honestly the final sequence is well worth the money alone, absolutely incredible. fun to play and fun to get good at too!!!

horribly unbalanced. many spells are piss easy on hard. many are also run enders unless you get luck. the last boss expects you to play as only a specific character you might have skipped because her gameplay is best described as souls slop. other characters are better off never using most of their attacks. the slow down from certain characters basic attacks is rediculous. the whole thing needs a rebalance, especially in regards to focus vs not focusing. red hood is better off ignoring her bow entirely except against characters who are already free and characters sitting behind a dps wall.

about the only thing i can say that's positive is the art style. the previews dont do it justice at all. embedded images look like sloppy tumblry wokeish reskins of touhou, you need to see it up close and the walfas and flash animation influences become obvious. the music and spell effects and backgrounds all look great. the dialogue and story elements are highly satisfying zun like affairs. you could do wore for 12 bucks, but i dont like getting killed over and over again by one card after breazing through most of the game. Im not particularly skilled either. I normally play zun titles on grade school mode and found normal to be insultingly easy while hard averaged between easy zun and mid range hard. I cant imagine what its like to play on lunatic. a lot of the matches feel tacked on but if you take an occasional hit you are going to get zero practice on the bad cards by the time the show up.

Fun fighting game. the mechanics are very well fleshed out and every character is fun to play and watch

It is a bullet-hell fighting game... which I've only (technically) seen been done in the Custom Robo Series before. Good bit of fun though story has got me a bit confused.

charming and fascinating pvp bullet hell/fighting game that wears its inspiration on its sleeves (I recognized many touhou spell cards in the boss patterns, even if they're mixed up a bunch and never copypasted) and even manages to surpass it, if we look at how polished, deep and engaging the whole gameplay loop feels like. it's more than just "what if touhou pvp games were good" and you can feel the passion and care in every nook and cranny of the game. I also really appreciated how you can look at concept art and the thought process of the dev in the extra section, it's always a nice touch

peak, its so peak i love it so much :3 the game itself is awesome, with the gameplay being so fun and the story having both serious and silly parts, along with the characters being so cute :3 the artstyle is so beautiful, and the character designs being really good in my eyes.

i personally played on hard, as ive had experience with bullet hells like JSAB and undertale, a little bit of touhou 9, and funnily enough i played the game they made after this game, rabbit and steel (which is also really good btw) yet still i was very much challenged by the game, and it was super fun to play as every single pattern feels really good to dodge, and learning them is super fun and intresting too, with overall the game being really fun to play, and being something i can always come back to, and the best part is that even if i rust a little as time passes on, i still can play the game cause the game has 4 difficulties to choose from, allowing for most if not all people to play the game.

the multiplayer in this game is great, i got one of my friends to play the game, and it is so much fun, the mutliplayer feels clean, and the characters feel really well balanced, as long as you know how to dodge obviously, and even with lag when i played with others online, it still felt good, and ended up being super funny when you see your friends just kinda, go through your attacks lol.

anyways yeah, this game is really good, id highly recommend it to practicly everyone who asks me for a game recommendation.

well at first i thought i could be either very complicated or very simple,but i agree the make a mix cause the most complicated character can be dominated like 2 or 3 times you guet used to it,and of course the feeling of having to be extremely aware of every detail is awesome and the focus is very well implemented and in my opinion is high risk high reward,you cant move very much with focus but have better aim and smaller hitbox,truly good

I haven't try online match, but the story mode alone makes me give this game 10/10. Cleared on hard, I'm enjoying gitgud on v.hard so far. And from matches vs cpu gave me new experience, they blend the combination of bullet hell and fighting game so well.

Both singleplayer and multiplayer modes are fun. I never expected a bullet-hell fighting game to be this enjoyable.

SUPER INTENSE WITH FRIENDS. 10/10 AS A 1V1 GAME.

Very cool game with interesting applications of bullet hells and fighting games. Unfortunately bullet hells are way out of my skill set.

Really well made bullet hell, really lets you BE the bullet hell boss while fighting other bosses, the PVP is fun and controls well, the pvp cpus arent the best but thats not a big deal because the pve story fights feel great. Hoenstly a great game to get into the bullet hell genre and all around fun to play with friends. I found out about this game after Rabbit and steel and was able to transfer over no issue, worth playing regardless of if you intend to play R&S.

Pretty fun game, Story mode has decent challenge, although bots in pvp are too easy even on v.hard. I wish there was more to this game like a super system that let you temporarily go into there super forms they got in the Story mode, this game has a lot of potential and I hope one day we'll be able to do some cool stuff, maybe mod support would help too.

The story fights are a decent challenge (for a noob like me, even on normal) and have decent variety.
Cute and pretty. No bugs so far, Story mainly an excuse to set up fights, but comes with cute lore bits,

Playable on kb + m, but much better with a controller. (This is also a fancy way of saying i'm annoyed by the default KB keymap and could not come up with something better. Keybinds are configurable.)
Mostly played with an XBox controller. Worked pretty much perfectly, but still shows PS button icons.

A Cute Bullet Hell Game

It is like a Touhou game, except without the waves of enemies, just the bosses. Overall, a fun way to spend an hour or so here and there.

Gameplay: On most of the campaigns, you fight 6 of the 8 characters acting as bosses. You start each fight simply trying to hit each boss with your own attacks. Do this three times and the boss switches to their "magnus attack" (think spellcards from Touhou). In this phase, the boss's attacks become more intricate and you have to wear down their health bar. Afterwards, they go back to the first phase or do different magnus attack, depending on where you are in the overall fight.

Controls: Default controls are movement with the arrow keys, attack with Z, X, C, V, and focus (move slower, smaller hitbox) by holding shift. You can switch to using the mouse in the Homescreen -> Options -> Input Options. You can also change keybinds there.

Difficulty: The campaign has four difficulties. I played the "Normal" difficulty, the second easiest. As someone who never played a bullet hell game before, it provided a good level of challenge without becoming overwhelming.

PVP: Best 2/3 rounds, in each round you try hitting your opponent four times.

Variety: There are 8 different characters to choose from, each with their own unique abilities and play styles. You can really feel the difference between all of them, so make sure to give them all a try. It feels really fun to learn how each character works and watch yourself get better as you progress through the campaign.

Art: The preview images and video are very representative of what you get.

Extras: There are unlockable artworks and music. There is also a time trial mode where you try beating a boss's magnus attack as fast as possible.

After a dozen hours of rabbit steel some months ago, i finally opened Maiden&Spell after realizing that the steam points items r rlly cute.
Immediately, I realized OMG TOUHOU!!! and then I went with arcanist cute and WAIT THIS IS IF YOU WERE A TOUHOU BOSS!!! THIS IS HOW I ALWAYS IMAGINED DANMAKU WOULD BE LIKE!!
and then a certain fight & im like THIS IS LIKE THE RUMORED REIMARI FIGHT
then... redhood normal, frost hard (gave up) -> normal,
maiden spellbound cute, priestess normal (perfect!)

Even though it's mostly single player, I think this is my favorite experience this decade as someone with a little knowledge of touhou and a little experience in R&S.
The way that YOU are a boss, the way that you can trade blow for blow *and if the boss is lucky* SHE gets her health back midfight by beating your spellcard,
the way that, as you play other maidens, Maiden & Spell _shows you_ how they're meant to be played..

BANGER GAME. A pvp waifu game is something I never knew I wanted. The normal mode wasn't hard though. I beat normal on my first try. It was incredibly fun tho and the entire boss rush took about 30 mins iirc. I'm definitely going to keep playing the other difficulties all the way through with all the various cast and possibly play online versus whenever I'm in the mood. It's such a good game how did I not know about this for so long. I just wish the normal mode was a harder and the game was a bit longer like a 45 minute run would of been nice but considering it's the devs first game it's incredibly polished and well executed.

Very lovely game :)

The solo mode is a fun enough 2-3 hour jaunt that makes for a good bullet hell on its own, probably a good bit longer if you do higher difficulties. Beyond that the multiplayer is just a pretty good time with friends. The game is not very deep, just a nice bullet hell experience you can play solo and with friends for a bit. Worth getting if you can find it on sale, especially if you can find a friend to play it with.

Yeah, this rules. I like it way better than Rabbit & Steel honestly.

Rabbit & Steel is attempting to be a new kind of thing. This is simply perfecting the shmup.

The patterns are intuitive, the music is lovely, the art and writing are charming, and the normal difficulty is calibrated perfectly to me---a being who does not understand that I should not be selecting normal on shmups. It's very forgiving. And there's also plenty of room to scale things up if, unlike me, you are actually good at the genre.

In terms of content, there's again a bit more here than in Rabbit. You have multiple characters to play through, each with a different story, and there's a fair bit of text here compared to Rabbit's more minimalist approach.

A full run will take you about twenty minutes, so if you're looking for a giant singleplayer campaign this is the wrong place. But if you want to git gud you can spend plenty of time doing that.

Also, this developer makes really rad stuff. I hope more people pick this up and support them.

Edit: Got a perfect (on normal) on my second playthrough. There isn't a ton of story variation between the first and second characters, but wow do they play different. Green girl is sustained pressure and a few defensive tools, black is pure burst aggression with pressure tools and a chargeable trap. You end up in a completely different rhythm.

2nd Edit: Red is... interesting. Sniper playstyle in a shmup feels weird, but her ability to force lockdowns and use delayed pellet spam is brain-bending to try and counter. Lowkey this might be a great fighting game if you're into those and don't mind when they take on unconventional forms.

3rd Edit: The game does a good job of presenting the characters to you in order of ease of use. Peach feels atrociously difficult. You can absolutely bullseye someone with your charged attacks if you time and position them exactly right, but the skill ceiling for this is wildly high and they're borderline useless if you can't. Similarly she has no tools to keep people from getting in, and charging her attacks slows her and lets them do exactly that. She has the best defensive panic button in the game, but I'm not sure it actually lets her out of pressure.
