Form over substance.
This could really gain from better story and riddles,
but still giving some enjoyment.
I love point-&-click adventure games, the gameplay with these aesthetics creates an amazing experience.
The writing is where I give pause both in quality and the ways it reflects dominant culture values. After taking the media literacy class recently... this game would be an interesting analyse. Love me a gritty, Gothic setting and characters. Instead of leaving me saying "F*** YEAH" it's more like... "Oh... ah.. mmm. yeah.."
the art is as good as the writing was bad (very)
Blind Prophet can't run in a window and forces 1080p full-screen and if you alt tab for any reason you can't get back into the game... tried a few ways to run it windowed and it didn't take so unfortunately had to refund.
A real shame the game has graphic novel quality art and it got off to a good start but with these playability issues I rather just watch a play-through and save myself any hassles.
The art is incredible, but the puzzles and writing are rather uninteresting.
First: The BIGGEST issue with the game is the interaction wheel. Most of it is just a waste and I truly believe it was a total detriment to the game for it's addition. There should be no reason to talk to an inanimate object, which is 99% what you'll be clicking on. You also cant take most items, which makes sense, but that means the choice is pointless to have. It was a waste of my time using and the developers time making it. There's so much fluff-text, that a few hours into the game, I would just stop reading all text through the wheel altogether and just click all the options to see if something happened. Its annoying and it would've been actually better to simply remove it entirely. A lot of great point-and-click games have single button press prompts and I think that would've just been better as this game already has an incredible style and vibe to keep me interested.
Second: there were several times that, if you didn't remember specific symbols, were rather unintuitive and requiring you to brute force if you forgot something. There's no escape button once you're in certain puzzles, so because you cant back out, your only choice is to solve the puzzle because you're locked in until that puzzle is finished.
Third: The writing was riddled with typos and often many characters just had their names mispelled. it would really throw me out of the flow often and I want to say that it might've just been an oversight from the developer due to the massive bloat of unnecessary text in the game.
This game's story is probably really cool, but the egregious typos and useless text made me really feel like my time was being wasted. I loved the style, premise, and vibe of the game, but for the last 3 times I've booted this game up, I've just been so uninterested to finish it.
Definitely the best point-and-click game I've ever played. The story is fantastic as the villain and hero are complex while most of the story is a dark mature high-stakes detective chase. The setting is great and the art is good and well stylized with the game, like an indie comic book or a graphic novel. You can tell this game is great because everything is fast. It wastes none of your time unlike so many games, although the few minigames are silly. The game length is also surprisingly fulfilling and at the end I felt complete, satiated, and not wanting more.
There's some humor but like all adventure games it's not really funny. The puzzles are definitely easy, which kept frustration to a minimum. Do be very careful when you get to the news corporation scene as I was almost in a bugged loop there like some other players. I played on Linux and the font seemed a little messed up. There could have been a lot more nudity and debauchery like the beginning of the game, but what's there was appreciated.
Got hard locked on the news story computer after selecting the second time and could not exit or load a save, had to alt f4 which on reload took me back to hard lock. Uninstalled and watched a play through, ohh well.
It has been a long time since I played a proper "modern" point-and-click adventure, and this game didn't disappoint. In fact, it's phenomenal. The art is gorgeous, something akin to a mature graphic novel. The story is also interesting and well-told. No Steam Achievements though, and there are a few demons introduced in the lore which are MIA. Perhaps they'll appear in a future sequel?
Excellent game
I don't think I can recommend this game. Or at least not without caveats. The art is well done. The comic book style works well. But the writing is uneven. It has typos and mistakes including things like mixing up which line goes with which character (the color tells you who said it, but they mess it up sometimes). But more than that, the writing is just confusing sometimes. Some of that may be translation difficulties, but sometimes it feels like the explanation or context needed to understand the character's words or actions is just missing. All in all, the story is also kind of uneven, too, but it was pretty interesting and I enjoyed most of it.
I didn't like how this game which is predominantly point and click and heavily story driven with puzzles suddenly switched to reflex-based arcade mini-games. They were not the type of game play I was looking for.
I'm not really sure how to summarize this game. Maybe I'd just say that it's not bad, but with a bit more work maybe it could have lived up to the potential of its story's premise and been really good? As it was, its various flaws mean I don't regret playing it, but I'm glad I'm done with it.
Also: The game's mature content warning mentions the attempted rape, but the game was more violent than I was expecting. So just be warned if that's not your thing.
Fantastic story writing! Kept me fairly immersed in the plot the whole time
Stylish, bold and gripping. The writing is very sharp and I'm eager to see where the story goes next.
I genuinely wish there was more of this game. I loved it so much and the ending left me craving for more. Not to say that the ending is unsatisfying, quite the opposite. I've always loved point-n'-click games, but this one is one of my favorites. The art is amazing and hand-drawn, the music is great, and the puzzles are fun. I also love religious symbolism, so this game is right up my alley. 10/10 I loved it. Wish there was more!
