Reaching the top to challenge the Necromancer is no easy feat, the pathways are narrow and full of traps: chainsaws, spikes, cannons, flamethrowers... On top of that, the floor behind you will start exploding if you take too long!
Can you stop this madness?
Or will you give up?
Game Features

i won't lie, i only acquired this game because the design is so cute. like oh good lord. it is so pretty, so tasteable. But the game Experience is ok(haven't ended yet so)
Its one of my all time favorite games
Love the game, love the soundtrack,
LOVE IT!!
You Died But A Necromancer Revived You is a game that is charming but hard.
The rules are simple:
Don't die
Get to the top.
I love it.
Very fun and addictive, with a unique style and a nice ost to go with it
Obnoxious trial and error simulator with some luck based survival thrown in. Costs ten dollars and the main mode can be finished in about an hour.
Almost every room is just a spiral. That must of saved a lot of development time, having almost every room just be a spiral. But it's a spiral surrounded by spikes, and the game generates platforms in tiles yet the player has free movement. So because the path to the exit is entirely a linear spiral players have no need for free movement since they will only be moving in a linear path. So all the free movement does is allow the player to randomly become misaligned from the tile grid, and clip into a hazard. They can also use this misalignment to just barely avoid some hazards, but doing such micro movements in a time based confined space is not even remotely viable on average.
The game is randomly generated so random it will generate very dense sets of obstacles which require a much tighter timing to run through; yet the player is still punished for taking too long on a stage. So if the game generates a bad layout that fundamentally takes longer to get through, the player is punished for that and may run out of time and die. The game also has a few random hazards which will strike tiles at random, so if this random hazard comes after you while you are waiting for another hazard to stop blocking your path you're dead; again by chance. You physically can't move out of the way fast enough even if you backtrack into the gradually vanishing platforms behind you because the space you have to move around in is so limited.
The final set of floors is the most straight up embodiment of random chance based gameplay the game has to offer. As it generates very very specific types of rooms with very very specific responses required from the player to survive. So learning those responses and being reset each time while learning them is; trial and error. Then the very final floor with the final confrontation is absolutely just, die over and over and over and replay the previous floors over and over and over every single time you die to a hazard you need to memorize the response to in order to survive; which requires you to die multiple times to learn the mechanics and thus replay the previous floors numerous times. Completely inept design, a waste of time.
Other than the nice animations and character variety, the base game of this could of been made as a part of a jam. Almost every floor is just a palette swap with some new traps added in or palette swapped. Almost every floor is just a spiral with traps randomly spawned along it.
As mentioned the main game can be completed in about an hour. This costs ten dollars. So you're supposed to replay game on alternate difficulty settings just to squeeze any semblance of value out of this. And the experience itself is just, die over and over to awkward free movement in a confined space where random chance dictates how playable each floor is and whether a random behaviour trap will come after you when it's not possible to avoid it or not.
Great to play in small 10-15 minute bursts. Very hard, but fair. I've barely made it halfway through the gauntlet after hundreds of tries!
All in all, a fun skill-based game. Especially recommended if you are in your teens/early 20's, mainly due to it being hard to play if your reflexes aren't in your prime.
yeah sorry as much as i can see that the people who made this game really gave it their all i have to say every fucking approach to game design taken here was for the worst
its incredibly short but its padded out by its teetering difficulty to a tremendous degree so much so even on my first time i still beat it under 30 minutes, using difficulty to make a game arbitrarily longer is just lame, doesn't help that this tactic is taken even further by making it randomized which just makes it so youre guaranteed not to ever really get a complete feel for the gameplay, so there's just this static cap for getting better at things, it takes a warioware approach of having to scan everything quick enough while being under a time limit for every level but it just puts a bandage on a fundamentally flawed choice of game design to make it feel harder than it is
also i've died more times to just falling off the fucking map from holding the button for half a second more than needed to than anything else in the game, oh and one thing about the randomization that comes back to bite the game in the end is how despite never being exactly the same everything still feels fundamentally similar and therefore makes it even more repetitive thanks to that, not only that but the randomized floor design can make it way easier or way more bullshit than it needs to be, like putting an obstacle one tile away from the start when you're supposed to analyze everything because you can't wait at all and the start isn't suppsoed to be as dangerous as everything else, or when there're four obstacles overlapping each other with bizarre cooldown times that makes it so there's only a fourth of a second to get past even one of these. and the fact that ultra hard is even an option really makes it feel like the designers dont know what a fun game is supposed to be, especially considering that this was the original difficulty, imagine how the game would be if they went through with that as the default. nobody would like it, and im sorry but i cant recommend this game to anyone except people who really wanna test how much they can take without making mistakes, which isn't that many besides me, and it isn't even made in a good way.
oh by the way i never did multiplayer but the idea of that sounds like a pain since this is on a computer and my friends usually have too much to do anyways. sorry, i know this game was made with passion but you really gotta take steps back to see if the design of the whole game you built it upon will stay standing otherwise itll crash down and break a million backs
pretty good

If you like challenging games that you can play in short bursts than you'll probably enjoy this game.
Disclaimer :
I'm good friend with one of the developers.
And I made the french and portuguese translation for free because I wanted to support him and I love the game.
You Died but a Necromancer Revived You, is a small but brilliant indie game with lots of heart.
Basically it’s about using only “up, down, left, right” to get trough spiraling pathways full of devious traps. You will die a lot, but will be back instantly on your feet (thanks Mr. Necromancer). The levels are randomly generated but it’s really well balanced and it’s uncommon for them to feel unfair.
Sure sometimes you get some nasty trap combos but I think I never saw an impossible obstacle. 99% of the times you can blame only yourself. And gosh darn does it feel good when you finally overcome !
It has that addictive nature some games like Super Hexxagon possess (Strange comparison I know)
I keep dying and keep telling myself I was so foolish, this time I’m doing it! And proceed to die 3 seconds later.
- Gameplay is simple but hard to master
- You can personalize the difficulty to your liking (a walk in the park to HELL ON EARTH)
- A D O R A B L E pixel art
- Catchy and fun soundtrack
- You can play as a crocodile! (and more than 30 others characters)
- Perfect for short burst sessions and speedruns
- Multiplayer (local) is a blast!
You Died but a Necromancer revived you. And again. And again.. And again... Difficult yet not frustating, the perfect game to play to challenge yourself without feeling like giving up everytime. In this game you will be given a simple gameplay with hard levels in cute yet epic designs. A game worth its price for amateur of challenging games which like to punish you everytime you stumble but gives you the best feeling of pride ever once you beat it.
You died but a Necromancer revived you! The title, by itself, already tells you what to expect (I also love that silly title!). The game is fast-paced, it's all about being attentive and having good reflexes to avoid traps and climb up floors to slap that Necromancer across the face.
The game is simultaneously simple and challenging. I am not usually too fond of games where if your little toe manages to touch an anything bad you start the level again, but this game felt different and hooked me. The game's style is really charming and makes me want to keep trying again and again so I can see what comes next! I really recommend playing this game, especially with friends and try the main mode, as it becomes really challenging at times to avoid accidentally killing each others, you must cooperate and syncronize your steps at times. It feels the most rewarding to work together and cheer when the last surviving element of the team manages to make it to the stairs! - that really adds to the fun factor and, to me, it's when the game really shines.
