Amazing music and visuals. I really enjoyed the game as an audiophile and an achievement hunter.
Absolute banger of a game.
Soundtrack hits, buttons are responsive, visuals are wonderful, game play is super easy to get into, and I mean really get into, like bob your head sway back and forth while flicking your controller to the beat into.
As far as rhythm games go, this one in my opinion has a pretty mid to low difficulty overall. If you're looking to perfect through the fire and the flames like a masochist, this isn't it. What it is though, is a thoroughly enjoyable game that does everything right to engage the player and keep them entertained. Just a fun worthwhile experience every time it is booted up.
If you're into rhythm games (or looking to try one out) this is it.
Drop it down low. Drop it down low.
Aaaah, much better than the first. It seems many complaints were addressed, most notably that gameplay is synced to the music, as opposed to stuff just going on with a track playing. Adversely, the gameplay now has you in a stationary position, which the original was a (poor) platformer broken-up with enemy encounters. Stationary combat, while seemingly stiff, allows the game to properly represent itself as a rhythm game.
The interface is much more fitting of a rhythm game, with directional attack prompts a good distance from Klang, instead of being mashed right on him. However in my experience, responding to the rather large prompts wholly distract me from viewing Klang's attacks and animations.
The story.... is a story. Like many gameplay-centric indie games, it has a cryptic plot that progresses as you earn points from the arcade mode (where you select tracks; unlocked as you progress) and face bosses that further progress the plot. There's an encyclopedia that makes you aware of the games settings and events, but it doesn't help piece elements together. Again, it's a gameplay-centric game, so make of it what you will. There's even an option to make story elements go away, and you just cycle between bosses and earning points to fight them.
Sound... it's a masterpiece if you're into EDM. Artists worldwide contributed excellent tracks of which I found none boring or "not my cup of tea." Having Nhato songs is a particular treat, as he contributes to stuff like Beatmania.
So overall, is it worth your time and paper? Yes. Don't be frustrated the first few times you play the first track, it's confusing at first and isn't straightforward like notechart games. Once you get the sense of direction down, the rest comes naturally. OSU players might feel right at home, then again they might find it brain-dead compared to the mayhem that typically comes with OSU's gameplay and gimmick variety.
Jack-in, brave Klang, Sonus awaits.
Great game, reminded me of Osu! Music is great, story is enjoyable even if you did not played Klang 1. The game has a lot of customization options in case you want an easier experience, want different control options or don't care about the story. The game itself is a bit short, but the good songs, simple but great gameplay and extra diffculty challenges help with that.
Unfortunately it ditches the platforming aspect of the first instead of refining it, but the game is a solid rhythm/action game, good tracks and nice albeit simple mechanics.
This is a great addition to the rhythm game library, I recommend using the mouse over the controller if you feel is a bit too easy in the beginning.
I love this game. The simple 3-note system (click, swipe, hold) combines with a strong emphasis on precision and efficiency of movement to create a satisfyingly deep challenge pretty early on.
The tracks are well varied while sticking to the theme and sound great. The bosses lend a unique style to the gameplay for each track they appear in, which adds a lot of personality to them, but doesn't make the songs too predictable or samey in how they play. Masterfully done!
There aren't as many songs as I'd like, but more than enough to justify the price.
Here's to hoping for an arcade expansion DLC!
As someone who hasnt played OSU. this feels like a good entry point for my mouse tracking skills. Overall this game is a good recommend.
The Good:
The rest of the music are good and fitting to the theme of the game
The story and characters are really interesting and mysterious (I havent played Klang 1 but not knowing Klang 1's story wont hurt the experience) more than enough to make you curious about the world
Has potential for user created levels
the artstyle is pretty unique with its blending of CG and 2D art. has the Cyber techno vibe with a hint of oriental
The animated fights during gameplay are real eye candy. left me expecting more
The Bad:
Really dislike some tracks and they don't really fit to the aesthetic. The suspects of this are the ones with vocals. (sheelam for example)
Sound Effects arent as impactful as I thought it would be. Hitting the notes feel very quiet even with the sfx volume up
with Multiple monitors on even in fullscreen. my mouse can go outside and to the other monitor.
Its good but I miss the platforming in Klang 1. They removed the platforming and focused just on the rhythm part. The visuals can get overwhelming and I often miss dashes because I just dont see it in the chaos. Its also hard AF. Overall I still think its a good rhythm game because the controls feel snappy, the graphics are pretty and songs are good imo.
The game is great! I also really like that there are a lot of Progressive Psy Trance tracks in it, I wish there were more, maybe calmer ones. Like Neelix type of stuff.
And whoever designed Boss #6 - Joker can fuck right off! Everything was kinda easy going and then Joker comes a long with his weird as beats and things all over the screen, I never had to redo a Boss so many times, only go through with 76%.
Every other Boss I got S Rank but Joker only B lol
Great game with cool and challenging songs and interesting mechanics. Definitely recommend all rhythm games fans to check it out!
So many banging tracks! What a great soundtrack! Vast improvement from the first game as far as the controls to hit the notes! This game was so fun! Fast speed is tough! Story is simple but a real trip!
Really awesome rhythm game! Definitely recommend this one!
The music is great, the gameplay is simple and engaging.
The story elements got annoying after a while, but they probably make more sense if you've played the first Klang. Luckily they can be disabled if you're not into that.
If you have any interest in rhythm games, definitely give this a try.
Disclaimer: Review perspetive from the most casual rhythm game player that is happy just seeing an S rating at all.
I've played a whole bunch of the demo when it came out, fell in love with the mouse-only control scheme and the dynamic feeling of combat. Yes, it sounds weird for the genre, but it feels just so damn satisfying doing sections properly, keeping half an eye on the action in the background.
The other control schemes basically transform the game entirely, but I only tried them briefly. I'm used to failing faster-paced songs halfway through in other games because my brain suddenly can't tell two input buttons apart or something, but mouse-only just works for me. I'll never be good enough to perfect anything but I don't even care, I just enjoy the gameplay.
The narrative bits are surpsisingly enjoyable too!
No idea if I'd recommend it specifically for rhythm game fans. I just don't know what you crazy people look for in a game! But I do recommend the demo for a good idea of how it plays.
While technically a sequel, this game is very different to the original, falling more in-line with typical rhythm games. It's not a bad thing, in fact it makes the game more accessible to everyone! But it is something to keep in mind if you played the first game.
In Klang 2 you will face a single opponent at a time, fighting them to the tune of one of 30 tracks. While on the surface the game may remind you of things like Osu!, each opponent has a 'style" to them, which affects the location and spread of the notes you have to hit. The beat patterns are constant, the actual button presses you have to do are not. Additionally, each track features a Fast mode that plays the song at 150% speed, and more often than not against a different opponent. These battles often underline just how wildly easier/harder a track can be with a different opponent.
If you're someone whose sense of rhythm isn't the greatest then do not fear! Rhythm only really matters if you're trying to score high. At it's core you can play Klang 2 like a reflex-based game, though I think that not following the rhythm does have a heavily negative effect on the enjoyability of the game. That being said, some songs have a hard-to-follow rhythm even if you're well versed in rhythm games, partially due to the songs themselves, partially due to the charts sometimes having to skip some notes to not become absolute hell, which in turn makes them a bit more confusing to follow at the "Perfect" pace.
On top of all the rhythm elements, Klang 2 also has a story and, without spoiling anything, it actually can be understood more readily than the story of the first game. If story in rhythm games is not your thing, you can chose to completely ignore it, and disable the story dialogue via options, so that's a handy feature.
Overall I think Klang 2 is a solid game, even though I'm missing the hectic feel of the original. I'm sure it can be enjoyed at a variety of skill levels, and has a few hours of songs, dialogue and cutscenes for you to play your way through. Full completion time (all S ranks) was 11.1 hours for me.
i usually don't play rhythm games but klang 2 is super fun and addictive.
The gameplay is simple but really exciting and the music are absolute bangers
I'm only an hour into the game but it seems like the platforming has been removed... while it's still fun and I enjoy rhythm games, without that aspect its more of a normal experience. I wish there was a neutral option.
I remember when I played Klang for the first time in college and it was amazing. I’m not even sure how I found it, but years later here I am playing Klang 2! The game is Superb, the tracks are all bangers, the story is amazing, the lore makes me want to know even more of everything about the game and its characters, the gameplay is simple yet complex with most tracks like how Pirate king Trickster makes you swap across the stage on arrow hits. This is THE ONLY Rhythm game that I have ever went and gotten a S rank on every track! If this doesn't show how dedicated I was for the game you are crazy to not pick this game up! I wish I could give this game a 100 out of 10. I'm so ready for more! Amazing Job Tinimations!!
Awesome music. Excellent Graphics, Challenging gameplay, this is a Hella fun game!
Played the demo and fell in love with the game playing the insane difficulty mode.
I love rhythm games, and the time it took me to "unlock" and get a feel for the controls is lower than with any other PC rhythm game I've played, which speaks to the great audio-visual design of this one.
I've currently played through about 10 stages of the full game, and it does not disappoint.
I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who enjoys rhythm games, and please do try the demo if you're on the fence about getting the full version. The harder challenges there and in the full version are phenomenal!
I played the demo couple times while waiting 2 years for release of this game and I can say that the game is perfect! The music selection on this game is awesome as there are not much rhythm game for edm music and the visuals are on the top. If you are familiar with rhythm games this game is definitely worth its price.
