This is BLOOD TRAIL VR.
This is the game you have been waiting your whole sick life for. Experience what has been called "the most realistic gore system ever" in Raid, Sandbox and Arcade combat modes. Take on the role of a heartless killer for hire and see why Blood Trail has come to be known as "the most violent game in VR".You are Wendigo. A hard-hearted contract killer motivated only by a paycheck. With a trusted arsenal at the ready, you are tasked with annihilating a fanatical cult.
Built from the ground up for VR using proprietary character physics and gore systems, Blood Trail offers an unprecedented shooting experience not for the faint of heart.
With realistic gun mechanics and damage effects, you will have no margin for error as you use your pistol, shotgun, rifle and fists to become the last man standing in this nightmarish and brutal scenario.
Did we mention that this game features the world's first virtual crack pipe?
Early Access to Blood Trail gives you several ways to satisfy your unhealthy, violent urges:
- Raid -- battle across 9 huge handcrafted trails that end in semi-dynamic outposts full of people to murder.
- Survival Mode -- stack the bodies high in 5 unique arena style maps where you will face an onslaught of enemies in a fast-paced shootout.
- Sandbox -- The infamous, original "empty room" sandbox map, plus TWO NEW SANDBOX MAPS, now with both armed combatants and mannequins!
THERE'S A LONG TRAIL AHEAD!
The full release of Blood Trail will feature a story driven, single-player campaign with infiltration style missions as well as huge shootouts and quiet moments of terror. You will get to know Wendigo and the fanatical members of Neptune's Vow and encounter plenty of surprises along the way....
Blood Trail is just getting started. We are very early in development and will be improving EVERY aspect of the game:
- More arcade mode maps
- More evil things to do in sandbox mode
- More weapons
- More enemy types
- More ways to murder and maim
- More drugs
- MORE VIOLENCE!
There is also be an experimental branch where you can test out cool upcoming features before they make it to the main game!

This game gives VR in general, a bad name, honestly it's amateur hour here from the UI design to just the main gameplay, it feels lacking in every aspect, feels like a game dev students first project in school not a fully fledged Alpha even for a 1.0, would not recommend at all in it's current state.
The game is awesome, its fun to burn time on and overall enjoy very pleasing to beat skulls with a hammer
Absolute garbage.
The controls suck, the menus suck and the gameplay sucks.
The only content of this game you will find on youtube is about how gory it is.
There is 0 substance. And I assume the game has been largely abbandoned too. Sure theres the odd update here and there but in over a year nothing really changed.
This "game" is ultimately just a brutality simulator. The content (if it can even be called that) is extremely shallow and vapid, the weapons and controls are janky, there's nothing to do except watch simulated dying and death. To be totally clear, there is no real game here, there is nothing you're going to get out of this product except watching NPCs react to various means of being killed. This is a creatively bankrupt product and developer, an absolute waste of your time and money.
this could be really educational. It's the perfect way to practice becoming a serial killer!
(for legal reasons this is a joke)
its a fun game but ive used all the weapons gets boring. Add more weapons please overall good game
Love what we are starting with but still very early. I was able to see most of what the game has to offer in less then a hour. Once campaign is added it will definitely add more meat to the game.
On the experimental branch it's like a different game. Probably my favorite VR shooting game. Warning though it's pretty graphic so if that bothers you I would probably go with a different game.
This game is brutal. But as long as you can handle it it should be fine. And know whats real is not, have fun
not nearly enough content to justify the 25 dollar price, i'd pay 10 dollars at most for this
while fun, there isnt much to do, or very much variation to speak of
theres also quite a lot of clunkiness, especially with melee combat. the NPCs feel very awkward and repetitive as well.
4/10, would be a 6/10 if it werent 25 dollars
please add gun attachments like lasers thank you
The most real looking, horrifying game I have every played. It may not be a full game but it is a great way to blow off steam. The gore is like nothing I have seen before
Not much too it really just sandbox and missions which you can't see anything since they are pitch black not worth $20 it would be worth $10 or lower
Its a fun game, graphics are great and the experimental version is fun af (minus the few missing maps) however there are some things you should know. It gets repetitive, killing the same people in different outfits over and over with the same voicelines, some of the maps are small so you won't have a lot of room for exploration, and the weapons are all the same with some being a little janky. Personally I'm not one to mind and I play this game in short bursts a few times a week. It's great for that. If you're looking for a game like this with more content then try out hard bullet. The characters are more cartoony looking and the gore is slightly less intense but it has more weapons, maps, and modes. I rate this game a 6/10 (Still good, though)
The non experimental version runs perfectly fine, though it can be a bit laggy and the audio can mess up a bit, but that's probably on my end since I don't use wired connection and I'm using a Quest 2 and not a Quest 3. Overall its good for relieving stress. Hopefully the update will release soon to practically perfect it.
This Tech-Demo is not worth 20$, it has potential but I have to give this a Thumbs Down as from the very start there are only minimal quirky settings for movement adjustments (hand tracking based) and in-game there is not even a Pause/Menu Button to leave the Arena. You literally have to close the program and start it back up.
This should be a Demo and not the Actual Game you can Buy in the end.
I may give this another try in the future when its further developed and change my review based on its progress but for now... Refund
Too janky.
Cannot walk forwards without having to look off to the right. Or need to constantly walk diagonally to the left. Walking directly forwards means walking at 0.1m/s.
Centering did not help. Centering to the right also didn't help to offset the need to look left....
The game is clunky and the weapons feel unsatisfying to use. The graphics look a lot better in the images than in the actual game. Gore is alright and the AI is a bit questionable. I would not buy in current state. Maybe in a few more years of development. Right now it is just a tech demo without even a story mode.
The game is Fun for a few Hours After that its boring the most exiting part of this game is waiting for a update other than that the game is fun
really good game, pretty realistic, fun but i have to ask you guys, please add a school map
This game has amazing potential! This game obviously has the best blood, gore, and violence Ive ever seen in a VR game. The gameplay is pretty decent with fun game modes.
However, this game has some issues. My main complaint is that the weapon arsenal is extremely limited atm. The game modes are fun, but for only a few hours in my opinion.
Im aware that this game is in early access, and the developers are doing a decent job at updating it. I can truly see this game being the "Blade & Sorcery" of VR shooter games, IF they keep up the regular updates and add a much larger weapon arsenal.
not really fun only gore only fun for 45 mins i dont reccomend (bad physics ai and character design devs please make the characters and physics better)
At the moment i couldn't justify spending my student money on it so i refunded it. But the dev(s?) are on the right track. I didn't explore it too much but for me it wasn't quite enough at the time of posting this review. That being said i recommend it as long as you are aware that the game is early access and its noticeable at times. As ive understood it, its only one dev working on it (might be wrong) which explains the long time in early access.
no matter how insane you are it still gets boring after thirty minutes.. limited weapons limited gamemodes it may be in early access but i dont recommend buying it yet even for blade and sorcery there was ways for it to not be boring but with the limited content and wonky physics im gonna stick to blade and sorcery or bonelab on my quest cause i cant afford it on steam rn
I cannot recommend this game at this stage. It's barely a proof of concept. Has the potential to become blade and sorcery but with guns instead of magic. Even if I believe the developer has something great going, I had to pay $25 to try it and it does not justify the price, so I am refunding it. Maybe in a couple of years I'd pay that price for a more developed game.
its fun but not that fun. for $20 it might be worth it. at least they didn't severely overprice a mediocre game. i see the idea and i see its potential but for now its not for me. there's not really a point to the game. and killing people isnt really that fun. they go down after 1 shot instead of taking multiple bullets before they drop like in real life. i know its in early access and im giving them shit for things that they're probably actively fixing, but that's just my opinion. im probably gonna refund this game. but i might buy it again in the future if it improves.
Game has poor tracking, and is a poor shooter overall. It mostly rides its super gore factor. Much better games on the market. Very disappointed.
i love this game its fun to play and i would love if it had more guns and melee weapons pls ad them best game ever
Good god, where do I start?
Movement only allows turning via snapping, no option for smooth turn. Movement doesn't allow you to adjust speed, so you're constantly at jogging pace.
Guns don't have a virtual stock, so you end up phasing your face through them while aiming, and the aiming is extremely unstable.
The positions are completely off on the character.. The hip firearm is all the way down at my calf with no way to adjust it, and I can't even grab it to use it. You have to manually adjust the position of your hands, even though the controllers have fucking trackers, so it shouldn't be that hard for it to automatically detect their position.
And then the personal issues: There is no left-handed support nor is there support for knuckle controllers.
The lack of left-handed support was less of an issue considering I couldn't even grab the pistol on my hip, but if I could I'd say it would be way more of an issue.
What was an issue is the lack of knuckle support. Not necessarily the fact that the in-game hand didn't follow the finger movements of my IRL hands (although this was a bit jarring), but more-so the fact that the game seemingly had zero idea what to do when I performed multiple inputs via the finger sensors - it would end up closing and opening the hand non-stop if my whole hand wasn't closed around the controller.
great stress release, sometimes i just go bare handed and take out my frustrations on hordes of cultists
Blood Trail is a BonaFide Murder Simulator for the Modern Age:
Since the days of PS2 era GTA Games and the likes of Manhunt & Soldier of Fortune, I have fantasized about a games Gore getting to this level of Realism.
After watching Videos of Gameplay for this one and being in utter awe over what I was witnessing, I knew I just HAD to buy this one and it has not disappointed!
Buy it before it's Banned. cuz It seems almost illegal with the the insane amount of Brutality one can commit Lol
as it stands, 8/10
With more work as time goes on, it is almost certain to achieve that solid 10
Kudos too the Developers
Now, Gimme more!
Day 26 of the October Horror Reviews: Blood Trail.
Figured I'd mix it up again a bit today with another VR title, except this one, you more or less play as the villain... kinda. In terms of horror, the game isn't so much scary in the conventional way, in fact, it's the perfect definition of *reverse* horror.
Reverse horror is typically defined as playing as the bad guy, and while you're essentially a hitman breaking into a cult to press delete on their existence, the way in which you do so is up to you. Read: It's up to you. With a range of weapons, both melee and ranged, from icepicks to pipe bombs, to being able to use a classic fist, your options are varied - and your morals loosen.
Horror is contingent on the idea that there are things out there that could, and would, do us harm. Reverse horror is contingent on the idea that *we* are that thing that could, and would, do others harm. This game does that fairly well, and it's not so much anything supernatural that makes the game unsettling, it's the sense of realism. All of a sudden, you have a cultist writhing in pain on the floor from a bullet wound in the stomach, and you're standing over them with a hammer, and you could so easily spend the next two minutes "happily" smashing their skull in with it.
Lovecraft spoke greatly about how there are some things that a human is not supposed to know. That were we to taste of that forbidden knowledge, we'd lose ourselves to it. Blood Trail, for a game with fairly simple graphics, creates an environment where it's never been more terrifying to be the apex predator. To know that they can fight back, and maybe even kill you - but know that it's even easier for them to end up dead. Knowledge of the power over life and death is a piece of knowledge man was never meant to have.
Blood Trail does an amazing job establishing that, and it's also the kind of game where you may question just how far you'd be willing to go. They're virtual characters, there's nothing real about them - but the suspension of disbelief is so compelling that it's almost sickening.
Give it a try - but be warned, it's not for the faint of heart. 8.2/10
This may make me look like a psychopath but this game is actually pretty fun. I wish there was a little more content but for what it is, it's pretty good.
bland after 45 minutes and janky when it come to melee, this has been out for a minute how have then not made this better?
A great concept, amazing potential, i honestly loved playing this, at least for an hour. After an hour had passed i realized that it had quickly become boring, with very little variation in gameplay. Keep in mind this is early access, and the Devs seem to have passion, but the state that it is in it should be worth ten dollars at most, but 25 for stiff npc movement and five or six weapons to choose from, not worth it yet.
got it for the quest 2 (through steam vr) its got a few bugs like no audio and when there is audio it never works without being super unplayable and laggy
While I do enjoy this game I have had an issue recently where I cannot hear the game at all. I know it is the game because when I open the steam menu in "VR" while I play the game I can hear that but not the actual game. If there is a way to fix this please help me, only if you want to. So I do enjoy the game very much but I cannot hear the game. I think it is a good game for if you want to see violence and gore.
(TLDR at end)
While I'm sure this game is fun for many, I cannot get it to run for longer than a few minutes at a time before my performance overlay goes into the red and/or it crashes, so I will unfortunately be refunding it until its full release. I can see the potential this game has, but it seems to be lacking much needed optimizations for lower-end PCs. In its current state, I'm not sure if I agree with a $25 price tag as there are a lot of things that need reworking, and its performance is lackluster in my experience, even on minimum graphics settings.
(Disclaimer: I only messed around in the first sandbox map, and only for half an hour before I gave up trying to run the game)
Some things (mostly nitpicks) I noticed in my (albeit short) playtime:
1) Guns/gunplay: First, the collision on the (rather large) hands often interferes with aiming and reloading as I kept pushing the pistol away when I was trying to grab the slide. Also holding guns like the .308 assault rifle with both hands was very awkward, as the game has a kind of virtual stock mechanic which you cannot disable, and the assault rifle's clearly adjustable stock is nonadjustable. The recoil also feels unnatural and floaty, and not as "snappy" as a real firearm. The damage was somewhat iffy at times, as a guy stood right back up after tanking a .308 to the heart, whereas another guy died almost immediately from a 9mm to the crotch. The pipebomb also seemed to have an oddly small damage radius, as it had to be basically right next to a guy in order to damage him.
> On the plus side, the gun sounds were quite nice, and sounded realistic. They were quite loud, but thank you gun volume slider :)
2) Melee weapons: Blood decals left from the small knife were circular, similar to a small caliber bullet, as opposed to the slit that would be left by a knife. The knife and metal pipe also felt just off to use in general, can't really put my finger on why. When swinging the metal pipe, it felt like its inertia was pulling my hand with it, which made hitting people with it awkward. Also hitting people with the metal pipe sounded like hitting wood, as opposed to flesh.
3) Menus/UI: QOL suggestion I would recommend is binding the settings menu to a button on a controller, as the direction for tapping on the watch is hidden among a sizable chunk of small text in the corner of the room, on a wall you aren't directly facing when starting up the game. In the box sandbox map, there is a panel UI in the divot on the wall that only displays when you press the "clear" button next to it, as opposed to always being displayed. Also this panel lacks a "spawn enemy" button, which would be very very nice to have in a sandbox environment, as the enemies currently just kinda spawn whenever. Also, when selecting your equipped weapons, there is a slot labeled "left shoulder", when the weapon is instead displayed on your left hip, and reaching over either shoulder will grab your weapon in the "right shoulder" slot. There is a diagram next to the weapons display depicting your character and where the weapons on your body are, except they show a weapon on your left and right shoulders, and one on your right hip, whereas in gameplay, you have one weapon for both shoulders, and one weapon on each hip.
4) Gore: The gore and dismemberment in this game is quite good, as advertised. I especially liked how the shotgun would remove chunks of flesh, as well as the subsequent environment blood decals. Also when I detonated pipebomb right next to a guy's foot, his leg severed at the knee, but there was no blood, and it just looked like that chunk of the leg model was just removed, most likely just a visual bug.
TLDR: This game has a lot of potential and there are several things it does well. However it is in very early access, a lot of things could use reworking, and its performance is lackluster. I personally would not recommend this game in its current state, especially if you're on a lower-end PC like mine (i5 11400 & 1660 super). I will edit my review upon full release.
Literally the only thing that's holding for me is the gunplay. the guns in general feel really bad to use with the recoil feeling really artificial and floaty. For a game that relies on guns as much as heavily as this game that's a deal-breaker for me
Definitely not for me. While the textures and actual game play are fantastic, it was done to the point where I actually felt bad for the things I was doing. There is not enough that makes this feel like a game for my personal taste. The game is also quite buggy at the moment but I'm sure that'll be fixed and isn't a major issue.
in the first hour its fun but it gets boring very quickly...ill guess ill wait for the story update(if thers going to be one)
this game is 100/10 you can mutilate people with a shot gun, knives, assault rifles, and a bunch of pipe bombs, obviously if you dont like gore you're prolly gonna say "what kind of people play this game" but honestly we just dont care bc we can take out all of our anger or intrusive thoughts out on simple AI that can be blown in half or have their heads smashed in, so if you didn't get the memo fuck you if you dont like this game.
i like the concept but what i generally wanna puke while playing the game
generally i can play vr for hours without any problems, tho when you move like you do in this game well your inputs are set to where you are aiming your left controller i generally just wanna puke, specially in this game as its really badly made and you end up like walking back and forth time to time and weapons feelt like you where trying to shoot them one handed. The game also crashed like 3 times before it decided to work in experimental beta version,
ran like shit, compared to other vr games in my library,
before i will try this game out again i want:
controller settings be able to put the rotation depending on where you are looking
want them to fix the laggy feel of the game this is not my pc being bad this is generally just poorly optimized,
and more info about mod support, this was the main reason i bought it to see what type of mods could be made but as i read a 3 year old reddit post they said back than they where sort of looking in to it shortly but as its been 3 years i don't see that being "soon" so,. sort of feel like this is a dead project
Very realistic especially this new update that came out recently. Recommend if you want realistic fighting and gore
Yes, I would like to recommend this game. This game is absolutely insane, the detail in the highest textures is wild. I don't understand what madman made this game nor his mental stability, but alas I love it. And if you're looking to take your anger out or just have some violent fun without getting charged with any crime, I very much recommend.
Great game physics are also really good when it comes to detail in things some maps feel kinda empty though which is a bit of an issue I feel like props could be a cool addition other than that no complaints other than the performance getting worse later in the round
This game has so much potential to be good, and I know that it's still in early development stages but it's honestly just a sandbox with barely any content. I got bored so fast it's not even funny. Maybe one day when they add a lot more stuff to it, it might be worth trying out, but the stage it's in right now does NOT justify a $25 purchase.
the controls are clunky and there's no way to change it in game.
the weapons feel pretty good.
the enemies are really boring to fight after a little bit.
the only thing that might be a little interesting in the game is how the NPCs react when you hurt them.
in general this game is boring and has a lot of problems it needs to fix.
Pros: (for the experimental branch as of 10/8/2024)
Insanely detailed gore. Flawless in almost every aspect.
Good weapon sounds and cool enemy voice lines
Cons:
Very little content.
No sprinting mechanic.
Awesome game, really a baseline for how all VR shooter mechanics should work, not cheesey death animations but good gore and a sense of feeling like your actullay shooting something.
If this game had more variety of weapons, maps and enemys, it would easily take the top of the VR market.
Im shocked to see there isnt a steam workshop yet because it would blow up like gmod
