As the chaos approaches, you take the role as the leader of a rag-tag bunch of scavengers / mercenaries. Your goal is to scavenge, trade, sabotage, hunt, fight and help conquer your way to fame and glory.
Along the journey, you will meet allies that will join in the struggle to survive the wasteland, and perhaps together, you can unravel the mystery on the origins of the colony and change the fate of all those who call this barren world home.

The meat and bones of the game, the tactical combat, is very lackluster: No overwatch, no cover, no elevation, no terrain modifiers, no delaying action. The tactics is down to move-away-and-shoot if you're ranged, close-in-and-whack when you're melee, with the odd pop a consumable, in a barren 8x8 grid.
If you're thinking this game to scratch your squad-, turn-based tactical game itch then don't. Maybe the game is great in the sandbox, trade, overland aspect of the game, but that's not why I got it.
Repetitive and boring, difficulty mostly determined by random generated enemies. can make cash easy but nowhere to recruit others to your team. if you scavenge in front of another scavenge group they will chase you down the entire map from town to town and then beat your ace early game unless you give them half your cash and they are everywhere making scavenging almost not worth it.
good early concept but needs LOTS of polishing.
I enjoyed playing this 'version' of Battle Brothers a lot until maybe the mid-game when the lack of variety, progression and story made the game a grind without reward. Maybe someone more determined than me could power through to the next level and victoryh
This game was much more a chore than a fun game. The begining was good, but as you play the game, you seem to rely on random events to advance and that seems to a fundamental problem with the game. This isn't a casino game to win money, it's an RPG and luck must not be a factor to advance. The two instances I will say is finding the fixer, it was a random event. It took me three days to go back and forth in the desert. Finally one of the devs told me where to look; that took more than an hour to find it. The next mission was to search a wreckage and that was the last straw.
The graphics and game play are ok, but the game progress was horribly made. I/m not spending hours for a game that is just average.
This game is awful.
Honestly, it is one of the most luck based games I seen in my life, the idea of playing this in ironman mode is unthinkable, any encounter, and I mean ANY ENCOUNTER can be deadly for the first 10 hours you play it, not to mention the absurd low amount of time you have to do the missions, even after you complete it, if you don't return to the city in time the mission fails and you loose reputation, and it's not a little, if you fail a SINGLE mission because of the ridiculous low amount of time you have to do them, you loose the equivalent of 5-6 successful missions, so if you fail one single mission due to RNG you just wasted 2-3 hours of gameplay.
But wait, you did kill the raiders? yes, but that does not matter, I was 5 minutes too late.
And how do you get better gear? only unlockable by gaining reputation.
Armor in the game is borderline useless, it's practically a consumable on the melee character, it breaks in 1-2 hits.
You also can't hire other mercenaries until your renown is high enough, but to get renown you need to do missions that are completely RNG.
Combat is also determined almost always by who is lucky enough to land the first hit, even if you move your units in a way that you will be the one to deal the first hit, if you miss, it's usually game-over.
I do not recommend this game AT ALL, I love this genre, but this game is absurdly poorly balanced
I don't know why another reviewer said that the writing was decent. It isn't. It's some of the worst writing I've come across in a paid title, in fact. The narrator switches tenses constantly, the characters do things that make no sense, and you can't customize your party. You're expected to put up with really annoying characters for the whole game.
I've seen better writing spat out from Google translate. If writing matters at all to you in a game, give this one a pass. It's horrendous.
Game looked promising but a lack of balance and impossible difficulty makes it not enjoyable. The general comparison is Battle Brothers, I find that comparison reasonable but the difference is while both games are difficult, you are limited in this game to amount of party members leaving you vulnerable if random combat starts with no option to escape. For that reason I just can't recommend the game. Applied for refund.
The moment I booted up the game, I could tell... This is an incredibly less polished sci-fi version of Battle Brothers. And for a game of this genre, If you try to see if it gets good or not along the way, you are out of refund time. If you really, really like the theme, go for it. Otherwise, if you enjoy the genre, Battle Brothers is better.
Discovered this through Space Game Junkie's curation and since I like single player sandbox RPGs, particularly those with a sci-fi theme, decided to try it out. I was pleasantly surprised! There is an interesting story and background lore, a living, dynamic world with inter-faction wars, and a good core mechanic mix of both trading and turn-based combat encounters. Also gives me great nostalgic vibes from games I played as a kid, and the developer listens to feedback & updates the game frequently with improvements & bug fixes.
I stumbled upon this game and have been pleasantly surprised. This is a sci-fi tactical rpg. The mechanics are similar to Battle Brothers with more viability to trading. I've really been enjoying the game. The writing is not annoying and the art is original and compelling. The developer is very active with patches coming out every few days at this point. Several little quality of life things that were bothering me have already been patched away. I have only encountered one serious bug. If a dirty, hard scrabble sci-fi world and turn-based combat are things that you enjoy, you should give this a try.
This game is not Battle Brothers. Don't buy it expecting a BB clone. It's a turn based RPG that happens to have characters that graphically resemble the way BB characters look. Every turn based RPG is going to basically resemble every other turn based RPG at it's core so yeah I can see why people are comparing them. They have similar concepts in a few obvious ways.
I wont list pros and cons as such because people have different ideas but I will point out a few things you should appreciate before you buy.
*This game doesn't hold your hand. I struggled at first for sure. If you pay attention then it does tell you things you need to know but you need to read and listen or you are going to miss it. Once you figure things out then it's a lot of fun.
*Combat was really hard for me until I got 4 team members to lvl 5/6 then it gets way easier. A combination of knowing what I was doing and better characters/gear/skills. It's easy to achieve this point without combat at all if you choose and you can do it reasonably quickly. Many people will get a hang of it much earlier than me I am sure.
*Characters have fixed stats all through the game. They get better by improving skills and getting better gear as you progress.
*Some games start you off where you progress in a linear fashion through level scaled content so you are always able to win if you do it right. This game lets you walk into fight's you cannot possibly win right from the word go. Lots of stuff scales up with you as you progress but if you upset the wrong people you could well get eaten alive.... be ready for this.
The game works. A couple of patches in and there are no game breaking bugs. Tell the dev what you want changed and maybe he will. He has a definite vision for the game but wants you to enjoy it too. I have chatted with him a bit and he has either said this is how it is because ....xxxxxxxxxx.... or OK I will look at it. Basically the core mechanics are how he wants them but if you have any dramas with how you interact with his game (ie - the UI, map, controls, tooltips etc) he is happy to improve it based on feedback.
I started off struggling and ended up beating the story. If I can then you can too.
It's cool and a lot of fun. I have paid a lot more for a lot less.
Definitely recommended for anyone who has a moderate skill level. If you want a hack'n'slash, steamroll the content piece of cake look elsewhere.
If you enjoy turn based tactics games theres a good chance you'll enjoy this game too. The dev is very responsive and helpful. Not sure how much of game is left for me but I know I want more. If there's ever a sequel to game definitely would buy.Overall enjoying the game very much.
Quite an inspiring sandbox!
Nomads of the Fallen Star could be defined as a free roaming, organic world with a living trade system, factions, topped with turn-based combat, ressource management and both character backstory and evolution through level up. Oh, let's not forget crafting and character perks (the later affecting either combat or exploration).
There's also an intriguing story going on eventhough the sandbox mechanics can keep you busy on their own (roaming groups, radio messages asking for help (defense or supplies)...
The solo dev is still pushing updates almost daily, mostly for Quality of Life enhancements since the game seems bugfree and well optimized.
I've really been enjoying this. It's a really fun and varied sandbox with an amazing economy, a lot of events, a very dynamic, living world and really fun, brutal combat. Definitely worth your time y'all.
I just had an epic fight in this game. It was me versus a group of enemy mercs. I started with 4 guys, they with 5. At the end we both had one guy left, each with shredded armor and 1 turn from death. I mean that literally, my character was on fire and was going to burn to death at the end of her turn. And I had 1 shot to take the guy out with 87% accuracy. And this whole time heavy metal was playing as the battle music.
I made the shot and won the fight. Then after some story text it was back to business. I placed the survelience probe and returned for my reward.
Needless to say I find this game to be fun.
Nomads of the Fallen Star is a neat little game. The art style of the world map looks very good (although I’m no expert). I like the water colour idea. The game play seems to be inspired by Battle Brothers (which is a fantastic game). So if you like Battle Brothers, Nomads of the Fallen Star might just appeal to you. For the price I think it’s a good game. Is it perfect? In my humble opinion … no. I think there are room for improvement. With positive and constructive feedback and suggestions to the developer I think this game has the potential to shine. Some of the suggestions I’ve made to the developer was implemented instantly. The developer is very positive and open to suggestions.
Give this game a fair chance. I believe it will be a satisfying experience.

Reading around i noticed lot of people tend to compare this to battle brothers. Well this is not battle brothers, it's different in many ways (your companions are handcrafted, with their own personal quests to follow vs randomized hirelings in bb, combat plays differently, economy is more articulated etc..), in other words this is a game that reflects the personal vision of its developer.
It is a sandbox and it's turnbased, it takes place in a world where factions are costantly active, peace threaties, war declarations are pretty frequent and you can take advantage of it.
If i had to squeeze what i mean in a sentence i'd say that it plays a little bit like a 2d space sim in its core elments (factions favour, resource scavenging, interactive wandering units etc..) with said elements implemented in a turn based, party oriented scenario.
Fans of both genres - and everything in the middle - should be happy with this one.
Side note : art is gorgeous.
So far I have been enjoying it. Very similiar to Battle Brothers with more emphasis on economics. I will update as I progress more.
Game has a world map like Mount and Blade, simplified combat system and an economy greater than all 4X games. I noticed that trading is fully simulated by AI and supplies in each town can vary at any time.
Game is smooth with nice flow and engaging story (so far) and actions can have serious consequences. Map events are based on supply/raider crisis' and keeps you busy while your squad recovers. Short gameplay makes it possible to play this very casually so its great if you have other 'responsibilities'.
Great game, and especially impressive for a one-man team. If you like battle brothers, this is real similar but with more economic/political control.
