Very fun
The concept of the game is unique! And believe me it's hard to do when we are talking about trivia genre. Computer bots get tougher for real with each level. The music is a little bit loud but it's okay. I am eagerly waiting for updates and possibly new categories. With love from Ukraine.
This is pretty fun, the questions are challenging enough to keep me interested for a while - I'm an old person, so I haven't quite caught on to the nuances of the game (the power ups, etc.) but I'll get there. The music is a little intense (for me) but it is NOT repetitive so you don't get sick of it!
Ignore the bad art... if you are looking for a good trivia game, stop right here. This is the best pure trivia game on Steam. Great questions, which is the only thing that matters. Pick this one up.
Fun little way to play trivia without all the intrusive ads and microtransactions you get in mobile games. Would love to see a follow up or update with more animations, and it seems like the perfect game for rogue-like mechanics.
Also there's a character named Mr. Jack you can play as so bonus points for that.
This is a very fun trivia game, my wife says this is a wonderful fun game. Who needs amazing graphics in a trivia game?
Good variety of questions & categories, decent tunes to listen to while playing. Wish there were more character choices or we could make our own character with preferred trivia categories, but that's my only complaint.

I've played a frankly unfairly small amount to pass a real judgement, so take this with a pinch of salt, but for me, apart from the top option, all of the menu options were present but invisible. That's a minor issue, but what I can't forgive, is in 'ascension mode' I very quickly arrived at a point where the opponent character won't pick a category and we both stand there, bobbing up and down, until I quit to main menu and re-enter the game, then they pick - only to immediately get stuck on picking a category after the next question. It's not for me.
I purchased this at a significant discount, which will color my review a bit. In short, a great little trivia challenge game that has a surprising depth and breadth of trivia questions. The fighter animations get tedious after a while, but they are in keeping with the Fight Club-type theme; it would have been great if there was a way to turn them off.
I did find one question for which its answer was probably right when written, but wrong now: which country has the most satellites in orbit. But that's understandable; it's just one of those questions where the answers can change quickly.

A fun fighting trivia game. This is truly representative of indie, so if you expect fancy animations and graphics, check out now. My wife and I enjoy this game a lot, and if the lack of flash doesn't discourage you, this is a charming and fun trivia challenge with a few unique twists. The dev is also very friendly and responsive to issues. They deserve more support.
in trivia throwdown knowledge is literally power, because in this trivia-beat'em up hybrid the more difficult the question, the more it hurts, especially if you don't know the answer.
pick a fighter, then the two players take turns in choosing a category from 3 randomly offered ones, and you both have 15 seconds to pick one of the 4 answers. no need to buzz, just press the appropriate key. if you're both correct, nobody gets hurt, if you're both wrong, damage is divided evenly between the two players, and if one is right and the other is wrong, I think you can figure out what happens.
you start at rank 10, the goal is to reach rank 1 on any or all of the 5 difficulty levels and win a match there. progress is saved separately, so you can switch between them, and if you lower difficulty, rank is kept, but obviously reaching rank 1 on easiest, then playing a match to win the whole game on hardest is not gonna work. difficulty is also somewhat adaptive, so if you keep getting things wrong, you'll get easier questions. win 2 rounds to win a match, win 2 matches to rank up. 1-1 means your rank stays the same, 0-2 means you go down a level.
several fighters are available, each with their favorite categories, and while you'll be answering every question, they will come into play when your health goes below 33%, that's when you get to choose from your specialist subjects. pick harder questions to hit harder, answer several in a row to build up a combo for extra damage, and use two power-ups: shuffle categories in hopes of getting something closer to your heart (or brain, in this case), or ante up and deal extra damage if you answer correctly. you get to do the latter if you lose 50 hp.
all the usual categories are present, such as games, movies, literature, history, sport, general knowledge, etc. with a ton of sub-categories and about 2500 questions covering a huge variety of subjects. they don't repeat until you've seen everything from a category, which is excellent.
progress is saved after every question, quit anytime, continue later, the game doesn't waste your time. can't pause during a question, obviously, and I wouldn't mind a 'skip fight animations' toggle to speed things up even further, but that's about all the criticism I have.
presentation is what it is, but the music is fantastic (separate volume settings available), and if you have people around, you can do 2-player local multiplayer, or try steam's remote play with online buddies. there's also an adult content filter (no swear words either way) and you can turn down the amount of american-centric questions too. growing up on you don't know jack and still not knowing anything about anything, I didn't mind them, always something new to learn.
if you're a trivia buff or open to learning new things about all sorts of topics, some more useful than others, this is the game for you.
This is a good game. It reminds me a little of the fighting in The Secret of Monkey Island, where you'd battle with words instead of fists. In the case of Trivia Throwdown, instead of throwing insults, you have to strike your opponent by answering trivia questions.
There's a lot to like here - groovy music, colorful presentation, plenty of stats and achievements to track your progress, and thousands of questions. The only real downside for me is that they lean heavily towards an American audience, even with the bias filter on. But that's okay because I'm learning new things.
I'd imagine Trivia Throwdown is best played with a friend (it's got Steam's Remote Play feature), but it's entertaining in single-player, as well. If you like trivia, give this one a go. It's a Knock Out!
Indie Trivia game with the gimmick of it being a fighting game that you have to win the battle of wits to deal physical damage to your opponents. It's an unnecessary gimmick, but mildly entertaining at the same time, especially as the characters will occasionally trash talk each other after rounds.
The trivia itself is fairly impressive honestly. Lots of different categories, lots of different questions. 8.5 hours into gameplay so far and I don't recall seeing a duplicate question yet. The questions have an answer timer, and you cannot pause it while that timer is running(you can pause it at any other time however).
There is another unique feature called "ante up" and this leads to the single complaint I can have about this game. Ante up is a way to enhance the damage your player does to your opponent in the event of a correct answer, only sometimes if you get the question wrong it will make the game hang until you exit to the main menu and reload it. at least it saves your progress, but still kind of annoying.
The game is also playable with friends, split screen or remotely which is kinda nice. Not sure why it has the profile features limited; because that's kinda annoying as I am an achievement hunter, but I'll live, the game is still fun. Overall I'd give it a 6 out of 10.
The game has pretty good questions overall, and the surrounding scoring gimmicks are OK. I haven't played enough to comment on the number of questions in the game.
Only real problem so far is that the single "fight" animation gets super old. It's bad enough that it ruins the game for me. Playing the game, 85% of your time is watching the same animation of a dude punching a ball, and then waiting through more messages/transitions before you get another question.
I know it doesn't fit with the fight gimmick perfectly, but now that I've played this a bit, I'd also appreciate support for more than 2 players (actual gameplay wouldn't need to change much - just everyone who missed question would take damage if someone got it right).
Well I enjoy this game because it is humorous and I Iove trivia. Please continue to make great games.
