A good continuation in the series, not much is new in this game for the time management genre but it is still cute and has some humor in the story. It is a worthy continuator for the series.
The smaller map sizes are a welcomed change in my opinion :)
If someone hasn't played the other games in the series, maybe he'll like it, but if they haven't played it, hardly.
A rather stupid and boring story.
Megara is spoken of more than Hercules in these games. Hercules can't wipe his ass without helping. They should have named the game The Adventures of Megara and maybe Hercules.
Or rather the adventures of the workers because in this Hercules does almost nothing and is absent at times. And for some strange reason, they are dressed like sailors, constantly not caring where they are.
The levels are boring and monotonous without any meaning.
There are one or two new things, but they are almost nothing compared to the first part.
From seven games until now, there are still these stupid achievements beating the record of the creator complete stupidity.
It seems that the creators exhausted long ago.
The only good thing is that it is cheap, but unfortunately it is the last one.
Every next one is worse and more expensive.
Complete bullshit.
This worked with Windows 10 for me.
It's a good game. You play it by clicking on things. (Boy does that describe a lot of games.) Clicking on something assigns a worker, or, contextually, another character, to take that action, collecting resources, fixing things, upgrading buildings, and demolishing obstructions. Where the gameplay comes in there are limited pathways that restrict what things you can do, until you open those pathways up; and you need to, quickly, on the fly, work out what to do next, and where to set your priorities. Each level has a different kind of puzzle to work out. If that sounds like your kind of thing, buy it.
It's the eighth in the series, hopefully you know what you're getting into by this point. Adds a few mechanics. Runs great on Steamplay.
This game was just ok. I've played others in this lineup of Hercules, and I also play a lot of time management games (on this platform and on others), and this game was pretty random. The music, in particular, was extremely random. Couldn't decide what genre or mood it wanted to bring to the game, so chose a little of everything, but in an odd way. The story line was also incredibly weak. I'd give it 2.5 stars.
Another great one in the series, although think this should as the 1st or 2nd one in the series since it's how Hercules met Megara.
So, the game is awesome and if you liked previous games, then buy it.
If you want to earn all achievements you should to know, that this part of game harder then a couple of first games.
Some levels very hard and some enough easy even if you turn on the expert mode.
At this point, I just have to advise that I can only recommend these games to those who have been into 12 Labours of Hercules since the first game. Newcomers certainly might get confused because of the story, although it still comes with a tutorial in every single game.
all around solid supply gathering game. story doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but the game is fun anyway
Game is same like its predecessors. Currently it is Profile Feature Limited which means its statistics will not add with your existing. But I hope this will be gone soon as more people will like and play this.
Another great Hercules game. I have every version from the very beginning. The game continues to add small new things to make it interesting. The toughest part of the game is the Developers rounds but at least you only have to do 20 out of the 40 available maps.
I definitely recommend this game for any fan of the Hercules series.
As good as all previous games and even better.
P.S. I hope one day "Profile Features Limited" will be off and we finally get trading cards and achievements counting in statistics.
Hercules wakes up in a daze and looks around as his current predicament.
He doesn't know where he is.
He can't remember how he got here.
But what is certain of, is her. Megara. She lays there, cold and pallid on the floor of their room, staring through him with lifeless eyes that still seem to hold an accusatory sting.
Looking down at his hands, he is mad with confusion, racked with apparent guilt.
Until he sees a slip of papyrus woven between his fingers.
Unravelled it simply says: Egypt.
It's also a pretty fun series of beat the clock clicker management.
The quality of Hercules shines through again! Another excellent installment of the Greatest
Time-Management series ever. They've managed to move past 6-7 and back to the roots of 3-5 :), while still keeping it fresh, fun and creative. However, some of these levels are the fastest most frenetic I've played ;) My head was spinning haha.
Overall, they've accomplished a fun, new direction for the series... Genius, pure Genius !!
After recently playing through this again I rank it #2 in the series behind 5. The depth of the strategy is amazing. When you lock onto how each level is meant to be played it's like Neo in The Matrix fighting Smith at the end... you lose yourself in the binary code flowing around you ;)
If you've played any of the other Hercules games, this is more of the same. To me, this is not a bad thing; I love them, and have all of them, and even replay them once in a while. Just random levels on random games.
If you haven't played them, it's just a matter of clicking on things that can be harvested, moved, built, etc., and your servants run to do it. It's a time management game, so that means that to get gold, you need to be organized (I'm not, very,) but for the more casual player, it's not as if the game makes you start the level over if you don't finish in time.
The colors are bright, as usual, and engaging, there is a little bit of a story; just to give a reason for all this work, and the music is nice (someone on the soundtrack is a pretty good mandolin player.)
I'm not good at twitchy games, and I usually don't like having a timer working against me; it stresses me out, but in the case of the Hercules games, the timer actually doesn't bother me, even though I miss sometimes and have to decide whether to replay the level, or settle for silver or bronze instead of gold...
Recommended for the casual gamer, and great for kids who are old enough to get the concept and understand where to click. There's nothing deep here, it's just fun and a little challenging (or very challenging on some levels,) and kind of relaxing. A good game to pick up and play a level or two in a spare bit of time.
Short version: 62%
‘How I Met Megara’ works perfectly fine as a decent time manager with refined and time-tested controls. However, it lacks any new ideas and most of its levels feel as if they are doing just the bare minimum to make them playable.
Long version:
The problem with a time management game series lasting this long is that it is difficult to come up with nearly half-hundred interesting levels at each new instalment without radically changing gameplay mechanics (and thus alienating the fans). This is where 12 Labours of Hercules VIII: How I Met Megara feels like as if it did not ever want to try.
If you played previous games, you know all the basics by heart now. The good news is that you will not need anything else than those, as we are stripped to almost the most fundamental elements with practically no special gimmick attached.
The stages feel similarly phoned-in, especially the early ones. The layouts are simple and often uninspired, as if most of them were just rejected ideas throughout the years that finally saw the light of day.
Do not think the game is easy though: all timed modes are relentless, and beating any developer high score takes impeccable timing and the perfect use of bonuses. On the other hand, this game was obviously made for the fans, so this challenge should be right up anyone’s alley, as long as they can combat the boredom some of the stages bring.
Enjoyable next installment in the series! I think there might even be some new music? I liked the optional level switches that were added this time around. I love this series and find it a relaxing way to spend some time.
Another fantastic edition to the series. I always look forward to a new one being released. Some levels are tricky, as per previous episodes, but not unbeatable [gold stars]. Good graphics, very interactive in regards to challenges, good diversity in the levels. Always very happy with this series!
Same fun as the rest of this saga. I'm always excited to buy this whenever it comes out no matter what.
I felt like some levels were hard :P, and that's awesome!
