Your mission: to investigate a shady top secret research project.
Solve puzzles in a beautiful, high-detail brutalist environment which only becomes more and more surreal as the story progresses. Use an array of hi-tech tools to decipher hidden messages and mechanisms and uncover ever deeper and darker secrets of the facility. But beware of what you may find... Once you discover the truth, will you be able to stomach it?

Sci-fi adventure game with some mild horror elements. Tells a pretty good story in 3 hours of gameplay. Played on PSVR2 with 3090ti, no real issues. Some blur, re-projection at times while playing, some of the textures have that unreal engine "plastic sheen". The story is advanced via slow exploration and fairly easy puzzles. The environments are neat, retro future 1960's scifi style space base, with Soviet Union propaganda spread about. Graphics are decent. The voice acting is very good. The bulk of the story/narrative unfolds through environmental clues, and the pace of the story can be a little slow if you aren't drawn into the mystery of the base/mission. If you don't like adventure games with puzzles, or "walking sims" might not be the game for you. I do think that this is an really good interactive story telling experience / a game that really only works well in VR. Excited to play the second one now. Heard it is improved greatly over the first.
Great quick game with awesome atmosphere.
This has been an interesting little VR experience so far. I’m really liking the story and the puzzles. The puzzles aren’t extremely challenging. They’re just enough to make you think a bit, but not so much to make you need to google the solutions.
Graphics and performance are excellent. Texture work is impeccable. It seems well optimized, and it’s always refreshing to have a game work the way it is supposed to. It is crazy to me that smaller dev teams can manage to push out a game that just runs well, yet AAA devs struggle with that concept.
Whereas I’m really enjoying what I have played so far, from what I hear, it’s not a particularly long game. And it makes sense. Playing it, I can just feel that the gameplay wouldn’t translate well to some 10 hour game or something. Having said that, I bought it on sale and probably wouldn’t purchase this for for its full price of $25. But for $12.50 I think it’s well worth it!
UE4 crashed, UE4 crashed, UE4 crashing all the way.
A short, but interesting story with no bugs or the usual "hard to control" glitches.
The only downside here is that it only somewhat supports index controllers. It works fine, but you have to find out the buttons for yourself :)
Graphcis were really good, and movement using the right control was intuitive. Not too hard puzzles, but OK to finish a game in a couple of hours. Looking forward to Re Matter 2 which I will play tomorrow :-)
Pretty short for the price, but looks great and runs very well. Puzzles were fun (except when the piece of paper explaining the laser redirection puzzle clipped through the floor).
It would be nice for dash to be the default setting for long range movement (had to dig into the options to find it), as the default jetpack behaviour was worse for motion sickness than the normal smooth locomotion
A VR reference title
Works fine with PSVR2
Low-Medium Cyber Sickness Level
I've recently learned that there's a PC Adapter for PSVR2 on PC since August and gave it a try. Having RM2 on PS5, I've decided to buy RM1 for PC (on discount atm) and test the PS5 VR headset with it.
Controls are intuitive and the game offers a great variety of interactions and fun ideas (like the translator or the AI communicating with printed cards) and I'm having a blast with the OLED screen of the PSVR2.
As for causing Cyber Sickness, I'd rate the game low to medium (if running smoothly). I prefer the jetpack movement over teleports many other VR puzzle games offer. The slow default walking speed does help too.
To me Red Matter 1 & 2 are must-have VR titles and a good entries to VR too.
Full System:
i9 13900k, Gigabyte Aorus Z790 Master, 2x16 GB DDR5 GSkill Trident Z5 (no RGB crap) 6Ghz, MSI RTX3080ti Gaming Trio X, Soundblaster Z, WD Black SN 850X 4TB M2, Corsair HX850 Platinum PSU (850W)
I'd recommend this game for under $20.
I've only played this for 0.3 hours. But so far I'm very impressed. Like really impressed. Graphics Even the way of jumping between locations seems like floating in space. Nice touch. Need to play more. :)
Good and difficult at times puzzle game with a few spooky parts and great atmosphere. If you want something mysterious with escape room kind of puzzles, this is the game for that.
Decent puzzle game, but very short (2.5 hours) for the asking price, so I'd only recommend this on a sale.
Nitpick: The flashlight is really weird and pointless in the game, you have to hold the trigger for max brightness. It replacing your left hand tool also makes it that much more annoying to use. Should've been on/off toggle on the right hand.
The game does not use the grip button at all, so interacting with stuff is kinda annoying at times, but definitely not an issue.
good but i suck at puzzle
Great scifi puzzle. Good graphics
Bugged - impossible to progress past the power generator room.
Try as I might I cannot complete the circuit board puzzle in the generator room.
The first circuit board all the fuses click into their matching sockets on the board perfectly.
The second board, they are forcibly launched away from the board as if two matching magnetic poles. This makes it impossible to complete the second board required to progress.
The game is unplayable in this state and therefore I can only recommend against buying it.
Finished RM got 95% of the achievements. That's all but 1. I plan a 2nd playthrough on whatever VR HS I might get in the future. This is how VR should be used.
This game was definitely my kind of experience. Reminds me of slow moving sci-fi like Silent Runnings, etc. The settings were drop dead gorgeous. I took my time throughout so I wouldn't miss anything. Everything others said annoyed them (like the guy periodically communicating with you via radio) I really liked. It felt like something from Carpenter's first film Dark Star. The voice acting was fine and really added to it for me personally. I hope the sequel has the same.
Others have mentioned the puzzles being a tad simple. A few challenged my puzzler a little bit. But I just have to make sure to looked at everything. For anyone who might get stuck... just stick it out and keep trying. Nothing better than completing a game like this without getting a hint.
I hope the sequel increases the fright factor. The atmosphere here kept me constantly engaged. But I think it's a slight let down in the end.
Like a really great film, this was well worth what I paid for it. I tried it on the Quest 3 through Meta using Quest+. Loved it. But then I bought it and played it through steamvr and it was quite a bit better looking. This is a game to be explored fully.
I plan to take on the sequel soon. But next I'm going to Genotype.
Totally addictive and probably a good game for people that want to figure out puzzles and are observant, logic will help here. Excellent graphacis and well written.
I finished the game in under three hours. I didn't rush, I took my time and hell I got all but three achievements without even trying. I don't understand, is this it? I'm playing red matter 2 now which is sooo much better. I bought the bundle but I feel totally ripped off on the first one.
