A Card Game KING review

A short game that takes a jab at capitalism and does not take itself seriously. Unfortunately, it also does not provide very interesting gameplay either. if you are looking for a silly card game game for an afternoon, it definitely fits the bill but lacks any content for longer engagement. This is why it's a careful recommendation - know that you are buying a short, simple and silly game.

To give you a brief idea how the gameplay looks:

You choose one of 3 characters (2 are locked fro some reason), each with their own sets of cards with the goal of defeating the "Invisible" Fist 8 times (once peer week). You have 24h each day to play cards which all cost time. Cards can either damage the fist, heal you or reduce stress which accumulates by playing damage cards. Too much stress and cards are more expensive, but keeping a bit of stress is good as your character is motivated and reduces cost of cards.

And that's pretty much it... There is only one boss you fight over and over that either damages you, adds stress or blocks cards. Characters have mildly different playstyles and abilities. In a lot of ways, it's more a pure resource management game than a card game, although you do add cards (which are always available to play). Speaking of which, cards are extremely unbalanced - for some reason there is powercreep in a singleplayer game where some cards are just better versions of other cards.

The positive

+ Short and easy to get into.

+ Nice music.

The neutral

* I rarely comment about the price, but to me the content does not match the full price.

The negative

- Repetitive and no replay value. One boss, few characters with slightly different playstyles and simple gameplay makes the game quickly become boring.

- Cards are not exciting to play.

- Cards are not balanced. There are clearly better versions of the same card.

Conclusion:

If you go into the expectation this is game for one afternoon it's an ok experience. But it lacks any replayability or deep mechanics to hold attention for longer. Careful recommendation.

Very hard, very stressful. I wont fault it for that though because that is the point. I keep getting frustrated yet I keep coming back. Hilarious concept, great execution and a bit too real sometimes.

Invisible Fist is a game I ended up refunding. It looks pretty good in the trailers, but once you start playing, it is bad. Poorly designed, poorly thought out, and not that interesting.

This game has no tutorial. I have played many card games, and this game is like none of them. It has a whole bunch of confusing mechanics which, to be fair, I did eventually figure out. However, they are not explained ingame at all.

The UI for this game is abysmal. Things happen for seemingly no reason. You have to witness something happening multiple times to figure out what you're even seeing.

When I first started the game, I immediately saw a 60 second timer counting down, which made me panic. I thought the rounds were all timed, and thus started panic-clicking random buttons. I died in three turns with no idea what I even did. It turns out the 60 seconds timer thing is a random daily quest your character may have to do, on occasion, but it's not explained at all and feels like something you just have to figure out, like all the rest of the game. It's bad design to have it be in the pool of potential daily quests a new player might need to complete in their FIRST five minutes.

Here's another example. Take a look at the steam store images.

https://i.imgur.com/nuWwpnF.png

In this icon, we see the 'time units', aka the 24 hour system. Cards cost a certain number of hours to play. You only have 24 hours in a day to use for each card. However, if you look at that image, you'll notice it says '2/24 h.'

What does that mean? Do I have two out of twenty-four hours available? Have I used two out of twenty-four hours, and thus have 22 hours available? What about the circle indicator? Which direction does it fill up from? What do its different colors mean?

Sometimes, you get to choose to 'obtain a special card' or 'heal 20 HP' via two binary dialogue choices. These choices are purely cosmetic and don't seem to affect the 'story' whatsoever. However, if you choose the 'special card' option, you don't immediately get a special card. Instead, a chunk of your time disappears for that day, usually around 8 hours, and you can't use it for anything. Nothing in the game tells you this. I figured it out through trial and error.

Also, when you go to pick a new special card, or a new normal card, you cannot look at the cards you already have. You just have to try and remember them all. Bad design.

Take a look at this screen. (Yes, it has a typo; 'Permamently'.) https://i.imgur.com/h4sbZMW.png

That's the screen for special cards, which you get when you pick the aforementioned 'get a new special card' instead of the 'heal 20 HP' option. It may look like you pick a card from the four offered yellow cards, but you don't. The choice is always predetermined. You just seem to get one of them randomly. What is even the point of showing me the other cards?

Clunky. Inconsistent. No explanations. Confusing.

If these words describe your favorite games, maybe you'll love Invisible Fist. I, however, did not.

I don't recommend this as a game but I love the irreverent humour ( I've known since I was 17 years old that Capitalism is fubared ).

I tossed the developers $3.56 CDN in a sale because the trailer makes me LMAO. If anything this game inspired me not to play it - I could be doing something more productive. I'm working a 7 day work week this week and I'm watching sci-fi shows like "Altered Carbon" and "The Expanse". I really need to exercise too! I fell into a random job that I fell in love with ( it is possible ; I do fundraising for hospitals, arts centres and charities ).

I found the Invisible Fist purely by chance and I found it really fresh since most games these days present topics that are more "acceptable" or avoid trying to offend anyone. Failcore does the opposite and goes full on. The game may ruffle some feathers but at least one can have a good time playing.

It's not a huge game but as you play the writing and the variety of cards keep it fresh even if you don't earn enough stars to make it through.

The cards themselves are unique, unexpected, sometimes a little awful (in the sense why should I make my character do that??) But there are really some things you MUST do to survive or to at least finish the weekly quest on time. There's a lot of great attention to detail in the icons and the descriptions.

I felt like the whole system is set up in a way that you do get a different experience playing each character. Sometimes the status ailments change things up a lot and make it even more challenging.

While this is just a game, there might be a grain of truth (or many) in the way some things are represented between the social classes. Overall I think it's a fun and courageous first game, well done and pretty good quality for such a small team. I had a good time playing it. I'd recommend the Invisible Fist and hope to see more games like it.

A stylish card & time management game with political and social commentary. The amount of random actions and effects available offers decent replayability, although some combinations might feel frustrating and need a bit of balancing out. While game isn't hard to figure out, short tutorial as well as more tool tips would be a welcome addition.

Gets bonus points for humor and really nice soundtrack!

I'd score this between a 6.4...up to a 8.9

Which would of course be...on a scale of 1.002 to 11.822 (hopefully that's not convoluted at all...I strive for clarity through uniform grading systems)

Bottom Line...

Creative, stylistic time management/card game (kind of a card game....you don't really draw cards as far as I can tell...but it's all good), I like the offbeat humor and I love the music.

It's interesting....and I think I'd put it down as oddly appealing...I feel like for the price I should probably be getting a little bit more...or perhaps the mechanics aren't as well developed as I'd like for them to be at the price point it's at or something like that...but I'm enjoying the game and it's one of those more than the sum of it's parts things that make giving it any kind of objective score tricky....thus the range I gave above (see above).

But yeah I'd recommend it.
