For when you want to play some relaxing Solitaire games in a fantasy setting.
I love Solitaire. It's the type of game I can totally zone out to when my brain needs a breather from everything else. Even if the title is rather bare bones, I rarely find myself disappointed. And so, feeling the weight of the world crushing down on me the last few days, I decided to fire up another of DigiMight's solitaire efforts...I loved the Snow White series, after all. Well, even if the game hadn't completely bugged out on me to the point that I can't finish it because it will no longer allow me to progress, I was still mildly disappointed with the end result. The graphics aren't nearly as charming and polished, and everything else seems so dull and uninspired. Even the bonuses and power ups are all recycled from their previous titles. Normally, I'd just shrug it off and and continue plugging away at things, but the game breaking bugs have nipped that in the bud. Truthfully, there is no shortage of decent solitaire games on Steam. This one is an easy pass. Curated by: Chudah's Corner
solitaire dragon light is the carbon copy of snow white solitaire, sans snow white (despite the store page description), so my review will be very similar to the ones I posted for charmed kingdom and legacy of dwarves.
only two characters in this, a dragon looking for some herbs for a healing potion to cure his father, and a human lady who isn't snow white. there are a few conversations between them but it's an even thinner story than the ones before.
150 solitaire levels yet again, divided into 40 packs over 5 worlds, to keep saving on drawing a bigger overworld map. this one is barely bigger than a single screen and doesn't look great. hidden object scenes and jigsaws are back, and jigsaws are part of the 4-level packs, unfortunately, one in every 4th. unlike hidden object sections with a slow hint button, they can be skipped after a while and the image to complete can be toggled in the background.
3-star rating based on the number of cards left and you can only leave 2 to get a star. harsh. no stars unlocks the next level, but you need to 1-star them all to unlock the next world. decks are still mostly smaller, so even without an excessive amount of duplicate cards you'll be replaying levels a bunch of times. still no on-screen timer, but completion time is shown in the level complete window.
instead of companions, various found items are the source of power-ups this time. you start with the zeus sword to swap the current card for a more useful one, the druid's staff removes random cards from the board, then there's shuffle (more of a re-deal, as it replaces cards), another staff flips cards over and you can also remove specific cards. they take about 20 or so cards to recharge and they might not be available when starting a new level, but the visible cooldown makes it easier to keep track.
the shop, also available during levels, offers various bonuses and upgrades for your hard-earned cash. still no need to unlock undo or the counter for remaining cards, but you can buy jokers and increase the usefulness of your items. wildcards can also be found while playing, which is fortunate, as jokers are a bit pricey (same as before), as optional as they are. only 4 extra cards can be held at a time, finding another one will put it on top of the pile, so my usual hoarding behavior wasn't welcome here. achievements reward gold, one of the rare instances when they have a purpose, and upgrade prices got toned down, they were ridiculous in legacy of dwarves.
an oversight/bug from the previous game is still present. once you select the ring, it can't be canceled, have to choose a card or two to remove. you can deal another card or use other power-ups, but can't remove anything by pairing them, as the ring is the 'active cursor'. not sure why right click to cancel isn't a thing still, but at least finishing or restarting the level gets rid of it now.
something not seen commonly in these kinda games (though it seems to be a staple for this developer) is limited-time bonuses. if you quickly collect a card covered by a tornado, for instance, it will flip over two random cards, but if you take too long, the tornado will disappear. bonus gold or cards are other examples, but I found these more distracting than useful, and they cover the entire card too. and funnily enough, often when there are items to use to free cards, they're uncovered already and can be used right at the beginning.
great graphics and excellent music, but I would've really liked some new songs, the same soundtrack for every game is lazy as fuck. separate volume settings, windowed mode with a smaller non-resizable window, custom cursor, card fronts and backs, in-game representation of achievements, and multiple player profiles. plus some typos here and there.
the first snow white game had way too many identical cards, the second came with ridiculous upgrade prices, but I think this more or less hits the sweet spot, while still taking about 7 hours. of course, with all the items and some money saved up it's easier to deal with problematic levels, so you might want to concentrate on going forward and return to 3-star stuff later.
A relaxing game, reasonable, non-intrusive music, nice graphics with enough challenge to keep interested. I love this when I want down time from the warp and weft of life.
My fave type of card game, so naturally I had to pick this up because it also had achievements. However, I don't really care for the lettering on the cards, they look really weird and can be confusing at some times. Also, the combo pause is annoying. Other than that, I enjoy it very much.
Very good, entertaining Solitaire game. This game is pretty much flawless. I still don't care for the mini games. They kind of mess up the flow of the game. I look forward to more games from the Developers. 10/10.
