Great RTS - City builder
Good Game but forces you to use Ubisoft Connect which is absolutely useless. Beyond that the game also doesn't run.
It was great until it froze during play and will not launch now.
so iv'e played this game back in the day and sadly because of ubisoft i am unable to play it despite already having an account and putting the right details in. it asks me to rest my password but then does not sand me the email to do this and after trying multiple way's to contact them, they don't seem to reply resulting in an unplayable game so if don't know your login's or are unable to login DON'T GET ANY UBISOFT GAME!!!! because you wont be able to play it.

Still good today. Not overly complicated, just plain fun.
I've loved this game since it first came out. I remember being amazed at the graphics then, though of course they're a bit dated now, but no less charming. It's easily my favourite game in the Settlers franchise, and the only one I play again and again. In fact, it's my favourite game of all time and easily the one I've played the most hours on and for the longest time, period; first on disc, and then on multiple other platforms later on. This is the game that got me into gaming. Heck, when I first got it, my computer couldn't handle it and wouldn't show me the actual screen, only the buttons that come up when you press on things, so I was randomly clicking around the screen trying to find something to interact with so I could play it, and I was still obsessed even playing blind!!
In short:
-Good plot
-Good balance of city/ resource management, battle, tactics and story.
-Easy to understand; no 3 hour tutorial, the game guides you through gracefully.
-Love that it doesn't go on forever like most modern games and you can finish a map between 1-3 hours usually, so there's an end point where you feel you've accomplished something, like finishing a story chapter.
-Definitely try the expansion pack- more story, more maps, more fun!
-Not turn-based.
-Free placement of buildings; no grid.
-Different story for every map- try them all!
-Engaging!

I remember playing this for hours when I was younger on my dad's pc. Now i can play it again and its still pretty good

I used to love the settlers, it was a nice slow paced city builder with combat elements, Maybe I am just old but the nice pace and everything is just comforting. You end up spending so many hours playing it without really noticing.
Controls are easy, with a few exceptions, missions are not difficult and the lack of micro managing is refreshing to return to.
1st I need an external tool to play? I use Steam to avoid that.
2nd: The registration in the tool OR on the website does not even work for whatever reason and the game does not start without an account - I just want to play single player, an account is absolutely not necessary from ANY technical point of view.
Ubisoft, you do not earn any points with this shitty system.
Do not buy! Worst user experience I have ever had with a game.
TLDR: game crashes immediately upon start because I dared try tweak the video settings. No known fix too btw. First start up also had plenty of bugs.

It's a quaint little charming city builder with the worst combat ever devised.
Grand Warning!!! Dear players be aware that this game takes much more disk space that initially required. For me it took 70+GB additional allocated memory on my hard drive. I finally got program that verifies how many space takes a program on pc. And it verified that this game took 70+Gb of actual space +allocated space. After game deletion my disk free memory added 70+GB... Same thing goes for other Games like Ceasar4(up to 20GB) or Sea Dogs To each his own(up to 50GB instead of basic 12GB). or Rome Total War Gold Edition(complete)(40+GB instead of 4GB) or Sea Dogs City of Abandoned ships(up to 40GB instead of 8GB).... So i suggest to check your PC with such programs if you have trouble with LIMITED HARD DRIVE SPACE...
