A visually and emotionally stunning game. I was drawn to it largely because of the art and loved it's uniquely beautiful yet confronting style throughout, but I didn't expect this game to touch my heart in the ways it did. Can't recommend it enough!
It's beautifully drawn, haunting, and unique. I do have to be honest and admit that the actual gameplay is pretty slow going. I don't actually remember that much of the game itself aside from how it looks. I can't call it bad but I think it could have been much more of an actual game.
"Minute of Islands" is an exceptional piece of media in terms of visual design, atmosphere and story!
The hand drawn world is gorgeus; colorful yet somber, the atmosphere is apocalyptic, brooding and melancholic, the story of an herculean task and the confrontatitions between zeal, neglect, delusion and self-imposed-sacrifice is one of quite an emotional rollercoaster, while competently written. Very high quality throughout.
But the gameplay is "just" a walking simulator with light puzzles, some lore collectibles and backtracking. It is very slow paced, which is itentional (I think) to immerse you in the mood, but it can maybe be too cumbersome for some folks.
Nevertheless, a unique and bold media experience and worth a playthrough!
"No one is meant to hold the world upon their shoulders by themselves"
11/10 Go easy on yourselves people <3
This is pretty tough to recommend, but I'd give it a 5/10. This is a story game, the puzzles and platforming are secondary. Really, they're only there to be a break from the walking simulator the main part of this game is. Not a criticism, just saying that if you're looking for interesting platforming or puzzles, you won't find them.
The story of this game is wonderful, the art style is really impressive too. It surrounds themes of death, life, work, family, and insecurity. I'd say it's worth buying on a 50% or more sale.
There's so many bugs, poor design choices, and unaddressed issues. There is no chapter select, there is no keybind change, all cutscenes are unskipable, overly long cutscenes, the crawling animations are so godamn slow, the animations stutter, the textures changing before and after animations are inconsistent, textures will appear on the wrong layers, there's a tree that will not stop blinking out of existence, etc.
I enjoyed it, but the amount of problems it has that have gone unaddressed makes it hard to recommend. Buy it on a sale, and use a walkthrough if you want the achievements without spending another 4-5 hours of your time.
Very cute, story rich game with easy puzzles.
Visually, the game is beautiful. The levels themselves are quite thoughtful, with excellent colors and stylistics. Locations in general are interesting to explore because they are visually different. It is unclear why there are levels with music boxes at all. It does not affect anything, and are designed as if to "stretch" the gameplay. Of course, you can consider them as drug-trip due to spores, but still it does not affect anything. A great ending, symbolizing the acceptance of reality. Overall, the game is interesting and worth spending time on, but I won't say that I'll ever run it a second time.
More story than game, but the world is gorgeous and intriguing, and the story is beautifully told.
My newest game. The graphics are great, the control sometimes irritated me. The story and soundtracks are great. 9/10 for me
This is a very simple game, but these are not simple characters. Play this game if you're open to open to feeling quite sad.
Brings me back to the memories of The Heart of Darkess. a classic game back in the day that does the whole journey through a land like this. but not so much... Idk. I think of it when I see games like it. and also enjoy games like it.
I recommend. this pretty chill experience of a gameplay style you don't see as much anymore.
The Backgrounds are great and interact-able just like Heart of Darkness, you play as a (kid?) mc who uses the background puzzles to proceed though the levels. I enjoy this when its done right.. and this game does it right. A perfect journey though a strange unique setting.
(For those who are too young to experience it. https://youtu.be/hONIn3xdHP4?si=1FeI-gxdTd1flAFT here is a heart of darkness video. I recommend it to others who enjoyed this game.)
I recommend it on the artstyle and creative decisions. I wish I could see more games like this. but its a dying genre or more or less a overlooked one.
Nice.
This is tough to recommend.
On one hand, it has extremely tedious game-play, clunky platforming and it's difficult to even identify what the core game-play loop is.
On the other, it's a beautifully realized world, a touching story and art design that left me awe-struck. Near the end I found myself tearing up at how poignant it all was.
If you're someone who can forgive lackluster game-play for good writing/dialogue, world-building and sheer style, I can give this a recommend.
A short but very powerful journey through a series of bizarre and mesmerizing islands. I had my issues with the controls and unskippable animations, but the game seems to want you to really take your time to take all of it in, and to be fair, it's worth it.
Great game at showcasing the essence of moving forward and letting go when necessary in life.
The story itself is very fulfilling. The design is very rich that i got mesmerized when i saw the game for the first time.
Sadly as everyone else says here the game is rather slow with a lot of confusing locations and stages with improper guide for the player.
Yes we do have the omni but it just point where you need to be not where to navigate your way too it.
I loved the game i really do but it could have been better with the platforming and navigation.
For the last problem is very long loading sequences. I played Far: Lone Sails before this but this one surely lacking a certain aspect i wanted from an indie game.
Other than that i highly recommend this game for achievement hunters and peoples who wanted to... sigh.. Play an hand painted story book with sluggish phasing.
Story 9/10
Art 10/10
Controls 8/10
Overall 7.5/10
Truly a unique and beautiful exprrience
Minute of Islands is a different take on post-apocalyptic games. Instead of presenting way to survive or change the world around us Minute of Islands tries to focus on how we can move forward and live within a dying world. While I think there were tedious sections of the game, the slower pace and somber atmosphere gave way to a beautiful experience. The story and themes may not be the clearest but I think if you stop and give this game a chance you will see something beautiful, if only for a minute.
Incredible visuals, exceptional color work, atmospheric and very immersive music, and a game full of talent with an emotional finale. It left a deep impact on me.
