Thank you for this masterpiece 👍
Absolute cinema
I like the pixel style of games. This game has both good and not so good moments.
・the style and the game plan are pretty good, 「4/5」
but I don't really like the characters except for the knight 「2/5」slow and not beautiful characters, the old man is not very beautiful nothing special, the girl is slow and has a bad character.
・sometimes I like history and philosophy, talking with cats and moments with grandma are good. 「4/5」
In general, history and philosophy are not very good stories. 「3/5」
If want to convey such a subtle moral of the story, then need to make the plot more understandable, since this is a sensitive moral. if the plot doesn't work out very well, it's better to make it a mystery.
I don't like the angle from which the moral is presented and whether it is said correctly, since I don't agree with some points in the final part. and at the end there is too much "animation" fighting with the dragon and so on, why doesn't the player do this but watches the animation for like 10 minutes.
Overall I like everything except the story and the essence of the game and the 2 characters
I would like to continue playing games like this but with a normal plot.
The gameplay is incredibly clunky, even though this game should not be about the gameplay I've had to many moments where my character didn't do what I wanted it to do. You move too slow for a game where you have to track back to previous locations to continue where you sometimes spent 5 minutes slowly going over the whole map trying to find where you have to go. The slowness took most of my enjoyment away.
But then the game should be about the story, but it's hard to follow with these weird metaphors and no clue as to how the 3 stories are connected up until the final scene. Which is just one long cutscene because they couldn't finish the story with actual gameplay.
If you like slow gameplay and "deep" storytelling give it a go. Otherwise do not recommend.
there are better games but few of tell a better story. try to play it in a few sessions so the narrative stays coherent. but don't think this is a gameplay focused piece
Beautiful game with sad, but hopeful message
Good game.
It's such a beautiful game, one of the best games I've played. I honestly don't know why it doesn't get as much love as it should but it's definitely a hidden gem, especially for those who love dark psychological horror and deep emotional moments. Few games ever hit me really hard but I cried playing this, there are quite a few trigger warnings, self-harm, suicide, death, spiders... obvious by the trailer, neglect, and parental abuse. Just to name the ones I remember. I played and got this game as soon as it was released and thoroughly enjoyed the story, art, and characters, yet I completed it in 3.9H. So if you want an extremely deep game, with a great story, that doesn't take up much time to complete no matter how slow you play... this is for you.
Very good experience.
The gameplay can be kinda iffy at times but its a surprisingly beautiful game with a lot of heart in it
Pain and love forever dancing together
So, fair warning, this is not the adventure platformer/metroidvania you might expect from the trailer. This is a three hour story with light platforming and puzzle elements. And it's a good story! Emotionally resonant and very well presented. If you're in the mood for a bittersweet interactive movie with stunning pixel animation, highly recommended. If you're looking for another Hollow Knight, this is not that game.
Tematica algo oscura, bonito pixel art
very sad and a little confusing, but the confusion is a worthy sacrifice for the sense of mystery it gives off. on game play fronts I've never seen such a way to make bad game design work. in 99% of games if the character took 10 minuets to get across the map with no (practical) fast travel, that would be considered tedious. And rightly so, but because the theme of the game the tediousness is acually a good thing for me. The appeal of this game is using the medium of video games in a unique way. not for epic gameplay or a movie with shooting levels, but a story you experience in a more personal way just because you are controlling the characters. It's definitely not for everyone, but I definitly liked it. and remember this review is without spoilers, and if i was to include spoilers it would be a lot longer and more positive.
This is probably the most boring "game" I've ever played. As a piece of art, its cool. It's hardly worth calling a game though. If you were to simply watch a Youtube video of it then you'd essentially be getting the same experience bec the majority of the time you are just watching cut scene after cut scene anyway. The actions sequences are hardly action, there is no challenge to enemies, clunky controls and no challenge to puzzles. Dont waste your money or more importantly, your time.
A quick, deeply emotional puzzle platformer. You will not understand things until the ending cutscene, so WATCH IT. The puzzles can be very ridiculous, so if you get stuck, there is a great video guide.
I thought I'd give this one a try because Im a fan of 8-bit graphics, but on the whole I found the whole atmosphere of the game very sad and depressing... which in all honesty is exactly how the game presents itself in the adverts.
So, maybe I should have just moved on and not bought the game.
I found the storyline difficult to follow. It felt like during production there were 10 managers and consequently 10 different people had been working on 10 different game projects at the same time and they tried to roll it all into one game so that it all somehow made sense in the end... Well... I dunno. I guess it depends on what you want, but it certainly isn't something that'll cheer you up during lonely winter nights.
The music and artwork did a good job of making me feel like life is pointless and senseless.
Pretty good Game! This story sneaks up on you, unfolding gradually until the full weight of its meaning hits like a freight train. Even now, reflecting on the experience, I find tears in my eyes. The game captures grief and loss with an emotional depth I haven’t encountered before—it resonated with me even more than Gris.
As a foster parent, the themes of grief and loss felt profoundly personal, connecting me to the pain I know so many children endure. This is a beautifully crafted experience that lingers long after you’ve finished playing. Truly unforgettable.
Wow, where did this little gem come from? This is a wonderful, tightly-crafted game from start to finish.
The story is unique, multi-layered, and engrossing, and is supported by solid narration. The animations and visual effects, both in and out of cut-scenes, along with the musical scores are professional grade and extremely well done. All together they evoke very strong emotions and atmosphere throughout the story.
The game also focuses on its purpose and does not waste your time. It is short enough that it can be experienced in just a few hours, but makes use of every moment you are playing to unfold its story for you.
(I bought this on sale, but I honestly would have been happy with it at full price.)
This is a masterpiece. I recommend committing a few hours and completing it in one sitting. It is very much worth it.
In a world saturated by gloomy color filters: a knight slays inky corruption, a middle aged man wanders the entangled dreamscape, and a young child struggles to cope in an abusive home. The stories slowly intertwine over the roughly five hour runtime through clearly distinct sections designated for combat, platforming, and cinematic plot development. The child's perspective in particular is so succinctly and earnestly presented that it's easy to become emotionally invested. I'm not spoiling the plot here, but it's evident from the beginning that everybody is condemned to some form of Metaphor Narrative Hell and it is ultimately the game's goal to make sense of it all by navigating the mystical setting while dispelling dark threats. Put yo boots on cause you're gonna be wading in about 6 inches of content warnings.
This might be coming from an obscure place but the art style reminds me of the older sprite work that can be found in titles on the Wonderswan. The animation frames are top notch, the environments are distinctive, and there are enough unique enemy assets to keep the problem solving fresh-- at least for the first half of the game.
The cracks start to show around the point where an elevator is fixed, when the puzzle platforming sections start getting shorter, the combat sections faster, and the focus becomes heavily fixed on the walking plot segments. This comes to a head when the final challenge of the game is, in actuality, remembering to throw a switch before dodging three tentacle traps in a room, then walking the screen to the right to trigger the 20 minute-ish cutscene that plays out the climax of the action and the final plot reveals without any input from the player. There were multiple times during the end where I expected control to be returned for the big finale, but alas, it was all a scripted exposition dump until the credits rolled.
This is extremely hyperbolic, but the lack of interactivity here at the end is almost blasphemous to the spirit of the genre (puzzle platformer, cinematic platformer, however you want to define it). A small silver lining here is that this would have been much more egregious if the game length was double or triple the current runtime. I'm very conflicted here because Inmost's gameplay for the first half is mechanically solid with casual difficulty that's all elevated by immersive, detailed 2D art, but the 1-2 punch of a weaker second half into the denial of a final challenge is just too much to ignore. I'm curious as to whether this was an actual creative decision or the result of a development that needed to wrap up due to resource limitations.
I struggled with my thoughts for a couple days before writing this out. It almost hurts my soul to thumbs down this title because it's evident that much blood, sweat, and tears went into design and development, and if this studio ever releases another game, I'd totally give it a shot, but just flying the plane ain't enough-- you also got to stick the landing.
Also, I appreciate that there's a giant spider that's not generically hostile. Spiders are friends (mostly, depending on geography).
6/10
While the gameplay is very slow and dragged out, the story more than makes up for it. Starting off slow, I wasn't entirely convinced by the game at first, but then the ending hit and it made it all worth it. All of a sudden every part about this game made sense. I strongly believe that anyone who left a negative review on here, did not finish the game... and that's their bad. They are missing out.
WOW, just wow. This story sneaks up on you as you slowly realize what is happening and once you realize what it's about a freight train hits you at full speed. I still find tears in my eyes as I'm reflecting on this experience. This game captures grief and loss in a way I haven't seen before, it's way more related to me than Gris was. The grief and loss is very personal to me as foster parent and the pain I know our children have gone through.
An excellent experience ,Definitely worth the price with the discounts i dont know if i will buy it with the normal price, i really love the graphics its beautiful with a good ost the story was mid, i really recommend this game
Great atmospheric game, touching story, beautiful pixel art. Feels like an interactive novel. Enjoyable and simple platforming and combat (not the main focus of the game)
An incredibly beautiful game. Think of it as a long form interactive movie. Beautiful story, game play, and world.
A story of pain, grief, and the love that forms the basis of it all. There are three narratives to this game - the Knight, the Girl, and the Wanderer. The Knight 'steals' pain from the world, battling dark energies that rarely leave one unscathed. The Girl traverses an unfamiliar house, subconsciously seeking an answer she is scared to ask. The Wanderer's story is more fleshed-out, filled with past grief, guilt, and determination. All three archetypes are intricately connected to tell a tale too harrowing for a young child. Maybe all the adults feel the same way, too. We were all once but a child, and children we remain within for most of our lives.
I think many of us will have encountered or personally experienced the three archetypes present in this game. The Knight - doing what we think is best to carry us on through grief, trudging through life performing self-sacrificing acts if only to seek salvation; The Girl - confused and lost, feeling helpless in the face of uncertainty and loss of hope, loss of love; The Wanderer - picking ourselves up time and again through grief and pain, determined to love and be loved regardless of how much suffering we've gone through.
No one can be faulted for their pain and tragedy. Each process their own differently, the way they themselves feel most comfortable to do. This applies to life and suffering as a whole too, imo. Life cannot be faulted for the suffering we experience. It is its own thing and we just so happen to be in a certain state of awareness surrounded by certain circumstances which contributes to a certain experience.
Sometimes when terrible things happen, it might seem easier to let that consume you as a whole because that's the closest semblance of whatever love we had for what we lost. And for many, many people, losing who and what we love can be overwhelming. Grief is just love that does not know where else to go, after all. But moving on doesn't mean losing this love. Sometimes it just means transmuting it and laying the past to rest.
FYI I did cry a little. 10/10.
Amazing story game, just play it
Inmost is absolutely beautiful in all aspects, and controls very well as a game. However, it is pure 100% melancholy, so I recommend you play it when you're in a good space to experience something great that'll bring down the mood.
If you're like me and enjoy horror adventure type games then this is for you - if you like story-rich and metahphoric narratives then this is also for you. Inmost is not necessarily the most gameplay intensive or skill-based game, but the atmospherics, the music, the story are all top notch. Also pixelart?? Sign me up
definitely one of the metroidvanias of all time. story is very abstract and hard to follow which isn't my cup of tea. the fancy pixel graphics are very colorful and you can tell they put a lot of the budget in the soundtrack, which is lush and super dramatic. plays well, although i found the constant character switches to be disruptive.
i'd say it's worth a playthrough, especially if you wanna justify the hundreds of dollars you blew on an iCue setup, like i did! enjoy the pretty lights. :')
Absolutely gorgeous game with a cool art style and one of the best core ideas I've ever seen in my life. If you are going through a hard time, then try completing it.
Very enjoyable 2D, story-driven platformer. I'm not entirely sure why I liked it so much, but I did. The ending, I may not have agreed with entirely but it's overall message was unifying and relatively positive. Love and pain are feelings most people can relate to and it's difficult at times to make sense of it all. The mechanics in this game were fairly simple and easy to navigate; you play as 3 different characters with different capabilities (for example, while one character hops and can only crawl on top of items to get from one place to another, a different character is able to jump while the third can utilize a slingshot to get around vertically or horizontally). This game is pretty story-heavy, especially at the end so if you dislike such things or tend to Ctrl-Skip you may want to be prepared for that.
Cute little (dark) game, great art.
Totally recommend
Pretty good
A beautiful and unexpectedly emotional story. Didn't expect to see the potrayal of a pertinent human feeling in such a captivating way. Would recommend to get on sale.
blown away by the story. went in blind with no expectations. what a beautiful game!
This game is a very interesting way to design a Psychological Horror. It'll keep you on the edge of your seat, wondering what's real and what's a figment of the character's imagination until the end, but by that point, you get to fit all the pieces together. A very emotionally compelling story indeed.
From a gameplay perspective, I like how the world is designed like a Metrovania interweaving between different paths by unlocking it using the tools and items you find along the way. It also comes with hidden collectibles that are optional but can be turned in for more story context from the Storyteller. If you manage to find most of them before ending the game though, it feels like a spoiler unless you haven't been able to decipher the events of the plot yet.
The animation is extremely expressive. The controls are a bit clunky but if you die, it doesn't set you back very far at all, allowing you to constantly progress the story.
Very good art, fascinating story, really had me captivated for 3 and a half hours.
Jogo de triste, lindo e profundo.
Absolute cinema. Uma história de amor mal interpretada. Por quem? Compre e descubra...
There are a lot of reviews that criticize the vague story and claim that instead of being able to experience the narrative they were just confused the whole time.
Do not let these reviews stop you from buying this masterpiece, please. I understood the story, and this game hit me harder than any game since "That Dragon, Cancer". Don't assume you won't understand, because this is a game worth understanding.
(I'm not saying the story is straight forward, nor am I blaming people who didn't get it, I'm merely saying the chance that you do get it is worth it.)
Did not expect it to be the emotional rollercoaster it was.
Wow.
a very sad and happy game
This was beautiful and incredibly sad. Loved this one.
This is one of those games that people may tell you is a deep, emotional, slowburn. Don't believe them. You'll mostly be confused and kind of annoyed the game keeps its most interesting ideas razor-thin in small, barely interactive segments.
Inmost is a mild, unchallenging mini-Metroidvania drenched in mopey vibes. Very short, about 3 hours with as little as 2.5 hours of actual gameplay. That's about it. No recommended.
Highlights:
- Great sound work and musical score
- Strong sense of art direction and mood
Issues:
- Confusing, melodramatic plot with fragmented gameplay, constantly switching protagonists
- Movement is slow and plodding, platforming either bland or obnoxious
- Easy to not know what to do next, can get obtuse and directionless
- The only mechanically cool character (the knight) is given simple, basic levels. A potential cool boss fight you should be playing is locked to a cutscene! Why is the player not given this cool fight? Why am I watching it?!
This is an amazing game, that is quite difficult to categorize. If you enjoy good storytelling, this is definitely the game for you.
The music, aesthetics and voice acting are of pristine quality, and the overall feel of the game left me absolutely stunned.
3/10. had potential, ending was 'ok' and art is cool but game has no substance. playing as the old man instead of the knight for 80% of the game was awful and story was convoluted for no reason.
