Dollar store brand STALKER for VR. It's rough around the edges and the story is more of a background focus than anything but it was one of the first games of it's kind in the VR space. Checkout the newer games if you want a better experience. Also pretty damn ugly with quest compression but maybe that's just my setup.
Worth a buy if it's five or ten bucks.
One of the best VR games i've ever played. Up there with Half Life Alyx. The story was a bit short, but the atmosphere was amazing.
Its Stalker in VR basically.
It dumbs down some stuff bc its VR, but the weapon mechanics are pretty good.
Its worth a try.
The Slider served me White Castle and I shit myself. Anyway. It's pretty good and mostly brown like my pants.
The level of immersion in this game is astonishing. This game was crafted with care and intention. The weapon maintenance mechanic is super satisfying and well executed. The game is also incredibly frightening at times and way scarier that some VR experiences that were specifically designed for horror.
Overall the game is a must-play for VR and apocalypse genre enjoyers.
Into the Radius' intense commitment to realism, especially in a medium as finicky as VR, initially seemed dangerously counter-productive, but somehow the elaborate bullet-counting, gun-cleaning, backpack-stuffing, wasteland-exploring gameplay works to create a staggeringly immersive system where each expedition into the radius is a painstaking hike into the unknown.
Admittedly, the whole game is pretty janky. Your hands’ physics get in the way of simple world interactions. No doors can be opened. The on-body inventory system is difficult to get used to. Yet, it wouldn't be the same if you replaced all your equipment with something like a radial menu. Everything in Into the Radius is diegetic. You’ve got a backpack full of miscellaneous items that take up physical space. Essential tools can be stored in various slots on your body. Your map and missions are notes on a clipboard. Menus are on rustic computers. Almost everything degrades. The game is doing everything it can to make you a part of this world and it works.
Your time in the radius is spent in a focused state of observation, looking and listening for threats and resources. Enemies and anomalies produce distinct auditory queues. Foes are often obscured by the game’s perpetual darkness. Producing light heightens your perception but jeopardizes stealth. Given that combat can quickly go south if you approach an encounter unprepared, the game incentivizes good preparation, constant alertness, and patient tactics.
This is probably the first game I’ve played to make me care about empty magazines. Instead of throwing them on the ground, I’m quickly tucking them back into my pockets, even under stress, because they cost money and are reusable. Whenever I feel safe, I try to quietly and quickly load spare bullets into them. When I misjudge my safety, then I find myself with a backpack out, occupied hands, and an unloaded gun. This sort of spontaneous anxiety in situations that call for complete situational awareness, on-the-fly decisions, and split-second reactions in a game that spends so much time being slow and foreboding produces a special kind of penetrating horror.
The options to make the experience particularly grueling are absolutely there, but I found that even on a less aggressive difficulty the core atmosphere and malicious nature of the world weren't diminished by a slower hunger meter. I also recommend getting a few small, easy-to-install mods that fix stuff like the helmet viewmodel and the viability of stealth.
Even with the graphical and physics jank, I still found Into the Radius to be vastly more consuming than I expected. It’s a different sort of horror game that gives you the perfect amount of control. I loved the cycle of prepping for half an hour at the base only to have my confidence shattered in seconds by a dark, unfamiliar building full of whispering monsters. The vistas in this grey, cosmically-twisted no-man's-land are staggering in VR. It’s an immersive experience that’s as rewarding as it is meticulous.
One of the best VR games there is. It is janky, but the setting, atmosphere and gameplay loop are top notch.
I like shooting deadly anomalies in post apocalyptic exclusion zones
It's a very good game, among the best VR games out, HOWEVER, I don't think I'd recommend it for people who play on Vive.
The game has had a major bug in it where when you press the button to eject magazines (to reload handguns) it only works about 5% of the time. USUALLY instead of ejecting the magazine, it'll just slowly start rotating you in place.
And this is a pretty game-breaking glitch; enemies kill you in just a few hits, so if you can't reliably reload your handguns (Which are your main weapons for a huge chunk of the game) then every fight will boil down to "if the game breaks again, I lose, otherwise, I win."
I'd say "wait until the devs fix it" but, clearly they aren't interested IN fixing it, as this has been a major bug for years now, and instead of working on it, they've put all their attention into the sequel.
It would be a really easy fix, too. right now, pressing down on the pad does nothing. Just make ANY pad press eject a magazine, and relegate turns to light touches (Which already causes turns.)
IDK why the devs haven't done it; I know other people have asked for it. either way, can't recommend.
Wow. Amazing and very unique experience playing this game. It’s kind of tense but has a nice slow pace to it as well.
STALKER but in VR. Captures the same vibe and dreary atmosphere perfectly, and even includes anomaly's! :)
This game CAN BE TENSE! You are encouraged to prepare properly before each expedition and frantically trying to find the right pouch or bullet to reload has caused me to sweat nervously!
The gun handling is also fantastic! each weapon has to be Repaired, maintained, and of course has its own ammo. Its everything i could have wanted from a VR wasteland scavenging game! Wish there was a proper modern game like this available in non-vr and in good shape. But ah well.
I think this game just isn't my cup of tea. I really enjoyed the looting, but the anomalies is too much for me, I died many more times to just invisible anomalies which just felt like a dumb mechanic.
It does seem more fleshed out than most VR titles, but overall I found the surrealism didn't carry the rest of the mechanical gameplay for me.
I was starting to lose interest in VR in general but this game made me get back into VR again.
love this game as the looter goblin i am.
So much fun, I'm excited to finish it so I can buy the sequel. I’ve never found smoking a virtual cigarette while I cleaned a rusty rifle so enjoyable.
One of my favorite games of all time. Suspenseful when out in the radius, relaxing sorting all my gear in the main base.
This could be the best game in the world but I just can't bring myself to boot it up because of the damn pouches. The inventory pouches and harnesses on your body are always shifting around when you turn, making it awkward and cumbersome to grab things because you can't change it. I can never get through more than one or two missions because it just feels so bad to play and it's pretty obvious now that this will never be addressed.
The game is simple: Survive after some sort of dimensional incursion in a zone too dangerous for others to survive. You are given various series of jobs and tasks by an unknown observer watching over your progress, never sure if they are truly there to help you or push you into situations you have no hope of surviving. The gunplay is decent, the monsters are strange and sometimes quite tough to deal with (in a good way) and the environments are both equally so. If you enjoy the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series of survival games you will enjoy this. It is in some ways a VR version of that style.
As a fan of Survival Horror I would recommend it personally
this is easily the most loved vr open world game in my collection. it is the whole reason i upgraded my pc to run ITR2. I would recommend this game to anyone
- Game's weapon handling is unmatched
- Progression is good
- Difficulty is done well and is customizable
- Atmosphere is great
- One of the better polished VR games
- Just enough realism to be fun while not being a chore to play
- One of the few VR games I have yelled out loud in
I honestly don't have any real experience to compare the gun play and mechanics to what's offered in Into the Radius. I will say however, that it felt like the most realistic gun play I've ever tried in VR. Super detailed graphics and audio for the weapons.
If you enjoy survival horror you may like this. There isn't a ton of variety in enemy types but it's decent and it never took away from my enjoyment of the game. The scenery is pretty bland but also kind of beautiful in its own way. It reminded me of the Fallout games.
There's a story here but it it's mostly told through little notes and audio recordings. There's no guarantee you'll find them all either so it may be hard to follow.
You need to clean and maintain your guns (mags and suppressors too which can cost money) otherwise they can malfunction while using them. I liked this mechanic in the game, however it wasn't super clunky and not super clear how to do it. There is some minor explanation, but some tips would have been helpful (the brushing part).
Considering the amount of time I spent with this title, I'd say it's worth full prince at 30 bucks. I got it on sale and I felt like I got a good bargain.
Simply put - the best VR game on the market. Period. Shooting feels just right, just perfect. Missions feel great. Challenge - present. Fun - super present. VR jank - lacking. This should be what other vr developers hold as a standard for vr games. Played before, now playing with mods and it's even better!
pechorsk will bend you over and make you realise who's the real boss of the zone
amazing game, was probably one of the few games i ever got immersed in with vr
organising the base, shooting the guns, everything was just beautifully done
love this game. hands down my favourite vr shooter-explorer game, the realism tickles my brain in certain ways that most games couldnt. the gun cleaning system can get a little repetitive, but you can always turn it down or even off in the difficulty settings, as well as most other mechanics. if not, you can still use the shop to repair them for a fee, the price depending on how damaged it is. you can sell basically everything as well, which makes the explorer side of myself come out. there are still a few annoying factors, like the repeated gun cleaning and magazine filling. but overall, a lot of annoying stuff can be reduced and the game can be horrifying at times, especially at night. guns and enemies are balanced (in some ways) and there is mostly a way to overcome your problems. 10/10 vr game, totally recommend if you like to explore and are a gun fan.
Amazing game but horribly un-optimized, constant freezing
Outstanding work! It gave me a purpose in my free time when I want to play something and I enjoy it very much.
It's one of my favorite VR game!
The enemies are uncanny, the ambiance and visuals are well thought and spooky, the gun handling is satisfying.
Taking care of your equipment may seem tedious at time, but for me I see it as necessary cooldown period from all the adrenaline I get from the radius.
Would recommend. Happy exploring!
I love this game If you don't want a completely S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience then this game is key, as it explores the small mining town of Pechorsk, Russia and you must research and find artifacts for the United-Nations-Pechorsk-Special-Commitee. If you however want a completely like stalker experience I'd recommend a game like Z.O.N.A. Origins as that would be the game for you. Though this game is a great beginning for first VR games.
This game is absolutely amazing!!! So much fun and so much detail!!
got stuck in a house attic on my knees shaking to reload my shotgun as i heared little girls laugh and footsteps right under the ladder to leave that place.
too scared to continue playing
10/10
slider/ fnaf jump scare
BTR/ go BRRRRRRRRRRR
Mimics/ average day in the da hood
seekers/ tickles
fragment/ brains
phantom/ invisible brains
spawns/GET BACK HERE FLIT LOCKWOOD!
Every day is HELL! ;)
Amazing game! Solid 9/10, must have if you own VR!
Here are the things I like:
+ Great Weapon handling (Turn on virtual stock for two handed weapons and your set)
+ Great Weapon and attachment selection (Pick what you think looks cool they are all usable)
+ Interesting world and story
+ Cool stamina system (Eat out of the can with your knife like a real warrior - actually a quote from the game! :D)
+ Having to prep before entering the Radius adds weight to your expedition, you really plan your loadout ahead
+ Open world with no forced pacing on the main story progression (My first playthrough was 40 hours, I took my time and enjoyed it)
+ There is a shooting range where you can test all weapons that you've unlocked for free! :)
+ All of your items are visible on your torso, pouches and in the backpack. I really hate how some VR games handle holstering weapons and items. Like, do they really expect me to ingrain into my muscle memory where every invisible triggerzone of every item is?! Hell no! It's like a 2-3 hour learning curve that can ruin the experience because you end up with items in your hands that you didn't intend to pickup (sorry for the rant).
Luckily in Into The Radius you can just look down and see where the items are and grab them... you can even choose where you want to store them by placing them there... what a crazy concept, right?
Here are the things I didn't like and would like to see improved:
- If you are using the index controllers then the game uses the position of the fingers to detect if you are grabbing an item/weapon. If you have sweaty hands like me then you know that some fingers can get stuck quite often. This can cause items to "stick" to your hands. I even added grip tape to my controllers to improve this which helped a lot but it still can happen. I personally think that full finger tracking is not necessary for this game.
- The world is predictable once you've completed the region
- The hit detection while cleaning your weapons with a brush is... questionable ( + Yes your guns can get dirty and will jam if you don't maintain them)
- You can't jump... well if you can I didn't figure it out. This lead to me getting stuck between rails on a railroad... just silly. Good thing that there is an unstuck button in the menu.
- Hitboxes of objects are pretty bad. I remember not being able to shoot a hostile through a collapsed power line. I couldn't hit them even though the entire body was visible. I also had to expose myself out of cover more than I would've liked.
- There is a stealth system in the game but enemies spot you so quickly when facing your direction that stealth isn't really viable.
So overall I would recommend this game. Even if I have some annoyances I don't think that any are dealbreakers and I did get used to them.
The developers really put thought into it.
My favorite moment was when I first cleared Bolotky Village as part of the main quest. I was too afraid to walk around during the night so I took shelter in one of the houses. I was in the kitchen and sat on the ground for the entire night. I had a flashlight on the floor and pointed at the entrance to the kitchen while aiming a shotgun waiting to blast whatever managed get inside. The night stayed silent besides the footsteps and noises entities passing by. I periodically checked my watch and stared into the radius.... That night was tense and one of the best experiences I had in VR.
So how would I compare Into The Radius to let's say... HL: Alyx?
Well they are completely different games.
HL: Alyx showed how a "Traditional" linear story driven game can perform in VR.
Into The Radius shows how a nonlinear story driven game can perform in VR.
Personally I prefer Into The Radius over HL: Alyx... now don't get me wrong HL: Alyx is a great game but it's a hot flame that burns out quickly.
In Into the Radius you choose the pace, you can go wherever you dare, experiment with different loadouts and weapons as long as you want... and I love that.
Honestly, one of the best games VR has to offer.
Like many have already expressed, Into the Radius is very STALKER-like with its atmosphere, which is fantastic. The enemies are well-designed and creepy, and fighting them never feels unfair. The weapons are done very well; almost all of them are very usable, and most can be obtained by finding them in the game world. There’s also a cleaning mechanic for these guns, which is very cool. If the weapon you want to clean is in a blue condition, you can clean it with a piece of paper and a ramrod. If it's in yellow condition, you need to first clean it with spray and a toothbrush. If it's red or orange, you have to take it to the store to have it cleaned for a fee.
The game plays around a simple system where you complete side missions to unlock main missions, which then reward you with new guns, gear, and sometimes new areas. These side missions are usually very straightforward, often involving either killing a group of enemies at a specific point or taking a photo of certain enemy types and then walking back to your base, which can be accessed from the point you entered. The game is quite spooky, with a lot of unsettling sounds, both from enemies and the environment.
However, there are a few things that personally annoy me after a while. The cleaning system, for example, while fun at first since no other VR game had done it, can get repetitive after cleaning your gun for the 50th time. Luckily, the devs let you pay to have your weapons cleaned whenever you want, so you don’t have to use the cleaning mechanic if you don’t want to. Another issue is with the manual reloading of magazines. Fortunately, the game lets you hold a box of ammo next to the mag, and it will slowly fill it, but even this becomes very tedious when using high-capacity mags, as you might have to wait a minute or two to reload a single mag that’s emptied in a few seconds of firing meaning you either have to spend a bunch of time in your base preloading a ton of mags or you need to bring a box of ammo in your backpack.
The distances between locations also feel a bit too long. As I mentioned, most of the game involves walking to an objective, then slowly walking back to a specific spot on the map to return to your base. This gets tedious. Trying to snipe in this game can be nearly impossible, since the developers have opted not to implement an anti-shake system, making it incredibly difficult to shoot accurately beyond 20 meters because of the natural schaking that's in your hand.
Overall, the game is very fun if it's your first time playing and you're okay with a bit of horror, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for something replayable.
It's interesting game. Well thought out.
It's slow paced and atmospheric.
What bothers me the most is the design of the enemies and especially sound design. Those look like a placeholder - something I would implement during the early development of the game but somehow it stayed that way.
I would still recommend this game since there are not a lot good vr games out there.
Easily one of my favourite VR games now. I was initially put off by the heavy focus on anomalies and the immaterial style of enemies, as I prefer a bit more realism in style; however, this quickly became a non-issue after I got used to them. Gunplay feels good, so do the physics. The progression system is engaging. The mechanics are great. A very solid title all around.
probably my favorite video game of all time... and I've played a lot of video games.
Best VR game out there. Is also terrifying - do not play if you become scared easily.
The gameplay loop and progression are almost perfect and the balancing is top notch.
Would highly recommend to anyone with a bit of experience in VR shooters.
This was one of my favorite VR games ever and then suddenly on the bomb mission, the bomb just disappeared. How could you make me love this game so much and then just rip away my ability to progress the story because it broke? I would leave positive review anyways but I have to leave a negative review because I am sad.
A must-have if you like the STALKER games and can tolerate running around in VR.
It's intense even when it's quiet. It's scary but in a way that eases off as you get familiar with the world. There's a lot to explore and loot and the looting and inventory are done well. There is an air of realism to it: as you search through drawers and cupboards, you'll want to keep your bag organized to find what you need in an emergency. You fill your magazines with the appropriate ammo and separate them in a way that makes sense. You maintain your weapons and plan your excursions and hope you make it back alive. And every time you do, trudging back into base safe and victorious feels great.
The only thing really disappointing is the loneliness. The base is empty of people; only computers and vending machines. But that only makes me not stick around for long—the world is big and there's so much more to see.
Really immersive game. The intensity of finding new enemies and scenarios that quickly kill you is amazing. I wish the mimics had more features so you can distinguish them from a distance. Countless times I have thought they were a police mimic only to get destroyed by a VAL. Highly recommend this if you have VR.
A S.T.A.L.K.E.R inspired VR game that is quite fun to play and is well made.
my only issue with this game is how annoying the gun cleaning system is. outside of that it is fantastic 10/10
Hella cool mechanics, very spoki.
Not the greatest on the Quest 2, but ig that is to expected, even then it is still very nice.
Abandoned, empty ruzzian game—just download it elsewhere. Imagine doing a price bump for a single-player game for Ukrainians during the war. Disgusting
Definitely different. Kind of has a cool idea behind it but I experienced bugs and the game play just didn't keep me.
It's quite unforgiving but if you love the Stalker games like i do, it's a must play
Great VR game.
Cleaning guns not that great.
Looking forward playing the next one :)
Love this game
Can't wait to play the sequal with a friend
Also, mods PLEASE
Great game! Looking forward to when number two leaves early access.
Quite a fun game. If you're into survival looter shooters then I absolutely recommend the game. The weapon system is fun, the enemies are designed really well and are fun to play against, the missions are great, and I think the story is great as well.
Probably the second best vr game I played and Half-Life: Alyx only beats it because of the better optimization and overall polish.
There is some junk and graphicaly it's not the best (though it definitely has its moments) but the gamepley is absolutely phenomenal.
