Fun little bite sized metroidvania. The mech suits are a fun idea and the game does fairly good with using most of them (there's one or two that don't really get used much). There's a lot of grinding if you want the upgraded suits and I feel like there's no real reason for it to be as much as it is. But it's a fun game to beat in an afternoon.
Metroidvania where each suit has 1 ability and you have to switch suits on the fly to progress. Decent map. OK music.
Haven't fought any bosses yet. Not really any story, and 1-bit graphics, but is that any different from Metroid 2?
A very strange/rough game. The art style is sparse. The difficulty seems to spike with the middle boss and the final boss is a pushover.
However I found the abilities being tied to new forms AND those forms having negatives such as slower movement speed/jump heights intriguing, but I don't feel it plays out too well. It is annoying having to switch back to the super jump mech suit constantly. They probably didn't want you to become a massively powerful cube of doom, but the form switching wheel freezes time and there's no restriction in changing back and forth between forms (i.e.e cooldown, energy usage) so you'll really just be enduring this nuisance when it could have been a smoother experience.
Pretty good, even if it looks "basic." Definitely pick it up if you have a little money to spare.
Mech Chip is a neat little metroid-ish platformer with a great style that matches the idea of it being a "chip", especially when the default window for the game is so small. There is a bit a variety in the number of mech forms you can take, although some are clearly better than others for certain tasks The bomb tank was the one I used almost exclusively for the bosses , while others you use only when it's needed or not at all. The difficulty can also spike at times as well, but not enough to take me out of the game too much. The music, while keeping up with the simple theme, was pretty good to boot.
Overall, Mech Chip was a worthwhile little experience to try out, even if getting 100% achievements ended up grindy right at the end.
Neat game! Hard but not frustrating, and the 1-bit graphics with the Metroid-y artstyle create a good atmosphere.
This game is a unique short mini-metroidvania. It doesn't take any time to spare for cutscenes or for even... much of feedback. It's hard to tell when you are getting hit in a barrage of sounds. And getting a game over could have had a bit more... feedback?
It goes with a pretty archaic arcade approach. It has save spots as usual though it just never does it for you.
The music for stages was sadly really bland. I got tired of them pretty fast. The main boss theme was actually pretty good though.
While I ultimately thought the boss designs worked, some of the designs were too fast. It was designed for someone who is really sharp at games. Some of the bosses have extremely quick draws. The other primary issue is that only one of the mechs is really useful for boss battles, as it was the only mech that aimed at a 45 degree angle... where all of the bosses usually hovered... Making 7 other mechsuits pretty useless in boss combat.
There is enough content for this to be a good short 2 hour experience.
Quick and neat mini-vania. I was honestly not expecting much as I usually don't care for this kind of graphic style (at least Gato Robato had some cute designs). Turns out, this game's actually pretty fun. It's got all the vania tropes that I enjoy - map, upgrades, things to shoot at and blow up, secrets and collectibles, all of that. The graphic style did grow on me as I played, and actually a lot of the pixel animations were nice and fluid, especially with the boss fights. Most surprising was the audio. The soundtrack is really chill, lo-fi, vibey, and really suits the visuals; and the rest of the sounds just have that good old-school 8-bit crunch. All in all this was a pleasant surprise.
There are 8 different mechs you can transform into that each has a unique ability that allow you to access new parts of the map. There is a good variety in the mechs, enemies, and bosses. Nothing frustrating about the way it plays. Overall, I enjoyed this game. It took me 3.5 hours to 100% it with very little grinding or backtracking.
Solid little Metroidvania. I like how each mech has its own strengths and weaknesses.
Tip: If you keep the jump button held down, the jumping mech can do a partially-charged jump. Jumping is tedious without this (:

A bite size exploration platformer uses it scope as a strength for a steady stream of player progression. The use of various suits as the progression unlocking abilities is a enjoyable twist.
I'll be brief. This is a nice, charming little game. If you like metroidvanias and platformers, I think you'll like it. But perhaps more importantly, I think it's definitely worth buying and supporting the dev: I want to see Plutoneus make more cool stuff.
But be aware that Mech Chip is very minimal, which can make it seem a bit rough around the edges. There's not really any story to piece together, it's more like a sort of menagerie of mechanics. Some are interesting and innovative and engaging. Others are not especially memorable.
I want to see more like what Mech Chip does right, so I encourage you to get this.
PS: Some people are complaining it's not "really" a Metroidvania, but to me it plays quite a lot like the original Metroid and Castlevanias on NES... so... uhm, yeah, seems like "metroidvania" is a very apt label.
Recommended, with a caveat.
I like this game! While the aesthetic and mechanics are fairly barebones, the core gameplay is polished and offers something pleasantly familiar with a few characteristic features as far as metroidvanias go. It's well-paced and, barring a few specific exceptions, it's fairly easy to figure out where to go next.
The main caveat I have is that I didn't finish this game. I came very close to finishing it, but I was held up by what I imagine was either a bug or a puzzle that was telegraphed in such a way that I just couldn't get it (which may not be the game's fault). My understanding is that I'm not the only one who has had a game-breaking bug occur near the end. This does take the wind out of the game's sails a little bit, but I still feel I got my money and time's worth.
Just finished the game and I would say that this a very fun, short exploration game with fun combat and robots to control.I will likely go back and get all the collectibles in a second play through. I definately got value for my money. I very much enjoyed the sprite work in this game. loved the final boss weapons effects.
Cripes al-mighty this is NOT a metroidvania game. Don't go in expecting a metroidvania game, and for the love of Pete please stop calling these games metroidvania games. There is no robust gear collection or level up mechics (outside of the semantic differences involved with upgrading each mech body's ability). Half of what makes a "metroidvania" a "metroidvania" is the RPG mechanics involved with making your character more powerful to overcome the challenges you face throughout. Calling this a metroidvania is like saying this is the "Dark Souls" of action platformers, its ridiculous.
This is a clear and present "Exploration Platformer" or "Metroid-like" if you absolutely have to reference an old game that its primary game play hook can be based on.
The above being said, this is an extremely solid, well put together, and engaging EXPLORATION PLATFORMER, that actually uses some interesting mechanics to explore the map. Are you tired of constantly finding the predictable "double jump boots" or some version of them within the first hour or two of game play? Well, enjoy a robot that can shoot you up two screens worth of game map within the first 2 minutes, with refreshing twists on various game play that remain consistently necessary from start to finish.
What makes a great EXPLORATION PLATFORMER, is when the variety of abilities you unlock to reach new areas are constantly applied in new ways as you continue to make progress, and this game does a generally good job of this as you progress. There are a few mechs that simply don’t get the treatment others get (like the music playing mech as an example.) With this mechanic being the most important aspect of these games, it’s unfortunate that it is not as thoroughly applied throughout the game.
What you do get however, is a fun investment. This does so many things right with it’s minimalist presentation. There are a few wonky aspects of control like the final mech body, where you move but because of how fast it moves, you end up attacking in directions you are no longer facing when you try to do things quick. I am currently sitting in the end of the game with all of the bosses beaten, but cannot progress at all anywhere. I do not know if the game bugged, or if I am in fact in the end of the game with no notification that I am done.
What I have experienced so far, has been great. I would love to see more.
I am going to give the game another playthrough just to see if my current playthrough is bugged. I am hoping its not and I simply missed something.
Great Job Devs.
Mech Chip is a simple "one-bit" metroidvania where you, a chip, discover new powers and abilities through pilotable augmentations. The game is good for a one night play, or a casual two sessions of fun. The mechs are extremely varied and thus offer dynamic play, movement, and attack options. The bosses are decently difficult and will take a couple tries to master, but sometimes limit your mech options though there are interesting mech-switch combos. Most of the bosses are a fun challenge. In all, Mech Chip isn't a purchase you'll regret, offering at least a night's worth of fun for a reasonable price.
Takes "simple and effective" to the max, delivering super fun to-the-point gameplay revolving around the act of switching between mechs. It's good
A short (1.5-2.5 hours for story, tack on another .5-1 for achievements) metroidvania where instead of collecting powers you collect new mechs to swap to. Gameplay is intuitive enough (except for one or two mechanics that could have been explained better) and challenge mostly comes from the boss fights that force you to switch off your favorite mechs to avoid their attacks.
The map is exploration-based with a focus on twisting passages instead of large locales. That said, the later mechs and levels feel extremely underutilized with the player being able to ignore their unique gameplay mechanics. I don't think there's any replay value, but the game is decent for an evening of play.
Mech Chip is a relatively short metroidvania, but the gameplay and level design are very good. It takes about 2 hours to finish, maybe a little longer if you want 100% completion. There are some collectibles and passive upgrades that you can find, but they won't add a lot of replay value. Instead of collecting power-ups as you would in a generic title, each skill is represented by a mech that you can control (9 playable robots in total). Most of them can be upgraded if you find hidden schematics, usually adding some kind of active or passive bonus. The level design was very enjoyable because you have to switch between robots to solve puzzles. There are a total of 5 boss fights, I enjoyed maybe 4 of them ;). Overall, the difficulty is pretty fair, I died a few times but I never felt frustrated. As far as I am concerned it's a very solid game if you don't mind that art style.
Pros:
+ 9 playable mechs
+ good level design & platforming
+ can change controls
+ can swap the game color
+ collectibles & achievements
Cons:
- I don't have any problems with it
Overall Thoughts: 8/10
I thought I was crazy paying $5 for it, but I enjoyed every second of this metrodvania from start to finish. Honestly, I had less fun with more expensive games. I am sure that Atari style is not for everyone, but if you like that kind of pixel art the game is really good.

A cute little metroidvania built out of self imposed limitations that oozes "I was made out of love" :)
