No longer updating... last update April 22, 2022.
This game is abandoned. It had potential but there are too many bugs to enjoy any of the game play. DO NOT BUY.
No update in over a year sadly but has a good idea behind it. Many bugs as expected of an alpha stage game and doesn't have much content. I don't recommend anyone buy it as it looks to be dead in its development phase.
Had I known this game would be ditched in this state for another project I would never of bought it. It is in a terrible state and its been almost of year of silence. This is basically an Alpha game at best. Wait until updates appear after this review to even consider buying it.
I am in love with build animations and I like being able to take the king under direct control. But right now the game is unplayeble and it's not even in early access state. Lags with village of 100-120 population. The king got stuck under textures twise in 2 hours.
Make Your Kingdom: City builder is quite an interesting city building simulator. Pretty cartoonish drawing, which pleases the eye.
A decent number of actions, opportunities. The gameplay here is not poor.
And most importantly, you need to repel the misfortunes of the orcs xD
The game is worth its money.
This would be an easy yes to a great medieval city builder.
But then the earthquake happens. I can't defend myself against it.
I can't interact with it in any way other than cleaning up the mess.
Random events that stop you from playing and make you want to ragequit should not be in the game.
It would be a different story if there was an extra resource that made my structures resistant to quakes.
Or if having extra architects made your buildings safe against quakes.
I do not mind the orcs. They steal my stuff and destroy buildings but i can DO SOMETHING against them. I can fight or build walls. Produce weapons and make guards.
These are my thoughts and whingy noices for now.
Interesting visual style, I love city-building simulators since the days of the amusement park in PS1 and everyone's favorite sim city (now dead). Good urban development. I was especially pleased that in any case, the city will resemble a city, since roads are provided around. Great idea with the king unit. You can not wait to reach key development points, being bored, but spend this time usefully, building something, dragging some resources or talking with residents. I hope for the further development of the game and that the developers will please us
Having a mill and a farm directly across a road from each other is apparently not a good enough pathway for my 20 idle villagers to do something about it, leading to a lot of starvation.
A completely exposed mine is also too blockaded to allow for villagers to collect the stone that is needed for them to build enough housing to prevent them all from freezing.
You cant build over trees unless you either wait an hour for the nearby sawmill to cut them down, or build and delete roads in order to remove the trees.
Cute game. The ability to be an active part of the city as opposed to a top-down god is a welcome change, but without upgrades to the mechanics of the game, this isnt worth playing for more than a few hours.
A fun building simulator with unique graphics. Of course, I do not like cubic graphics, but here it is tolerable.
We build mines, add resources, build our kingdom. There is a change of day and night. You can also switch to 3rd person mode and start hunting for animals.
Make Your Kingdom is an interesting simulator in which you will have to build your own kingdom, starting from the foundation.
In this game, there is nothing more important than the importance of your kingdom, it needs to be developed and expanded. In doing so, you will encounter many problems, ranging from resource extraction to weather conditions.
Recommended for fans of this genre!
I really like the concept for this game. It looks good and has decent mechanics. But wow is the ai terrible. Controlling one of your people is basically required in this game, since I can't expect any of them to do anything except work in the buildings. I find it was at its worst with the farm. My crops would be sitting there with max wheat, both the sheep farm and mill completely empty, and the people just... wouldn't deliver it. I also constantly found them stuck on buildings and, in one case, a mountain that wasn't even near a road. I also have some problems with the building aspect of the game, like how deleting roads doesn't actually remove the texture, leaving you with a grey patch forever haunting you if ever you change plans. I also have some minor nitpicks, like how you can't destroy and replace a building without waiting for the admittedly fun explosion to end, as well as the occasional random explosion of logs that will rain from the sky. This game is in early access and it really needs to be marked as such, because I cannot imaging this was the intended final product for a game with this much promise.
It's clear the dev put a lot of thought and effort into this game, which is why it is strange there are so many little obvious bugs and poor UI choices. I'm guess he's just a quirky dude.
The prologue often has menus that pop-up over each other. No good control over objectives being completed in a way that was not initially expected.
Weird partial opacity for the UI. You will have pop up text over UI text over building hover text often, and none can be read.
The tutorial has arrows that point to locations on the UI - if you go to say, first person mode, those arrows will move to a different, arbitrary location.
Your main character draws his bow by... pushing the bow forward?! Goofy.
The intro and other menus/messages have about a second of fade in/out, w/ scaling opacity. So you are seeing more juxtaposed text. This is a basic UI/UX no-no.
I understand the off-set view in 3rd person, but you should have it at a different angle or zoom. It's very awkward. Compare to... well, literally any other 3rd person action title. Literally any. They're all better in this regard.
You can pick up resources, but it's not clear at all how to add them to a building. you only have 'take' and 'drop'
The controls menu is unusable in some resolutions - it will appear to the side of the central 'settings' menu (why? what is that about?) and the right-hand portion is off the screen, and cannot be manipulated.
Buildings will build with road-pieces at their entrances. This is likely supposed to be 'helpful', but what about when I am placing blocks of structures? It's such a nuisance, having to constantly delete roads. In addition, having roads cost nothing makes them a little meaningless, but that one can chalk up to preference.
You cannot place multiple buildings of the same type. You need to click, select, click. Baffling.
This is all obvious stuff clear from just a couple minutes of play, as you can see from my 'time played'. I haven't even been able to experience the mechanics of the game to comment on the core play. All of these easily fixable issues were too distracting - it's just weird!
Try a playthrough of this from the beginning with fresh eyes. Try playing Kingdoms and Castles, and compare the experiences.
Spend a week or so fixing this up and doing it right. I know the younger generation prefers cheap, fast instant gratification, but it'd be a shame to see the effort here go to waste.
Fun game concept, unfortunately, it has a lot of bugs and is generally quite broken. It has the tells of a unity game that doesn't have a strong back end; a lot of the buildings can't be accessed by villagers, some need access from multiple angles but don't detail it, food buildings often won't acquire raw resources even if the buildings are put right beside them, villagers will starve even if there is food, and a lot of the maps have random spots that you simple cannot build on despite them not having any sort of obstacle. I would honestly refund the game if I hadn't gone over the two hour limit, seeing as how the time was spent across a number of short playthroughs where each time some sort of mechanic, usually food production failed. I was under the impression I was at fault for not understanding specific mechanics properly, or managing development, though it became apparent that neither of those were the case after enough time.
I really enjoy these games, been looking for a good city-sim with combat and defense building. This one is very fun and is promising after fixes and updates.
Pros:
You get to run around your town as the king.
The combat/defense system is interesting and different then most sims that do not offer this threat system.
Personally enjoy the art style
Cons:
The AI is very buggy, sometimes they get stuck and wont do anything.
The interface is terrible compared to other games in this genre.
Almost no ability to fine tune production and task management besides the "priority" list that seems more like a please 'think about working on this' rather then 'focus on this'.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong when i'm creating my kingdom but it just seems like the AI has a mind of their own and hardly care about the priority list. I just think a better system for carrying out work and setting tasks would be nice as the current system seems very dull and lackluster.
It's a mediocre kingdom builder, worse than dozens of similarly priced games out there like Kingdoms & Castles or Kingdoms Reborn. The main reason that I call it mediocre is because there's really no information given to you by the game. How many people should a building have as workers? How many low production buildings do I need to feed a refined production, and how many refined production do I need for my citizens? Is my city falling into disrepair because I don't have enough architecture buildings, because I don't have enough workers in the architecture buildings, because I don't have enough planks to support repairs, or because I don't have enough wood to support the plank factories? No clear information is given, you're just kind of expected to watch all of the numbers over time and know what the ratios are for buildings.
The thing that's supposed to make this game different is that you can control people yourself to do work, but the controls for doing that are iffy. I got stuck a lot, and in several cases I couldn't access the place I was supposed to drop materials off at or help with construction at.
I love airships. And I played Rimworld for over 1000 hours, so I kinda know how to manage a colony. ;)
This game is quite interesting and the style is minimalistic but not bad. There is a few bugs and it feels like an Early Access game, even if it isn't marked as such.
I like that there's supposed to be enemies, even if I didn't get that far in two hours.
My people starved because none of my 7 settlers was willing to become a baker, even after disabling all other jobs (putting bread to highest priority didn't do anything). So after filling it with resources, all I could do was standing next to the mill, watching my people starve and my buildings crumble. I recognize this was a mistake I made myself, not necessarily a game issue.
But because of the EarlyAccess-feeling I'll return it after playing it for 2 hours. I'll come back in a while and will check it out later.
Make your kingdom before us. After spending two hours in this game, I was satisfied with the construction mechanics. Thanks to my Russian friend I was able to watch the developer's address to the players. I was struck by the fact that this game was made by ONE person!
Thanks to his hard work, he gave us a fairly good urban simulator, which can compete with Cities: Skylins, but in its own setting.
The pluses that I highlighted for myself:
1) Divine overhead views for observing the city
2) Own participation in the construction of the same city (we keep up with our people)
3) Nice interface.
Of the minuses to my surprise, I did not identify anything for myself. Most likely not attentively played :D
I love the fact that you can play as one of the settlers - it’s a small touch, but definitely makes this game more enjoyable. Sometimes you get a really beautiful view walking through your town (even though it’s just a low poly game and graphics are pretty simple). Overall I like it, though there were a few bugs and optimization is still much needed.
Cute little game. But unfortunately there isnt much content. There are so many other colony builders out there that will captivate you for hundreds of hours.
A fun game with elements of building your settlement. A distinctive feature of the game is that you can manage your employees and participate in the development of your kingdom directly by yourself.
Very nice little survival strategy game. Entertaining gameplay, but for me one minus is too simple graphics and textures. Buildings are sometimes indistinguishable from each other. But overall the game is good.
