Millions of kids grew up playing S&S in their schools, late at night on the family computer's browsers or in their bedroom on a rainy Saturday morning. These games have been played over half a billion times, and for good reason. Swords and Sandals is nostalgia, Swords and Sandals is life.
Now, the world's favourite gladiator game series has arrived on Steam for the very first time ever.
The Swords and Sandals Classic Collection comes with five of the greatest S&S games ever made (and two bonus games!) and three art galleries featuring behind the scenes images from the series long and illustrious past.

- Swords and Sandals II : Emperor's Reign
- Swords and Sandals III : Gladiae Ultratus

Swords and Sandals II : Emperor's Reign
Arise Gladiator. Released from your chains in a dark cell and thrust into the arena you must fight for your life, fame and fortune. The evil Emperor Antares now reigns supreme in Doomtrek and the gladiatorial games are bigger and more epic than ever as twenty legendary fighters enter the arena. If it is your destiny you will vanquish your rivals, defeat the Emperor and become an immortal.
Swords and Sandals III : Gladiae Ultratus
Part three of the great series hurls you into the Gladiae Ultratus, the most dangerous and spectacular gladiator tournament in all Tritonia. Forget all you thought you knew about Swords & Sandals and prepare yourself for the quest of a thousand lifetimes! 24 powerful new Arena Champions await you, from mighty stone giants to automaton robots from another world. Are you ready to become the ultimate gladiator? (Note, this is the SOLO edition of the game. Alas, the multiplayer servers died many years ago but will be reborn in S&S VI, coming in 2020!)
Swords and Sandals IV: Tavern Quests
The Swords and Sandals saga continues as our embattled gladiators step out from the arena and into a wider and more dangerous world. Up to four gladiators compete in a variety of minigames, adventures and battles set across an epic eight realms of danger and adventure. Featuring over 40 minigames, local multiplayer action with up to 3 friends and all the gladiatorial action the game series is famous four. It's turn based combat meets Mario Party in Brandor's biggest board game crazy.
Swords and Sandals Crusader
Brandor erupts into chaos and war as the realm's greatest heroes and villains take to the battlefield. Lay siege to castles in the pouring rain or send your cavalry against a horde of skeletons in the heat of the scorching desert. This is a turn based strategy game in the style of Defender of the Crown, featuring army combat and management, a simple RPG progression system and a special 'Survival mode' which pits you against your foes one after the other. Control giant iron robots, fifty foot high demons and great apes and shake the very foundations of Brandor. Put on your sandals again and become the finest crusader in the realm!
*BONUS* Swords and Sandals Mini Fighters
Swords and Sandals returns - this time, faster, tougher and tinier! Welcome to S&S MINI FIGHTERS! This was a version of S&S 2 made in 2011 and originally designed for mobile phones, it was renamed and re-released in 2018 as Mini Fighters and featured very fast battles and very small gladiators!
*BONUS* Gross Out : Battle For Sludge Valley
The one and only time Swords and Sandals was ever reskinned, this curious game from 2007 features a cast of misfits defending their town from an evil property developer using Fart Cannons, Rotten Eggs and all manner of disgusting weapons in a hilarious and bizarre showdown across 7 locations. Made using the Swords and Sandals II combat engine.

Holds up decently well for an old flashgame.
Exactly as i remembered it, for both good and bad! Whilst i was excited to finally play further then the demo's ever allowed me as a child, it soon becomes apparent that the same bugs from said demo's went with it to steam too.
SaS 2: In matches against NPCs where the goal is to "draw first blood", NPCs will often completely bypass all of your armour for no apparent reason via "taunt", one shotting you, and becoming more common an issue as you rank up. As the taunt skill doesnt consider enemy stats, armour, range, or any other effects, it also means that making a full charisma-only build will bulldoze the entire campaign story.
NPC AI is mindless, following no specific strategy or planning. Higher level enemies will either endlessly attack thin air, or use their high Athletic skill to endlessly jump from one end of the arena to the other, constantly, at random. As a result, as fun as the game was, this has made completing the game impossibly boring, unplayable beyond a certain point.
Its very odd that something with such a typically easy fix...is still not fixed!
SaS 3:
Very fun! Main issue involves the VERY sloooowwww progression once you reach the higher levels. Most of the time you end up having to wait for the shops to randomly replenish their stock, as otherwise you wont be able to find the right item to beat the next roadblock boss. This only happens once you beat at least 10 random enemys in the arena, and even then your desired item may not even be in the shops.....so another 10 it is! Over and over and over....all to one soundtrack in rinse and repeat fights.
Best option is to play as a magic build, where the boss's are often so inconsistant in strength, that you can sometimes skip back-to-back chapters having one shotted arena champions one after the other without ever leveling up in preperation. Then a very hard boss will come along....and once he's beaten, 3 very easy boss's come up.
In summary, the game is either too slow, or too fast. There's little balance.
SaS 4: Just started playing with my sister in multiplayer (whom also used to play with me 15-odd years ago!). We were playing the full version just yesterday for the first time....and Demo-era bugs just kept coming and coming, quickly souring some of the nostalgia of the experience.
Sometimes at a game's start, your Gladiator will randomly be given advanced tier weapons and armour from nowhere, despite being a low level, forcing a reset. As for progression....
at the end of every match, each player gets a chance to spend their earnt gold in order to purchase extra equipment and gear for their gladiator, via the games shop system. However, the shops stock will fully replace and regenerate its entire goods every time you enter and exit the menu. This leads to confusion between players trying to obtain similar items to their co-players, and leads to a really dated scenario where your having to click enter and exit on the shops over and over untill it randomly generates the item you want from it.
And again, the same issue from SaS 1/2 is still present in 4.....your get often one shotted by taunts that seemingly ignore stats, armour, or anything else.
This could've been the very best of the whole collection, but these extremely dated bugs STILL being present from the demo days really sorta spoils it. It FEELS like its just an extended demo.
SaS Crusaders: Same old, same old. Difficulty levels across the game vary wildly, and the lack of helpful interfaces during gameplay makes for a confusing experience at times.
The game feels like the most polished out of the entire collection by far, with no bugs ive yet to ever encounter. The real issues come from the gameplay itself, which in some places lags in comparison to other features of it that are better implemented. The story for example, features levels that are seemingly put in more for filler then anything else, with some levels being excessivly difficult, interlaced with ones that are pointlessly easy. The game lacks incentive for being replayed once an initial playthrough has been completed.
In conclusion:
The games are really really fun! But the unpatched bugs that are still present from the demo days, is still holding it back. I boot up my PC on my time off work to try and grind some more SaS 2 and 3, only to get fed up of the bugs reducing progress to an irritating crawl. It seems like the developer has indeed applied the odd patch here and their to the game since its addition to the steam platform, so it just baffles me why such obvious, seemingly simple issues have never been fixed.
The collection is a 7/10. But with the bugs removed, the pure version of the games standing as intended would be a 9/10.
It's goddamn Swords and Sandals, exactly as you remembered it. Hours and hours of slapstick gladiatorial fun to be had. There's even some additional features and bug-fixes peppered in to smooth out the experience (Fix for too much camera zoom-out in SaS2, Yeti nerf in SaS3, early board-unlocks and full XP gain for all human players in SaS4, and many fan mods bundled in)
If nothing else, it's great to be able to directly support Oliver Joyce for the hours of entertainment these games brought to school kids in the mid-2000s.
This game is pure dopamine in a digital screen.
These games are now the best way to relive some of your Flash nostalgia. They have community support, but they also still have some of the silly jank that they are known for.
Do not buy the Redux versions of these games, as they are actually bad in every conceivable way.
Just like how i used to enjoy the flash versions with the mods being a rlly coolio add on
Very nostalgic. I get that RNG is part of the gameplay, but it is way too over the top. Even with 80% ''hit chances'' your hit very often miss or get blocked..
S&S 1 and 2 are still cool af, but the rest was kind of mid, even childhood nostalgia couldn't make the experience any better *Proceeds to get 100% achevements*
The flash game we all loved has been reborn.
same
when the nostalgia remembers to die down you realize all 4 fucking games can be beaten by simply putting all your points in intellect and spamming molten death ignoring the fact that the "AI" in this game was programmed by a blind kid with downs that accidentally took a shit on the keyboard and ended up coming with whatever the combat ai is the games are purely RNG a solid 99% of the time and also S&S Crusaders is so bad even the random dialogue texts say "i cant believe this piece of shit took 7 months to make"
oh also the music in 3 and 4 is actually fucking sick tho
GLADIATOR, GLADIATOR GLADIATOR GLADIATOR,
I remember Burning my thighs with old laptop back in 2008 playing this old flash game good times.
The nostalgia... Still awesome
Epic.

Actually bonkers that this sort of thing is even on Steam.
Great collection overall, its also nice that you can play the modded versions, look up to see more modded versions. Grew up with these games, great developer. Good luck on your next adventures!

Classic flash game series with a bunch of very useful bug fixes + community mods. Definitely the best way to play and experience these games today.
10/10 used to play this in primary school in the 2000s
