You, the protagonist, are 2nd year high school student.It is summer and with your friends you have make your way to an abandoned mansion deep in the mountains to enjoy your youth and make long lasting memories.
With your companions by your side, overcome the terror awaiting you and unravel the secrets of the mansion.

Create the protagonist to your liking and stand up against the terror.

Of the 5 companions you can only select 2 to explore with you.The member you like, a member good at fighting, a member good at exploring.
Depending on who you choose, the experience you have may change drastically.

When the story proceeds you have the option to exit the mansion at any time.If you run out of healing items or the enemies are just far too strong... you can give up, go home and attempt to explore the mansion from the beginning with your current level.
(You can do this even if you are defeated in battle = Game Over.)
Also, by unlocking certain achievements in game, the protagonist will gain a bonus to their parameters when you start a new game.
Take one step back and two steps forward. Giving up and starting over is an essential element to eventually discovering the truth...

Go from a spooky horror to kinda Resident Evil and then to challenge a god in a little span of a few hours.
Nice game tho.
If H.P. Lovecraft was game designer and anime fan, this is what you would get.
An old school jrpg horror goodness
Customize your character, pick your party, run into a mansion Sweet Home style and pray you don't get got by ghosts and other nasties. Learn the secrets of the manor. Visit a very dark annex. Explore the surroundings. Get chomped on by zombie dogs.
Survival horror/adventure/RPG mishmash. It's like Sweet Home or Laplace's Demon.
Throws a whole lot of stuff at the wall and a bunch of it doesn't stick. There are entire skills that are effectively worthless, and scaling issues/exploits that render some characters much better than others. The stat system is pretty lopsided as well, such that stacking STR and SIZ seems to be pretty overpowered, given how limited magic and DEX weapons are. Throwing and ammo-based weapons are also not sustainable enough to be worth the inventory space.
Putting that aside, the game just has a lot of charm to it. Exploring is fun, and there's a bunch of unique enemies and dialogue to poke at. There's also a fair amount of variety in how you can route the game, even if it ends up being pretty small once you know what to do. It feels like a game someone made because they had passion and fun ideas instead of one made to fit into a well-tread framework.
Fun for several hours, with multiple endings and a New Game+ feature to carry over your levels and some completion bonuses.

Short Review: A great retro-style rpg for fans of the Cthulhu Mythos and Resident Evil
Longer Review:
This game plays very much like the old Capcom Famicom/NES game Sweet Home, one of the direct inspirations for Resident Evil. This is doubly fitting in this case since the game very much follows a similar structure to the first RE game, down to some VERY similar puzzles, enemies and items.
On the rpg side the game borrows heavily from the Call of Cthulhu RPG (using similar stats, skills and good old SAN points).
The game is pretty short but has good replay value with multiple endings, different characters and alternate paths.
Negative Points: Some hidden items are very hard to find, since you have to step on the exact tile and investigate and there could have been a few more music tracks.
All in all: 8/10, great for a great price for retro rpg fans.
Now bring the sequel to Steam!
Cool and short game with clever adaptation of horror elements into a real RPG with lots of replayability. Hoping the dev does more in the future.

Cthulhu Mythos RPG - The Sleeping Girl of the Miasma Sea- has an interesting form of gameplay. Every time you initiate combat your characters will lose fear from whatever horrible enemy they encounter. Fear will take away your overall sanity The only way to recover sanity is from leveling up or drinking clean water. The game allows you to choose between being a boy or a girl however i dont know if that affects the ending or not. I do know that your decisions effect the ending once inside the mansion. If you die your stats and levels are saved for next playthrough and its considered "De javu". its honestly a good buy for the cheap price

Fun game with a lot of detail to it. Multiple endings, choices having an impact on dialogue and story, the "New Game+" feature (Levels carry over when you die), customizable protagonist and you can choose what party members you have! I like the old, retro-style graphics and the characters are interesting and likable. I really enjoyed the sanity mechanic, even if it got annoying sometimes (I especially liked it when they had a BREAKDOWN BREAKDOWN). I always got shivers down my spine later on in the game. I played this before and after Sweet Home for the NES and still prefer this over that. The character's overworld sprites are a tad odd cuz they look like they're lying on their backs, but other than that, it was a very enjoyable and interesting experience! (The music is pretty jamming too! Especially in the last area of the game)

I won't say it's a 'good' game in a critical sense, or even overwhelmingly enjoyable... I will say that it's a cute game that scratches a particular itch; the 8-bit horror JRPG itch. Fans of the Famicon cult classic 'Sweet home' and the 'Call of Cthulhu' pen & paper RPG will instantly recognize the influences... and want to go play said better games, but i digress.
Area design is a bit vast & empty - full of the same empty bathrooms, dialog is a tad trope-y and on the nose: "we solved a puzzle and found a secret lab? wow, this is just like in a horror game where they make virus!". Bad Engrish grammar to roll one's eyes at, music, graphics and general atmosphere that are pretty bland...overall it's slow paced and bland-ish, but with just enough interesting stuff in the right places to keep ahold of it's niche audience that it's catering to.
If you haven't played Sweet home, go find a translation and play that instead, If you have played Sweet home and this game is on sale for <$5, I suppose there are worst ways to spend one's time and money.
6/10 - you haft to have the masocistic patience for retro JRPGs, but it's a fun little horror game with a rare special charm to it you don't see every day. I'd love to see a sequel with a bit more polish.
Its charming, yes. But is really simple, the fights were pretty much A-A-A-A-A. Didn't need to use magic, and the two hard bosses i get the feeling that they simply demanded more grinding than strategy. The story isn't that good or original, and the whole lovecraftian atmosphere wasn't even there. Its short, and my interest in it was shorter.
I can't say I had fun playing this game, hence I don't recommend it.
Got to the point with the passcodes for the 2nd floor. Guide is either inaccurate or I hit a game breaking bug. There's no other walkthroughs online and I've tried every nook and cranny. Uninstalled. Do not recommended.
Based on my first playthrough, I recommend it, but it's definitely a niche experience, the game features:
- Japanese weird-science fantasy-horror theme. There are some dark moments (potentially scary), but pulpy and shonen-like manga for the most part. This is not a Corpse Party type of atmosphere.
- Very simple graphics, music and sound effects.
- Inventory management, feels slightly more survival horror than expected.
- Multiple playthroughs required to explore the whole thing. A single playthrough is quite short.
- A mixed bag in variety concerning areas and zones; some places you may like and the adventure does not focus too much on them, some places you may dislike and the action focuses too much on them.
- Small party of characters (you can take up to 3, main character included). To get the more awesome stuff (weapons mostly), you will need particular characters or take very specific skills during character creation.
- Sufficient character customization options at the start of the game, but some options feel pretty useless when compared to others.
- Simple old-school, turn based, Dragon Quest-like combat, few options in battle. Most of the battles will be determined mostly by strategic choice of equipment and party members, rather than tactical actions during encounters. There are tactics, but if you didn't bring the right stuff, they will all be for naught.
- First playthough is rather easy; they say hard is pretty tough!
- To me, the story and mood felt more like F.E.A.R. and Stranger Things than pure Cthulhu Mythos, I expected more Lovecraftian bad guys, most enemies feel more on the Biohazard side and a touch of classic ghost hauntings.
- Very few moments of character interaction, you can talk to your party members, but they say the most simple and obvious things most of the time; no significant character development, the characters start with a certain personality and stay that way until the end.
So this review is pretty neutral, the points listed may help you decide, see if you like what could be considered the majority of the game's content. As additional info, I can tell you that I had more fun playing this than a few other horror games with better graphics and sound.
Roaches and Ghouls and Gods Oh My
A friend had pointed out to me that this game reminded them of a title called Sweet Home for the Famicom and after seeing some footage of that game I can definitely agree it strikes a similar chord. In this retro rpg you start out creating your character by editing their skill set and parameters. As that character you and three other friends go to a spooky mansion for a test of courage. Once inside you find out things are far more out of place than they initially seemed with giant roaches, blood circles, and other strange happenings. There are five endings to find in the game.
That's cool....or is it?
This game has a fair mix of really cool mechanics and not so agreeable mechanics. Throughout the game you can only take two people in your party. This can change at a few points in the game. The party members have different skills to do things such as lock-picking, searching for items, or mixing herbs. When fighting not only do you have to watch your health like in most typical rpg battles. You have to keep an eye on your sanity and what weapon you are using. If attacking ghosts for instance; you have to use a weapon that is able to strike them. If a characters sanity falls below 20% they will go insane; making them mostly incompetent for the fight.

If at anytime you think the game is to difficult or you lose; you can start in new game + keeping all your levels and equipment. This can lock you out of particular endings though.
Aside from the battle mechanics there are a few confusing mechanics as far as progressing the plot and solving puzzles. Inventory use is not automatic; so you have to get used to jumping in menus, remembering which character has what item, and using it in the correct place. The space is also really limited. Once you figure it all out it moves along well but feels a bit over complicated. Lastly the translation could use a bit of work in some places but for the most part it is understandable.

After putting nearly five hours into my first playthrough and discovering there are five endings to the game, more in game achievements to find, and a hard mode to try to tackle; it is well worth the asking price as far as content. Some of the mechanics can be a bit difficult to adjust to; but once you do it is an enjoyable experience. I can recommend this title especially if you played and enjoyed Sweet Home.
Nice, a bit shorter than I thought it'd be with all the stuff you see at first, but it's a really nice game that mixes 8 bit visual style and music with some Dragon Quest like abilities and combat (which actually flows really well), some inventory management (this may be a bit irritating for some, but it's doable) and a really creepy overall feeling without any cheap jump-scares everywhere.
If you like Corpse Party, or any RPG-Maker Japanese horror game, you'll like this too.
