please dont but this, its so hard to set up and icons and stuff are sht too complex for simple users
It's a good software. But it would be better if we could add a .gif file :)
The idea of this is great, and it works fine most of the time... but it didn't take too long for me to run into issues. Images you set as icons sometimes get lost, so you have to recreate them or re-add the image for it to show properly again. I cannot get it to recognize two mods I use as of today, and the in-app mod manager doesn't show them as being installed even tho the files exist. If you enable the dev console, there are plenty of errors even when just arrowing over icons.
It works when it works, and is good when it does. When it doesn't, it's another reason to defenestrate your computer.
Why am I getting an error? Fix some JavaScript errors!
The owner of this software is so caring and he accepts criticism. meanwhile the Software is as promised as shown. I love it.
I kept receiving catastrophic failure messages for trying to create icons for basic apps and games, like Discord and SteamVR. This, combined with the non-intuitive UI makes it a purchase I regret, although it was rather cheap and when it works, for those games and apps that I did manage to add, it works well. Personally, I've uninstalled it, but your experience could be different. I do respect the developer for their efforts, it just doesn't suit my needs.
I have a question for the developer.
I purchased Decent Icons 2, but can't I get Decent Icons 1 for free?
I know the opposite is possible...
This is the desktop app I have been looking for, good customization and a great premise only a shame that there seem to be some missing features and a small community, hope this review will help make this tool more popular so the dev gets more funding and there will be more stuff in the workshop
The desktop overview of the windows have almost been the same since Windows 98. Also there is no real official customization features. This is why I like this app. Does exactly what the user wants.
Things I liked:

Cons:
# For some reason every time I load a profile, the app instantly crashes.
# Not much customization options (waiting for the custom overlay update)
If you want your desktop to stand out and don't mind spending some bucks, definitely go for it.
Please Note This software is Not for casual folks!
While it's fixable, you gotta put some time in!
As Steam get's more and more buggy and bloated, This become my favorite launcher to use.
It's also a great companion to Wallpaper Engine so your favorite animated wallpapers always in view while making your Desktop clean from so many messy icons!
There's also Category or Tabs I like to call it you can group your games and software.
Handy if you're planning to sort some stuff to play later or putting your favorites in one area!
That being said. Decent Icon 2 is not safe from bugs either.
The gamepad function does work but limited what it can do and it's X-Input/Xbox only. So no D-Pad for me to navigate. It also has a weird bug the icon you last hover on will appear in the next tab.
I'm not a big fan of having an empty scroll bar visible especially when I make sure it's not needed having too many icons for each tab.
Still this a great software if you're wanting to have a clean desktop while able to launch your favorite games or software without the need of Steam's Small mode or Big Picture Mode.
or in my case, the closest console experience I'm ever going to get now that the buggy Steam Deck ui took over Big Picture Mode
Double props it actually able to launch Microsoft Store apps if you can find the shortcuts!
I technically got this for free when I bought Decent Icons 1 when I didn't except it so they have my respect on that front. My only request if I can clone an icon to another Tab as it's kinda annoying to make new ones.

every time i hover over an icon it tells me there was an error!!!
To be honest it is such a good app but not the best I can imagine a better app aslo it needs more work on it. overall 6/10
I would be lying if I said I didn't liked the Software and that I'm happy with my modded results. But there is a lot of room for improvement, specially in the customization, options and overall UI/UX departments.
Now, I haven't used other docks like Nexus Dock or Rocket Dock and I can't really compare the performance/ram usage to those docks to see if how much DI2 is using compared to those, but Decent Icons 2 with programs fully loaded, with shortcuts (with custom icons) and animations at IDLE consumes between 150MBs-250MBs of RAM by itself. Which is more than One tap of a Browser or Steam on IDLE. This RAM consumption does go down to 100MBs when not being visualized which is okay but I'm still concerned that this might be a little too much ram being used by this simple program, although I could just be a paranoiac dumb dumb that is not aware of how much ram these docks really consume.
That being said, Decent Icons 2 is a great alternative to those docks and it has it's own charm without being totally wrecked by it's competitors, not to mention that it has Steam Workshop Support which just makes this whole Software x100 Better, because if the community comes up together they can pull out a big stream of quality content, just like the Wallpaper Engine Workshop.
It's just not there yet in terms of popularity, but if the Developers keep updating the program and building a community I'm sure that we will have a sh*t ton of quality content in the Workshop facilitating the customization.
Overall I'm happy with this Software, it's safe to use, it hasn't crashed on me, and it was Workshop Support. So go buy it if You want a good-*ss looking dock for Windows.

This app was kind of a slow and buggy mess when it first launched, but its now working really well. I didn't actually like the original Decent Icons. It lacked features that I need. Mainly tabs. Decent Icons 2 has them. When paired with the mod to hide the app this is exactly what I want to launch games and apps. The dev has mentioned some other really nice features that might get added at some point, so its only going to get better. As it is right now though, its pretty great. If your looking for something like this then this is the best one I have come across. I have done a good bit of searching too.
I love this app. Makes my PC feel more like my Mac. If you don't like MacOS then this isn't the app for you.
I want to customise everything on my Windows 10 computer, especially the everyday apps. Decent Icons is perfect at that and so much more even sitting above live wallpaper it performs flawlessly. As I hide my taskbar it would be nice to add a date, time widget but there's probably an app for that.
I really like it, it has progressed a lot since i first got it.
The developer is also very responsive and is quick to put out fixes if you spot any issues.
Really neat tool that compliments my desktop well and im looking forward for the future of it to see what else it will be able to do.
It's what you would expect from an early access. Its not great but it's not bad, and every thing mostly works. Fences is a decent alternative to this, BUT fences doesn't look as sexy as this.

I can clearly see the improvement in the new Decent Icons. It is much better than the first one, but way too much better. Like I said in my other review, if you want to sort your desktop and make the icons look awesome, this software should be yours.
