing was good, there was intrigue and it kept me interested right until the twist, kudos to the devs for trying to do something original..I look forward to their next game
nice story - excellent voice acting by the main character.
Great adventure game. Loved the art, puzzles and references to the classics. Keen for the next game from the devs.
Excellent story and end, really fun game!
I really liked this one. Don’t let the cartoonish graphics fool you. There are some very dark things happening in Villa Ventana and your character is in the center of them. Your character is new in town and people are dying all over the place. It’s a standard point and click with one autosave and about a dozen manual save slots. The puzzles are very logical and it is usually easy to see what you need to do next. The graphics are bright and nicely done and the voice talent was excellent. My playtime was 8 hours, but that was because I was going for the no hints and no map fast travel achievements. The game world is fairly large. If you don’t use the map, prepare for a lot (and I mean a lot) of walking! Not sure how much, but I feel I would have shaved easily an hour, maybe 2 off my playtime if I would have jumped to locations. Definitely recommend this one for point and click adventure fans!
Interesting story, good writing in a fairly classic point & click with some real nice quality of life mechanics. All in a really nice bite size for a few evenings. Loved it!
Overall I really did like this game - the art style is charming and I like the whole premise of something more sinister going on in this small town. Some of the riddles did admittedly not make a ton of sense to me and I did end up randomly trying to combine and click things because it just wasn't clear what I was supposed to be doing. However, the town is so well designed, with so much detail and so much funny random dialogue with great characters it doesn't really matter.
Though some bits of the plot, mainly the ending, disappointed me, I would still recommend it to anyone who likes a nice little mystery game.
I generally don't like endings that are along the lines of "it was just a dream/hallucination" and having the plot twist be that everything was just a puppet play falls under that category to me. The ending comes very abruptly, I would've loved to revisit the town (the town was too well done to not return to it for the finale imo). This ending felt like the developers either ran out of money (but then why would there be an extra mini-game?) or they were worried that they needed a twist. I think they should've just leaned into the classic "this town is ruled by a cult" premise and had a good ending where you defeat the cult together with the sheriff and a bad ending where Harvey gets killed/ends up as a permanent servant to the shadows (and I fully expected the good ending to involve Harvey writing a tacky but successful pulp fiction novel about the whole experience). I enjoy the execution of a classic genre, even if it's a bit predictable, over forcing a twist.
Its actually a really pretty game. The visuals are fantastic, the voice acting is solid, the characters are OK... nothing to write home about but despite it being incredibly easy, it's a fun experience for a while. There is an unusually large number of places to visit and although there isn't a lot to do in pretty much any of them, pretty much one thing in every place, they give the game a nice feeling.
Then the ending happens. It happens suddenly and it...is... godawful. Like one of those modern "artistic" cop-outs where no lose ends are tied up, nothing is explained, it just ends. Haha, joke's on you consumer, make up your own ending... or maybe buy the sequel that'll totally be out in 7 years probably...maybe. Or not. Like... don't get me wrong... it's a nice little game, beautifully done, high quality for an indie point & click no doubt about it, but the overall length of the game combined with the terrible, T E R R I B L E ending is a bit insulting. It's bad. It's really, really bad. Like what the hell were you thinking kinda bad. Like go release a free update that actually finishes the story kinda bad. Jesus Christ.
Played it in 1 go, very captive, very nice
7/10
Point & Click adventure gem! Slender Threads balances mystery, suspense, and humor through a compelling story and memorable cast of characters. Solid puzzles and a much appreciated fast travel map. I would recommend this game for both those who are curious about point & clicks and veterans in the genre. Glad I picked this one up, looking forward to seeing more adventures from these guys.
awesome plot
Worth the wait. I loved the demos and jumped at the chance to finally play the full release. Logic is sound, some of the achievements are kinda dumb but the story is fun and if you are a fan of the genre this is a perfectly serviceable entry.
This was a lot of fun. Point and Click Adventures live and die by their writing, and while many of the supporting characters are simple archetypes, I laughed out loud repeatedly. I found some of the puzzle solutions slightly obscure, but I'm not great at these games, and I think a more experienced player could manage them. I don't regret buying this game, and I enjoyed almost all of it, but....
I wanted to write about why I think many players, myself included, reacted so negatively to the ending.
It's not as simple as an aversion to big rug-pulling twists. It's that the twist simplifies, rather than complicates, the interesting dramatic dilemma at the center of the writing. "Can we change our fate?" is a meaty thematic question. We all face some version of it in our lives. For the answer to be "Nope! Not even a little bit! You're literally a puppet!" feels cruel to the protagonist, who we've come to like, and disrespectful to us, the audience, for hoping for a more interesting answer.
The problem isn't that it's an emotional downer - it's that we cut away from the character right at the moment of realization. We never see Harvey reckon with this shattering truth, just the evil puppet version of him carrying out crimes. The ending and twist might feel satisfying if we understood how Harvey reacts - does he just keep living his life? Can he not go on any longer? But we never get that. I think the devs were going for an ending that feels like The Sixth Sense, and accidentally wrote something that feels more like the ending of The Sopranos.
Incredible modern point and click game. Graphics are top notch. Story was solid. Just a really captivating point and click. The only flaw: the ending. It’s interesting but makes everything that happened feel for not. Oh well. Still would highly recommend it.
This game is really really good up until it isn't.
I'd been waiting on this game since the prologue first came out and was so excited to finally get my hands on it. The setting, tone, aesthetic, characters, everything is perfect. It's a neat little package of a game that ticked so many boxes for me.
Then the ending undoes everything. Thematically the ending makes sense, it ties in with lots of the ideas presented... but that doesn't mean it's good? or enjoyable? It undoes all the mystery, the plot can be hand waved away, the characters no longer have depth.
I'm giving it a positive review because I really liked about 95% of this game. I just wish it could have ended differently, and I'll still be keeping an eye on this developer.
I really liked the atmosphere of the mystical adventure quest, the puzzles and art style are wonderful. But I was a little upset by the anti-capitalist statements, it spoiled my impressions. And so this game is quite close to the wonderful quests of Double Fine.
Fun, good art and voice acting. Sometimes I lost the bubble on what I was supposed to do and had to use the hint system. Enjoyed the bonus.
no light no shadow
I played the demo for this game when it was first released, and I fell into my typical adventure game strategy of putting items together at random without really understanding what I was making or why. This meant I was fairly blindsided by killing the driver , and I loved that feeling - wow, an actual consequence for my actions for once! I hoped that the full game would capture at least a little of the surprise I felt at having my expectations subverted like that, and I'm happy to report that there were several moments where I was caught off guard in the best way, even knowing how the story was going. There are some very meta jokes that point and click players will appreciate ("I don't know what I need that hair for, just give it to me!") and the stylized art/animation and soundtrack are full of nice little touches that make the game a fun place to spend time in.
great game
My first point and click game, first game i actually looked forward to on steam! i got stuck at some puzzles but for 90% of the game i didn't need a walkthrough. V interesting story too!
Small passion project.
Nice music, good voice acting. The puzzles are fun and not too difficult.
The game has a big emphasize on humor.
I also like that every area and character feels like a lot of effort and thought was put into them.
This is definitely a high quality game.
My only issues with it is that it's a bit short (5 hours) and sadly has no replayability other than wanting to get all the achievements.
Also some paths are inaccessible and never become accessible. Wondering how to open it up or what will happen with it only for it to be never used is a bit anticlimactic.
It's a fun game and I enjoyed playing it.
If you like puzzles and cartoonish horror stories then I would definitely recommend it!
I really enjoyed Slender Threads. So much so that I played through the entire game in one go, on a lazy Sunday session. I had played the prologue when it first came out, so I was thrilled to see the full game had been released. It took me almost 6 hours.
Standout Aspects
~ The art style was unique and interesting. It perfectly complemented the game's eerie yet lighthearted atmosphere.
~ The voice acting was excellent, giving each character a distinct personality. Impressive since you don’t get a lot of background on many of them.
~Most importantly, the story and puzzles were consistently engaging and enjoyable. There were only a couple of moments where the puzzles could have been improved, but as someone who has played a lot of point-and-click games, I know how difficult that is to achieve.
A Couple of Gripes
1. The Achievements
I love achievement hunting in shorter games like this. Forcing a full play-through without using the map for one of the Achievements is a terrible design choice, especially in a point-and-click game. It artificially hampers the experience rather than adding meaningful challenge. That single achievement guarantees I won’t replay the game, when otherwise, I might have gone back to find them all just for fun.
2. The Ending
I won’t spoil it, but I know a lot of other people didn’t like the ending either. My issue isn’t with the idea of the ending itself (though I wasn’t a fan of that either), but with the execution. It felt abrupt, disconnected, and tacked on. If the transition to the finale (the epilogue) had done more to blend with the atmosphere of the rest of the game, it wouldn’t have felt so jarring. As it stands, it felt less like a natural conclusion and more like an awkward departure from the rest of the game’s tone.
All in all I think the gameplay and story are strong enough that despite the ending, I’d wholeheartedly recommend the game.
What a delightful game. I'm a sucker for this kind of adventure games.
It took me 7.4 hours to finish it, which I thought was short, partly because I enjoyed myself so much with the game. I will honestly say I am glad I was able to buy this game at a discount, because paying full price for a rather short game, I find quite pricey.
The voice acting is very good, so is the story. The graphics are atmospheric and fine. There is also humor present in the game, occasionally I found myself grinning.
Conclusion: definitely buy it! (but only if the game is on sale).
A Love Letter to Point-and-Click Adventures
What a fun little horror point-and-click game!
I had a really good time playing this, and especially the voice acting, music, and art are top-notch. I think this is a very good game for fans of the genre.
The hint system isn't quite as useful as I would have liked it to be at points and there was a bit of aimless wandering but when you reach that next high point in the story it more than makes up for it.
Also, have I mentioned how good the voice acting is? :D
I do have to mention that I think the conclusion to the game isn't quite as impactful as I think it was meant to be, it felt a little rushed. The devs also decided on a bit of a controversial ending that is hard to pull off in general, and in my opinion they didn't quite get there.
But still, I really enjoyed the story and the overall topics of fate and creating art.
Fun creepy adventure game. I really like the the hint system doesn't give everything away and that the puzzles mostly made sense. The voice acting was top notch and I'll definitely play more from the dev in the future.
Let's put it this way: what was good in this game — the voice acting, art, animations and humor I enjoyed immensely. It's a lovely point&click but the game is first very short and ends illogically seemingly without reason as if the author of the story just felt it was time to do so - like when you got immersed in a good prelude only to have someone abruptly cut you off. Secondly, the plot ending they picked for this game spoils the overall impression. It feels rushed, incomplete and as if the devs were in a hurry to release.
Let's be honest, it's not a puzzle or highly complicated logic game where you come for gameplay in point & clicks like this one you come for a good plot. And this game hardly delivers in that regard.
Considering the good and that there is no neutral review option I will leave a thumbs up for an indie studio. If you get this game you may even find some enjoyment in it as I did but Blyts can do a lot better than this in my opinion.
*Sigh* If only Steam had a neutral review option...
The review is spoiler free except for one technical achievement. So no story spoiler here. ;)
Slender Threads is a great game with a complex narrative. It tells the story of Harvey Green, an aspiring writer who spends his days as a traveling salesman, stopping for a night in the seemingly tranquil town of Villa Ventana. His sole purpose is to sell books and gather inspiration for his writing, but soon after his arrival, strange events begin to unfold. There seem to be eerie creatures at the edge of the forest, mysterious disappearances, and inexplicable occurrences. Will Harvey be able to unravel all the mysteries? Will he even survive his own story as the town becomes drenched in blood?
This game is a perfect example of a great story with poor execution, hence the 6/10 score. On the bright side, the graphics are good, the music perfectly fits the atmosphere, and the answers to all the mysteries are genius.
However, there are major caveats. First, as a completionist, I found issues with the achievements available at the time of this review. In my humble opinion, achievements should encourage players to discover Easter eggs, explore different aspects of the game, and engage with new content—not impose restrictions or set playing conditions. The final achievement, which requires completing the entire game without using fast travel, significantly diminished my enjoyment. This was especially frustrating because the game offers little direction to guide players, causing me to wander aimlessly for much of my playtime, only to realize the next clue is at the other side of the town.
Another issue that worsened my experience was the lack of clear indicators for when time has passed. At times, I believed I had finished an area when, in reality, I only needed to wait a bit longer for an event to trigger. Since there's no way to notify the player that something has changed, a lot of time ends up wasted.
Similarly, there is no clear rule for when items will disappear from your inventory. Most vanish after a single use, but some don’t. This limited my creativity since I was never sure if an item would remain available. The same goes for trying to discuss with inanimate objects—I got blocked so many times early in the game that I eventually forgot to use the feature altogether.
Lastly, this game is best played over a short period to avoid forgetting important clues, given how little guidance is provided. This is particularly challenging when trying to minimize the use of fast travel for completionist purposes.
I don’t necessarily recommend this game, but I wouldn’t tell you to avoid it either. The story is its strongest point, but there are so many small issues that hinder enjoyment that I can’t wholeheartedly suggest playing it. Some mechanics feel clunky, and the pacing is often unintuitive. Play it if you have patience and enjoy fun, creepy mysteries. The ending is worth it, and all the little hints along the way will finally make sense. But please, don’t attempt it as a completionist—unless you really like walking. XD
As a small side note, if the devs ever read this, I think it would have been fun to learn more about the town’s inhabitants. There are so many inanimate objects you can interact with and inspect, yet very little information about the villagers that isn’t directly tied to advancing the story.
This was a blast to play and the ending totally surprised me! Enjoyed the banter of the people across the town and the hand drawn art was amazing! Worth the purchase!
Spooky comedy point’n’click. Although being a traveling book salesman already sounds like a nightmare, Blyts developvrs added paranormal tricks into the mix to make sure there’s never a dull moment in the life of Harvey Green. And I’m pretty sure they didn’t ask his opinion.
Harvey is not only selling books, he also tries to write them. As one of the game scenes show – his quality of work is… questionable. Let’s call it that. Arriving at a tiny town of Villa Ventana, not-necessarily-gifted novelist stumbles into a portentous plot that involves… himself? Hmmm… What ensues has nothing to do with books or writing or traveling, for that matter, but it is a fun journey with sinister magic, old school adventure references, caricatural characters and visually delicious foreboding set in a cartoon twilight. Harvey’s natural curiosity along with naïve awkwardness will lead him down the path that would surpass his most ambitious manuscript idea and will forever transform him. He managed to interest someone in a book during all these shenanigans, by the way. Not his, of course.
The narration is quirky enough to make a combination like horror and comedy work (which is a feat), so it’s floating somewhere between spooky but cute or humorous but ominous. There are scenes that will remind you of famous point’n’clicks of the past, and archetypes/stereotypes of all kinds are available for a player’s amusement. It’s just right to keep the story reasonably paced, never linger on anything too long, and to fulfill the main purpose – entertainment. Puzzles match this set-up to a T. Classic environment/dialogue/inventory system is neither challenging nor insultingly easy, just hovering around “medium-light” sign and, too, mostly entertaining rather than demanding. Additional plus for exceptionally smooth QOL features; wouldn’t think I’d notice that in adventures unless it really sucks, but when it’s this polished - it stands out.
As are the visuals that fully embrace two-genre energy managing to look equally cozy and eerie at the same time. Nice blend of 2D and 3D pulls dark shadows and slightly distorted features together with warm lighting and cartoonish models into an eye pleaser. And as is the sound. There’s a cinematic, haunting track going on in the background of Harvey’s adventures, and a fantastic voice-over for game’s plethora of characters – a melting sight for my adventure loving heart that knows that only few indies can pull this off. And this one did it in the loveliest way possible.
“Slender Threads” is a fun one. A kind of game that comes along not to restructure the top 10s of point’n’click legacy, but the kind that comes to deliver a super-boost to an always-searching adventure player, wandering the void of countless run-of-the-mill titles, looking for a next great journey. It reinstates a bit of faith that this niche genre can withstand all - a dry spell and periods of being forgotten or onslaught of never-ending mediocrity with large volumes and low quality. It’s telling you that it’s still here, tempting – come and take a bite; and if you do, you’ll have enough energy to last until the next wild ride. Which is just around the corner, of course.
This game is absolutely awesome!
The voice acting is great, it really looks great and I enjoyed the story line a lot.
The puzzles weren't too hard, although I am grateful for Harvey's notebook!
Being able to use just the mouse was also quite nice, haven't been able to do that in many games recently.
Slender Threads is a thriller/semi-side scrolling/puzzle-based/narrative story and it really took me by surprise.
i definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good murder mystery and likes puzzles, atmosphere and just good old fun :)
Absolutely worth the wait! After playing the prologue, I've was so excited to play this and it didn't disappoint. Great story line and interactions. Puzzles make sense!
Treat yourself to a copy of this game and enjoy the ride!
Really good game, interesting story, nice graphics, good voice acting.
But a bit short and very easy. I got stuck once on something I missed, but flew through it after that.
Short, fun game. I waited so long for this to come out. I loved the art style and story. Some parts were a bit challenging, but I was able to work them out with the help of the notebook. I am so grateful they added a fast travel system because it kept the game from becoming tedious. What a cool story and twist on the idea of fate. Definitely recommend you play this if you're looking for a chill, short puzzle game. 8.5/10
Not bad...
An unexpected ending.
I would have preferred a more traditional story.
